Roma's Pizzeria is in my neighborhood and I've tried them years ago and I wanted to give them a try again. The last time I tasted their pizza, the pizza was okay. I decided to order a small Pizza with Peppers, Onions, and Sausage. The Pizza had a healthy amount of toppings but the Pizza was flavorless. The sauce was okay and the crust was crispy but just lacking flavor. I love a good Pizza and I wish I could have loved this one, but it's not in my top Pizza establishments. A taste of New Haven in Ansonia: Roma pizza makes an excellent pie. It has a good char and crisp, plus the crust is light and airy. Furthermore, they put a copious amount of motz (to die for) on the pie, "cheese for weeks!" and the sauce is tangy too. The best part was the pizza wasn't salty. This time I ordered a mushrooms pie, and I'm glad I did because they used fresh mushrooms,,, thank goodness. Nothing is worse than a pizza with salty canned mushrooms. Moreover, the service was quick and the pizza came out hot and fresh right out of the brick oven. This pizza is right up there with the 3 Kings pizzas in Connecticut, which includes Fuoco in Cheshire, Christo in Wallingford, and Luna in Naugatuck. Love this place, local wood fire brick oven pizza (700+ degree oven!). Place is close to the hospital, quick turn and great friendly family service. Small eat in area - about 4-5 booths. Atleast 1x a month I am here for margarita pizza ( large) with red sauce, definitely recommend that and the chicken Florentine (tried that for the first time this week)! So I've eaten here dozens of times and even used them for multiple work parties over the years. Today I was w a couple of people who had never tried Sicilian pie. So we decided to find a place and we began calling around , most places said no and then when I called Roma they said yes and that they even made 2 sizes.. great So we drive over and order a large Sicilian w toppings. The pie came and we could not of been more disappointed. It was a round pie that had a little bit thicker crust like they put 2 pie doughs together but it was NOT Sicilian. So I said to the man, this is not Sicilian. He says "oh, this is our Sicilian" I say it's round and not even thick, it's just slightly bigger then thin crust.. then he asks if I've ever had Sicilian.. are you serious ? Ordered take out from here over the weekend! I must say that overall everything was delicious! We ordered a Quattro stagioni's and a Roma's pizzas and they were both so good! Perfect crust and lots of toppings! Wr also ordered the pasta combo and a Greek salad. When I went to pick up the order it looks as if there was a misunderstanding and a hot combo grinder was made instead of the combo pasta...but they were very nice about it and I yucky made the pasta dish and let us have the grinder too! I have driven past this pizzeria many times and finally decided to stop in and grab dinner. To my delight the first thing you see is a large wood burning stove. Always a good sign and they did not disappoint. I ordered a Rustica (w/ sauce) and had the pie in less than 10 minutes. Don't let the quick service fool you, this is a quality pie. The roasted peppers have the right touch of sweetness and tomatoes are plump and juicy, the spinach hits off the final bite with the right amount of tang. The wood stove gives the crust just the right amount of char. I am usually the type of person who insists on some type of meat topping on my pizza but I was more than pleased with the veggie only Rustica. As far as pizza in CT goes, you pretty much can't go wrong (unless you go to Domino's or Pizza Hut). But Roma's is by far the BEST pizza around. I have lived on the West Coast for many years and every time I go back East, this is my first stop - before I even go to my grandmother's house, I stop at Roma's for a large cheese pizza. My family and I have been so disappointed with Pizzerias in Ansonia. We are BIG on pizza. Heavy. I was driving to Griffin Hospital and stumbled upon this HIDDEN gem. If I had to compare it, I'd say it's a cross between Modern Pizza and Pizza Heaven. The sauce is FIRE! They do ask customers to wear a mask although employees do not. My wife tried a generic pepperoni with spinach, but was very upset with the canned spinach instead of fresh. I tried the El Paso with added hamburger meat, the spicy sauce was interesting, and I like cherry peppers, but the pickled flavor was a bit odd and the tomato pieces were too large. Living in New Haven, I rarely order pizza from restaurants located anywhere else. Tonight, I placed an order at my favorite Wooster Street pizzeria and it was promptly canceled. I saw the link for this restaurant on the Door Dash website, with tons of 5 star reviews, and decided to give it a chance. I am very happy that I did! Prices are reasonable and there is a huge choice of toppings, many of them vegetarian. I threw 6 toppings on a large pizza and it only cost $27. Everything was evenly distributed across the pizza, and it tasted as good as it looked. Their menu includes non-pizza items, as well, but I didn't try any.
