I tried Papa's Pizza for the first time last night and I wonder ... what took me so long!?? I've only loved two miles away for the last 6 years but whatever. Better now than never. Have you ever had a cone grinder? I hadn't. And wow! It's this delicious blend of perfectly baked Italian bread with a middle containing whatever you'd like in there. For me, I went with eggplant and I just can't say enough about how wonderful this sandwich (?) is. I also got a mozzarella apizza and Di Nanni specialty pizza. So flavorful and the crust is thin but no too thin and not burnt to a crisp which seems to be a common thing around these parts. There was a lovely woman who greeted me at their pickup window and we had a nice friendly chat as she conducted the payment transaction. This is for sure my new go-to pizza place. read more

Worth the 2.5 hr wait on a Friday night... Papas hit the spot for three adults and three children. The pizza held up great during travel and was still hot after a 10 min drive. Now THIS pizza is in a league of its own. I know that new haven pizza is iconic in Connecticut, but this shop in Milford gives New Haven a run for it's money. It is hands-down our family's favorite pizza shop! So much so that we plan ahead of time to place our orders. Our staple is ordering a bacon pie with garlic, well done. There's some thing about the crisp, thin, slightly charred crust that makes for the perfect combination - no matter what toppings you choose. The staff is always delightful and really accommodating in the event of long wait times and we always appreciate that. We will be ordering again next Friday, and I'm considering calling in my order as soon as they open! :) TIP: If you're ordering on a Friday early evening, prepare for the possibility of not being able to get through on the phone or a very long wait time for pick up. My only regret is that we won't have an excuse to have another Papa's pizza since we live 3 states away! We ordered a 12 inch to eat before our long drive home, following our niece's graduation from a local Uni. This pizza was mouthwateringly delicious. From the nice lady who took our special order right up until the last bite of our pie- it was a phenomenal experience! We haven't been able to order from here ever for dinner because they're always too busy to pick up the phone! We opted for a 2:30p pizza and they answered! This must be the trick to getting through, anyways our pizza was ready in 20 mins. Good amount of bacon and well cooked. They have a pick up window so you don't even need to go inside. I've never looked at the menu before but I plan on checking it out to see what specialty pies they have. I'd say it's similar in quality to peppes pizza and ONE step down from Sally's/modern but for being in milford I'd rather go here than drive into new haven! Medium bacon was $20. I love Papa's pizza! It's certainly the best pizza in Milford and the immediate surrounding area. The pies have all the characteristics of great New Haven pizza. They have a great crust with just the right amount of char. The toppings are always well balanced and pizza is always ready on time. I used to live in NYC, home to the best pizza in the whole of existence. That warped my perspective on pizza -- which is a nice way of saying my years there transformed me into a pizza snob. I therefore must state my allegiance: Patsy's Pizza on 116th and 1st Ave. -- NOT one of the other franchises bearing the same name. The one up there in Harlem is the*real* Patsy's. Now comes the important bit. Papa's pizza is the closest thing I can get to Patsy's without actually going to Harlem. There are lots of good Pizza's in CT (some famous in their own right), but not a one of 'em is able to pull off a real New York style thin crust pizza. Not a one of 'em except Papa's. Other awesome facts: 1.) If they say 15 minutes, it's 15 minutes, if they say 45, it's 45. (why is this so hard for other pizza places?) 2.) The staff is AWESOME. They're friendly and they believe in the golden rule of business, "the customer is always right" Only thing to watch out for is that in the summer don't wait until just before closing time to get your pie because this place is so good, that yeah, sometimes, they run out of their made on site pizza dough. read more

Every pie I ever order is consistent and delicious. Definitely in the top 10 in my personal list of pizza restaurants. Every so often I'll leave work and stop by to ask Russ for some pizza dough to bring home. With a twinkle in his eye he hands one or two over for just a few $'s. As a matter of fact there were times I don't recall him charging me at all. He knows I'm going home to teach my 7 year old, Franco, to make homemade pizza.
