The server didn't have a clue, so I asked Austin, the bus boy, for a recommendation. Home run! The Chicken Penne Pasta, which he described as the "hidden gem" on the menu, is fantastic. Chunks of Feta cheese really top it off. Limited craft beer selection here, but the choices are all good. ok pizza and good wings, but their biggest flaw is that they don't deliver. I didn't think that the dough had too much flavor but the texture was ok. the sauce tasted like other sauces i've had before but it's not a style that i like, it's not sweet at all and there's a lot of seasoning to it. we ordered extra cheese and it seemed like a good amount, not too overwhelming. I liked the buffalo wings here, they weren't the standard butter and hot sauce mix, they had something sweet added too and I liked it, and they used plenty of sauce. the wings were very meaty, but they could have been a little more crisp. the bleu cheese was good too. read more

New and clean. Family restaurant that has been in business for 30 years, but moved to a new building. Staff was friendly and new their menu. Wide variety of Italian food, everything that we had was great. Must try the garlic knots! Loved that they served Stella on draft. Portions were HUGE. Decent prices. . . Three of us all had drinks, shared an appetizer, and had salads with our meal and it came out to around $70 including tip. Advice. . . Split a meal between two people. I have eaten at Romana's since I was a child and it hurts me to have to write this! I'm sorry Sammy, but the food is terrible now!!!! The hostess and wait staff are incredibly rude!!!! We used to love the grinders but they are just terrible now. They're not cooked long enough, have chunks of onion piled on and soggy lettuce and tomato. We're finally sick of trying to get a good grinder in this place. Very disappointed. read more

The service is lousy, just like the food. They don't know what Italian food is, I think they dump Prego out of a jar. I ordered stuffed eggplant parmigiana. They put a scoop of unseasoned ricotta cheese on the side and the layers of eggplant had no sauce or cheese on them. I am originally from Gloversville, NY and have gone to Romana's Italian several times when visiting my family. I have travelled extensively all over the US, but this restaurant has the best Italian food in upstate NY. It is very reasonable, but the portions are HUGE. I will be back soon. Well, first time visiting this establishment last night. I ordered pasta with meatballs. (Plural) I also ordered a side of sausage for $3.59. You would think that if the menu reads plural with the meatball"S", you would get two meatballs. When the dish came, it had one meatball, and the side of sausage had only one link (for $3.59??) IMO, the menu is very deceiving in that they print "pasta and meatballs", then bring you your dish of pasta and meatBALL. And honestly, I thought there would be two links of sausage for almost four bucks. Also, my party ordered the "pasta feast." It was a very small dish of food. Very small portions for an italian restaurant. Live and learn. They do have a large variety of food. However, my first experience there was less than satisfactory so we won't be back. read more

I want to say this restaurant has gone way down hill. Ordered the medium wings and they were just molasses glazed certainly not what it used to be. Ordered a roast beef grinder and asked for no mayo well not only didn't I get no mayo but no tomato or cheese just roast beef and lettuce worst I've had. Wait staff is very friendly and kept apologizing though no fault of her own. Unless they get a new cook I won't be ordering again read more

Really delicious!! Homemade sauce. Had Mediterranean veal, ziti with eggplant, vegetarian casserole. Salads typical old school but fresh and large...so yummy! Just ate at Romana's in Johnstown. The reviews here were mediocre. . We were glad we took the chance! We had the greek pizza and the meatball sub. The pizza was excellent! The crust was thin and had a great flavor. The pizza had a great garlic taste. Sometimes the simplest things are the best. The meatball sub was also good. The service was very friendly! Born and raised in Jtown, NY. Joined the military and after 24 years of service, settled down in the Pacific Northwest, Washington State. Fond memories and great times at Romano's after attending Fonda auto races, High School events and just hanging out with family. Over the years I have traveled back to Jtown for family visits and always stop in to Romano's for a famous grinder/calzone. I think those memories of growing up in a small town like Jtown and Family Restaurant like Romano's helped to make the difficult times of war and miserable conditions more bearable. horrible! their food use to be great....but just tonight we decided to give them another shot and needless to say, we're very disapointed! First off, GET CALL WAITING!!!! Its 2015, i shouldnt have to wait 15 minutes to place a damn order....the owner is so cheap! Next, dont sit there and tell me you cant make a tuna sandwich on bread for my daughter when i know for a damn fact you own bread! Shes 5, a six inch sub is too much. then we get the food, the wings were TINY and dry, for my grinder, i asked for no onions and there were onions on half of it, not to mention i found a long black hair in the second half....definetly wasnt one of mine, my hairs pulled back and definetly not black! So yeah, i wont be ordering from this dump again! Get your heads out of your a***es and try running a real restaurant!!! read more
