I just want to say that the reason why I'm giving this Romer's 4-stars (instead of 3) is because of the fabulous location. Located in the "River District," that is to say the South-Eastern most corner of Vancouver, this Romer's is located right next to the Fraser RIver. I love the views of the river and farmlands on the adjacent islands. There is a great patio for the summer months, and in the cooler seasons the floor-to-ceiling windows allow you to still enjoy the vistas. Now onto the food: Burgers are pretty decent. I had the port and stilton burger, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Nothing mind blowing though; I'd say that their stuff is on par with other quality burger joints in Vancouver. Chilli cheese fries were quite good too. But definitely my favorite thing on the menu is the GARLIC FRIES: soooo, sooooooo garlic-y and good. I strongly recommend, but just make sure you don't breathe on anyone for the next few days--I had garlic breath like you wouldn't believe, but it was well worth it. DO NOT go here for breakfast though! I was enticed by their cheap caesars on Sunday. The caesars were very watery and didn't have any pickled veges. I ordered shrimp and avocado eggs benedict which was served with a side of hash-browns. ...It was pathetic, the portions were small and not fresh--the hash-browns were almost cold when they were served to me. read more

It's only for the view and they have it on lock down as being the only burger option in the vicinity area. But they really only do one thing is a "burger". Which is not even that great and like others have said it's a really dry burger. I'll base my ratings on a couple visits. As mentioned above, I know the burgers tend to come dry. I had told the waitress please ask the cook to not over cook it as I would like it on the juicier side. Her response was "oh I'll ask them to put more Ketchup on your burger". Thanks but that not an answer to a dry burger. On another visit I ordered the chicken wings. Which seemed like a super small batch of wings for $13/14 and you get 7 overly breaded and again dry wings. I had asked the waitress is this all you get is 6 wings for $14. She responds "actually it's 7 wings and it's par from any other place". I've had wings from many places and that was definitely on the low side. My response was like "I eat out alot and know that this is a very small batch of wings" she then proceeds to confront me on it and ask name a place. So I say "cactus club". Then she tells me I'm wrong. Not really going to sit here and argue and let this untrained useless waitress ruin my day. And yet again the stellar service of this place ceases to amaze me. As I ask for 2 different beers on their menu. And they don't have either. So please get something right. Menu, service, food you have failed on all of these. All in all, this place survives on really being the only casual western comfort food in the area with a water location. The service is definitely not there, the food isn't there, and clearly talking to them they don't seem to care on fixing it. This morning we joined friends for brunch at the River District Romer's. The service was excellent - friendly without being intrusive. The bennies special was a pleasant surprise although the plating was pretty unappealing. However, the cleanliness was sub-par and so under expectations we probably won't return. First, the tables in the atrium have slatted surfaces, so while no doubt the servers wipe them down, a couple years' worth of food crumbs, grease, and spilled drinks has built up in the crevices -- very unappetizing. One hesitates to put elbows on the table. The pedestal on which the table sits has never been cleaned. The floor around the table was littered with old food, french fries, dried bits of bread, etc. Disgusting. Then, we had to return a fork, a spoon, and a cup for cleaner pieces. We have been regular customers since it opened, but this will be our last visit until some changes are made in the overall hygiene. read more

Decided after a long wait to finally head over to Romer's on Kerr. I was walking along the water path, and purposely timed everything to make for a dinner break around that area. *so sneaky* We were sat down right away... quick drink order request (almost too quick... we hadn't looked at anything yet). Ordered a few $4 'Minglers'. Perused the menu... I went for the "Man's Man Burger", and the wife went for the burger of the month... a pulled pork topped burger. We split on a poutine, and a tomato/artichoke salad. The salad was... ok. Canned artichokes... as usual with most places. I realize getting a nice freshly grilled artichoke is nigh impossible (oh those lovely late spring days in Italy when they were in season... that was artichoke heaven), but it was an ok salad. My burger... tasted... hmmm... how to phrase this.... monochromatic. At other burger places you can taste everything... even at McDonalds in a Big Mac you get a bite of pickle and you feel that 'pop' in your mouth. This burger... just tasted... like one note. No pops. The wifes burger had a few more flavour bits... but she complained of it being flat too. The poutine... the gravy was kind of flavourless... the fries themselves were quite good... and the cheese curds... to understand this next part, please understand the fries were scaldingly freshly hot.. and the gravy had a good temp too... but these cheese curds didn't melt. Not a bit.... even right to the end they were as formed as the first time we set our eyes on them... that was quite weird.... were they frozen? How could they have not melted against those fries? So... the drinks... great price for what they were... everything else... Meh. At the prices they were... triple Meh. Nothing was glaringly bad... but at $12+ for my burger and $13+ for hers... I want something great.... the poutine was about $9.... so again... c'mon. Greatness! Sadly... it wasn't. I won't be planning another trip there in the future.... if I happened to stumble by... Came here once with my mom as we are both huge burgers and fries lovers. As a vegetarian, I loved all the options there were, as any burger on the menu can be done with a quinoa patty, which I find tasted a lot better than some of the cardboard-tasting soy protein based veggie burgers I've tried. I had the portabello mushroom burger and thr garlic boursin was definitely the icing on the cake. The flavours were well complimented and put together. The parmesean truffle fries sound really good but I didn't get to try them. They are calling me back though! The view by the river at sunset is phenomonal. I usually go to the romer on broadway but i come to this one sometimes because my buddy lives here. Its a quiet place by the water. The renovation is nice. Its a very casual burger place that has a patio nature feel if u know what i mean. Romer burgers and their wings are pretty darn good. Patio seating at Romer's must be at a premium during COVID and how things changed within a month. I was here with a friend in mid August and reserved a patio table during lunch with no problems. Fast forward a month later to this past weekend and was told that patio tables were first come first serve. We get there at our reservation time on a Sunday to be told by the host that it is best to just take a table inside as the patio wait list was very long. We sat down and I saw a few empty patio tables and asked one of the servers cleaning the tables if we could have one. She said she might be able to do something. She walked past our table several times and never updated us again even though she cleared two patio tables and one sat empty for 10 minutes. Asked her again and was told that the wait list for the patio was long and she will try and proceeded to clear another couple of tables. This other table sat empty, I swear, for another 15-20 min. By this time, our food arrived and it was pretty much too late. Is patio searing that complicated or did the server really didn't give a hoot? When it came to the quality of food - overall, very mediocre. Family ordered 3 burgers and I had the salmon salad. The seared salmon is really good although the rice was too mushy for my liking. Got to hand it to the cooks - they cook a really good salmon. The family felt burgers though were really underwhelming as they were bland and lifeless. They were fresh patties but it lacked taste or spark. Seasoned lightly with salt and maybe pepper. The fries were mostly tiny ends and bits that were dry and crunchy. The key lime pie came with this really weird tasting sauce that almost like a salad dressing. Overall, a very mediocre night in a rather noisy place. read more

Use to love this place but they got rid of the best veggie burger around and replaced it with a quinoa burger which isn't as good. The quinoa burger doesn't even come with that wonderful bun. Bring back your original veggie burger so we can eat at your restaurant again. Also love that you severed fried pickles but your batter is terrible. It's the wrong kind of batter for that. Used to love the view and the burgers here. Still love the view, but the latest menu change left us wanting. The sliders were just plain dry, and my hot chicken burger was a big disappointment. The seasoning was good but the patty itself was an amalgamation of over-crispy white and dark chicken bits. Since I was expecting a nice juicy chicken breast, not something that reminded me of mcnuggets, this really missed the mark. (And made me miss the old So-Cal turkey burger they dropped from the menu. So if you are not into beef burgers this may not be your place.) Also, I do like that the fries now come with the burgers, as opposed to having to order then separately, but the average length of our fries was about 2 cm, which left them overcooked, and looking like the dregs from the deep fryer. Finally, on a nice Spring or Summer day, when folks are likely to be out walking, the parking near the restaurant can be a nightmare. I invited one of my family members who came to my place in Vancouver to this restaurant and told him that they have a great customer service and food .I wish I never mentioned that because their service was really embarrassing . The servers were really disrespectful .One of them told us :we can go and sit after about 10 minutes another one came and started to kind of interrogate us disrespectfully and said: who told you to sit here ?Are you sure ?....The table was still dirty,and again after another 10 Minutes the first server came to our table and gave us attitude .My guest was super nice with her and appreciate her but she didn't answer and just said another server will take care of your table and again we waited for about 10 mins with no menu and nothing ...I was shocked with this style of hospitality and didn't know how to explain it to my guest.After about 30 minutes,finally we decided to leave .Before we left I asked to talk with the manager but he didn't really care and the only thing I heard from him was :SORRY MAN,HAVE A GOOD NiGHT. I am very disappointed.I don't recommend this restaurant ,be very careful when you want to invite someone to this restaurant . Went to this place today with my Father for lunch and had an exceptional experience. Although this location is really tiny ; what it lacks in size it makes up for in every other way. The view from this place having it be a waterfront location is stunning , highly recommend sitting in the glass seating area in the colder months or on the patio during the Summer. The service here is super friendly and really fast. For lunch I had the " Jimmy's Big Breakfast " Burger, my Father had the " Man's Man " Burger and between the both of us we split a side of the onion rings. Everything was hot when it came out and tasted amazing. Totally recommend this place for anyone looking for a casual place to eat lunch or dinner. Definitely will be coming back again. read more

My husband and I came here for brunch today on Easter Sunday with a friend visiting from out of town as well as our 21-month-old son. My friend had the mushroom burger, my husband had a bowl of some sort and my son and I had a tortilla wrap that was specially made from the kitchen to accommodate his allergies. My toddler gobbled it all up! Just wanted to say how fantastic the service was as well as the food. I didn't get the name of our server unfortunately but she provided amazing service. Wow. Went here last night to enjoy the patio and I think the view is the only thing I enjoyed. I signed up for yelp just to write this review believe it or not. We were a table of four. First thing I ordered was a drink. Was told there wasn't the main ingredient available in the drink so they couldn't make it. Decided to order their specialty mushroom soup. Was told they didn't have it available. Friend ordered one of their specialty salad. They didn't have three of the ingredients that the salad contained!!! She literally received a bowl of lettuce and chicken. LITERALLY THATS IT. We were shocked. Was never told before hand that they didn't have the stuff to make it. She had to actually approach server to ask why her salad looked like that. I ordered Jamaican tacos. Those were good but it came with extremely salty fries. Also got the Mac n cheese NEVER GET THIS. It has no taste whatsoever. It's plain pasta with cheese that i really believe is not cheese. I am not one to ever complain but we realllly felt like it was needed this time. And at first, I didn't understand why they charged extra to "make it green" until I saw they substitute the bun for almost an entire head of lettuce cleverly shaped like a bun. Great for lunch. I work in the area and it is a goto lunch choice in an area with little choice. The burgers are well made, my favourite was an old burger of the month ; a bun-less (lettuce wrap) with avocado and a fried egg - sounds pedestrian, but it was full of flavour and nearly healthy. -Hey Romer, bring it back! Having had an enjoyable lunch experience during a recent visit at Roma's, we decided to go back for a quick "bite" at around 8.30pm on a Friday night. When we arrived, we both commented on how bright the lighting was and joked about not having our sunglasses. We ordered our drinks but Romers did not offer any wheat beer! I thought this was a "bar"! We decided on a shrimp appetizer and the Kobe beef burger which was the most expensive on the menu. As we ordered, the waitress explained that they were out of shrimp and we were the third group that had asked for that particular appie. It would've helped if she had mentioned this at the beginning. Our burger arrived and we were surprised by the size of the patty. Romer's buns are a delicious (brioche style?) but are slightly smaller than a "normal" hamburger bun. The patty didn't even come close to the edge of the bun and was no more than 1/2" thick. It was likely 3 ounces of beef which was about half of what we expected. I'm not sure if the patties are hand-formed or go through some process to ensure consistency, but we were extremely disappointed. read more

OK, let's be realistic here. What's the name of the place? Romer's BURGER Bar. It's not Hy's, le Crocodile or even the Keg and as is often the case, people don't keep in mind what a place really is when visiting or rating it. Pub, is probably the best descriptor 'cause that's basically what it is; a neighbourhood pub that wants to be known for its burgers. People eat or grab food from MacDonald's all the time and what do they expect? MacDonald's. So why expect a burger bar to be something gourmet and 5 stars? No, if they want to be known for burgers, then they have to be compared to Vera's or Fat Burger. So...3 it is. There are lots of really good pubs and burger bars in Vancouver. This is not one of them. Not "really good," that is. Average, ok, mediocre. So, on that basis, I would give them 3 stars. But to be fair, I like it better than a three, for location, patio and ambience. You can find a better burger in Boston Bar but that only works on a ride up the canyon and it's not a place to hang for a couple hours. We have been to Romer's on Kerr several times just because it is a very convenient place for US to go with friends, for socializing, not "out for dinner." We almost always order stuff you eat with your hands or just a continuous round of changing appies. Beer and wine. No point telling you what's good because you like different stuff, right? However, nothing has ever been disappointing, to any of us, because we keep what it is, in perspective. Service, neeya, and it most likely won't improve until the week day construction workers are done in the neighbourhood. See, those guys don't expect much, cleavage instead of croutons, someone they can tease, throw a tip at and feel good about who they are. The food to them is better than bologna on white and a sandy salad brought from home and eaten on an upside down bucket. In that context, service is a bonus. Also, for now Romer's is the only game in town. They WILL need to jack it up when the new River District brings on some competition. Romer's on 4th is a notch better because better is expected there but Romer's on Kerr will sit at a comfortable 3. I'd give it extra for location in the summer but that would be cheating. Oh, and one other thing; a burger, sweet potato fries, a beer, tip and taxes IS going to push 30 bucks anywhere so, whoever whined about $60 for two, must have come over from Egmont. Update, May 04-16. Took another run at them. Better server this time around although her little helper tried to scoop the dishes; "hey, I ain't done with that yet!" This server was very friendly and explained that there is no customer, busy, pattern yet so it is hard to properly staff all the time. Nice she said that. Chicken on a half bun was reported to be good. Me, well, I haven't had a burger quite that dry in a long time and they would not sauté the onions. Deep fried in batter or none. Pfffft! Love this place. We often go here and to the W 4th location in Vancouver, but this location is by far my fave! The view is fantastic and the food is even better. I have all kinds of dietary restrictions and they always accommodate, seemingly effortlessly. My husband usually gets the burger of the month, which are always these crazy concoctions that somehow work out really well, haha! I always get the classic on a gluten free bun. Overpriced and under value. Man's Man burger is not very flavourful and what flavour it does have tastes mildly like blue cheese mixed with horseradish. Not appealing for me at all. I would have expected a burger with that name to have a nice smokey BBQ flavour or at least a decent flavoured mayo spread. Otherwise the quality of the meat itself did seem good although the crispy onions tasted chewy and not fresh. The $3 sea salt fries had nice texture but hardly any salt on them and just come with regular ketchup and not even a chipotle mayo. The mini donuts dessert are extremely heavy with a thick crunchy overly greasy texture as if they had been frozen and re-fried. They come with 3 dipping sauces which are just ok but rendered pointless due to the thick coating of powdered sugar glopped on top of the donuts. You can't put powdered sugar on hot donuts since it will melt and dumping it on super thick doesn't help unless you are trying to achieve a sickly sweet super greasy donut that has no need for a dipping sauce. The drink selection is also definitely not aimed at non wine drinkers other than the beer sampler which I suspect people order due to limited other individual selections. Will not be back to this place to try any other dishes. read more

So I've been enjoying Romer's burgers for over 10 years. Tasty, fresh burgers and great fries plus those drunken doughnuts with the Jack Daniels caramel sauce!!! Yum!!!! I was there today for a birthday lunch with a good friend. We have made this a bit of yearly tradition. It was odd that at 12:30 pm it wasn't that busy in there on a Saturday. Anyway, we were seated and we looked over the new menu with some new burgers on it as well as new Bowl options etc. I decided to try the Long Haul Trucker burger and my friend had the Cod tacos and we both ordered fries with that. Our order arrived after about 15 or 20 minutes and the server didn't stick around once the plates were set down. My fries were cold and so was my burger and the burger itself was so over cooked and dry that it didn't taste of anything. My friends' tacos were also cold and her fries cold too. We couldn't really get the servers attention and she didn't come around to ask how our meals till too much time pasted and neither of us wanted to wait all afternoon for another order as the place was starting to fill up a bit. We ate what we could and figured at least an order of the drunken doughnuts would cheer us up! But even that wasn't as good either!!! What's going on there??? And the Jack Daniels Caramel sauce? Well everyone it is no more!!!!! We had specifically asked for the 3 sauces to the Caramel sauce and what arrived was a cold, super runny maple flavoured something! It was horrible!!!!
