Tried this for the first time and will not be back. My sons's burger was rare in the middle and he had half eaten it before I noticed. The burger should never of left the grill. It was grossly apparent that kitchen staff is obviously not trained and are putting customers at risk. read more

Very dissappointing lunch. Started with lipstick on the water glass - okay that's not too big a deal. The appy was natchos and there was no salsa just hot sauce (Frank's I think) they substituted sour cream for Tatziki because they ran out of sour cream. The Mexican style burger was okay but fries were cold. I was in too much of a hurry to complain plus this was the second bad meal in a row from them did me no good last time when I complained. I live in the River District so Romers is a short walk away - I won't be back. They need new management there. read more

The location of this restaurant is lovely. The service is great!! It's unfortunate that the food is over priced and not as tasty as you expect. I ordered the Harvest bowl and was so disappointed, the bowl had lots of rice, quinoa, and lettuce. I got a few crumbles of goat cheese and a teaspoon of roasted red pepper and a cube of beet. Very disappointed, had an OK burger at best with a stale bun and soggy undercooked fries. Boxes of food supplies just delivered scattered down hallway. Washrooms dirty. Three staff members sitting up at the bar on their cell phones and eating their lunch out of a Tupperware container. I guess they don't have a staff break room. Love this place. Great food, great location. Have tried many burger options and have never been disappointed. The method of just ordering a burger by itself works for me. If you want more there is a variety of delicious side dishes and appetizers to choose from. Some nights can be noisy, especially game nights. But if you get out on the patio the atmosphere is much to be enjoyed. Beware the insects though if you are sensitive to them. I don't use the term often, but OMG! The new dessert is decadent. River District is probably one of Vancouver best kept secrets. The patio at restaurant is probably the only patio in the River District area, until they fully developed the area. If you are craving mini donut, and it out of season. They have it here as a dessert with different sauces. Definitely worth the try, if your craving some mini donuts. Parking in this area can be hard to find, they have there own lott, but it still gets full. There is street parking, but can be hard to find during peak hours. read more

Have been here several times over the last couple of years and food seemed ok. Our most recent visit changed our minds. The salt and pepper wings were exceptionally salty. The raspberry mojito during happy hour was very watered-down, and to reiterate Tracy T's review, I had to use my teeth as a sieve for the mint. Metal straws that can be washed, perhaps? The rice in the rice bowl needed to be soaked longer in water before cooking; it was really hard, dry, under-cooked. Some of the chicken drummets were pink/undercooked. The food was decent but the service didn't make me enjoy it more than I should've. My girlfriend and I walked in on a Friday night before we went to a drive-in movie to grab a bite to eat since we had a little bit of time to kill. We asked the hostess how long the wait would be for two people and she said 40 minutes, so we decided to do takeout instead. Literally 2 minutes after that another couple walks in, no reservations made for them, asks if they have any tables. The hostess says they have a table in the corner and asked if the couple if they were okay with it. This is all happening right in front of my girlfriend and I. Within the first 5 minutes that couple got in, they instantly got a table. Within the first 5 minutes of our service, we got nothing. Don't think I want to bring my girlfriend here anytime soon. read more

My son first ate here months back and has been asking for their popcorn shrimp since. Life and work have been hindrances until today. He was quietly excited. He's four, and a mature four at that-- he doesn't display his emotions as vividly as other children his age. We sat down and I noticed the popcorn shrimp didn't survive the menu purge. Crisis #1; luckily they had coconut shrimp. We also ordered calamari,--we have a thing for deep-friend sea creatures--both from Paul, the manager . The calamari was served and then Alissa (our server) told us that shrimp was not available today. Crisis #2. The pall on my son's face; Alissa's attempts to cheer him. He's reserved, so I am not worried about a petulant scene. Much worse: I would sit, knowing and feeling my son's disappointment. There are few things in life he likes and is excited about; this is one of them.Maybe it would have been better if he just cried, but it is what it is.Anyways an emergency order of garlic fries and negotiations on home-made shrimp taters commenced. A most forgettable meal loomed. Paul arrived 10 minutes later. A plate of fried shrimps. They obviously did some searching in the kitchen and made it happen. Small place along the new River District area. It's a pretty small Romers. The menu is little on the pricier side of things. $11.95 for The Standard burger and that's without fries included. There isn't even a basic cheese burger. That has to be a given, considering this place is a burger joint. I would come back again. But probably not for a while. Prices are too expensive for burgers and fries. There's probably a better place, and quite honestly, better burgers to grab a bite at without costing an arm and a leg. read more

I came here for our kinda special dinner :) but then we didn't know it was the first day for dine out Vancouver.. so we had to wait for about an hour! But we had pretty good spot for three of us and we were very satisfied :) As well, the server was so lovely and friendly. We had a dine out special with coconut shrimp, the steak and drunken donut and man's man burger, righteous rib with fresh sea salt fries. Honestly, we should have not ordered the steak at burger place.. it was over-cooked too much on the grill I guess. Sadly, it was not good actually. We talked this place is good for the burgers for sure not the steak. However everything was so good.. I love they support local breweries! And red truck lager is my favorite!!! It was my first time here I really liked it. I shared some appetizers with friends. We ordered the deep fried pickles, the Valentina nachos with jerk chicken, coconut shrimp and Mac and cheese. I found the food delicious, the ingredients were fresh everything had the right amount of seasoning and spice. Although Romer's Burger Bar is, of course, known for its burgers, they also make a fantastic brunch. Their River District location is near our house and we enjoy grabbing a bite to eat in our neighbourhood. This spot has a beautiful patio/atrium that has views of the Fraser River and the manicured lawns surrounding the building. On Saturdays, Romer's Red Sangria is on special and makes a great brunch tipple. Made with red wine, Brandy, Triple Sec, orange and cranberry juices, it is light, fruity and goes down very easily! If you're more of a traditionalist, they also serve mimosas. I had the Wild Baja Shrimp Benedict with thick avocado slices and Applewood smoked bacon. The eggs were slightly overcooked and didn't ooze buttery yolks when sliced into. However, there was plenty of rich, velvety Hollandaise sauce. The breakfast potatoes were perfectly cooked, with crispy shells and soft centers. Aaron tried the Oceanwise Halibut Tacos that came served in roti bread. There was a crunchy carrot slaw that added a nice texture to the flakey fish. The mango salsa was slightly sweet and balanced the mild heat of the cayenne rubbed halibut. The amount of fish in each taco was generous and, along with the hand-cut fries, made for a filling meal. read more

A neat and modern designed restaurant. Reminds me of Cactus Club or Milestone decor. But chances are that if you sit too close to the bar/kitchen area your clothes will smell like greasy food by the time you are done. Had the salmon burger... I'm sorry to say it was bland, they advertise garlic mayo in the burger but I didn't taste it, I actually had to add salt... The gravy for the poutine tasted a bit odd, like they added booze to it, and don't be fooled it does not contain real cheese curd! More like cheddar or mozzarella "curds". The service is fine, they like asking you how the food taste after you put the first bite in your mouth, but that's a general bad habit waitresses are usually asked to keep up from the managers! Please don't waste your time or money at this restaurant! Why? Where should I start? Busy Saturday evening. Not enough staff. Waiter was too busy and thus inattentive. Ignored for the first 15 min. Our drinks took forever to appear. No management intervention (until he appeared at the table next to us (after a cook came out to apologize for the food) because a 4 year old was served a cheeseburger with no burger patty. Eventually the same dry cold bun reappeared with a patty. In disbelief, the parents spoke up). My husband's New York steak was overcooked (no point in complaining) and his wine arrived after he left to wait in the car. The server didn't notice until I said 'Too late - he's gone'. Every time I go to Vancouver, I go to Romer's. I'm a pretty picky eater, and every time I go the staff is very accommodating. The server I like best is Felicity. She's always efficient, kind, and patient with my many requests. The location on the water is also nice and relaxing. The food deserves three stars, but the service was great, especially considering they screwed up our table reservation. We had called in the afternoon for a table in a booth but when we showed up it was not available so were seated at the high table, which isn't comfortable for anybody under 5'2". Still, manager came out personally to apologize for the mix-up and comped some of the meal. Thank-you! The server was also very good. As for the food, I had the rodeo burger with skinny bread and fries. It was ok. The mojito drink I had didn't include a straw which I didn't mind at first until it became obvious that it was tough to drink around all the ice in the glass. Great location and ambiance... go for the famous drunken doughnuts and skip to the main meal for afterwards. Stick with a burger, that's what they're known for, and there's nothing like a juicy organic beef patty. If you're into an eggs benny breakfast, then they have a good selection and taste for that too! My friends love this location, the only drawback is that on a sunny yet slight windy day, you'll get a nasty air of the dirty Fraser river, so hold your breath in. read more

Ordered at 10am through Skip the Dishes before the restaurant opened at 11am. As soon as the restaurant opened, we got the message that the restaurant was "busier than usual" and that it would take longer to complete our order than the 30 minutes originally planned. It was delayed by an additional 20 minutes. Upon receiving our order, we found that we only received 2 burgers, and the 2 large sharing-size fries were missing (but we had been charged for them). We called them about this, and they had us get a refund from Skip the Dishes, and then sent us the fries for free. This was excellent handling of the situation. The fries portion size could have been larger (the for sharing size for 2-3 people was perhaps for 2 people), but the food itself was quite good. read more

Tried to go here tonight. Told the wait for 2 was 25 min. OK we can wait. A place for 2 opened at the bar but just then another couple came in. When told of the wait they asked to sit at the bar and they were seated. Then a group of 3 came in and when told of the wait said they would do take-out but could they have a beer while they waited. The staff created seats at the end of the cook area and then gave them cutlery so they could stay. I brought this up to the hostess who said she was sorry but thought we didn't want those options. After 35 minutes we were still waiting so we left. It seems they have not changed from the previous review with a similar issue. This place does not deserve my business or yours. read more

We had mistake after mistake with our order, though the waitress was competent it seemed there was an issue when communicating to the bar and kitchen. I ordered happy hour sangria and received a glass of regular wine. The person I was with ordered a burger with nothing on it, a side of avocado and mustard and ketchup on the side. The first one that came was a regular burger with everything on it, and the table had no napkins. When we finally tracked down the waitress she sent it back to be redone, and it took a long time only to be wrong again. No side of ketchup, the mustard was an aioli, and mayo which they charged on the bill, 2 dollars each. And she didn't even order the mayo. When we asked for the bill the waitress brought us a receipt and said she would be right back, but after a while we put down some cash and left. Ridiculous, there was only a few other tables with people, the place was practically half empty. I would not go back. read more

Things have gone seriously downhill. This was once a 10 for Burgers, I'd dare say was once my favorite. My girlfriend and I were NOT greeted for some five minutes, despite two servers sitting at the bar near the door chatting amongst ourselves, eventually a chef way back in the kitchen called service to seat us. My chicken wings still had feathers on them, and were greasy the requested hot sauce was not provided, and was offered too late at a surcharge. My burger was bland and undercooked. The quality meat, and quality bun I remembered were gone. I'v honestly had better burgers at concession stands. Part of the wall of the exterior wall of the building on the patio is missing. Service was slow, and lacked any sort of charm. New owners? New chefs? New recipes? I don't know I haven't been in in about four years, but its gone seriously downhill. Won't be back. Bummer. BIG FAT ZERO STAR! We were a group of three mothers and 4 toddlers (one of whom is a baby) stopped by this afternoon to see if we can get a table at the patio. It took 5 minutes before we were acknowledged. When we finally got someone to greet us, we were told that there was 20-30 minute wait for a table. One of the other mom noticed that there was a large enough table on the patio for our group. When we inquired of the said table in the corner (we didn't want to interrupt other patrons Friday lunch), we were told that the area is "not being serviced" and was given a cold shoulder. Nice touch, Romer's Burger. I don't think I will be back for non-existent service and manner. read more

Went for lunch Friday with a buddy. His fish tacos looked great. I had the fish and chips recommended by another buddy there a few weeks ago. This has been our go-to restaurant since it opened a couple of years ago: they had a fantastic veggie burger, a great selection of salads, the best fries you've ever tasted, and rosemary-asiago onion rings to die for. They still have great fries and onion rings, but they changed the recipe on their veggie burger-now it's a bland mushy quinoa patty with a terrible texture; the only thing you can taste is cumin. It used to taste like a really good imitation of meat, but now it tastes like a hippy burger from a health-food diner. It's the texture that makes it inedible. They've also changed a number of their salads--even the mini-version of their fabulous wedge salad is gone. They have a new wild mushroom soup on the menu that I was excited to try, but again, so bland it's almost tasteless. It's probably fine if you're not vegetarian, but the changes to the vegetarian options are not very good at all, so we'll likely just find a new place for our weekly end-of-the-week-celebration meal. The service is great, as always, and their house wine is good and reasonably priced. Their cocktails are well made, but a bit pricey for a burger place. read more

This morning we joined friends for brunch at the River District Romer's. The service was excellent - friendly without being intrusive. The bennies special was a pleasant surprise although the plating was pretty unappealing. However, the cleanliness was sub-par and so under expectations we probably won't return. First, the tables in the atrium have slatted surfaces, so while no doubt the servers wipe them down, a couple years' worth of food crumbs, grease, and spilled drinks has built up in the crevices -- very unappetizing. One hesitates to put elbows on the table. The pedestal on which the table sits has never been cleaned. The floor around the table was littered with old food, french fries, dried bits of bread, etc. Disgusting. Then, we had to return a fork, a spoon, and a cup for cleaner pieces. We have been regular customers since it opened, but this will be our last visit until some changes are made in the overall hygiene. read more

I've gone here more than a dozen times because I live only a few blocks away! Their burger is above average and I would say Romers is one of the best burger joints in Van. If there's such a thing as premium burgers, then Romers is serving em'. I always order their port & Stilton burger - lots of onion in it and the cheese is so addictive! If you come here during the day, they have a pretty sweet patio too! They recently added a lot of different foods to their menu as well, so expect more than just burgers. read more
