We were walking around Winter Park looking for a spot for a late lunch. We were both in the mood for pasta and stopped outside of Rome's to view their menu. The owner came out and playfully pointed to his photo on the menu and greeted us. We both liked the sound of the offerings and went in to eat. Pastas are made fresh at Rome's. We both decided to try the recommended gnocchi with pesto and got a side of meatballs to share. The gnocchi came out and was beautifully presented. The taste was great. The pesto tasted fresh and flavorful and the gnocchi were melt in your mouth perfect. The meatballs were some of the best I've had. Usually I could take or leave meatballs but these were quite good. Loved this place. We walked past it earlier in the day so we can walk down Park Ave and making mental notes of all the possible lunch spots. When it came down to it, we picked this place. As we walked up, we got greeted by a friendly girl setting up tables and she didn't even know we were going to be eating there yet. I overheard her just greeting people walking by which goes to show just how genuinely friendly they are. We were helped quickly and got to pick a table since it wasn't too busy (we ate at a strange lunch time - 2:45pm). We got a personal Napoli pizza and the Tagliatelle Napoli. Food came out in good time and the presentations was very cute. The portions were perfect for lunch. The pasta definitely tasted fresh! Pizza was also great. My wife told me about his place and how good it was so we finally had the chance to go together for a dinner date night. Cool little restaurant in the Park Ave area with outdoor seating (it was cold this night but they had heaters outside) which we sat at on a lovely evening. Started off ordering a bottle of wine called the Pinot Nero (their version of a Pinot Noir) it was a very nice and flavorful wine. We were both really hungry so we started off by ordering one of their personal size pizzas: the Villa Borghese. It was a very yummy pizza the bottom of the pie was nice and crunchy, the pizza itself was doughy and fluffy, and finally the ingredients on top brought it all together. Definitely recommend trying this pizza or one of the other ones they have. For our mains we both got different pastas: I got the Fettuccine Bolognese and she ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo (added the truffle paste). Both pastas were very good, freshly made noodles, perfect flavor, and very delicious. We both had mixed reviews about who's was better of course we both chose our own dishes but either one was too notch. We did end up having enough room left in our bellies to try out their homemade tiramisu and it was very good and worth the try. I'm looking forward to going back and trying the other pasta dishes that they offer and also their other pizzas. I am picky when it comes to one of my favorite cuisines! Italian food must be authentic, and not some chain or twisted version! And it also comes with a feeling of being welcomed and feeling like I am for a while transported to one of my favorite countries! And this is just what I found at Rome's, immediately being greeted by the owner, then to the excellent service from our waitress who gave us perfect suggestions and delivered delicious plates that did not disappoint! Everything was as authentic as it comes and the ambiance and chatting with the servers and owner made our meal so pleasant! The carbonara was excellent--good flavor and texture--and was made even better by the delicious side of homemade meatballs. This place is busy. The service may be a little slow. But why should you be in a rush here at Park Ave anyway? Here, you need to actually wait to eat the best pesto gnocchi in Orlando. The texture is perfect! The pesto sauce is light, and best of all, homemade. The lasagna, well if you are lucky to find some left, is authentic Italian. We drove to Sanford, parked at the Sun Rail train station and rode the rails to Winter Park to save on driving, parking, and so on. We walked around for a while and then tried a free sample of pizza from this restaurant that Lisa was handing out on the corner. We had already considered having lunch at Rome's Flavours, so that worked out. We sat outside as the tables were in the shade on this warm day, and a breeze was blowing. We started out with our usual ice water, no straw. There was precious little ice in the oversized wine glasses though, so my wife asked for more ice with her refill, which the server brought in a separate glass. I noticed immediately that the prices for lunch were higher than we are used to, but I gather it is due partly to the organic and imported ingredients they use, plus making pasta and so on from scratch. Not only that, but this is historic downtown Winter Park and I saw that other places were also pricy. Heck, there was "sale" clothing on a rack outside one store with normal looking pants and tops marked down to around $200. The rich are different, clearly. My wife ordered one of the specials, baked salmon and a vegetable medley as her side. She loved the veggies (giving me the mushrooms!) but the salmon was too raw in the thickest part. We don't eat sushi or raw fish, so we prefer it cooked, realizing it is tricky not to cook it too much and risk drying it out. She got through it okay and shared a bite with me, yeah, undercooked. I never order salmon in restaurants for just this reason - my wife cooks it better than any restaurant I have been in. Her entree came with a single crunchy piece of bread that wasn't great, to be honest. But I was hungry so I took a hit for the team and ate it. This Italian restaurant doesn't offer spaghetti and meatballs, as that is too cliche Italian, I guess, so I got the pasta bolognese, which at least had meat sauce. It was excellent. I don't have the finely tuned taste buds that other reviewers apparently have, so I can't comment on the relative quality of their homemade pasta. Tasted fine to this amateur. My $17 dollar meal, despite being a dollar more than my wife's offering, was not considered an entree and so didn't come with a side. So I was still hungry after I finished it. (Hence the eating of the crunchy hardtack as mentioned above.) So it was a pleasant experience overall; we had a nice chat with a British couple next to us, but after my five months in a hospital last year and home care after that, our medical bills require that $40 lunches are the exception rather than the rule. So our next visit to Winter Park, if there is one, will not include this fine restaurant. But don't let that stop you. read more

We discovered this place after not wanting to wait long at a competitor's restaurant around the corner. We're so glad we found this place! The ambiance was warm, welcoming, the decor modern but classic. The food was delicious and you can definitely tell it was handmade/fresh. We shared a personal Villa Borghese pizza, Bolognese pasta and a side of meatballs. Everything was cooked with care and the flavors really highlighted the attention to detail with the freshness of its ingredients. It is so good, we wish they had a location in our hometown (we're visiting from out of town). Ashley was a phenomenal server, from guiding us in a wine selection, to food, to giving us recommendations for things to do in the area, we loved her customer service and positive attitude and hope to be back one day soon. We also had the pleasure of meeting the head chef, owner, and operator of the restaurant who was funny, knowledgeable, and kind as we asked questions about pasta and his restaurant in general. She said the kitchen closes at 9:45 which is fine, because by the time she got out there it was. The restaurant advertises that it's open until 11:00. They should say they close at 10:00. This is poor management and service. I was looking forward to trying this place but I just took it off of my list out of principal. Plenty of other delicious restaurants with good service. I ordered a bottle of Fibbio Montepulciano, which was smooth, full bodied & just what I needed after putting in 8 hours at work on a Sunday. We started with the Tapenade Flier, which consisted of four fresh made dips, served in small bowls lined up like a flight & accompanied by lightly toasted strips of ciabatta. All four had a fresh & flavorful profile, but my favorite two were the artichoke & garlic and the olive tapenade. For my main course, I had the Tagliolini alla Siciliana, which consisted of sautéed eggplant, diced tomato and fresh basil in a sauce that was perfectly balanced with a nice rich finish. The pasta, which is like a flat spaghetti noodle and is home made, was cooked just right and held the sauce well. My date ordered the Pappardelle Amatriciana with a side of homemade meatballs. The meatballs, which are beef & pork, were flavorful and in a nice tomato sauce. I would've liked a denser meatball but overall, they were tasty & well made. For dessert, the owner treated us to his homemade limoncello and we tried their homemade gelato at the recommendation of our server - a scoop of mixed berries and a scoop of chocolate, served in a glass with a crispy ladyfingers cookie. The thing that makes this place special to me is the hand made pasta. It's cooked al dente, which you may or may not like, but is typical Italian. They also make their own gelato flavors in house, and their tiramisu was very good. The service is also great. We we're seated quickly, and our food came out promptly. The wait staff is very friendly, and the restaurant is clean and organized. Some (very) minor criticism, the tiramisu had whipped cream from a can on the side as a garnish. It is such an easy thing to make in house to give it that extra something, although. One of my favorite parts of the fettuccine arrabiata were the flavorful cloves of garlic which really absorbed the sauce, which I personally wished there were more of (though I'm sure everyone has different tastes). All in all, I think that seeing the fresh made pasta, and watching the owner at work give this restaurant a unique experience which I appreciate. I think it is worth a visit. read more

Little hidden gem off Park ave. The best Italian food around. Make sure to make reservations. You can bring own wine with a corking fee.

Anyone who calls this food better than Italy either had crappy food in Italy or was drinking too much wine with their meal at Rome's Flavours. On the flip side, it wasn't terrible either. The people who compared it to Chef Boyardee clearly haven't had canned pasta or sauce in some time. The sauce wasn't overly salty or greasy and it definitely got most of its flavor from a mire poix (I could see the carrots in the sauce). The noodles definitely tasted house-made. Overall, it was not outstandingly bad. Unfortunately, that was part of the problem; it was just...average. Here were my three biggest issues with my spaghetti bolognese lunch: 1) the sauce was fine, but lacked punch. Hint -- if they serve you several springs of fresh herbs as a garnish (like they did me), strip them and add them to your dish. They're necessary. If the kitchen added more herbs or wine to this sauce it would help *immensely*. 2) DO NOT ORDER THE BREAD. After what seems to have been years of complaints about the lack of a complimentary bread basket they have now started to offer people bread. They ask you when you order how many slices you would like -- it's doughy, undercooked and slightly stale focaccia. They give you a sad little drizzle of olive oil on each piece (done in the kitchen) AND CHARGE YOU FIFTY CENTS PER PIECE!!!!! 1000% not worth it. And if you think that's the only example of highway robbery in this place...well you'd be wrong. 3) That small portion of pasta (in the picture below) was $17. FOR LUNCH. If it was an amazing sauce it would have been worth it...maybe. As it is they clearly looked at theme park menu prices and figured they could get away with it. Please don't let them. If you look for lunch places in Winter Park this place is ranked pretty highly. And the table next to me was raving about both the pizza and the gnocchi. Maybe I got the wrong dish. But if you want to try this place, be prepared for it to make an annoying dent in your wallet. There are cheaper places to eat in Winter Park. And honestly I would wager that there are much better places to eat as well. read more

After many recommendations I finally made it down to this authentic Italian place off of park ave. I was not let down. The service was very welcoming and the food was amazing. I love a good gnocchi and I got the homemade gnocchi(which you can see them make right in front of you!) with pesto sauce. It was hands down the best gnocchi I have ever had! It was so much more tender than you'd expect and it seems to melt in my mouth. My mom got the villa borghese pizza and she loved it as well. I could not recommend this place enough. So now that Rome's Flavors offers a full lunch and dinner menu, I was very eager to try it. Their gelato was very much the authentic gelato I enjoyed in Italy, as I mentioned in my first review. We stopped by for lunch, and I chose the Sangiovese di Romagna, 2011, for wine. We were served some tiny flat squares for bread, which were tasty...but seemed like pizza crusts pieces? I wasn't sure what it was, and the waitress never told us it was coming or what it was when she dropped it off. Some of the pieces had black pepper on it. The pastas on the menu all say "Authentic Pasta" and have a disclaimer that it takes 20 minutes to make as it's made to order. When I asked the waitress if they made their pasta in-house, her response was that they make it "to order"...which didn't really answer my question, but I knew they were busy so didn't clarify. I ordered the spaghetti with grilled chicken. It came out piping hot, actually too hot to to eat. But once it cooled down a bit I took a bite. The noodles were cooked a bit al-dente, which isn't my favorite but was ok. The sauce used is San Marzano which is very authentic, but there was very little seasoning in the sauce. No basil or anything to give it some boost. Lastly, the noodles themselves seemed no different than some Barilla pasta I would cook at home. I struggled to realize the difference between "made to order" if it's the same thing I'd make at home with noddles from the grocery store. In either case, I ate most of the pasta. I will definitely come back and try the Bolognese and pizzas, but so far the pasta didn't win me over when I compare it to the handful of others Italian restaurants who produce their own pasta, have creative seasonings and flavors, for about the same price. read more

I ordered fettuccine alfredo and it was easily the best I've ever had. I usually avoid it because the Americanized version is so heavy - this was fettuccine alfredo as it should be. I paired it with the Super Tuscan, which was delightful. My partner had the gnocchi with pesto, and we also shared sides of meatballs and the chicken with capers and olives. This place is second to none. The food was just incredible. There are a few good Italian places in the area, including a few right in winter park. This place puts them all to shame, the food here is authentic Italian, not the Americanized Italian you find at a lot of places. Some may find that it's expensive for the portion sizes (which aren't huge), but the outstanding quality of the food makes it well worth it! I especially recommend the gnocchi. All the food was super fresh and delicious. Nice add of roasted vegetables to the Vegetable Salad. The bread is obviously homemade -- very tasty. We got the special antipasto board with bread, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella cheese and a mixture of vegetables. They have a nice wine list and a couple of Italian beers -- one from a microbrewery. Had a great experience at Rome's Flavours (English spelling preferred) this evening.  First thing - this establishment is located a little off Park Ave.  If you are into places to see and be seen this is not your place.  Go elsewhere on Park Ave and pay twice the price for maybe a quarter of the service and half the quality of the food when it finally arrives at the "trendy" establishments.  For what it is worth, the staff is not covered head to foot with tattoos and speak very clear English.   Make no mistake, the food is cooked to order, this is not a dressed up fast food joint (as many establishments on Park Ave basically are).  The Chef understands how to properly blend ingredients and prepare the food to the proper degree of "doneness".  I had the salmon this evening, it was as promised sourced from North Atlantic (likely Faroe Islands).  On more than one occasion I have received Chilean farm raised (not good) when told it was sourced from some other place.  Yes, someone who eats a lot of salmon can tell the difference.     My wife got a pasta dish. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious.  They are not stingy with the sauce either.  The menu is  varied just enough, but too much.  Good wine list as well.   The service was excellent.  How many times do you spend half your meal trying to flag down the wait staff?  Not here, Rome Flavours is an intimate setting where all the staff function as a well oiled machine.  The server we had was well acquainted with the menu, but did not guess when I asked exactly where the salmon was sourced from.   The seating was half inside, half outside.  The outside seating was perfectly arranged.  Every outdoor seating establishment directly on Park Ave have about half (if not more) of their tables either so close to the curb the table gets knocked l folks open car doors or folks knocked into the tables when walking down Park Ave.  The clientele were classy folks when we were there.  This is as opposed to many Park Ave places where the ladies have more than half their tops exposed and / or the patrons are loud enough to dampen your dining experience.   Could be our new favorite place on Park Avenue. read more

We have now been here twice. Both times the service was not great. The first time we went with kids and the waitress refused to work with us on any kids options. The portions are also really small. This place is my absolute favorite restaurant for any occasion. They do everything right here! the food is incredible no matter what you order... and you can always tell it's fresh, you can even see them making and cutting the pasta at the counter. The atmosphere is warm and inviting whether you sit inside or outside. The staff is kind and helpful, service is fantastic.
