Favorite Japanese izakaya in Seattle. Authentic Japanese street eats done well. Excellent happy hour with solid food and drink specials. Recommend checking out lunch bento specials are great. Friendly staff, lively, rowdy vibes- always a good time at Rondo! Favorite dishes include the Bara Chirashi Donburi, uni cream croquette, spicy negitoro roll spicy tuna on crispy rice. Save room for the deluxe parfait - delicious and perfect for sharing.

Had a great happy hour at Rondo Japanese Kitchen. I'd read that their bara chirashi donburi is a must-try, and luckily it's on the daily happy hour menu. I ordered that along with the spicy tuna on crispy sushi rice and a sake. The chirashi was a standout--loaded with sweet shrimp, wagyu beef, uni, and a generous variety of fresh seafood. The spicy tuna crispy rice was also solid, with a really interesting, flavorful twist. The vibe (as you can see in the photos) is warm and inviting, with an open kitchen that adds to the experience. Service was friendly and quick, which made everything even better. Highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood.

Flew in from San Diego and checked this spot out as our first meal. Parking on the street was easy but gotta pay a few bucks. Service was excellent! Server was very nice and had great recommendations. Food came out very fast which was a plus for us. The ribs were amazing. The bento boxes are huge. We got random noodles with soup for the kids and it was surprisingly one of the highlights. Highly recommend checking this place out!

A MUST in Seattle. Hands down the best in Capitol Hill. You have to try the uni noodles, insane

I read some reviews and feel like most people think the same thing about the Bara Chirashi Donburi so I'll keep it succinct: great presentation and a great variety of ingredients, but they don't combine for a cohesive dish whatsoever. A good example is what is a random piece of beef doing at the front of my dish? I did enjoy some of the meats like the shrimp, but I thought most of the fish wasn't super fresh or high quality. There was still some flavor though so I wouldn't say I had an unpleasant experience by any means - just probably not an experience worth $25. We went around 3pm for happy hour - service was pretty fast but that might've been because there were around 4 other people inside eating. Ambience was pretty standard for a casual Japanese restaurant. 3.4/5

Again 10/10! Their seafood always so fresh and the service was top tier!!! Will definitely go back when I'm around the area!

What a VERSATILE menu! Similar to the sister restaurants, Tamari Bar and Hi-Life on Bainbridge, this restaurant was SO delicious! It's pretty small inside so it's highly recommended to make a reservation. We got seated for 6 and had to wait for a few minutes since there was a group that was close to being done. When we got to our table, we had to squeeze in the corners bc there were tables around with small space so that wasn't great but we had managed. They even have hooks to hang your coat on the walls which is super convenient. They had happy hour until 5:30pm. I got the Rondo Bento which was $17 at happy hour. It featured Rondo's famous fried chicken, fresh tuna tataki, wagyu bench cutlet (almost similar to Korean BBQ short ribs,) fresh yet tasty grilled fish (I believe this was eel) with Japanese pickles and rice! It was superb! My bf had the maze-men! Delicious too! My bf and I shared the curry donuts! These are one of a kind -- must try and if you like curry! We also had the spicy tuna crispy sushi bites! Also a must try! At the end, we had a whisky soft serve and a deluxe parfait! The whiskey soft serve, again, one of a kind -- delicious! The parfait reminded me of Nana's green tea -- I got the Hoji-cha flavor and wow, it was a sight to see and it took me a while to finish. Bf loved it! Their yuzu and ginger-ale highballs are so refreshing and good! Recommend the highballs!

Great spot for a quick lunch special! $20-$25 for 3 mini donburis or the bento. The donburi is short ribs, spicy tuna poke, and mini kaisen donburi with tako, tuna, albacore, ikura, and salmon with sprouts diced daikon over rice. The poke was only okay but the sliced salmon especially was so buttery smooth. The bento had a flavorful pork rib, chicken karaage, ebikatsu roll, and salad. Good option if you want a lot of variety in a reasonable portion! Pretty casual ambiance (we walked in around noon on a weekday) and very nice service! Would recommend

My friend and I came here for the happy hour. She got the BARA CHIRASHI DONBURI which she liked. I got the Classic BB noodles. The noodles were cooked well, but there was very little flavor. They were also all stuck together, so a bit difficult to eat. The inside is very simple. A nice casual place to hang out with friends, & I would come back for happy hour drinks. The service was also very quick.

How can this place be sooo good and so reasonably priced? They have a rotating lunch menu and we tried the trio sampler - delicious and hearty. Came with a chirashi bowl, a curry bowl, and an unagi bowl - each worthy of its own place in my stomach. Also tried the ramen which came with a roll on the side. The ramen had a kick and was full of umami flavor. The menu selection was so extensive, will have to come again. Super friendly service with helpful suggestions. Cool ambiance of a Japanese gastropub.

Rondo has a very chill and comfortable atmosphere, perfect for hanging out with friends. My friend and I tried the Rainbow Uni Shooter and Uni Hand Roll, the uni was great quality and tasted really fresh. For the main dish, I had the Bara Chirashi Donburi and Amabi was so good. Everything was delicious and the fish was very fresh. The staff were friendly and provided great service. Overall, it was a great experience.

Pictured: spicy tuna donburi: i should've read the description on the menu because this was not what I was expecting when I ordered spicy tuna. I appreciated the greens and pickled vegetable in the dish. Not pictured: maze-men. It had diced potato which was interesting, but was not texturally appealing to me. Would've opted for a crunchier veg such as bamboo shoots. Overall, I have had better here. We were also seated in a crowded area where it was hard to get in and out due an obstructing table despite half the restaurant being empty. Next time I'll probably stick with the chirashi or curry.

Fast-forward to 2026 and decided to dine here again with my guy. I'm sad to say that lightning did not strike twice. We had a reservation for 7:15 and were quickly seated. I had been dreaming about their Chirashi Jewel Box and the Maze-men that I had so enjoyed on my first visit. Our waitress, a sweet and friendly pink-haired young woman named Charity, came to take our orders. I was disappointed to learn that their wine selection was EXTREMELY limited: a house red, and a house white (Chardonnay). I'm not a fan of Chardonnay. She suggested a cherry blossom cider so I decided to go with that. Disappointment number one. Disappointment number two landed right afterwards, when I was informed the Chirashi Jewel Box was no longer on the menu. Ugh. My heart sank, as it was the main reason I had wanted to come back. So I decided on the Maze-men. Boyfriend ordered the Dan Dan Ramen and we asked for the Mt. Cabbage salad as our appetizer, lured by the promise of how good it was on the menu. What we got was literally a pile of plain finely-shredded green cabbage on a plate, with a tiny metal cup of dressing on the side. That's it. No other veggies, no other seasonings. I almost thought it was a joke. There wasn't even enough dressing to dampen all of the cabbage. But we were hungry, so there we were like two rabbits, attempting to navigate the messy shredded cabbage with chopsticks. Our mains arrived. The Mazemen was not as I remembered. There was no egg in it; it was super-oily, and was very spicy yet also somehow bland and lacking in flavor. Boyfriend thought his ramen was fine, but nothing special. Overall it was a letdown and a very pricey one at that. I guess you just cannot recreate an experience. Sigh.

It held up nicely to being a great finish to a very high quality meal. We are definitely coming back!

Second, the amount of time I spend in your restaurant heavily depends on the speed of your service (spoiler alert: it was not fast). They then sat us at the most uncomfortable table I have ever had the displeasure of dining at. The table was low and the seats were so deep that I could not rest my back on them while eating. Definitely brought the mood down further. Food was a hit or a miss, no in between. Hit: Garlic short ribs (my partner said these were tender and a good portion for happy hour), Poke sushi roll (good fish quality and taste) Misses: First Ave Roll (sauce was just walloped on top, weak flavors), veggie and shrimp tempura (heavy and soggy batter), pink lychee cooler (artificially sweet with no strong lychee flavor), green tea tiramisu (photo speaks for itself).
