Came here on a sunny Sunday afternoon and it was busy and popular that day. The line moved quickly and we ordered on a tablet, there's some seating inside and limited outside seating which is great for the warmer days ahead. I got the pork katsu sando and the matcha soft serve. The ice cream had a good matcha flavor and was sugary enough that my friend who doesn't care for matcha liked it enough to take a few bites. The restaurant is next to Gasworks park so we took our food over there to look at the view and picnic. The sandwich is juicy, has cabbage which cuts the fat and the standard tonkatsu sauce on it which gave it that flavor. 8/10, def recommend if you're in the area.
The place was a cute vibe, its self serve ordering and you buss yourself too, kind of sucks because people will be more prone not to tip which sucks for the employees. The flavor was great but the sandwiches weren't as crispy as I thought it would be. The even on the pork curry bowl the katsu was real soft and the breading didn't stick . Kind of disappointed.
The katsu sandwiches were yummy; flavorful sauce and a good portion of meat. However, while the breading on our chicken katsu sandwich was crispy, the pork katsu sandwich was soggy. In addition, the pork katsu sandwich came out cold (despite dining in), whereas the chicken katsu sandwich was still warm. You order at a kisok by the door. There are tables inside for indoor seating. When your food is ready, you pick them out at the counter. After your meal, you bus your own dishes.
We were craving some katsu sandos for dinner and headed to Daruma, a newer spot serving katsu in sandwiches and curries, and huge mugs of Sapporo. We went on a rainy evening so there was street parking available across the street. You order on a kiosk and food comes out fairly quickly. We got the pork katsu sando, pork katsu curry, and a side of spice fries. The sando is on the saucy side but makes for a satisfying meal combined with the fries. The spice fries are perfectly crunchy and definitely have a kick! The real star of the show was the katsu curry. The flavor was SO good - deep umami flavor just as good as the curries we've had in Japan. Paired with fluffy, chewy rice, sweet pickled onions, and crispy katsu. The perfect bite - sooo yummy! We talked to one of the co-owners and learned they get their rice straight from Hokkaido! I can tell they put a lot of passion into this and it shows. Friendly service and delicious, authentic food. We will definitely be back often and can't wait for sunnier days where we can take our sandos outside and have a picnic!
Excellent food! Loved the pork sando, would definitely return again. There is a kiosk to order from inside but wish they had more than one kiosks. You can order online ahead of time as well. The credit card swipe on the kiosk does not seem to work, person in front of me had the same problem, but eventually realized there's a tap option on the side. It's a little small inside so tables were almost filled but also a couple tables outside. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
This place opened after I got back from Japan. My friend wanted to go after experiencing the sandos in Japan. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations since Japan sets the bar so high for food. The place wasn't too hard to find, but you can easily miss it if you aren't paying attention. It's tucked away in a corner of the building. It's not a very big place, but it's a good size for a quick lunch. Ordering was through the kiosk and the food came out in a timely manner. The fried stuff seemed to be made fresh. For the food, we got the oyako (tamago/chicken katsu) sando and the Tokyo-style ebi sando combos with nori shio and spice fries. We tried the oyako sando first. The tamago had the perfect texture balance. Not too creamy, not too chunky. The chicken katsu was served hot. It was crispy and tender. The tamago could've used a little more sugar to let it pop because I think the chicken kinda took over in terms of flavor. This sando would probably better separate than together. I didn't like mixing the cold tamago with the hot katsu (just a personal preference). I would've enjoyed much more if the tamago was warmer, but it was still pretty good overall. Next was the Tokyo-style ebi sando. Now this sando really impressed me. It was hot, crispy, and full flavor. I'm not a fan of slaw but it went so well with the ebi and the sauce just binds all the flavors together. This sando alone is worth going back for. The fries were alright. I enjoyed the nori shio fries. I think they could've used more seasoning or some salt. It went very well with the spicy mayo. The spice fries had a bit too much seasoning. Flavor was good but the seasoning overpowered the fries and you couldn't really taste anything else. Neither sauce went well with it. The only problem I had with this place was that the soda machine was out of CO2, so all the soda was VERY flat. But that's an easy fix and hopefully will be different next time. Overall I'm actually kinda impressed how good the sandos were. Pretty decent value at about $20 per person for a meal. I definitely recommend checking this place out.

I ended up going a classic pork katsu sandwich and made it a combo where I got some fries as well. It was a decently busy day, but they made sure to get the food out to us at a reasonable time. Although we didn't dine in, I did want to note that the inside was nice! There were seating options inside and outside. The inside had simple but fun decorations and even had a mini claw machine as well. Now the food. It was so good! The sandwich flavors blended perfectly! The fries were a good addition as well with my favorite part being the nori that's added into it. I WILL be back and ready to try out the other things they have to offer!
The ipad at the front makes ordering very convenient, but I would strongly recommend ordering online before coming! The rate at which the sandwhiches were being made was unfortunately quite slow when I was there. There was a lot of people in the store but 80% didn't have their food yet as the kitchen doesn't seem to be able to keep up with the popularity yet... When we got the sandwhich, presentation wise it looks very pretty! Flavor wise it is quite underwhelming, I think adding more flavorful toppings into it like pickled daikon could really build on the complexity there. The bread was also quite soggy and sort of... pathetically thin... I'll be back to try some of their other sandwhiches, hoping that I just got unlucky and will get some toasty crunchy bread next time!! Overall though, quite disappointed and decently overhyped. Parking is manageable here though!

Clean, decent prices, top quality food and excellent service. It's cashless. Order on a kiosk, grab a seat at a table, high top, or counter, and prepare to be in food heaven. Really cute Daruma-themed interior makes it a fun place for families too, or those looking for an authentic Japanese experience. They have mini-vending machines of tiny stuffed animals that also brought home a Japanese experience. Ian, the proprietor, was very friendly and he didn't mind us asking him questions. We joined the rewards program and we plan to stop there for lunch on our next trip to Seattle.

There wasn't a whole lot of seating here, maybe 5-6 tables and some bar seating, so maybe not great for a larger group. I got the chicken katsu sando and opted for the combo which comes with your choice of fries and a drink. I chose the spice fries option - it definitely had a kick to it and wasn't that pleasing for my mouth, will be opting for the nori one next time. The sando was good! Super saucy and somewhat messy to eat. Portion sizes were decent and filling as well. Sauces were somewhat of a miss for me, don't feel like it added much flavor to the sando or fries. Will be back to try the curry next time.
We visited Daruma Sando this past Sunday for lunch. This restaurant is off the main Fremont strip, so there seems to be less foot traffic, making the not quite as busy as I expected (although it was still around 50% capacity). Ordering is done at a single kiosk right by the front entrance. Spicy Chicken Katsu Sando ($12.50) - When I see a place that has a non-spicy and a spicy version of a dish, I automatically think that the spicy is probably just a mild heat. Restaurants that seriously care about heat typically have labeling (e.g. 1-3 pepper level), or allow the customer to choose their desired spice level. So going into this sandwich, I thought it would be a mild, pleasant spicy. I was totally wrong. This sandwich is mouthburningly hot, similar in heat to hot or extra hot at other places. In addition to a copious amount of shichimi enriched mayo, they also spice up the chicken breading, making me sweat with every bite. Otherwise, the sandwich rests on two pieces of standard sized fluffy milk bread, toasted on one side more than the other. On the bottom, they slather an aggressive amount of the spicy mayo, and on the top, plenty of tonkatsu sauce. This creates a bite that's very spicy, a bit smoky and a bit mouth numbing, but also a pleasing sweet, savory, and kind of fruity bite. The chicken thigh in the center is breaded rather thinly and sloppily. I believe there is excess moisture on the surface of the meat so the breading doesn't adhere well and instead easily detaches as an entire sheet. It's also not a very moisture tolerant breading, so it completely softens and wilts in between the two creamy sauces. The chicken is fried and still has a somewhat moist texture. On top of the meat is a bed of thinly shredded cabbage, which probably also doesn't help the breading much. The bread doesn't stand up to the interior ingredients very well. They try to toast it a bit, but the bread seems to be almost vestigial, as it compresses into thin sheets while eating. This is why typically katsu sandwiches use thicker sliced milk bread to help make the sandwich more robust. Interestingly they offer curry as a side to dip the sandwich into. As if the sandwich isn't already enough of a mess to eat! Overall I found the sandwich to be a little too spicy for my palate - if I visit again, I'd definitely stick with the regular no spicy. (4/5) Pork Katsu Curry ($13) - Again, the katsu here, this time pork instead of chicken, has a breading layer that doesn't adhere to the meat at all. It's also not especially crisp, really missing any crags and valleys to try to deliver maximal surface area. The meat is definitely thicker cut and it is cooked until well done, fully white in the center. In comparison with the chicken, the pork is on the drier and tougher side with some sinew-ish portions to chew through. It's not totally dried out, but definitely could use some more moisture. The curry is pretty thick and when cooled, almost becomes gel-like in texture. The taste is very sweet, with a kind of apple or citrus-like fruity flavor. I think the saltiness and curry spice flavor is appropriate, but it's just a little too sweet for me. To be honest, it could be from the influence of the katsu sauce drizzle on top. I'm not sure if it's completely from box curry mix or they do something to spice it up. I haven't eaten it in a long time, but the taste reminds me of Vermont Curry. The rice is good. It's medium grain cooked perfectly. The grains are nicely cooked through but still have a bit of bite to help stand up against the curry sauce. Great mouthfeel with each individual grain being very distinct. The dish also comes with some standard fukujinzuke pickles and shredded cabbage. (4/5) Spice Fries, Spicy Mayo ($4.50) - These fries, served lukewarm and floppy, are doused with copious amounts of shichimi (seriously a ton, like an entire small shaker's worth of powder), making them powdery and very dry. Since there isn't much fat to transfer the flavor, it's not nearly as spicy as the amount of powder would suggest, and instead mainly tastes like smoky dried chiles. It really requires a dipping sauce or the powder starts sucking up all the saliva in the mouth. For the sauce, we went with the spicy mayo. It's sweet to start, then goes into a smoky spiciness that also numbs the tongue a bit. I wouldn't get these fries again. (2/5) Note; Daruma Sando currently does not supply chopsticks for their customers. I spoke with the owner and he said that he wasn't expecting the curry rice dishes to be so popular and so never bothered to order chopsticks! Daruma Sando is one of the more affordable katsu curry and sandwich places in the city - our meal for two came in under $40 including tax and tip. After going to Japan earlier this year, I've been dying to try Daruma Sando to bring me back the crispy boi joy I had while boppin' around Tokyo and munchin' on everything in sight. Katsu is one of the finest fried items known to humankind, and even though eating fried food makes me feel like I've been punched in the stomach recently, I was willing to take a rocket to the gut for some stellar katsu and fries. Daruma has the set up of a no-frills establishment that knows they're going to be churning out orders. The kiosk order system isn't that common in the US because it seems ridiculously unfriendly, but Japan is about efficiency with a focus on the food. They only had two people working here so it was slow, but absolutely worth it. The spicy chicken katsu was incredible. Everything that was on this sandwich had a reason for being there. The cutlet itself was incredibly juicy and crispy. The right amount of sauce was applied so as to not make the sandwich itself soggy (critical on a sandwich with fried elements), and then the cabbage on top gives it a bit of freshness. I'm pretty sure the bread was fine, but that isn't why we're here. It's a vessel for fried food. The fries seem to need a bit of work. I think they may have gotten soggy because they came in a to-go box, but the seasoning was fantastic. They also come with whatever sauce you want, and there is a plethora to choose from. I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy mayo, which I then added to the katsu sando as well. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the Fremont area. read more
Between Ok and Good. 3.5 Had this place on my radar for a bit, we came by recently to check it out. We came in mid afternoon so it wasn't busy and had open spots to dine in. You order at the kiosk/tablet, pay, get your order number, go get your drinks, find a table. They will call your name or number when your order is ready. We tried the promo Oyako Sando(egg salad and Chicken Katsu together) sandwich. It's a honker of a sando, messy, hope you like mayo, katsu wasn't as crisp as I liked, bread does get a bit soggy at the end, napkins are your friend. We also tried the regular Pork Katsu Sando. Same here, wasn't as crisp as we thought it would be, pork was ok too, pretty classic sandwich. Made these into combos, which comes with a choice of fries and a drink. You get to choose your seasoning on the fries, we got one Nori and Spice style. Combo comes with a fountain drink, or pay a little extra for a bottled drink. FYI: They go heavy on the seasoning for your fries. You get a choice of dipping sauce, we chose their Katsu sauce and the spicy mayo. Another FYI: Spice fries with spicy mayo gets a little heavy in your mouth with the spice. Don't forget to clear your own table when you are done. Prices are about $20/person if you get a combo. I had been wanting to try this place for a bit so finally got a chance to, and I'm so very glad that I did. The staff was wonderful, the food was fresh and delicious. Not many places serve traditional Japanese style curry katsu so I was pleasantly surprised and it brought back memories. A must for chicken katsu curry lovers. read more

Favorite sandos in Seattle! Tasty pork katsu sando, ebi mayo. Also tried the menchi katsu sando, but preferred the pork katsu and ebi mayo. Sandos are flavorful, freshly made with premium ingredients, well composed. Recommend stopping by Daruma to pick up a treat! read more

Since there isn't much fat to transfer the flavor, it's not nearly as spicy as the amount of powder would suggest, and instead mainly tastes like smoky dried chiles. It really requires a dipping sauce or the powder starts sucking up all the saliva in the mouth. For the sauce, we went with the spicy mayo. It's sweet to start, then goes into a smoky spiciness that also numbs the tongue a bit. I wouldn't get these fries again. I spoke with the owner and he said that he wasn't expecting the curry rice dishes to be so popular and so never bothered to order chopsticks! Daruma Sando is by the same folks who run Menya Musashi that serves up freshly made katsu sandwiches and curry plates at a decent price (~14 bucks for a sandwich!). Overall, portion sizes are decent and the restaurant wasn't too busy even at 12PM on a Saturday. It's walkable to Gasworks and while only street parking is available, it's far enough from the main Fremont street that it isn't a huge struggle. Ebi Katsu Sando (4.25/5): Bread is slightly sweet and super fluffy. The shrimp katsu was a homerun - nice crisp outside, bouncy perfectly cooked shrimp inside. I actually quite liked their tonkatsu sauce, which added a nice bit of tang. Chicken Katsu Curry (4/5): Chicken was juicy and tender with a delicious crunch all around. Curry was pretty standard, but you really can't complain at that price point. Pickles added a nice bit of brightness to the plate as well. read more
If you are looking for decent katsu sandos with a variety of katsu options, Daruma is the spot. My favorite was the menchi katsu as it had a lot of meat that was both tender and flavorful. I mainly recommend the sandos. We tried a couple of the sides but weren't particularly impressed by anything except the sandos. read more
Restaurant is located on a lil corner a little tucked away near Gasworks. Came right after the Diplo run and it was a popular spot for post-meal. You order on kiosks and wait for your number to be called, waited 40 minutes this day but we did other things so it didn't feel like endless waiting. Got ours for take-out since they don't have too much seating inside or outside. Got the Spicy Menchi Katsu Sando 4/5 It indeed has a kick to it so you don't have to be concerned if it will be spicy or not. The ground beef patty katsu was soft and juicy, I do like to have more bite in my sandwich so I'd opt for chicken or pork next time but glad I got to try. One sandwich is probably enough to satisfy but you might make you yearn for more or you can share a sandwich for a snack. Pork Katsu Curry 4/5 Given that the restaurant has ties with other restaurants like Tamari Bar and Gyo Gyo En, the curry was of course very good, not as good as Gyo Gyo En but the base was there. The katsu does come a little sauced but if you eat it right away the katsu still has a crisp to it. The pickles they include are really delicious eaten with the curry and katsu, like a slightly sweet crunch. Spiced Fries 2/5 Maybe with the rush the fries just weren't up to par because the spice mix on the fries tasted bitter and it can get soggy quick. I prefer a crispy Mcdonald-esque fry so this just didn't hit the spot. I might try again eating at the restaurant with the nori. Sandwiches can be considered a little expensive for what they are but you save a lot of time on convenience. I think for value, it's pretty good. I'd be back when I'm in the area with a hankering for a good meaty sandwich. read more

Tried the chicken katsu sandwich here and it was really solid. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but the standout was definitely the dressing--it had this great subtle sweetness balanced with a savory kick. I'm not sure exactly what was in it, but it made the sandwich! Grabbed an order of fries on the side and they were a great addition. Service is handled through a kiosk, which was quick and easy. I'll start by saying they do not play with their heat! Spicy is definitely an above average level and it would be nice if they had levels between spicy and non-spicy. I snagged a spicy chicken katsu sando and spicy popcorn chicken and my taste buds were burning off! Almost a numbing spice but not exactly mala either. Overall, the sando was wet and pretty drenched in sauce so I also wish there was a light sauce option. It was difficult to taste the actual chicken flavor when the sauce and spice were attacking my taste buds. I was thrown off by the price at first, but the sandos here were decently filling. Either the owner or a worker came out and asked if we wanted water cups and I thought that was pretty nice, left a good impression for sure. Besides that though, it's very much a self service spot. Order on a tablet, get your name called, pick up the order, and then bus your own table. Spicy Chicken Katsu Sando - as noted above, the sando was pretty wet and full of sauce. Combined with a very soft katsu, the overall sando was soft which can be a good thing, but I do enjoy a crispier katsu. The spice was also pretty high so I'd opt for non-spicy in the future because I wasn't able to appreciate the contents. Spicy Popcorn Chicken - these were somewhere inbetween soggy and crispy. Chicken was tender but the breading was more like a light coating and not a deep fry. Lighter than standard karaage or popcorn chicken, which is probably good for caloric intake but underwhelming. read more

Potato & egg salad was alright, prob can skip that, too. We got there around 11am & it was getting crowded. Service was a little slow. We left about 12:30pm. Saw this spot on a bike ride and decided to give it a go! There's a kiosk right when you step in and there's a good amount of indoor seatings and two tables outside. I ordered a Ebi katsu sandwich, popcorn chicken, and Takoyaki. Sandwich had a good crunch and was very flavorful. My friend told me about this place and I was so excited because it's so close to where I work and we didn't have this kind of restaurant in the neighborhood before!! I decided to get some sandos after work a day after I learned of this place. I got the pork katsu sando and the croquette sando because they both looked good. I also wanted ebi katsu sando, but I had shrimp for lunch so decided to save it for next time. The pork katsu was thick, juicy and tender and it was so good!!!!! I haven't had croquette in so long so that was amazing too. One sandwich is as expensive as other venues so I didn't really hesitate to get two items. I couldn't finish two sandos in one go, so I reheated (in the toaster oven, not the microwave, duh!) the leftovers and eating it for breakfast now. They are still very good and filling! People working here are friendly too. I had a nice conversation with the Japanese guy running the place. The space is clean and had a lot of seats. I am looking forward to going back and getting the ebi katsu sando and the menchi katsu next. PS, I know the word sando has become more known, but it's still weird to write it out here. The word remains as サンドイッチ in my brain, and I cringe when I hear influencers say "sando." read more
First time visiting this place. We went on Labor Day. It wasn't very busy and this place is casual... yoou order at the kiosk and wait for your food. You can eat there or get it to go. Pretty straightforward and didn't take long. The food was delicious we got the potato croquette sando and the chicken katsu sando with curry sauce for dipping. It was good for a quick lunch. I've seen this place advertised a couple times when scrolling through IG, and some of my friends have also mentioned it in passing too, so I decided to drive up to Fremont to give it a try. Parking is not that rough, as I snagged a spot nearby on Densmore Ave and there were more empty parking spots on that same street. The inside reminds me of a regular dine-in burger area, except for the decor of daruma dolls close to the kitchen with the restaurant logo just behind it all, and bar/counter seating in front of all that. Overall place was really clean and tables were spotless when I arrived. There's a kiosk near the front (that I almost missed when walking in) where you place your order. You then get a receipt with your number, and servers will call out that number when your order's ready to be picked up at the front. Napkins, utensils, water and to-go boxes are all self-serve here, and you seat yourself in either 2-person or 4-person tables, or at the aforementioned counter close to the daruma dolls. I didn't have much contact with servers other than asking for the restroom code (there's one gender neutral restroom) and picking up my order, so not to much to say on service here. I got both the pork katsu sando and the ebi (shrimp) katsu sando. Both sandwiches came with cabbage, kewpie mayo, katsu sauce and the katsu of my choice all kept together by lightly toasted bread. The combinations remind me of Katsu Burger where the patty is instead chicken or pork katsu, only that toasted bread is used instead of sesame buns. Both sandwiches were so delicious and the pork katsu especially was juicy and tender with tons of flavor! That ended up being the sandwich I finished first, while I ate the whole shrimp katsu and left some of the bread as I was getting full from eating both and the katsu sauce ended up being a little too much. Speaking of the shrimp katsu, the shrimp itself was buttery and a little sweet even, with the panko bread crumbs adding saltiness that the shrimp already had. I'll come back for both their menchi katsu and potato croquette sandos, or even get the spicy versions of the sandwiches since they seem to be a hit. read more

Wish the bread is thicker or toast it one side first so it can hold up the sandwich and sauce better. If you are not a fan of Spicy from schzuan peppercorn taste, you might want to keep your popcorn chicken non spicy. I ordered delivery, so maybe it'd be better to eat it fresh at the restaurant. I ordered the Tamago Sando, Ebi Katsu Sando, Spicy Popcorn Chicken, and Spice Fries. The sando bread is toasted, and I'm used to it being more soft and fluffy. The sandos were still good, but I felt like the tamago could use a bit more seasoning. And the Ebi Katsu Sando had lots of cabbage or slaw that overpowered the ebi katsu, so it could have used more sauce. There aren't many Japanese sandwich spots around, and when this once opened my friends and I decided to give it a try! They have a few types of sandwiches on their menu as well as curries, but we all ended up with sandwiches this time around. The chicken katsu sandwich I got was pretty good - the chicken was crispy and juicy, and the flavor was definitely there. I will say that the bread was a little thin and tough for what I prefer though, especially for Japanese milk bread. We also tried their fries which were just ok. read more
Daruma Sando is a new Katsu Sandwhich spot in Fremont. They also serve curry rice plates as well. I went with a friend and there is a good amount of seating as well as some counter seats as well. Parking is pretty easy as there is a lot of street parking. Overall I would come back but not go out of my way. If I was in the area I would consider it as an option. Staff: nice (4/5) Sanitation status: (5/5) Takoyaki (3/5) Takoyaki was okay to me there is a good amount of octopus in each one but nothing special about it. Nori Shio Fries (3/5) The fries were also nothing too special, pretty much what you would expect from the seaweed flakes and salt. they were on the thinner side. Spicy Menchi Katsu Sando (4.5/5) This Sando was my personal favorite out of the 2 that I've tried so far. They add a lettuce mixture with the spicy sauce in there, which was a little too saucy for me but the flavor overall was well rounded. The katsu was still semi crispy. The Menchi was pretty thick and you could taste the onions throughout. Spicy Pork Katsu Sando (4/5) This sando was pretty good as well. the piece of pork does fill out most of the sandwhich. The spicy lettuce mixture was here as well. The katsu was less crispy because of the katsu sauce on it but was fried pretty well, I wouldn't say it was super juicy. read more

Very friendly staff, great food and nice, clean eating area in one of the nicest parts of Seattle! I'm a big egg salad guy and I must say this is one of the best in the city! Not your convenient store sandwich. Small little shop on the corner. Looks larger than it is. Cozy with actually lots of seating. Food was great. Loved the two sandwiches and curry that I got. Got the food to go. Service was fast. Food took about 20 mins from time of ordering. read more
There is some free street parking in the area. There is also some outdoor and a lot of indoor seating at the restaurant. You order at the kiosk. Staff are friendly. Food seemed made to order. The restaurant was very clean inside. I ordered the spicy pork sandwich combo and the curry dip. It was very tasty and would order again. read more
