I'd passed by this restaurant dozens of times over the years and had always thought that it lacked curb appeal and was tricky access because of the amount of traffic at such a busy intersection, but I'd recently seen one of those food influencers online that speak too quickly and overemphasize everything to entice you to check it out and my girlfriend and I were looking for something other than the usual spots to eat at this particular day, so we did. We walked in and were greeted unenthusiastically by the woman behind the register after she walked out from the back and I tried to make some light banter and talk about the menu, mentioning that we had just seen a video online that made it look like a good spot, and she didn't engage at all. Okay, maybe she was just tired. So my girlfriend and I both ordered a chicken teriyaki plate and out number was called, we began to eat and were looking over the menu, which looked good but was very standard, aside from items where you could put hot sauce or hot Cheetos on it sort of deal. The food was just okay--nothing to write home about. It was a standard chicken teriyaki plate with a soda. Walking in on a day where the World Cup games were going on, one television was turned off and the other was showing a tv show with the volume off. There was no music in the restaurant, which was sort of weird feeling. The only thing in the background that cut through the four people eating and speaking to one another was the chopping of meat in the background. As we sat there to eat, we realized just how bare the menu really was and how expensively priced most items were. There were advertisements taped to the wall advertising discounts that had ended in the middle of last year right next to us as well, which was odd. Do they still honor the discounts or do they just not clean things up thoroughly? The decor was very cookie-cutter smash burger hipster, with the silver paneling lining the walls and the silver tables and chairs throughout. Was in the Whittier area, and this place looked interesting so I thought I would give it a try. They have the common teriyaki options like similar type spots; bowls, burgers, fries, etc... First of all, the grilled chicken was great from the teriyaki plate we ordered. My personal opinion on the sauce though, is that it is bland. I am saying this from a guy who loves teriyaki sauce. I would give the chicken a 5/5 but the sauce would be a 2/5. My son had a cheeseburger and thoroughly enjoyed it with fries. So good burger here. Will I come back? Prices increased while portions decreased. Ordered two large bowls and they were so light; they were barely half filled. Portions used to be good size and were cheaper, it's a little disappointing. Also skimpy on the sauce, they charge and they're half filled (didn't realize I got charged for it until I got my receipt. Overall, the food was good. Service was okay. The food reminded me of a Waba Grill or Flamebroiler. There is a small area to sit outside with two tables if you prefer not listening to the television. Just visited this location unfortunately won't be coming back. I'm not one to post a review on something based on bad or good service. However, if you can't keep basic cleanliness and quality of food you're serving that's different! I got 2 chicken and beef plates with a salad. When I was putting dressing on my salad I noticed that the lettuce had dirt on it literally had dirt didn't even bother to rinse out the dirt.
