What a surprise! The restaurant is run by a family and each time we have gone we have seen the kids running around in the back while the parents served and cooked the food. There are a ton of Chinese places around but this really stands out. The Pineapple Fried Rice is amazing and have never had anything like it. Overall the food has always been very good and has a different flair. The outdoor seating is nice but shares it with the mexican place and noodles next door - but on a nice night/afternoon, it is really great to sit outside. This restaurant is amazing. Hands down best sushi at the best price I've had in Columbus. The service was fantastic and they really seemed to take pride in their product as well as their customer's experience overall. My boyfriend and I split the Dancing Roll and Firecracker Roll as well as the General Tso's Chicken and an Asahi. It was a ton of food and came to around $35 (not including tip),. I couldn't believe the quality of food that came at that price. We'll definitely be going back and highly recommend giving it a try. read more

It's really hard to find a consistently good sushi restaurant in Columbus, and I think this may be the one! The free edamame, while occasionally overcooked, always starts the meal off nicely. The sushi is always prepared quickly and is very fresh. The miso soup is warm and tasty. I normally just eat normal maki and nigiri (damn gluten allergies) which are exceptional, however my boyfriend has experimented with a lot of their special rools (there are A LOT - we even took a take out menu home to study it to make sure we weren't missing any!) and he's loved everything he's ordered. We haven't tried anything from their hot food menu yet, but from spying on other diners dishes, it looks (and smells) pretty good as well. Hopefully they keep up the good work! Such great food. We both ordered bento boxes and one additional roll to share and it was ALOT of food! And so tasty! Everything was hot, looked appetizing, and arrived fairly quickly. I would give 5 stars but for the service. I completely understand challenges related to language barriers but "annoyed that you are here" is a universally translatable facial expression. She was probably just having a bad day, we had her last time and she was great but this time there were some annoyingly loud customers sitting a few tables away from us. Stopped here for sushi for lunch today with my wife. We love trying out new sushi spots and had high hopes. Before ordering I asked the sushi chef what was good today, I should've known when she shrugged her shoulders and started with "I don't know." We got a variety of rolls and sushi, and none would have passed for gas station sushi. Tough salmon, old tuna, nothing was working for them. Not sure how this place has 4 stars when there are so many other spots in Columbus that offer better, fresh sushi. read more

Stopped by for lunch today to try the sushi and I was impressed! I eat sushi a lot. Like sometimes once a week a lot and have been searching for a sushi place that compares to a favorite place in Cincinnati. This might be the place! I only had two rolls for lunch, I was keeping it light, but the rolls were really really good and big! My philly roll had two chunks of salmon per piece and the sweet potato roll was packed with four pieces of sweet potato. The salmon was very tender and not chewy. It also seemed like there were a TON of special rolls to choose from. I will definitely be heading back during their happy hour to try a few of them. read more

The sushi here is soooooo good!! HOWEVER...they have the worst concept of time! There have been SEVERAL times where I have placed a takeout order and they say 20 minutes and I get there and wait for and additional 40-50 minutes. It's ridiculous! Every six months, we get together with a bunch of friends from Pittsburgh, Cincy, Cleveland and Dayton and have a lovely sushi meal and catch up. The last couple years have been here at Ronin. That will NEVER happen again. Reservation for eight people. Show up and they haven't even moved two tables together to accommodate an 8-top. It was a half hour before they asked if we wanted water. Twenty more minutes before they took our order. ANOTHER hour we were completely ignored before they offered to even refill our waters. Eventually, more than two hours after we were seated they arrived with our food. OUR SUSHI!!! SUSHI DOES NOT TAKE TWO GODDAMNED HOURS TO PREPARE!!! To top it off, the only ACTUAL "entree" of the table, some simple General Tso, wasn't ready yet either. They were not packed, no more than any cold February night. We watched multiple tables that were seated after us get served, pay and leave before we even had food. Multiple GrubHub drivers came and went. One guy twice. We were offered no apologises, no discounts, and no explanations, even when we were expressing our displeasure. One diner actually had to leave before her sushi ever made it to the table because the staff were making her late for work. And as we explained that, again no apologises and no effort to make it right by us. Which is a total heartbreak, because we loved this place in the past, but the absolute lack of interest by the staff in taking care of ANYTHING from glasses of water to owning up to their shortcomings tonight have insured none of us will ever be back. I have never written a bad online review, and after decades in the service industry you'll find no-one not patient and understanding to issues with bars and restaurants, but this was just unforgivable read more

What is going on with this place?! I came in for a quick lunch by myself, sat at at bar. The waitress came over immediately and asked if I was ready to order... No, I just sat down. My coat was still on... I ordered quickly, since the waitress stood staring at me while I looked over the menu. Another employee sat down 2 seats away from me to eat... Watching loud videos on his phone, slurping food and burping... Gross. When my food came, my roll was warm ( salmon and avocado roll... Not tempura or anything cooked...) and the soy sauce was obviously watered down. Terrible experience. I won't be back. read more

Sushi was ok. None of the roles had an actual sashimi on the top. Just a mush of fish. Roles are rather lazily prepared. Much more rice than typical. Flavor was decent, but the sauces seem to be your basic spicy/eel sauces. Not sure how they got such a high rating. I can make sushi like this at home. If you are looking for decent sushi, come here. If you want top notch, probably go elsewhere. Also, they had the doors open so there were a lot of flies buzzing around and smoke from people smoking outside. Ronin offers some of the most appealing specialty rolls in the area. I think its rolls are most comparable to SushiKo off 23. The atmosphere is cozy and the complimentary edamame is a nice touch. The prices are a little higher than other places and the service is sometimes very slow. It doesn't seem they have enough waitresses at times. We often have to wait a while for our check (and again for our cards to be processed). One visit was so bad we kept having to track down our waitress. I've been to most of the sushi restaurants in Columbus and Ronin is definitely one of the best. The sushi tastes the freshest out of anywhere else I've been and the selection of unique special rolls is far beyond what anyone else has to offer. It is 10x better and much cheaper than Sushi Rock or any of the boutique sushi places and they give you free edamame with your meal, whereas Sushi Rock will charge you $7 for the same thing. Wonderful sushi! This was my second time here and I was very satisfied with both the food and service. The servers are polite and attentive without being pushy or overly chatty. I went during happy hour and took advantage of $2 off sake and buy one roll get 2nd half off. The Funky roll and sushi sandwich are highly recommended. I have been here a couple of times. The sushi rolls are alright. I did not feel like their fish was fresh. Some of the veggie rolls I ordered also smelled kind of fishy. My wife and I stumbled upon Ronin expecting it to be just like the other small so-so sushi places. To our GREAT surprise the food was Fantastic!. It was by far the best sushi we have had locally and rates very high on my list. The food was fresh, the portions generous and the prices were excellent. Even though I had placed an order for pickup, they still took the time to explain the other items on their menu. We have plans to go back again and again trying everything. My wife and I got a Groupon here so we decided to try it. We're always looking at new Japanese restaurants to try. First off we got the complimentary edamame which I thought was nice. It was too dry tough. Then we ordered the garlic chicken, and two rolls. The garlic chicken was ok, nothing special. The rolls though just weren't good. Everything was just bland and lacking flavor. It just felt like we were eating old fish. I recommend people instead go to Akai Hana or Ajisai (great sushi deals on Tuesday). Those places won't disappoint with flavor. read more
