    2 piece filet catfish
    Myesha M.

I had been sitting at the hair salon across the street from this location for a couple of hours and knew I'd be stuck in traffic trying to go home , so i needed something that I could snack on while i drove home. The area that this location is in is very sketchy, so you'll see a lot of people and things that'll make you not want to even get out the car , however I could smell the catfish while I sat under the dryer at the hair salon. Parking lot could use some attention, and walking into this restaurant you're hit with an unpleasant smell. A mixture of raw fish and moisture (if that makes any sense at all). It's a cash only establishment, which I wasn't too happy about because who actually keeps cash on them anymore? But by the grace of God I came across a few dollars in my purse. I ordered the 2 piece fillet catfish with fries. Total was a little less then $8. You're asked to wait outside which I understand and respect. My order took about 15 to mins to complete. They were all out of tartar sauce, that kind of hurt my feelings. But they did give hot sauce, ketchup, pickles and peppers. Both the hot sauce and peppers paired well with the fish . My fries had no seasoning on them at all , However my fish was seasoned/ flavored PERFECTLY. It was crunchy in all the right places and for them to kind of be on the thin side they were pretty meaty. Best catfish I've had since living in Dallas ! I can't believe I'm just now experiencing this place. I am hooked. I'm in the area every few weeks to get my Locs re-twisted, I plan to get me some fish each and every time moving forward.

Let's talk about it. Mildy seasoned, fresh white fish. Definitely a must try and the customer service is ABOVE AVERAGE, I didn't get his name but he has locs and a warm, friendly personality. He cracked a few jokes with us. Worth the drive from the other side of town to taste the SOUL and love in the cooking. I should have gotten them tails. I will come back anytime I'm in South Dallas.

This place normally on point. Today was terrible no seasoning, not fresh, fries hard. Well I guess I gotta start back driving to Redbird Lane.

Thank you guys for coming through with the fried fish for my fiancées birthday party. Not only was it piping hot, fresh and delicious...it was professionally packed and ready in time just as the said....40 catfish fillets with all the fixings and sides in 20 minute!!

    $10 disappointment

I don't get the high reviews for this place at all. There are better fish baskets and the service here leaves much to be desired. I'd love to chalk this up to Covid19 restrictions but that is not the case. And why they be lying tho, they don't have homemade tartar sauce and they stingy with the packets. Even I ordered extra and was charged for it. (Cash only) The seasoning on the fish is pretty good but they catfish basket was lackluster.

Fuck yeah- this place delivers every time! I love it- you're missing out if you haven't tried Ronnie's!

10 strip catfish BUT they gave me only 8

I will be going back to visit them again. The staff is friendly and the fish is good. I knew it would be good because of the location! All small kitchens located near the 'hood' of cities have the best tasting food. The neighborhood isn't really that bad. The catfish is good but I plan to also try other things on the menu. But I will tell them that they gave me only 8 strips instead of 10. Yes I counted them ‍

The fish was fried perfectly, seasoned perfectly...the fries yummy. Great meal. Call in orders are accepted, but I walked in and order, the wait was the usual for fish orders: Oh...and that little container you'll find with your meal, is hot sauce! I will definitely be going back. Great price, cash only.

After a long day in transit, all we wanted was something deeply satisfying, the kind of meal that feels like a reward. When my mother suggested Aunt Irene's Kitchen, there was no hesitation. She spoke of it with the reverence reserved for places that become part of your personal geography former neighborhood staples, the kind you measure other meals against. Years ago, when she lived nearby, this was her spot. And now, standing beside her in a line that stretched out the door, it was clear we weren't the only ones holding onto that sentiment. The queue moved with surprising ease, a quiet efficiency that felt almost practiced. Inside, the energy was unpretentious and steady. Our cashier, while not particularly warm, was brisk and knowledgeable answering questions with the kind of clarity that suggests confidence in the product more than performance. We ordered simply: wings with fries, and two plates of fried fish with fries. The wings hadn't been part of the original plan, but a fellow patron mid-meal and visibly excited leaned over to insist. It felt like advice worth taking. And it was. The food arrived in its own time this is not a place for the impatient but what it lacked in speed, it more than made up for in flavor. The fish was crisp and tender, the wings richly seasoned, each bite layered with the kind of depth that doesn't rush itself. Then there was the jalapeño tucked alongside the plate like a quiet signature. It cut through the richness with a bright, deliberate heat, a small but memorable detail that elevated the entire experience. The dining room itself is modest and well-kept, with many opting to take their meals to-go or retreat to their cars. There's an ease to it all ample parking, friendly faces coming and going, a sense of community that lingers longer than the wait. Because that's the thing about places like this: they don't just feed you, they remind you why the wait was worth it.

With several months under their belt in this location I was very disappointed in what I received. Lamb meatballs were fine as well as the Lobster Bisque which most people get, along with the salads we tried and the French onion soup but beyond that, the main courses were woefully underwhelming. Steaks were fine and cooked to temperature but that's it. No seasoning, nothing special, just slapped down in front of you like it came off the grill in the backyard. With prices at the top of Dallas area steakhouses per ounce of meat, I would rather be at one of the other well known spots around town. The lobster tail was absolutely awful. I guess at $60 for a 10oz tail I should have known it was too good to be true. I mean when a 10oz tail is less than their 8oz filet, I really should have passed. The tail was basically not edible. The skin of the tail stuck to the meat making it like chewing wax paper. I was able to cut that part off and eat what was left. Other people had NY strip which was good and the sea bass which was better than the lobster tail. Overall it's a nice quiet romantic place to try out but I'd stick to drinks at the bar and some appetizers. Just my opinion and maybe it was an off night.

Often times after it's all said & done, you wonder - was that worth it? Thankfully, that is NOT the experience I had at Haywire! I ate here on August 9th, 2025 and enjoyed everything about it. I was with a large party but would love to return for a more intimate experience. On this Saturday, my younger cousin was graduating from Parker University so I was in town for the weekend. At around 1pm, I was one of the first to arrive at the restaurant. Unfortunately the parking is a bit confusing. There was construction being done on the same street when I went but there's a parking garage for customers that's difficult to navigate AND the elevator that connects wasn't operating at the time which was an issue for many (but not me, I got a good spot & walked). My party hadn't all arrived yet so I took a gander. Upon entering the tall doors, the space breathes southwestern elegance: wooden structure, leather seating, separate dining areas with highlighted ranch-style art. The abundance of space gives it an open-concept feel. The lighting fixtures are modern, the space was dim but not too low, with an option to utilize the large windows also. I was quiet impressed at the overall presentation. When my party did arrive, I wanted to keep it simple so I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad and a Hibiscus Haze with Vodka. The table shmoozed as we ate some of the appetizers: the Crab Dip & Green Tomatoes, both amazing. The food did take some time but, considering it was 10-12 of us, that's expected. The Hibiscus Haze was splendid: smooth & flavorful, a great concoction. Cobb salads are usually pretty thick but this one was HEARTY. It came in a large bowl stuffed with the all the toppings. The dressing it was tossed with was well balanced but could've used a tad bit more. With some pepper & a little ranch, I was set! I defeated the salad but it also left me stuffed to the gills. Satisfying meal that I would order again! There are tons of restaurants to dine at in Dallas & sometimes you never know which is worth your time. Despite the inconvenience of parking, I'd bet my bottom dollar that this is a good place to eat. Whether you want a fine dining experience, it's a special occasion or just want a good drink with a meal, Haywire has enough to satisfy all interests.

Knowledgeable about the menu & great recommendations. Kev was a joy to have as our server. The food is amazing & love the ambiance of the restaurant. We were asked to wait. Waited maybe 5-10mins. No biggie, A lot of open tables were available for immediate sit down. Again that wasn't a big deal. I had asked for a booth & wanted to sit in front room. The hostess said no a problem. She handed us off to a younger hostess and she took us to a table. I told her I had requested a booth. In the front room only 3 tables were occupied. I pointed out the booth and she said that's for party of 6. However, we could have the 1/2 table/booth. Made absolutely no sense because that was for a party of 6 as well. I made this comment & she just stared at me without saying a word. I didn't want to seem difficult and took the table as she just walked away. Kev was confused as we were. No good communication skills. It was an awkward encounter. The restaurant wasn't busy at all & never was whole time there. Kev wasn't sure why she didn't move us a requested & was puzzled himself. However i apologized to him & explained I wasn't trying to be difficult, but prefer booth sitting and most times we will wait for one. We left at 1:45p and restaurant was no busier than when we arrived. Reservation/Booth or not! I guess saying all of this, your front staff need to have more people skills when dealing with your customers. They are the face and first point of contact. Again Kev was amazing & food was outstanding!

As big fans of Misti Norris and Petra, we first heard about Rainbow Cat when it was still a temporary popup at the bar. Having now tried her newer creations at Saint Valentine, we can safely say we'll definitely be back in the future for the drinks and vibe as well. Service was great throughout, with Paul and several other bartenders and servers casually conversing with and taking care of us the whole time we were there. It was super fun getting a glimpse of how the bar and kitchen work and also how enthusiastic everyone else also is about Misti's food. My husband and I started with a couple drinks that hit the spot: my Bryan St. Swizzle was colorful and refreshing, and my husband's Cheri Cheri Lady was smoky and smooth. We split three food items that most intrigued us, and they were all delicious. Our favorite was the Unicorn Dog, which came with a flavorful sausage with a delightful snap atop a bed of the best crispy rice we've had in a while. Spam Musubi was definitely also an elevated version of the classic, and the potato noods were basically a baked potato in noodle soup form, which I loved. We were recommended the Sour Patch to go with the Unicorn Dog but honestly the pickles weren't super necessary IMO; the dish was already wonderfully balanced with the mustard and onions. We ended the night with the cinnamon toast crunch dessert which was a lovely cap to the meal. The whipped milk was super unique, though my husband did say he would've preferred a slightly sweeter semifreddo, which would also mimic the temperature of cereal milk better. Something to consider for a future dessert maybe! We'll find ourselves downtown a little more now that the fall sports season is getting under way, so I can't wait to come back when we're in the area and try other things on the menu!
