This place is a joke. Inconsistent hours, it's like they want to stay open until they feel like they're ready to go home. The hours on the door says til 10 pm, then one day they say it's only until 8, I get there one night at 7:20 and before I can go in I was met and said they were already closed. Really? I had been sitting at the hair salon across the street from this location for a couple of hours and knew I'd be stuck in traffic trying to go home , so i needed something that I could snack on while i drove home. The area that this location is in is very sketchy, so you'll see a lot of people and things that'll make you not want to even get out the car , however I could smell the catfish while I sat under the dryer at the hair salon. Parking lot could use some attention, and walking into this restaurant you're hit with an unpleasant smell. A mixture of raw fish and moisture (if that makes any sense at all). It's a cash only establishment, which I wasn't too happy about because who actually keeps cash on them anymore? But by the grace of God I came across a few dollars in my purse. I ordered the 2 piece fillet catfish with fries. Total was a little less then $8. You're asked to wait outside which I understand and respect. My order took about 15 to mins to complete. They were all out of tartar sauce, that kind of hurt my feelings. But they did give hot sauce, ketchup, pickles and peppers. Both the hot sauce and peppers paired well with the fish . My fries had no seasoning on them at all , However my fish was seasoned/ flavored PERFECTLY. It was crunchy in all the right places and for them to kind of be on the thin side they were pretty meaty. Best catfish I've had since living in Dallas ! I can't believe I'm just now experiencing this place. I am hooked. So now you know the neighborhood.... 1st let me say, bring CASH - no cards accepted. ALSO, no dining in - no seating. Call in order, pick up, or order at the counter & take out. Middle of the afternoon there was no waiting. I mentioned having never been there before & a customer picking up delivery order suggested the Catfish nuggets, no bones, basket. Everything comes with French fries , bread , pickles & jalapeño pepper. I ordered the nuggets plus the Catfish, bone-in, 4 piece. Which by the way, they go up to 21+ pieces. There is no standing at the counter after you place your order. You get a pager that blinks & flashes when your order is ready. Sat in my car listening to some music, checking email, and in no time my order was ready! Jessica was really polite and patient while I placed my order. Friendly smile. The cook, who requested I not mention his name in the review, did a great job. Food was so hot, the box was a little wavy . I snacked a little bit driving home. I am giving this a 4-star. The food and service was a 5 for ordering & takeout. However, there was something (?) spilled on the floor that was so sticky all across the room. Let's talk about it. Mildy seasoned, fresh white fish. Definitely a must try and the customer service is ABOVE AVERAGE, I didn't get his name but he has locs and a warm, friendly personality. He cracked a few jokes with us. Worth the drive from the other side of town to taste the SOUL and love in the cooking. I should have gotten them tails. They're fillets are actually more like a strip. I have tried all of their locations. I like the way my food tastes but you definitely are not getting your money's worth. I don't get the high reviews for this place at all. There are better fish baskets and the service here leaves much to be desired. I'd love to chalk this up to Covid19 restrictions but that is not the case. And why they be lying tho, they don't have homemade tartar sauce and they stingy with the packets. I went to the location on Second for about the fourth time. Each time I have visited this location my food has been great!!!!! Never refried or old. The food is always hot and cooked AFTER I have ordered. That's the way it should be; never sitting around getting cold. The fries are not soggy but crispy and delicious. My only complaint is packaged tarter sauce!!!!!!!! My daughter refuse to eat fish without homemade tarter sauce not that packaged mayonnaise. Went to Ronnies today.....it was an good experience except that the worker taking my order told me I had to have my mask on when ordering. I had my mask on, but pulled it down slightly while placing my order so she could hear me better. I said no problem pulled my mask up and finished ordering. The worker who told me this didnt have a mask on AT ALL. I didnt think of it until I got home because my mind was somewhere else. There are signs posted on the outside "no mask no service" and only 2 ppl in at a time. It would seem the staff would follow their own rules to ensure health and safety. Ronnie's is the BEST fried catfish in DFW (period). There are no frills and nothing special about the cafe. There's a sit down counter but I've never eaten in and I don't think many people do. So the next time I was close I tried it, I got the catfish nuggets. It was a ton of food for the price and came with hot sauce for dipping.
