I checked this place out with a couple friends the other evening. We went on a Thursday so it wasn't very busy but it wasn't empty either. The waiter we had was very nice and had great personality. He was attentive and took great care of us. We ordered cheese fries, brisket nachos, and one of the sandwiches. We all liked what we had. The drinks were strong but they were good! They have a huge variety of beers and whiskey if either of those are your thing but they still make more traditional drinks like margaritas. They share a kitchen with the place next door so they provided us with two menus which was great. I would definitely go back and recommend the place. What a weird experience. Walked in and it was smoky (I am black, african american, of color, ethnic or whatever political word..) so I just straightened my hair and was not excited to have cigar smell all up in it but whatevs... issa bar. Can't be too mad. But the bartender Planet was rude. Unhelpful.. and seemed like she was not wanting to be there. I love whiskey so I was excited to try new things for $5. Great place! Cozy, nice decor. Very clean bathroom. Lighting was good. We sat right by the door that passes through to the Hub, which is the adjoining bar, so it was loud coming from there. But your smoker friends can cut right through to the Hub for a smoke then come right back in. Extensive beer menu. Good music from the digital jukebox. Food selection looked okay, they make eats next door at the Hub. My friend got a sampler: wings, mozzarella sticks, quesadillas, onion rings. Great late night snacking. Great beer/whiskey bar in Addison. They have a great Whiskey special on Wednesday's - a whole ton of whiskeys for $5 all day long. Planet, the lady bar tender that helped us, had some good advice for us on new ones to try. The strip mall is not particularly inviting, but it's nice once you're inside. When I walked in I was impressed by the service and selection, and enjoyed the tacos and fries. The beer recommendations were great and I'll come back again and again! Our crew was in Dallas on an extended (exhausting) project, and having no idea where a good selection of single malts and craft beer was located outside the city center, we blindly chose Ron's from a brief google journey of "whiskey and Dallas." Ron's was nearby and was a great surprise. The craft beer junkies were gaga over the incredible list of local and exotic drafts and bottles, near catatonic in beer nirvana. Myself, I was pleasantly surprised in a fine representation of single malts, three of which were my Islay favorites that are nearly impossible to find in even finer dining establishments. Jason, a new arrival behind the bar, was very knowledgeable on his offerings as far as I could tell by the grilling he took from the fanatics. Didn't try the menu beyond appetizers, but by the beverage experience alone, well done! read more

Super chill bar with a great craft beer and whiskey selection. It's a nondescript bar tucked away in a strip mall, but it looks a helluva lot better on the inside. It's not super rowdy, but it's lively enough to get together with your pals and have a good time. Bartenders are pretty nice and know their stuff, so if you're looking to jump into some new beer or whiskey, they got your back. Would be 5 stars but when the waitress took literally an hour to come back and check on the table and the bartender gives you pushback when you try to order a drink at the bar because you're tired of waiting on the server it hurts the experience. Recently, Dos Equis proved The Most Interesting Man in the World was out of this world when they sent him packing on a one-way intergalactic trip. At the time of this writing, I'm not sure who they are getting to replace that guy, but I'm willing to nominate the Ron of Ron's Place. I have no idea if the titular Ron exists, but if he does, I want to shake his hand and thank him for providing a breath of fresh air in the Addison area that will be joining my regular rotation of places to visit when I want a drink or 12. When it comes to drinking at a bar in Addison, I usually have to mentally prepare myself for inevitable insanity, and not the fun kind of insanity. It's the kind that is made up of loud, crowded places with even louder patrons and a drink menu that is insultingly basic for anyone with even the beginner's level of discerning tastes. Ron's Place completely bucks that formula and opts for an atmosphere of easygoingness backed by a drink book bursting at the seams with diversity, overseen by a staff that is committed to making sure every patron leaves with their expectations exceeded. A friend told me we needed to pay Ron's Place a visit, so we made plans to do just that this last Saturday evening. Right away, before you even walk in, Ron's Place gets points, especially if you're used to a midwestern, local pub atmosphere. You could walk in through the front door under the Ron's Place awning... or you could park behind the building and go in through the back door. Yes, in back of the strip mall where Ron's Place is rests a single door flanked by two lights and under a simple awning. Just like your favorite Chicago pub, you can duck in multiple entrances, which is kind of refreshing to find in the DFW region. So now that we've gone over the outside of the building, what about the inside? It's a long corridor of a room, with the comprehensive bar taking up the first half of the left wall, and banquette seats taking up the right wall before higher table tops and single occupant bathrooms round out the back half of the place. A digital jukebox sits all the way at the back, and whoever was there when we were gets all the points in the world for pumping out Johnny Cash, The B-52s and Devo. Speaking of points, let's talk service. Our server, Maci, also doubled as the bartender, and I'm pretty sure she might actually be Wonder Woman in disguise. At one point, I think she was waiting on about nine different parties and she never missed a single beat. She kept her guests happy and she knew the menu with an encyclopedic knowledge that we inadvertently tested - the first beer my friend asked for had run out, and she knew that without needing to go back and check the inventory. Basically, she ensured the pace was even for everyone and was delightful for a couple of first-timers to sit with on this maiden visit. The food menu looks to be pub grub. Think sandwiches and appetizers. We had just polished off dinner, but made room for a chef's choice cheese plate. The chef made some pretty good selections, though if this does change regularly, I would definitely order it again to see what else they've got back there in the kitchen. Same with the beers. The beer menu is, simply put, the most esoteric beer menu in Addison. For some of us who panic when Corona is not available to drink, this is a problem. For the rest of us who have not sacrificed our taste buds, this is a godsend. My friend and I have (unfortunately?) amassed a diverse knowledge of beers, but the majority of those on offer here were strange and wondrous. Sriracha-flavored stouts can happily coexist pages away from cherry-tinted Belgian ales at Ron's Place, and we loved discovering something new on every page. Other random tidbits: it looks like there is another bar connected to Ron's Place, one that operates more in a traditional bar environment, with pool tables, plush booths and dark walls. And that's actually the one (very) minor complaint I could lob at Ron's Place: it might be too brightly lit. Ron's Place feels like a pub but is lit like a family restaurant. And sure, there were a handful of kids at a table in the back part of the place, but they were the exception to the other patrons. Really, though, when the lighting is my only gripe, perhaps I need to wear my sunglasses at night so I can, so I can see the light that's right before my eyes. The bottom line is Ron's Place has vaulted into my top five favorite destinations in the Addison area. The dining room is adorned with vintage beer cans, the selection of drinks is unrivaled, the service is outstanding and the prices are reasonable. For those diners and drinkers looking for a drama-free experience in the Addison region, Ron's Place delivers on every conceivable level. read more

I had never heard of Ron's Place, even though I work nearby; but with a Groupon I tried Ron's Place on May 6, 2021. Dining alone, the meal was good, my Groupon covered the entire meal, and I tipped the server very well. With Groupons, I went to Ron's Place five more times in 2021 (July 7, Sept. 25, Oct. 15, Oct. 29, and Dec. 20), and each time I dined alone, had excellent servers (all females), and paid the bills in cash, and tipped very well. On January 25, 2022, I dined alone with a Groupon, but this time, a male server would not accept my Groupon. Obviously, the almost $30 bill was much higher than expected, so, I left only a small tip. This was the last time I will ever go to Ron's Place; i'm very Dissatisfied. read more

While I was in the Addison area I decided to drop by Ron's Place, the bar which opened up right next The Hub in Addison. The first thing you'll notice is the paint fumes have gone, which were pretty strong if you visited The Hub while they were putting Ron's together. It's brand new, squeaky clean and all polished. As you walk in the bar is along the left side, tables to the right and at the back. There's a few TVs behind the bar which is adorned by the many whiskys, scotches and bourbons. There's also a fantastic collection of beer cans which the owner has amassed. Unfortunately they're not all available for drinking. That said, there was a nice selection of tap beers, the regular suspects and a few unusual ones that are worth a try. There's also plenty to try that aren't on tap. The food menu has a few things on that I would like to try but I wasn't hungry the evening I was there. I will definitely be back to judge the fish and chips! Finally, the staff, those both working and not (Paul and Stephanie), were friendly and were happy to offer advice on what's good to imbibe. Wow- we were so anxious to try Ron's, but what a huge disappointment! It was not even the lunch rush. We got there at 1 and waited over 10 minutes for a waitress..that never showed up, so my husband walked to the register where she was standing and asked for the menus. He came back a she never came over to take our order, so he went back up and said we would like 2 Chicken sandwiches and 2 diet cokes. She said she would bring the cokes right over...she didn't until about 5 minutes before our food came out- THE FOOD:( I have never eaten Tough Chicken before-wow, I cut the sandwich in 1/2 and didn't touch the other 1/2 of the chicken...it was AWFUL. My husband NEVER complains and he even said-it was the worst ever. No bill came so he had to walk back up to the register when he saw her there and (Thank God we had a Groupon) paid her. Husband liked his drink, but the place reeked of smoke, even though no one was smoking. Turns out they appear to share a kitchen w/The Hub next door & it was filled with smokers. Really hard to enjoy our meal. As to the meal, it is heavy pub grub. Didn't even have the sweet potato fries pictured on the Groupon. And the Deviled Egg appetizers were just weird. The filling seemed smaller than white portion, which tasted frozen when we bit into it. Sent it back and subsequently told that the Chef tried them & agreed they didn't taste good.
