Terrible experience. This is 8 months after purchase. I bought this couch because it was 'pet friendly'. I contacted R&B twice and they told me to forward them images, which I did. The first person responding said that the pills weren't from the couch because it was a different color (so what.. I should sit on your couches naked?) and to use a cleaning spray. I followed up multiple times and she didn't reply. I tried calling again and was told all that 'pet friendly' meant was that 'it has a tighter weave and doesn't pick up fur as easily (???) tell me, is this what YOU expect when you read pet friendly? The associate who got the commission told us that she had a pet and cleaned soy sauce out of the same couch when I asked if it was pet friendly - clearly implying that it was stain resistant, not just 'fur resistant.' I again got asked to submit photos, which I did, and again got no reply. I went with Room & Board because I thought it was a reputable brand that I could rely on for excellent customer service and quality. Neither have been true. Wow! All I can say is I was impressed. The store was amazingly clean, easy to navigate, not cluttered, and everyone was friendly. They offer coffee and tea service with Biscotti's and Laura Doone cookies. They even pre-package little coloring books for kids and offer fresh water and dog treats. For those puppies that couldn't make it out, they have prepackaged dog treats in a cute little pouch with a cute little keychain!!! Sooo thoughtful. Definitely covered all the bases there! We came this way to specifically shop at this store. My friend was looking for a new bed and mattress. I just tagged along. I've received their catalogs in the mail, but had no idea that they had brick and mortar stores. We must've spent at least an hour inside looking at all of their displays and meeting really nice customers. It's easy to make a day of shopping at this particular location because there are at least five other furniture and home stores plus a really good Gastropub next-door. My wife and I stopped by earlier, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. Lyle was very helpful and took the time to assist us. He answered my wife's questions about the fabrics and showed us the different options available, including what's in stock if we choose to order. We had already done our research, so I wasn't surprised to learn that some customized pieces could take up to two months. The photos really don't do the place justice. You have to see it in person. Excellent! Even though there were lots of customers on a Saturday, we never felt ignored. We were greeted warmly as soon as we entered, and offered refreshments. We had our questions answered when we entered, and as we toured the store, that sales person as well as others would come by and ask if we had more questions. Family-friendly! Loved that Room & Board offered a fully-stocked snack cart by the entrance for guests interested in a cup of hot coffee or tea or some packaged cookies. They also had some pre-made activity bags with coloring kits to preoccupy the kids while parents are perusing! The thoughtfulness really impressed me! I also appreciated that the staff here let you explore on your own without watching your every move. Room & Board seemed to have an endless amount of model rooms and layouts to explore. We easily could have spent over an hour here gathering inspo and admiring the various textures, textiles, and colors. I think on of the easiest places to shop for furniture. Good construction at fair prices. Ample fabric selections. Always staff around to help with pricing and selection. Vast space in Culver give many options to choose from... the outdoor furniture is my preference. Quick construction and delivery, while glove service makes set up easy. The downside is there is no size customization. Modular units have many components - but in fixed sizes. Mid-scale in terms of options and pricing - not B&B Italia or Roche... but 1/4 - 1/2 the price. Parking is easy. Free coffee and snacks near the entry and ample restaurants in the area. read more

My couch burned in 80 degree weather to the point that holes appeared in the fabric and continue to expand and Room and Board refuse to rectify the situation despite it being a fire hazard. They basically claimed it was due to reflection from our windows causing "wear and tear". In what world does outdoor furniture not have windows nearby. I had $200 couches from ace hardware for years that never had any issues. This is a $6000 couch. Save yourself the headache and buy from another company. read more

Couple steps later there's a lovely gentleman that escort you to the hemp hand sanitizer and a jar full of masks if you need advise you to please stay 6 feet apart . We shopped around the Helms area to look for a couch and other furnitures and I have to say Room and Board was by far the best in terms of service and showroom layout, which is why we ended up buying our couch here. Upon arriving we were immediately greeted and the reception checked on us a couple times to make sure we are good, very thoughtful and attentive, offered us water. We were then helped by Patrick to make our order; I must say I am blown away by his professionalism. He was thoroughly knowledgeable on any questions we had, patient, and super efficient. He was keen to show us everything we needed to make an informed decision and offered us fabric swatches to take home for decor planning. His professionalism and efficiency was really top notch. We just had such a great experience and couldn't be happier!! We would definitely be coming back for more and recommending this store. I needed to furnish my 84 year old mother's assisted living apartment, so I made an appointment online saying what it was for and I sent a floor plan. When I arrived, Tessa had a 3D rendering of the apartment. She showed us furniture that's easy for older people to get in and out of and then we looked at it in the 3D rendering to see how we liked it. Mom loves it! My experience with the folks at Room and Board, whether by phone or in person, has always been pleasant and useful. Although they don't have regular sales, I feel that their items are fairly priced for the quality. This has been after looking at Design Within Reach and Crate and Barrel. If you're interested in furnishing or updating a room in your home , they're worth a look. They provide fabric and leather samples to take home, as well as by mail if requested online. I noticed that all of the furniture that I was interested in is made in the USA, which is an added plus. This Culver City location is larger than the Costa Mesa store. read more

I actually can't believe the unbelievable A+++ customer service experience I've received by Room and Board. This situation is literally unheard of in any industry. I love the aesthetic and quality of Room and Board furniture. I fell in love with this aesthetic when I was leasing a furnished condo while in med school in Chicago and I promised myself that when I could afford it, I'd buy Room and Board pieces for my home. Medical school worked out well for me and I can say that I've furnished my entire home, backyard and 2 medical offices in Room and Board furniture. After a few years, the pieces in the backyard looked pretty bad. The light sunbrella color stained, there were problems with warping and the seams were splitting. I let the customer service rep know, but I didn't get very far (even with pictures) until I called the store in Culver City and had a wonderful design rep I've worked with in the past get the main GM involved. Eric, a fantastic white glove delivery driver did a thorough inspection of the furniture and wrote up a report. I requested what I thought was fair and offered to pay any difference. I just received an email from the manager that brought tears to my eyes. My concerns were taken seriously and my outdoor furniture is all being replaced. 10 stars read more

I have always viewed their catalogue and wanted to see their stocks in real life. I like the simple and modern style with neutral tones of this store. The design is simple so it matches easily with every household. The size of furnitures here is a little bit small for houses, it matches more with townhouses, apartments, or condos. The people in the store are very helpful. The delivery was delayed probably due to COVID. The dresser I ordered which was pricey and had small nicks and scratches so they offer to send a repair person. He just arrived and is in the process of repair. Beware to repair they use toxic materials which is not great in the bedroom. Also when I asked the repair man questions instead of simply answering my questions he asked if I wanted him to make the repairs which was uncalled for since he was in the middle of the repair and I had demonstrated that I was prepared by covering my bed to avoid any toxins on my pillows. This was uncalled for and demonstrated poor customer service. How dare he challenge me in my home. Very disappointed. Will not purchase from this company again. read more

I've been to Room & Board several times over the years. I think I first went with friends who were looking for a couch, and it ended up being a sort of default in my head for handsome grown-up furniture. I wasn't wrong. It's one of the more salient big brands in retail furniture, comparable to Crate & Barrel or Restoration Hardware--definitely a good place to visit if you're looking to decorate. The furniture is of solid quality, with sensible, modern design. The aesthetic is generally about 10% too Mad Men for our 100-year-old house, but I like the individual pieces, as well as the refreshing absence of gaudy nonsense. The risk, I guess, is that you get the same couch as all your yuppie friends, but there are worse crimes in home decor than being tastefully normal. The Culver City showroom is large and attractive, with IKEA-style display rooms flowing into each other in one open floor space. When Matt B. and I started decorating our house, this was one of our first stops--with H.D. Buttercup next door, it helped give us a kind of lay of the land. It's an easy store to navigate, and I've found the salespeople helpful and forthcoming, offering assistance when needed. We've gotten a couple quotes printed, for a dresser and media cabinet we liked but weren't quite ready to pull the trigger on. We sat on the quotes for so long that we couldn't even find them when we decided to order the Moro media cabinet last month (I even called so the sales lady who helped us would get credit for it, but they apparently clear out their quotes after a while; I guess they don't make commission, though). I was able to make this purchase over the phone, and the woman helping me was super pleasant. The cabinet was in stock, so I was able to set up delivery for the following week. It came as scheduled. I looked over it for damage when it arrived, but not super closely, as I didn't want to keep the delivery guys waiting. They said I could call if I found any problems. Matt found one almost as soon as he saw it--nothing major, but a nick on one of the door slats, probably in the stain. It looked like it was liable to peel and become pretty noticeable, and in any case, we figured we were entitled to a damage-free piece, as Room & Board charges real furniture prices. Thankfully, they agreed, and we got a replacement delivered within a couple weeks. Our media cabinet is lovely, and I've been happy with Room & Board's customer service. Furniture shopping is a huge pain in the ass, and the one hiccup aside, this process was about as easy as it could've been. If you're looking to buy some nice furniture, Room & Board is a great place to start. It's worth visiting in person, even just for an introductory browse. read more

A month later I emailed to make and appt., which I had to cancel so I sent him my specs. to work remotely. I've been wanting the Oasis collection for the backyard and it was a bit complicated for me b/c were doing other work and I just couldn't wrap my head around all the options for the corner we were looking at. In any event Patrick hand drew the pieces I needed, and it's perfect! We went to see a large swatch to confirm our fabric choice and Patrick was off, the other salesperson was nice but not quite as helpful (they don't work on commission which is a perk, and not a perk). Full disclosure - Room & Board's contemporary styles are not my thing. That being said, their showroom in Helms Bakery District's complex is a stunning space. I enjoyed strolling their various room settings, seeing the juxtaposition between the historic building that houses the modern furniture. Their items are not cheap by any means. Many items might remind one of Ikea, but without needing to assemble them. High end Ikea? Is that a contradiction? My mother loved Danish modern design in the 60's and beyond. She would have loved this place. Thus some nostalgia going in as we meandered around. Some amazing lighting options were on display. After buying a house, my husband and I can now graduate from buying ephemeral furniture (aka ikea) and upgrade to higher quality furniture that will hopefully last for years. I'm in awe my parents still use the furniture they purchased 30+ years ago and they're still in fantastic condition. Meanwhile, my ikea stuff is falling apart after two years. We decided to shop at Helms Bakery and stumbled upon Room and Board and decided to walk in randomly. I really fell in love with the style. It's modern, but cozy. Maybe more conservative? I thought i loved CB2 and West Elm, but Room and Board is more like a classic modern look and higher quality. When it comes to decorating and spending money, I dwell on my decisions and have to re-validate my purchases. It's great that they have free design services to help pick out the furniture and make sure they match. Stacy helped us and there are no words to describe how amazing he is!! He was suuuper patient (indecisive me!) and thoughtful and gave great suggestions. He wasn't judgemental at all when I asked a lot of dumb design questions, and made sure we loved what we picked and that it matched the aesthetics we were looking for. Tip: when getting design consulting services, be sure to take photos of your space as well as measurements! In the end, we purchased patio furniture, a rug, and two nightstands. Can't wait for the delivery :) we plan on getting a dining table too and a dresser but ouch, my wallet. Hopefully they will be a good investment!! They do a flat rate delivery too, which is eco-friendly. If putting it all on one credit card is too expensive you can call customer support and they'll split it on two credit cards. Oh yeah, Room and Board apparently do not have coupons. That kind of gives you a piece of mind when shopping. It's like shopping at Trader Joe's, no need to worry which apple to get and when to buy them. I have a sectional on my living room and I bought a chair in C&B recently. I went to Room and Board to look for some cushions and a new rug to give some contrast to my furniture. I'm not a woman who likes spending time in shopping for decoration so as soon as I arrived to Room and Board I asked for help. I brought a photo of the sectional and chair to show it to the saleswoman so she could have an idea. She immediately brought some cushions and placed them on a sectional similar to the one I have at home. I didn't need to think twice... I absolutely love them! I paid $500 for 3 cushions. This store is not cheap at all but I really love it. They didn't have a big variety of rugs however the saleswoman (it's a pity I don't remember her name) gave some tips where I could find a good rug. I am totally in love with this store. read more

IF YOU WANT TO OVERPAY FOR FURNITURE THAT DOESN'T LAST, ROOM AND BOARD IS FOR YOU. I made the mistake of buying a few pieces from here. I bought 2 identical sofas and one of them did not live up to expectations. We are 2 adults with no kids and the sofas are in our bonus room. These sofas have been used to a minimum and one of them starting showing signs of wear and tear almost immediately. We contacted Room & Board, had a technician come out and inspect it and immediately starting looking for excuses to say that the dip in the middle of the sofa was caused by normal wear and tear. I was told that sun exposure, sitting in the middle of the sofa, use of the sofa would cause this! WTF! I guess R&B expects you to buy furniture and not use it. Never again Room & Board! Not a chance! If I want crappy, cheap, furniture that looks good, I'll go somewhere else and pay half your prices. read more

I came to replace the fabric for a $450 patio umbrella and the manager told me rudely that it is not possible because she feels that "I got good use out of it" already." She kept behaving rudely to me (as well as other customers) saying things like "aren't we talking about it now?" and basically told me to leave because there's nothing that she wants to do for me. I had another employee help me out as well, but while she was nicer, she worked under the manager, who seemed to make the situation worse. Our family has spent thousands of dollars here and it's incredible that they treat their customers this way. The sales people when you walk in is like a busy car dealership. Sometimes sales reps are helping 2-3 people at a time and if you want a couch that is in one room but you're in another, grab that sales person by the hand and have them walk you. Otherwise you will lose him or her and never see them again and will have to start ALL OVER with a new person. The delivery service of the product they were quick and fast but there is no service involved. I wanted my couch to be two feet more to the right, and they seemed so annoyed that I would dare ask them such a thing. When I was buying the couch, the sales woman said it was white glove service and if I wanted to ask them to vacuum up the dust afterwards, that they would. NO, they want to drop off the product and bolt out of their. I couldn't dare ask them to move the chair for me (with their rolled eyes), so I did it myself. Not that it was terribly heavy but if it is something I'm paying for, might as well ask for their service. Not helpful at all. We bought an Orson couch and chair back in March, and it is too soft. You sit in it for 10-15 minutes and you tilt into that direction. The pillows are too soft and makes an uncomfortable chair, this isn't the chair we saw in the show room! I went into the store and the salesperson said, the way to avoid that is to flip your pillows every week. So we did this and still have the same issue. We went back to the store to complain and another salesperson said to call in to get a repair person to look at the chair. It took a MONTH to get someone to come out to see our product. He was friendly, professional, no issue with him, except all he told me was to FLUFF MY PILLOWS every other day. I do not have time to be fluffing my pillows every other day! Still, we were patient, and we tried this for a few weeks. NOPE same problem, it is still too soft and leaves a dent, you pretty much either have to fluff your pillows or not sit in the couch and why the heck would you pay so much for a product you can not enjoy. The worst part of their company is their customer service. I called in and spoke to a representative and basically spoke in a way that made it seem like their was going to be a fee....maybe...sometimes...once in a while. WHAT IS IT? Give me a direct answer? She couldn't. I want to return the chair, but she says their could possible be a fee, and sometimes their isn't a fee at all. I asked her how much was the fee, she couldn't answer. So now I'm waiting for someone to pick up my couch. If their is a fee, I'm going to be SO pissed. They said that a fee will be based on the condition of the couch. It's freaking new, we'd rather sit on the ground than this lumpy thing. They have terrific products I will give them that, but we were told that they had great service. Have NEVER seen that. They sell the same things at Crate & Barrel and Macy's. Honestly, it would have been cheaper to go to macy's, use a coupon, and not deal with this crappy service. read more

About 8 years ago, we bought an air-sleeper sofa from Room & Board for what seemed like a crazy amount of money. In the years since, it's been slept, sat, and even bounced on by our preschooler countless times, and yet it looks and feels about the same as it did the day it was delivered. A couple of months ago, we noticed the air mattress topper was losing air. I called Room & Board thinking maybe we could buy a replacement. They found our old order in the system within minutes and gave us a new one FOR FREE. I went to pick it up thinking it would just be the air insert, but no - it was an entirely new mattress! I truly dislike shopping for new furniture. Antique or vintage furniture? Well that's something completely different. I'm totally into that. But some furniture is best purchased new. Am I right? Especially your sofa. We really enjoyed furniture shopping at Room & Board. For one thing the displays are not all cramped together. You can get a sense of how the pieces might actually look in your own house or apartment. But the best thing we found at Room & Board were people who know furniture and can answer your questions in an intelligent manner. Usually furniture stores kind of shy away from questions about construction techniques and materials. I was surprised with the candor shown to us when we visited Room & Board. Room and Board is truly the best of the best. We have purchased a lot of our furniture from them, and it is truly sturdy and solid and still looks as good as new, many years and a move or two later. In particular, the sectional sofa we bought from them still really holds its shape over 5 years later, and the fabric on it is super easy to clean, even with a toddler. It was expensive at the time but you get what you pay for and this is a great piece of furniture. Their customer service is top notch and has always helped us out. They just replaced a leaking air mattress in a sofa bed we purchased from them, several years later. OK, first of all, the furniture at Room & Board is similar to that offered at both Crate and Barrel and West Elm in both price and style - not exactly, but in a general sense. The difference is that Room & Board doesn't have sales or coupons for 15% off XYZ. (This may not be true I think they have a sale at the end of each year when they bring in the new collection). After doing some comprehensive furniture shopping, I'd say R&B's prices are on par with other larger (and more corporate) modern furniture brands. Also prices seem much better than DWR. The showroom in Culver City is massive. It's so large that I often get a little turned around, especially since they have this odd middle area that looks like other parts of the store. I would agree with some that the customer service is hit and miss. There's been times that I've been approached immediately, and others where I've wandered around for over 30 minutes without so much as a "are you doing OK?". Employees don't always seem busy either, most are milling about or chatting with each other. As a small private company that prides themselves on customer service, they definitely need to work on this. If you do find a helpful employee - find out their name and latch onto them. I've seen customers asking for specific employees many times for questions and info and this may be why. As far as the products are concerned. They're all well made and well styled. some pieces appear to be overly expensive compared to direct competitors but others are cheaper. It's a total toss up. If you're smart, you'll pick and choose pieces that are important to you. Also, after purchase support is top-notch - few do it better. Overall, customer service a this store drops my rating from a five to a four. I'm sure they get a lot of looky-loos at Room & Board trying to pick up on a certain design ascetic, but hey when you offer good products, that happens. At least look up from your computer screen, smile, and ask if you can help. That type of thing goes a long way with most people. read more
