Earlier this year, my family bought a new (to us) 100-year-old home, and needed furniture that fit both the house's style and ours. Although we bought a few pieces for various rooms, after five months and way too much shopping, the dining room was still unfurnished. I saw the Yelp reviews for Terra Nova and decided it was worth a visit, even though it was "appointment only," more of a commitment than I usually like to make. Peter put me at ease immediately, and explained that most of their furniture was displayed in an enormous warehouse/showroom, plus a few vintage pieces at the Sawtelle address. I made an appointment, and the family headed over to check out. Wow! The selection was not just impressive, we all liked a lot of pieces we saw. We could have furnished a half-dozen dining rooms! After some discussion, we settled on a table and chairs, plus a console table/sideboard. A few days later we found a vintage piece we really liked at the Sawtelle store and bought that too. About four weeks after the order, all the dining room pieces showed up at our house, delivered by the hardworking Rolando and his crew who were meticulous about setting everything up perfectly (the table is heavy; we would rather not move it.) The set looks as though it was custom-designed for that space. I cannot recommend Terra Nova and Peter enough. read more

I have been doing business with Peter (the owner) for at least 10 years now. In my opinion, it's one of the best design/furniture stores around. Peter and his staff are always a pleasure to deal with, and highly professional. Every time I visit the store, Peter personally greets me, and I find myself losing track of time, as I explore every inch of the space. Peter is constantly traveling and bringing new treasures back to the delight of his customers. ... things that you just won't find anywhere else. If you're looking for good quality, unusual objects to make your home special, then Terra Nova is the place. Peter cares deeply about his store and customers. I recently purchased a beautiful teak wood dining room set with custom chairs. Due to no fault of his, we found that the cushioning in the chairs made them too low for the table, which was a standard size. Peter rented a van, picked up the chairs at my home, and made multiple trips to the factory to ensure the problem was corrected and that I was satisfied. He then brought them back to my home and made sure they were the proper height. The lengths Peter went to make things right says a lot about his commitment to his customers. I think you'd have a tough time finding another business that would work so tirelessly to make sure their customers are happy. I was meeting Lucy Y. at Miss Stevens, but this store was right next door and I can never ignore Asian decor. I am always looking for new items for my new place, and this store has a great selection. Am especially looking for some type of Asian-ish buffet for one wall. Trucked on through the store and found all kinds of things from buffets, to tables, chairs, screens, vases, lamps, mirrors. Saw Terra Nova's ad in the LA Times and checked them out on Yelp. We needed one final piece for our new apartment. We went browsing today and found the perfect cabinet at Terra Nova. It's interesting and unique while being functional -- indicative of the store itself. Peter, the owner, was great to work with -- he was very helpful and accommodating. The sale went smoothly and it'll be delivered by early afternoon tomorrow -- almost instant gratification...see it, buy it and it's in your home. After looking at so many others place for the perfect design I wanted for my living room, I didn't have much luck. Needless to say, I didn't get my hopes up on this place. Well they exceeded my hopes and within 30mins in the store I found a coffee table, two end tables and a media center that I fell in love with. The pricing was very reasonable for the great quality of the furniture and delivery was so fast. All of the items were in my home two days after visiting the store. The young lady and the gentleman were so pleasant to do business with. They even told me when I'm ready to buy bedroom furniture ( as I mentioned I was going to be looking for some) they could find pieces that were no longer in stock. We were told it would be two to three weeks for the couch to be ready and to my surprise it was delivered in exactly two weeks. UNETHICAL!! I found a cabinet there last weekend which I planned to use for the powder room vanity in the home I am renovating. It was close to closing so I asked the sales girl if I could hold it until my designer could see it. She took a post-it and wrote my name and phone number (which was correct) on it and put it on the price tag on the piece. My understanding was that if anyone had interest in the piece before I could return she would call me to see if I was ready to buy it. There was no discussion about how long it could be held. I figured that until someone else wanted it I was safe. If someone wanted it she would call me and I would have the option to buy it. My designer couldn't go until today. We went and there was a SOLD tag on the piece with someone else's name on it. I was livid. The same girl was there and said she remembered me. Then she said she had called me and didn't get an answer. I showed her my phone which had no such phone call from her. I asked why she bothered to put my name and number on the piece if she didn't intend to call me if someone else was interested in the piece? She said she thought she called me (lie) and that she must have had the wrong number (another lie). She said that they only hold items for one day. She never told me that and even if she had, why would she bother to put my name and number on the piece! Then she called the owner Peter. I explained the situation and he simply hung up on me. So incredibly unethical!!!! Great pieces but really bad business ethics... DON'T TRUST THEM!!!!!! read more

This place is the furniture store of my dreams. I have been on the hunt for an asian or rustic buffet on the larger side (at least 80" wide) but I didn't want to sacrifice my first born to pay for it. There are a few rustic furniture stores in Santa Monica that I adore, but their location means that you're paying a premium on their wares. I stumbled upon Terra Nova in a late night Google rabbit hole and I couldn't wait to pay them a visit. The second I walked in, I was in love. It's a large store with a huge selection of buffets, tables, consoles, chairs, cabinets, shelves, decor and more and the BEST part is that the prices are TOTALLY REASONABLE. Peter, the owner of the shop, could not have been more friendly or helpful. I did not feel pressured in any way. He walked me around the store and pointed out a few pieces that he knew were in the size range I was looking for, then left me to it. I wandered the store for at least an hour before zeroing in on a few pieces. I ultimately ended up buying a beautiful Indian rustic/antique buffet that day. Peter helped me make certain that it was the measurements I needed and was very helpful in supplying a measuring tape. I explained that the buffet would actually be used to house some electronics and was concerned that the buffet would not have the appropriate ventilation. He said that he could have his guys put some cut outs in the back to provide the needed airflow - all I had to do was provide the measurements of the cutouts and where exactly I wanted them. I did so the next day after figuring out the measurements I needed, and he executed them beautifully. Peter uses a delivery team of two very nice guys. It cost me $150 for the delivery because I live on the second floor and there is no elevator in my building. Two of the hardest working dudes I've met. They were very professional and covered my stairs and other furniture they would be working near in blankets to prevent any scratching. They even took out the old shelf that used to occupy the space the new buffet is now in...they don't technically haul out old furniture for you, but I asked really nicely and then tipped them heftily as a big thank you. Over all, I cannot say enough nice things about my experience with Terra Nova. So many beautiful unique pieces at the right prices, and the owner is a gem. I hope they are around a very long time because I'll be shopping with them again! read more
