ESCAPETHEROOMers visited Room with a Clue back in April. They are located in the Nimitz complex. The best way to get to the escape room is by going all the way to the end of the parking area, there's a ramp that goes up to the second floor. Go up the ramp and drive down until you see an area that you can turn left into, the escape room will be located to your right. There's plenty of parking up there. The lobby is cozy as they don't have much space but have a total of three rooms currently with a fourth one in the works. The owner builds everything in house and we were very excited to try this "Stranger Things" TV show inspired room theme - "A Strange Case". The story starts in a little town in the 1980s where strange cases of children beginning to vanish starts and as investigators we were sent by a mother of the last missing child to discover if we can find anything in his house for clues. There was a lot of puzzles that was cleverly designed that stuck with the 1980s times frame. I have to say, there were definitely some items in there that I was too young to remember but at least my "old" husband was able to recognize. Our rating on the puzzle difficulty level was based on 2 people as this room definitely have a lot to do and we would recommend a total of 4. Having someone with 1980s knowledge would also make the room a bit easier but without it it's definitely doable. There were definitely a few design aspects we really liked that we don't want to give it away and they were able to use the space of the room very well. Not much red herrings as pretty much what you see had to be utilized. We liked how they stuck to the storyline till the end. Went here on the spur of the moment with family and we had a great time. A couple of the locks in our room were malfunctioning and slowed us down but we still escaped with 3 minutes to spare. The puzzles were pretty great and the overall design of the challenges were well done and we definitely plan to go back. However, as a general point if feedback, if possible please try to keep replacement locks on hand if possible. It seemed like you were aware of the lock problem and the overall experience would have been much better if we had not had to ask for clues and assistance when it turned out we had solved the puzzle correctly but were dealing with a stuck lock. Still recommend. But if you go here and a padlock won't open even though you think you have the right code or key, call for help. read more

Good price, good location, easy parking. We did the Kobe Sushi room with a group of 5, 2 of whom were children ages 9 and 11. With a little help (3 clues + 1 bonus clue), we were able to solve it, but I feel it was a good difficulty level for us. Both kids and adults had an really fun time solving the puzzle. Our group of three teens and two moms had a BLAST doing three escape rooms here. So. Much. Fun!!! We did three rooms in three days to get the discount: Island Missile Crisis, The White Room, and A Strange Case. We broke out of "Island Missile Crisis" and "A Strange Case," but "The White Room" stumped us (although we were sooooo close to breaking out). Both game masters were so friendly and provided just the right amount of encouragement and very helpful hints. The rooms themselves had a perfect mix of logical and physical puzzles to work through. My favorite was "A Strange Case." It had a bunch of 80's memorabilia that made it very nostalgic for us moms who were teens in the 80's. ;) I very highly recommend these escape rooms. Expensive and kind of annoying Bc I reserved a room and the day later they ran a special and wouldn't honor it. But if you can find a deal, definitely worth grabbing a couple friends (better with only a few people vs a bigger group) and locking yourselves in the room for an hour. read more

This was my boyfriend's first time doing an escape room (my second) and we really enjoyed it! We first did the "Murder at Pier 38" and it was really fun but the hardest one they had. Of course, we lost, especially with two people. We decided to book again right after, and then played the "Stranger Things" themed room. This one was easier, but still hard, but we ended up solving it and taking our 'solved picture. They also gave us a discount for re-booking and a discount for bookings in the future. Super cool! So we finally had the time to claim our complimentary game. We did the Island Task Force. Like the Musuem Robbery, the room was very creative and had a lot of puzzles. We escaped with a little over 3 minutes left. Both rooms are highly recommended. What was awesome was the Island Task Force room is the hardest room outta all their rooms. Room with a Clue is pretty meh ive done tons of escape rooms all over and this would rank towards the bottom of my list it wasn't terrible, but it definitely is not very memorable at all We did the Strange Case room - based off Stranger Things television program. Room was not immersive. this escape room is in some corporate office building and clearly they have some limitations given their location, but it kind of just felt like props thrown into an office building lol. They could use a little more decorations to make it feel more believable we escaped the room easily - nothing was too difficult for us. I think the biggest issue we encountered was just missing a piece of paper that was inside of a backpack or something, so I guess if you do this room make sure to THOROUGHLY check all pockets/nooks/crannies for any clues lol read more

My boyfriend's high school friend came down, so we had to take him to an escape room here! We got a chance to do Santa's Naughty List and Lost in Paradise before he went back to the mainland. Santa's Naughty List: The room was well put together, and the puzzles were really creative. One thing that made our experience even better was our room runner, Sierra. She was really sweet and helped us without giving away entire puzzles. So sad that this room is closed (for now). Lost in Paradise: I didn't care for this one as much as the former. The theming was well done, but some of the puzzles felt like a bit of a stretch. I think Santa's Naughty List set my expectations about higher. Overall a cool escape room place. read more

After waking up, I did a search for escape rooms and stumbled upon Room with a Clue. We played almost all 4 rooms on our honeymoon trip! Without giving anything away, the murder room was our absolute favorite! The puzzles in all the rooms flowed well (especially murder) and we had a lot of fun making our way (almost all the way) through :) highly recommend room with a clue! We tried to do a few rooms with less people than recommended (because it was just the two of us) so that didn't bode well for us x) but we still had fun! Make sure you read their instructions to find the place because it's on the second floor. We had a little trouble finding it because we didn't also, bathrooms are outside, a little bit of a walk but not hard to find. Overall, great escape rooms! read more

"Soooo, we're going to PAY to break out of a room?" How silly is that? Shouldn't it be, "we break IN and get PAID!!" I've never done an escape room ever, yet alone play or practice escape rooms on my phone. I have one game app on my phone and am stumped (if that's any indication on my gaming capabilities). I'll try anything once just for the sake of experience. This place is centrally located with tons of free parking!! Those two factors alone decide whether or not I attend anything. Room With a Clue is two months old and albeit they only have one room right now they have room to grow and with such an ideal location and accessibility, no doubt they will ride the wave of escape room success. "How do you TRAIN for an escape room?" I absolutely have zero clue!! Coffee! Sudoku! Who knows! Just have the spirit of being extremely nosey and leaving no stone unturned in the room. Everything (almost - see rules) is connected. That's all I can say. Super great fun! Frantic and exhilarating as the time ticks down to zero. You have 60 minutes (it goes by FAST) to break out. And contrary to what I initially thought, zero experience is needed! I surprised my husband with a surprise game night and he was hooked!! We are definitely looking forward to getting a few competitive teams together to play simultaneously once RWAC opens more rooms but for now, they have one room that is played over and over. This place made me feel like a kid again! As in, Harriet the Spy, Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales and Scooby Doo antics. A real life mystery to solve and room to escape. At first, I was a bit apprehensive. Would it be like the movie "Saw" or a haunted house with boogey men hiding in corners? Would I get claustrophobic? Would I get lost in a maze, running for my life? Nope, everything was all smooth sailing and nothing but a good time. Parking was easy- tons of free spots at the Nimitz location. No battling crosstown traffic on a Friday night. We had our time slot reserved in advance and were ready to go. After a quick and helpful orientation on what to do and what not to do. I won't give away any spoilers, but I will say it was pretty hard to figure out the clues. We cracked the first room, only to step into a second room with more puzzles to solve. Even though we didn't beat the timer, we had a blast doing it. 1 hour never felt so long, yet fast at the same time. You can ask for clues over a walkie talkie, and they appear on the video screen. There's a live agent watching and listening, so you can literally call for help. There's a panic button, too, but I was never tempted to use it. If we weren't so stubborn about asking for help, we may have cracked the puzzles faster. I would definitely recommend Room With A Clue. Grab some friends and book the room to yourselves. Not quite what I expected, but still fun, nonetheless. They are located behind the New Eagle Cafe (same building) on Nimitz (Nimitz Center) on the second floor. Take the ramp up to the second floor after you made the turn where Eagle Cafe is. The establishment will be on your left side. There is A LOT of parking, which is always a plus. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. There were 8 of us, which I believe was the maximum, and it came out to about $30 per person. Not bad. The concept: you are all in a room and you need to answer the riddles and find the clues in order to get yourselves out of the room within 60 minutes. We did the Museum Heist and actually broke out of there with 20 minutes to spare. Not too shabby! I don't want to give too much away because I want you to have fun when you check them out. It's good for all ages, BUT the younger kiddies may not be too helpful for you with these escape games. It's a great way to put yourself in some pseudo reality and hang out with a bunch of friends. Great team bonding (hopefully y'all are still friends afterwards). But bottom line, it's 60 minutes (or less) of good fun. Compared to other escape games I've done, they have some kinks they could probably work out and improve on. I'll definitely come back though. We made a reservation online and arrived 5 mins prior to check in. Due to the size of the group and time we want to book, we ended up at the hardest room (less than 30% breakout rate). The puzzles are challenging and it definitely made a great team bonding time. The staff there is very friendly and made us feel good even though we didn't make it out. This was a first time experience so I have no other reference to compare RWAC by. I will say, it was fun! And I would certainly return to try other rooms. We arrived early, as requested, and we waited in the small area outside the rooms for about 10 minutes. Then we were all let into our rooms (large group, two rooms) and the 60 minute clock started counting down. You would not believe how fast an hour goes by when you are trying to solve these puzzles. I participated in the Stranger Things room -- an 80s themed escape room that was pretty tough to...escape. My first-hand experience with that decade did not help me much either, although I definitely recognized much of the paraphernalia: Garbage Pail Kids cards, Max Headroom poster, Rubik's cube, etc. Don't want to give anything away so will stop there. I think the puzzles were complicated but can't say whether they are too complicated or just right until I try another room. We did not escape in time and we were not that close either. There were an awful lot of locks and things that took a bit too long to open. Make sure you have someone locked in with you that has the power of dexterity! But it is fun, and that is what they are supposed to be so I have no regrets. The price is reasonable for a fun evening and I look forward to my next adventure in puzzle-solving to get out of a tiny, cramped room that I paid to have myself locked in. read more

Don't think.. Just go and do it! It's pretty new and I don't think much people heard about it yet but I highly recommend going! The concept is pretty simple.. You get put into a room.. The worker will tell you a clue on where to start and you look for clues around that'll lead you to another clue and another and another until you get to the final code that'll let you get out of the room. It takes teamwork & communication but also remember it's all for fun! I was totally thinking in my head "I'm gonna be so bummed out if we don't make it in an hr" just cause I'm that type of person lol. But we made it out of there with 8 minutes to spare and we had so much fun! It's also really funny cause you're scrambling all over the place. ** if you need help the workers will give you clues thru the tv! The workers were super nice as well. Online it'll say 6 people max but the workers were really nice to allow us to add 2 more people and 1 child. I appreciated that a lot because more of our friends wanted to join us. If you haven't, the concept is you're all locked in a room and there's clues all around you to help you get out. Of course if you really need to leave, there's a panic button you can push to leave. You have one hour to get out of the room. We did the Museum Heist and it was lot of fun. I can't tell you all the logistics but I had a good time. We did end up breaking out fast but I'm going to chalk that up as we're really good lol I'd recommend this place for anyone. It's good for groups, kid, families, etc... Ahh so much fun!! My friends and I did the Haunted Manor room and it was too good! So far this was probably one of my favorite rooms. I loved that they work you up by playing scary music in the background and making the room dark and spooky. It was a challenge, but it was a lot of fun. Going with your group of friends and trying to solve the mysteries made everything so exciting. I was surprised that we we all got out within the 60 minutes. 41:50 to be exact. If you can't think of anything to do with your friends, just go to room with a clue. They inform you on which rooms are harder and which rooms are most recommended. The room was pretty well thought out and there were some cool things in there; we really enjoyed the challenge and had a lot of fun in the process (stressful fun maybe). Probably extra neat for people into Stranger Things (not me, but others in the room were and appreciated it). The one thing I wasn't a fan of was that it felt rushed at the end... they had another group immediately after us and they only briefly explained the steps we missed then kind of kicked us out. I understand they needed to move but it would have been nice to understand the puzzle and where we went wrong; the explanation we got was very rushed and didn't make too much sense. I don't normally write reviews but I think it's very necessary for this place. I'd like to start off by saying that I went to this place with a positive attitude and was really looking forward to "escaping" the Haunted Manor which is the room I booked for two people. There were a few issues we had with the room that ultimately led us to not being able to get out in time but I won't be too specific to preserve the integrity of the room for anyone else that might decide to go to this place. There were two devices that didn't work that were necessary to get other clues to progress in the game and we had to stop for the person working there to come in and fix those things. Although the game time was stopped while it was being fixed, we wasted valuable time in the mean time not knowing if we needed to find something else to make those two things work until we found out that wasn't the case and it was just flat out not working. The other issue was with a document which had a number that looked like another number which caused us to miscalculate and arithmetic problem which in turn wasted valuable time. One we found out what the number was, we were able to progress quickly in the game but valuable time had already been wasted. Lastly, when you finish the game, you get to take a picture and the picture for your group will be sent via email to the email address you provide when you register. I received the email with the pic we took 24hrs later and it was the wrong picture! The picture I received was a picture of another family that was in a different room the same time we were there. We then called the place and were told that they couldn't find the picture that we had taken!! All theses things combined were totally unacceptable and the only compensation we were offered was a 25% coupon for our "next" visit...Who would want to come back to this place after all the things I mentioned happened and to add insult to injury only 25% off! It's not exactly cheap to book these rooms so I'd say think about it and choose wisely if you decide to go here and "Room With a Clue" should get a clue themselves. read more

I have never heard of this place until my friend told me about it several months ago. Honestly, I completely forgot about whatever he said. He asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday. I was tired of the normal, dinner and a movie thing. So we decided to let my friend plan the night. This was our first stop. That's when I remembered he told us about this place...I thought he was kidding but it's real. This place is crazy hidden. The parking lot was almost empty the day we went. We went in and we had to sign a weaver basically saying we wouldn't break anything. It's called a break out room not a break everything room. After that we are given the run down. The rules and regulations and what we can do and what we don't need to do. Basically the rule rundown. I did not mind because the woman who gave the rules was really pretty. Little shout out: Michelle, you are awesome! If you're looking, I am single. lol. So after the rules are dealt out you are put into the room (I believe my friend choose the room ahead of time) and you are given your back story. Then the game starts. You have one hour to solve the room and it can be hard. I can't even tell you what it entails because that would ruin it for you and their business....not to mention they change it every so often! This is definitely something you want to do with a group. Unless you're the Riddler or something. You can ask for hints but they try to encourage you to think about it and work it out on your own. But they still help you if you ask. My group made it out with 4 minutes to spare. Because we're awesome lol. I believe they have a record posted of the best times. We did not come close to those times. But 4 minutes isn't bad. This is really a fun night out with friends kind of thing. I really want to go again and try the room we didn't have before. I would definitely go back...as long as my shout out did not ban me from going back lol. Definitely worth going! read more

This my second time coming to this place. I decided to come here for my cousin's birthday. It was a challenge because there were only two of us; an escape room is doable with 2 persons though, do not get me wrong. I love coming here because they have free parking and I do not have to drive far. Plus, I had a promo code which made it much more afforable than other escape rooms. We actually came in about 10 minutes before our appointment (it is recommended to come in 15 minutes before your appointment time) and there were no problems. We chose the Haunted Manor escape room and it was a good experience. Both my cousin and I's eye's were sore at the end of the challenge. We honestly would've chosen something else if we had known or it was labled on their website that the room would be dark for the entire challenge. When booking online, beware: there are no refunds once you pay/book the room. So really make sure you are set on the date and time. Our operator, Bryan, was great! He gave out clues throughout the challenge that were helpful as he watched us struggle (haha). Definetly would come back again. read more

This was my first Escape Room experience and the group chose to do the hardest room. I didn't exactly know what to expect. I went with a group of 8 people for Father's Day and 6 of the 8 people had done an escape room before. This made things easier to understand however, it still challenged me to think outside of the box. I like how clever everything was put together. We had to look through drawers, under tables and configure codes to unlock locks in three different rooms. Every detail was pertinent to getting out. Some of the clues weren't as clear as we desired so we spent a little more time in some areas vs others. I'm giving them a 4/5 because it was really hot in the escape room. With several people moving around I felt like I was going to pass out. If I could give any feedback, I'd recommend turning down the AC so people can be comfortable while figuring out how to escape. Escape Room test. What's that you may ask? If you ever want to see who you can trust and work with when stuff hits the fan, look no further than getting your friends into an escape room. Even if you fail, you have the experience and the inner reflection to know what you can work on. Escape the room successfully? Then you know who you can trust and work with during that zombie apocalypse. Room With a Clue is a pretty standard escape room in terms of themes. Currently, a murder mystery, escaping a haunted house, and a diamond heist are the three offered here. What sets them apart from others in Hawaii is that they do a good job with the video introduction and it's production quality to have you get into the mood of escaping the room. Nothing pre-timer fancy here, just effectiveness. Our team has completed all three of these rooms on our first try. Two of which came pretty close. This says quite a bit on the difficulty of the room. Although Diamond Heist is a perfect starting escape rooms for teams, we first tried the Haunted Manor, then Diamond Heist, and then lastly, the Island Task Force. I can easily say that Island Task Force is the most difficult room I've ever been in so far. You're constantly trying to push ahead with solving puzzles and there is quite a lot of puzzles here. Great staff here and parking is adequate. Definitely the place to start your own Escape Room test team! read more

I guess I have only been here very few times in comparison to the numerous times I have been to Breakout Waikiki. I think I prefer Breakout Waikiki still, because the rooms here seems less well thought out or harder to get through. For example, even though we got a piece of our puzzle, it took us a while to get the code to the lock, because the writing on the glass didn't line up super well. Some of the pieces of certain rooms also seemed incomplete or leaps to us.... at Breakout Waikiki, when we failed, I always left thinking how I couldn't understand why I didn't see it, whereas here, i could kind of understand why I wouldn't have gotten there. It's hard for me to explain. I'm trying to not say too much without giving it away XD the guy who led one of our room did his job but wasn't as responsive too. Overall, we still enjoyed it enough. There is enough parking on the 2nd floor. I'd come here again, mostly because it is more convenient in terms of the parking and getting there as opposed to the one in waikik read more

For my first foray in the escape room genre a Room with a Clue did not disappoint. I had played escape room games on a computer, but this was my first interaction with a physical space. Four of us tackled the museum heist scenario in which we were tasked with stealing a diamond from a museum inside of a one hour time limit. We split up in to two teams and one team was locked in the security office and the other was locked in the museum. From there we had to communicate and solve various puzzles which would open locked doors, lockers, boxes, etc. One clue let to another and we managed to escape with 6:20 left on the clock. If you do get stuck, your entire group can use up to three clues which will help you get past whatever you're working on. There are cameras and microphones in the room so someone is watching what you're doing and if you get stuck all you need to do is call out for help and help will appear via a message board/countdown timer on one of the walls. Overall, I was very impressed at the level of puzzles and how well thought out the clues were laid out before us. At the time of this review, they offer one more scenario in which you need to escape a haunted manor and I believe they were working on a third room with a beach theme. BLUF: 5 stars for the creativity! What a blast! A fun, intellect challenging night without having to use alcohol or exotic dancing. We just completed a session of trying to do a diamond heist and figuring out various clues to get out of our room. It took team work to complete this mission..great bonding time. Found this gem while Google searching for escape rooms in Oahu and decided to give it a shot with its existing high rating and raving reviews... so glad that I did! (They also had a promotional discount code they posted) Please keep in mind that this is my very first escape room experience! Booked the "Haunted Manor" room hoping it was just my fiancé, Ryan, and I on a Thursday afternoon at 4:30PM. And it was! The gentleman who helped us today was the most memorable portion of our experience today - he made everything better for us! (I am sorry I forgot his name in the excitement of everything but hope this will be passed onto him by management please). The set up was in one room connected to another room. Without giving away too much, the type and level of puzzles and thinking was what I thought to be perfect for us both. You are able to request clues IF needed and the clues he gave was perfect - not too much and not too little! Unfortunately, we did not solve it within the hour but he was generous enough after to show us the remaining portion as there was no one else there so the 3 of us went through the rest of it together along with some great conversation. They have 2 other rooms as well for other levels of difficulty and challenge. Everyone has to have a first for everything - we are so glad it was here!! read more
