Wanted to do this for my birthday and after a 2 month delay of procrastination me and my girlfriends finally decided to try it. You have to book it online and be made as one payment. We scheduled this team adventure on a Sunday afternoon. Room With A Clue is located on the 2nd Floor above Sensually Yours and Nice to Meet you Cafe. It's a little hidden so keep your eyes out. When you go up the ramp, it will be on your left hand side in the corner. There is lots of free parking (always a plus) and many stalls available. We checked in 15 minutes early so we could fill out the consent forms. Me and my girls did the Museum Robbery and you were split up in 2 teams depending on your problem solving skills. There is a window where each team can look into the room and communicate. You have 60 Minutes to complete the task and are provided with 3 clues that you can use when you are stuck in a rut. There are a lot of hidden messages and locks to decipher which was fun and puts your team work to the test. This must be interesting/amusing for the person who gets to watch the team escape. We were successful to retrieve the diamond with only seconds to spare...it was quite a victory for us since we wanted so badly to win. If you check in via yelp or facebook you can get a free sticker! They post the group photos on their facebook page which is nice. I really want to try the Haunted Manor scenario. Looking forward to more scenarios available (a Vegas theme? Some kind of murder mystery?). Definitely would come back to try a different scenario. This is great for team building and a way to see how others work together. It is a shared bathroom with the 2nd floor so be sure to use the bathroom before you enter your game. The facility is clean and are still in renovations. I was torn writing this review on whether or not to give it a three or four star, and I settled on a three stars. We had a good time and this is probably a decent room compared to others on the island, but without question Breakout Waikiki and Escape Challenge are better. We have done all three rooms that they offer. One of them we did with our dedicated group of three couples, and two rooms just two of the three couples. My wife and I have done about 30 escape rooms all over the country with nearly 100% success rate (see below). Why I deducted stars: 1. The first room we did here, we were on the last puzzle. I'm not going to give away the solution to the room, but the truth is the room had a puzzle that was possible to screw up to no fault of your own. Basically the puzzle gave an answer that did not work, and time expired. This is the only time our group has failed to escape. Our group of four has even beat the Cellar at Escape Challenge with a fourth or fifth all time score and the only group to do so with four people, which is billed as the hardest room on the island with a 10% success rate (and they even offer 50% discount for the second time because so many people fail the first time). This was really disappointing to me. I can live with failure, but not because your puzzle gave the wrong answer. 2. This past weekend we finished up the last room with them, the diamond heist. Here we needed to figure out a puzzle despite the elements not being set up correctly. We still got out, but it was clear again that the puzzle was set up incorrectly and the employee even said it was. Also, we were able to complete the room skipping some of the puzzles, which is disappointing. These seem minor, but it definitely knocks it down a few notches compared to other rooms on the island where we have never had puzzles provide incorrect answers or have rooms set up incorrectly which resulted in us having to skip/solve puzzles without the proper equipment. Also, the owner was there and bragged to our group that her business was all female owned. I don't care who owns your business - minorities, men, women, LGTBQ, none of that. We are paying 30ish per person to come to your business for it to work properly. Two out of the three of your rooms we had issues with due to either technical issues or improper room set up. Having a female-owned business is not a qualification for a good escape room and positive reviews. Having a good escape room set up correctly is a qualification for positive reviews. read more

Our group had an AWESOME experience with laughs and fun to last a long time! We did the Museum Robbery room. Some in the group had done an escape room before, so it was good to see what they were doing to try to solve the initial clues. Though we were a minute shy of breaking out, I feel like we totally got our money's worth - the many failed attempts resulted in the most hilarious moments! This was my first escape room; we came here because my friend's girlfriend purchased vouchers for him as an early Christmas present and we tagged along. We played the Haunted room which has an escape rate in the low 40s. My friends are really book smart so I figured this would be a piece of cake. The room and puzzles were as I expected them to be, so I guess it's my friends and I who dropped the ball, haha! You're allotted three hints during the game, each fifteen minutes apart (I believe). If you need a hint, you just wave at the camera and ask for one. The hints and comments (some quite sarcastic) we got were tailored to the things we were doing and thinking aloud so that made the game more fun. We hit 60 minutes and we had solved maybe half of the locks, puzzles, and riddles, if that. The guy who was working came into our room and asked if we were genuinely having fun, and since we said yes (we really were, despite feeling as incompetent as we were at the time), he let us play until we finished. He stayed in the room with us and gave us more hints (especially since we solved some things out of order) but his commentary and personality in general made the game even more fun. I'm guessing they let us stay late because we were the last group (our appt was at 7:30pm). I've never been to the second floor of the Nimitz plaza, so I wouldn't have found this place on my own. If you go up the ramp on the New Eagle Cafe side, Room with a Clue's space is across the parking lot in the left corner. There's lots of parking so that isn't an issue. In addition to the haunted room that we did, there's also a task force room (with a 16% escape rate!) and a Christmas themed one. I think there may also be another, but it's escaping me at the moment. Definitely worth a try! Also, I'm terrified of the dark and I've heard that some haunted escape rooms are actually pretty scary, so I was so relieved when this one wasn't near pitch black and didn't have random loud noises, things popping up, etc. read more

I brought a big family group to Room With a Clue the week before Christmas to try their "Santa's Naughty List" game. Everyone had done at least one room before, but none of us had done more than two or three, so we were happy that this one was labeled as being on the easier side of things (especially since we had two kids in the group). I was blown away by the fun we all had in this particular escape room! No spoilers, of course, but I can tell you that the puzzles were all very satisfying, and several were things I've never run into before. The level of creativity and cleverness in the puzzle design was lovely, and there were plenty of things that the kids (ages 10 and 12) could do to be totally part of the game. This experience shared something in common with my prior favorite escape room experience, in that the person working there kept an eye on things remotely and proactively jumped in to let us know (via text on a screen) when there was something that we had correctly solved but were just implementing incorrectly, rather than something that we hadn't figured out yet. It's frustrating when you have the right answer but don't know it because of technical difficulties or that sort of thing, and that wasn't going to be the case here at all. We've done several escape rooms and are totally addicted to them because all ages enjoy it, adults, kids, teens, etc. I recently gifted all my friends and family with escape rooms experiences for Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised with this escape room! Our group consisted of 5 adults and 3 kids ages, 7,8,10. The kids had the most fun and really helped us escape the room! The clues and hints were very clever and challenging and encouraged us to all work together. I would highly recommend Room With a Clue! We plan to do all their other rooms soon. read more

Dude. If my life depended on getting out of that room, I would have died. Good thing I had what equated to a "Life Alert" button at all times, and staff watching by web camera to save me in case of anxiety attack. (Which, incidentally, was not necessary.) When I first heard about Room with a Clue, it was a totally foreign concept to me. I said, "You mean, I get locked in a room for an hour and have to escape? I'm claustrophobic. Sounds scary." I was assured, however, that no it's not scary, and indeed it was not. It was just 60 solid minutes of fun. Remember "Myst," that computer game from the 90s? I felt like that's what I was living inside; I just got dropped in a room with very little instruction and had to figure out clues based on, well, answers to other clues. I was equal parts intrigued and baffled the whole time. Between piecing together clues that seemingly have no relevance or relation to each other, and trying to understand what we were intending to accomplish, it was a challenge each step of the way. I also naively thought, "How hard could this really be?" The answer: Quite, actually. I'm either not as smart as I always thought, or I'm just not cut out for a career requiring decoding clues. Because maaaan, it took our group of six more than the allotted hour; I would have been there for days on my own. This would make a really fun couples date night activity (and, probably tell you a lot about the couples themselves, haha). As for me, I swear I fell more in love with my husband, watching him play. Turns out he's super-good at solving puzzles, and somehow, that's really hot. It would also make a really good team-building activity at work. You work together under what feels like high-stakes pressure, and it's immensely satisfying to figure stuff out. I highly recommend it! It was such a rush! read more

Our experience here was just alright compared to other escape games. This place might benefit from having at least a couple of workers rather than just a single person playing the martyr and running everything. The quality and construction of the rooms also seems just a tad more than mediocre. We suffered a few technical glitches during our run, and that wasn't too fun. Without giving away any spoilers, a few of the clues show a bit of cultural bias. Visitors with a strong knowledge of American culture and popular media would definitely have an advantage over tourists or people who just don't keep up with Western things. Having a nice professionally done introduction and rule video, I feel, would be beneficial and really help to build up the hype and storyline before beginning an escape attempt. Perhaps my biggest gripe, though, is that unlike Breakout Waikiki you must book the whole room or else you run the risk of having to go into the room with complete strangers. That means, if you wanted to ensure that you and a single friend could run the room alone, you'd be forking out over $200, and that would just be ridiculous. It's challenging enough communicating with people you know effectively to solve puzzles; even attempting to work with strangers would just completely ruin the experience for me. It honestly doesn't even seem that busy here, so allowing groups to reserve a room to themselves, perhaps with at least a minimum of 3 people, really couldn't cause much harm, could it? If consumers look at the booking website and see that spots are already booked, I think most people are considerate enough not to book in that same room anyway, but that might just be a cultural thing... read more

It's become a sort of tradition that I do an escape room every time I visit Hawaii. Last year my family and I did the Museum room and it was great. And so I returned with my friends and we successfully got out of Lost in Paradise. As we were standing outside in the parking lot one of the employees stormed out and said to us "can you help me move the [item]? It's too heavy and I can't do it myself. There's a sign on it that says not to remove, and usually when it says that you're not supposed to remove it." Whoops! Yes it was a mistake on our part - we all recognize that. In the excitement of the game we slid a bulkier item maybe like 6 inches to a foot to the right. So we gladly went back in and helped move it back, apologizing for the mistake. But she continued to repeat the same thing in frustration - "when it has a sign you're not supposed to remove it." Then she barked "now I have to find the [other item]!" To which my cousin said, "um, it's right there...". I think it's of note that while we were in the game we were all very conscious about keeping the locks and keys together and in decent order. So was she just upset that she had to reset the room??? Isn't that just part of the job? There was another employee there that was very sweet and professional and tried to ease the tension. I've done quite a lot of escape rooms, all over the world and have never been treated like that. I understand that we made a mistake in sliding a piece of furniture, but it was not maliciously done. And in my experience most items that they want in a specific location are bolted to the ground. Maybe we just caught her on a bad night...but her words and tone were extremely rude and condescending. We are five professional women and we were treated like a bunch of rowdy teenagers that don't know how to read. I'd rather not subject myself to that kind of treatment or recommend that my friends do. read more

Yet another "breakout" type of place. Room with a Clue is located on Nimitz, right above Eagle Cafe & Sensually Yours. Tucked away in the corner, it would be easy to miss, cause I surely did even if there was no other place open at 7:30pm on a Sunday lol. I saw that they just opened up a Haunted Mansion room just in time for Halloween so of course I wanted to go! I went with my two cousins and sister this time. Arrive about 10-15 mins early to your time slot to sign some waivers if you havent already done so. Unfortunately, we didn't break out...but we were close! The staff said that we were working on the second to the last lock, so I believe if we had a couple more mins, we would've been able to do it. Their room was decorated very well with the theme. There were a few times where we all got freaked out and was afraid that something was gonna pop out at us, haha! It was super fun to do, even with just the four of us, and we are determined to get complete it!! If not, there's two other rooms to choose from! read more

I have been here twice, both times with a group of 6. We have done the Haunted Manor and the secret agent room, and both were very good. The secret agent room was the better of the two, in my opinion, despite a small puzzle malfunction which we brought to the attention of the game makers. The Haunted Manor was good, but I wasn't as impressed with the story of the puzzle. If you aren't as drawn to the story aspect of the game, then it probably won't matter to you. Overall, I enjoyed both rooms, and thought they were great for the entire group. There were enough puzzles to keep the game interesting for everyone, and we didn't always have to rely on one puzzle to be finished before we could work on the next, which is a common flaw in many escape rooms. read more

Anxiety. Pressure. Fun. Room with a clue was my first escape room experience and I have to say that I had fun. First of all, finding this place might be a bit of a challenge in itself, but if you're familiar with new eagle cafe or for those more mature audiences, sensually yours. It's in the same complex on the second floor. I know what you're thinking, "that place has a second floor?" But yes, my advice would be to drive up the ramp on the back side of the building and "room with a clue" will be nestled in the corner on the your left. Prior to you entering your room, the game master briefs you on the rules of the game and your objective and then it's game time. We did the museum heist room and I thought the experience was everything I expected. Without giving anything away, I will say that communication and team work is definitely necessary. Also, the help clues given were key in our success. I don't know if we would have escaped without it. A great activity for a small group, we had a group of 7 and I think it may have been a few people too many since the majority of the clues needed maybe 2 or 3 people working on it at the same time. And I guess the one downfall of this place is that it doesn't become cheaper with more people, it seems like the only price break comes when booking a full room. Regardless, our group had fun and we escaped! I would definitely recommend Room with a Clue and maybe I'll make it back to try their other room which we were told was just redone and much harder. read more

I had never been to one of these before and wasn't super excited about it. This place changed my mind! We were in the hardest room and didn't make it out but still had a great time. The staff members were fun and had a great sense of humor, which made the overall experience that much more fun. This "breakout" room has been the 3rd one I have went to and I have to say they are good ! But the hard part is finding the location, because I kinda had a hard time finding myself. It's on the top level of the Nimitz shopping area. Above Sensually Yours and Red Wing Shoes, and when you get up there its going to be on your left hand side in the corner of the building (the parking lot is kinda funky, heads up). We had gone into a haunted mansion themed room at the time we went, with 3 of my cousins. Try to arrive 10-15 mins earlier then the booked time to fill out the waiver forms and etc. They were really nice people and explained everything very well, but of course we did not breakout ! But we were like literally couple clues away from breaking out and it was just the 4 of us. The room was very scary tbh so you know that they took a lot time into putting the room together, the music all the way to the pictures on the wall got me going (; haha but we did have a lot of fun and we were trying so hard to get the hell out of there asking for clues and trying to think about anything and everything possible. I love escape rooms, my husband and I do them all the time. At home we do them with friends, but when we are on vacation we like to try rooms as well. We have done over 50 rooms, the majority of them in the LA area. We did the escape from paradise room. This room was not great. It was not immersive. It is mostly lock and key and the one piece of tech did not work and the game master had to come in and fix it. He actually came into the game 3 times. There was no flow, and most of the puzzles didnt make sense. I do not recommend this room to anyone. Beginners will be lost and experienced players will be frustrated. read more

I greatly appreciated our last visit. Our game masters Deidre and Aaron were fantastic and the games were great. I absolutely love the Save Santa room because of the food donation component of the game and the nature of the room, not a lot of tech but still lots of great puzzles. I'm so happy to have had my comments heard since the visit before had gone so poorly, nearly one year ago. As far as I can tell, new management is doing a much better job. We've absolutely recovered from that experience, and this location is back to being my favorite spots for breakout games. Parking, location, ease of access are all pluses. read more

Room With A Clue was an awesome experience and their location is super convenient! It's right off of Nimitz with lots of available parking. The escape room itself was challenging and fun. The only downfall I would say is the bathroom being across the parking lot (a little eerie at night) and they only have two rooms. Having seen escape rooms on TV a few years ago I wished we had them here in Hawaii, they looked like a ton of fun! Fast forward a few years and we finally had a few to choose from! A group of friends and I had been trying to plan one for a while but our schedules never really worked out until we checked Room With A Clue one day and it had so many open spots we were stoked. We booked a Saturday afternoon in the Museum Heist room with 7 of us. As you enter they have a few puzzles for you to play around with while you wait for your session to begin. When it was time for our group to head in the host explained the scenario and we were split into 2 rooms, a "security room" and the "museum room". Not wanting to give away the awesome fun we had I will just say that we broke out in 47:35 out of the hour and want to try the other room, "Secret Agent" room. As a guy who loves escape games, I have to check them out whenever I am traveling. While on Oahu, I heard great things about Room With a Clue, so we booked two of their rooms during our vacation! Our family loved every minute of the 1 hour challenge. Reminded us partly a game of clue and being a detective as we tested our wits to figure out the puzzles. The game masters were helpful by giving clues when we needed and we definitely needed that nudge in the right direction! It was always a great "ah-ha!" moment once we solved the puzzles! I have gone to other escape games around the world and disagree with some other reviews that may have thought this place wasn't up to par. The puzzles flow well together and match the theme of the game. We had a great experience. Definitely put this one on your list as an escape game to visit while on Oahu. read more

My first reaction about Room with a Clue was "Yes Please"! I figured this new concept of an interactive game should be fun with a group of friends. When I first got to Room with a Clue, I was greeted by a nice lady who introduced her self and explained the game and rules. As soon as the game started, everyone in my group scrambled to unlock clues. At one point we got stuck and needed help, so we waved at the camera and got a clue. Eventually after unlocking many clues, we solved the mystery and got out before time ran out! I cant wait for the new interactive room when its ready in April! Don't be afraid to come here with a group, in fact it is what you need to do. Gather your friends and get into a room with a clue and see how you fare! Plenty of mysteries for your creative mind combined with the twisting and turning of a fun hide and seek game. Solve one room and move on to the next, but don't be fooled! Haa haaa! The rooms are timed, so you can't take all day, and the tricks require some craftiness so you could get trapped! The time flies so fast when having fun, so better get to solving!! I've been doing escape rooms all my life back home in California and this was one of the first rooms that I completed when I came out to Oahu for college. I am pleased to say that completing Lost in Paradise with my boyfriend and we were quite stumped and the puzzles are quite unconventional. However, it was a very nice change of pace and I enjoyed it very much! My boyfriend and I had an amazing time communicating with each other and even though we did not get to escape, we had a good time! Our game master, Bryan, had such a good attitude and helped us immensely. I have come back and completed A Stranger Case and that room is just nostalgia central! I've been to about half a dozen different escape rooms around the world so I had high expectations for Room With a Clue when we got there. Room With a Clue is located at the Nimitz Center on the second floor and the parking there is free. We were greeted by a cheerful Tracy and was given the rules and the story background. Once the game started it was clear that there were a variety of puzzles and locks to open, unlike others where majority of the puzzles is opening locks. The game master did a good job of making sure we got useful clues at the right time without interrupting the game play. We got out with a record time which was super exciting. I am looking forward to the next room called "The Museum Heist Room". I would highly recommend checking out this establishment and I will be returning again. read more

Nice that there were secret rooms to open. The staff was short handed?? So was delayed in giving us clues (had to shout multiple times), then couldn't give us clues in their tv and had to come in and ask us what we did so far (didn't keep track of what we did). One clue told us to open a specific program which was actually incorrect. We lost a lot of time. A lot of the time we were moving as a group trying to solve one clue at a time. Clues were setup that you Couldn't really split up to try and solve multiple clues at once. So In the end we lost. Bummer. Well on to the next room read more

This was the best version of solving clues to escape a room. So glad this came to Honolulu. This is great with a big team or just a few people. It's great for corporate team building events or just a friends night out. The team works hard to develop the best & most innovative activities. There are activities for everyone of all ages. I have been to 2 other rooms and if this place is called, "Room with a Clue," then I could be labeled, "Old man without a clue." We decided to take this on as a family. I must say that I had the most fun I ever had in an escape room. There were much to do, much clues to discover and solve, much locks to unlock. The time just flew by. Getting out was a really great feeling. The person who was there was very nice and very helpful. The room was well done and clean. The location had a lot of parking.
