Upon entering, we informed the hostess that we were interested in hot beverages and a dessert and she apologized that they offered only "plain coffee", not the specialty coffees of a restaurant down the street. Perfect, we didn't need a fancy roast. My husband ordered a hot coffee ($3.75), while I ordered hot tea ($3.75). We split a slice of Amish Apple Pie ($11.75). The pie was delicious, and tasted home-made. My husband's coffee was good, and I was offered a tray with tea options. However, by the time taxes and tip were added, we felt that $25 was just too much for two plain (non-specialty) beverages and a split dessert (even in a touristy area with a limited season). Run by the sweetest and friendliest couple we've met on our journey to the rockies, the Silver Gate BBQ is a special spot because it's *not* a fancy sit down restaurant with permanent furniture. What it is is two genuine folks, oozing with love for their food and home, cooking up a storm in a bear-proof stall that's in their front yard with lawn chairs as seating on the side...and it's one of the most memorable things we encountered on the trip. Going by the google maps location got us to where they're situated; you'll likely pass by them if you're driving in/out of Silvergate anyway, but as you're coming out it's right at the edge of town before you hit all the other buildings on the left. Just look for that bright yellow trailer! The husband gave us some grand advice to take a look at the Beartooth Highway since we were out in this direction, which given how scenic that drive is I can absolutely vouch for that it was a great decision to embark on.
