I'll definitely be going back to try Nashville hot as the spicy was not spicy to me. You then pick if you want white meat, dark meat, or mixed. I went with a mix. The chicken was as succulent and juicy as you'd expect from a quality chicken joint. The chicken was perfectly breaded and used the right amount of seasoning. As far as sides, I went with the creamy mac and cheese and the roasted green beans. The beans were cooked in vinegar based sauce which provided acidity to the meal. I'm glad I paired it with the creaminess of the mac and cheese for balance. Next time I'm going to try the homemade chips and cucumber cole slaw. Overall, I still like Honey Butter Fried Chicken better, but this spot is definitely a great spot for fried chicken if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Stopped here after looking up reviews for good fooD in area and seen photos of how good the chicken looked. The outside looks kina small and maybe closed, because there no fancy liights or people walking in and out. Don't be fooled once you walk in it livens up with music playing and cooks in thhe kitchen. Orderd the crispy chicken sandwich that came wwith pickle, coleslaw and some type of yum yum sauce on a bbrioche bun. It was cOoked to perfection, with tons of flavor and not saturated with oill. Ok, the chicken was delicious, fresh, juicy, tender, seasoned very well, I mean I could go on and on! We had the random 6 pieces with spicy and Nashville hot, not too spicy (I like spice) but really good flavor and more than enough for two people to share. For the most part the tables outside were clean, however, I did ask the gentleman to wipe the table down for us and he did with no problem. This story is unlike any other, I can assure you. Buckle up, lads- this is going to be a fun ride. Just moved here from nyc. Was out w my gf and two of our friends grabbing a snack before the city shut down for curfew at 9. We placed an order online and trotted a mile and a half walking to go get our chicken treats. I live for fried chicken so naturally I was super stoked but ending up super disappointed. We got a 1/4 bird (all dark; spicy), mac-n-cheese, biscuit, and a Nashville hot chicken sandwich with dill pickles, chipotle ranch, and slaw. The chicken was just too fried. The thigh was dry, but the wing was juicy. It did not have a lot of flavors. The biscuit was not warm or fluffy. The mac-n-cheese was way too peppery. The Nashville hot chicken was also a bit dry. The chipotle ranch was good, but they sort of overdid it, so I recommend that you get that on the side. The inside of the breast was nice & juicy not dry for the thickness of it. Mac & cheez as a side was ok but I could do without & peach cobbler for dessert was good but could be better. I ordered a meal which consisted of a sandwich plus a side & dessert(or 2 of each) for $10.50 plus a bottled mexican style soda for additional $2.50 plus tax, totalled to $15.50. White boy knows chicken! There's plenty of good chicken in Chicago whether it be fast, hood, homemade, or fancy. Roost is between homemade and fancy but it's like you can taste the thought put into their offerings. I've tried original and spicy and I vote that spicy should be original, word up. The kick is the perfect balance. The original leaves an herb taste in my mouth that's neither pleasant or unpleasant. I'm pretty sure it's rosemary but I'd never dare ask and they'd never dare tell. The menu is small and well done and that's all I ever ask, especially of Asian menus. The only breakfast sandwich in the world should really be the Stevie. The chicken, always spicy. Go for the Hillbilly Taco if you want variety. The taco is great too and I know this because I actually hate cucumbers and in their slaw they found a way to cut its taste with the celery seed but refreshingly so. I dig the work ethic and hustle that came from NC and just know that the chicken here rivals the joint on Elston and the biscuit surpasses the joint on California. I used to frequent Roost Lakeview every Sunday a few years ago, and they eventually led me down a road of disappointment. Eager to give it another shot a couple of years later, I went in this week to grab a meal combo - a sandwich and two sides. I was already pretty saddened after I heard they replaced the homemade chips with fries, but opted to try them. I grabbed my bag and began to walk home, pounding hot fries into my mouth to numb the blistering pain of the freezing cold. The flavor was good, but holy moly, they were over seasoned. I had to throw them away as soon as I got home as they were inedible. The sandwich itself was pretty lackluster, the biscuit had a nice flavor and was crisp yet soft - but the actual meat itself was forgettable. It was dry, and at a 'spicy' heat level I expected more flavor and got nothing. Overall, this experience reminded me why I abandoned this relationship years ago. I will not be going back, and highly recommend you get your fried chicken fix elsewhere. read more
