This place is TINY. There's about 8 barstools for seats, and some outdoor space. The woman taking orders in the front was slow to take care of us, even though we were the only ones there. Food is incredible though. My boyfriend loves Nashville hot chicken, so he's tried all the places in Chicago. We both got sandwiches, mine on a biscuit and his on a brioche bun. We really like the make your own option, which you can put anything on you want. The sides were incredible. Creamy mac & cheese, perfectly fried french fries, and super delicious peach cobbler. The only downside here is they keep their front door open, and it was absolutely freezing the whole time. My food cool down so fast, and I was shivering. Came in here one day to give it a shot and it was totally worth it. There have been a lot of chicken and biscuits places popping up but this maybe my favorite. Inside is small and bustling but the people are always ready to serve with a smile. The menu has so many good things you can get overwhelmed. The house style sandwich is what I landed on and the Mac and cheese. The biscuit was soft and not over buttered like some others I've had. The chicken was nicely cooked and had just the right amount of kick to let you know it was there. Just to be clear all chipotle sauce isn't chipotle sauce. Actually coming from North Carolina, I had high expectations for this chicken sandwich. And while it didn't completely meet my (admittedly high) expectations, I can honestly say it was pretty good! It was done in 4 bites and I was left wanting more. The flavor was pretty good but the chicken could have been a lot better if they used a larger, juicier piece. We got the mac and cheese (fine) and the peach cobbler which was surprisingly tasty. Very different than normal cobbler (more cake like?) but good. The sides made up the bulk of the meal so I would have been very disappointed if a paid $10 for the biscuit itself and got that tiny excuse for a meal. The breast is very juicy and comes in a few different spice levels that pairs great with a chipotle ranch. Also make sure you get the biscuit, you will thank me later. Outside of the sandwich the peach cobbler is above average and hand cut fries which I personally appreciate. **I will note that on my last visit I tried the green beans to balance out all the fried food but they were very salty. Not sure if it was a off day or what but they were not edible. Only con with this location is the seating is very limited so keep that in mind. Just as good as the first one! Sometimes when restaurants open a second or multiple locations, I find that the quality and/or concept of the original gets lost. Not in this case! The Roost is my favorite chicken place in the city and this new location serves the exact same food. It's nice that they are opposite sides of tow and this one has a pick up window. Also this location is easily accessible by public transportation, unlike the original. I have gotten the biscuit sandwiches and the chicken dinners, and it's all amazing. I've been to Nashville and I dare say this chicken is better than the hot chicken I've had there. But that's just my opinion. No matter what chicken dish you get, make sure to try the peach cobbler or bread pudding. They are equally as good as the chicken! read more

Caviar delivers from the location on Milwaukee to my place, so I ordered a house style chicken biscuit sandwich, macaroni and cheese, and two more biscuits. The chicken sandwich was very good. It was well seasoned, the flavors were balanced, and I really enjoyed it, as well as all of those biscuits lol. All places will give you a choice of 4-5 heat levels for your chicken....from plain fried chicken to XXX. Roost will give you the extra crispy chicken that you want and the flavor. Roost is on target with their chicken, but the days I don't want chicken the $3 biscuits are WORTH the $3. I'm buying 6 biscuits next time. Have been driving past for awhile and meaning to stop in. Today I swung through on a whim. I got the regular house chicken sandwich on a biscuit, Mac and cheese and peach cobbler. I think they were really short-staffed as there were 2 guys in the kitchen and 1 at the register on a Saturday at noon (they did call out to welcome everyone who came in though). My food took around 20 minutes to come and by that time I had to ask to have it boxed up because my dining companion had to leave. There wasn't a huge sense of urgency and while they did have a lot of orders and maybe needed to slow down to assure they got it all right---I couldn't even flag down the register guy to tell him to box it because his back was to us filling orders. The chicken sandwich was really good (great biscuit, huge tender piece of chicken), Mac and cheese was fine enough as an included side but the cobbler I could skip. I did get an end piece but when I flipped it over it was 1 slice of peach under an entire corner of cake. Bummer. Maybe crushed peaches would distribute better? I'll come by and try it again--maybe for breakfast. Hope they fix the cobbler because I was really excited to see that on the menu. The takeout containers for the Mac and cheese could be a bit smaller so it doesn't spread out so much and air out. Ahhhh...great chicken! We got the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich last weekend, and I can still taste the deliciousness of it. I loved the pickles and slaw on top, but I have learned my lesson and will get it on a bun next time. The biscuit just crumbles too much. I will get that as a side instead b/c it was still very good. I liked the Chipotle Ranch sauce whereas, my husband kicked it up even further with the Habanero BBQ. Very small place - with only about six countertop spots. There is a unique menu which is organized by how you're having your chicken, ie. chicken tenders, boneless breast in a sandwich format or bone-in done in a combo hookup. Then there's if you like white meat or dark meat, and how you want it seasoned consisting of three degrees of hotness. And let me tell guy you, this is darn good chicken. I had a bone-in combo with a buttered biscuit that would make me ignore any high cholesterol concerns, if I had them. The meal also came with mac n' cheese which was chunky, fresh and delicious. This corner spot is tiny - definitely geared towards takeout. It is an eight-seater, with four facing outside, and four facing the kitchen. It takes about 20 minutes to prepare your chicken, so you'd better not be on the edge of collapse when you arrive (or better yet, have your stretcher bearer call ahead). But the wait is worth it for the food, that much I can tell you. I've had a Nashville hot sandwich at the Budlong, and "The Ali" that I had at Roost (biscuit, pickles, runny yolk egg) was a little more enjoyable. I was offered honey as a condiment, and the sweet and spicy combo was magical. Service was pretty good, warming up after the food arrived. I hate providing bad reviews but I read reviews in making my selections so I must be honest. My meal was not good at all and I can't recommend them. My fried chicken had a burnt taste as if it was fried in grease with burnt remains. The Mac and cheese was okay but heavy thick pasta gives it a dense taste even though it is well seasoned. The cucumber coleslaw has the vinegar taste as opposed to a sweet slaw... which was okay if you're into that. My first bite of the biscuit had a strong salty taste. I'll definitely be going back to try Nashville hot as the spicy was not spicy to me. You then pick if you want white meat, dark meat, or mixed. I went with a mix. The chicken was as succulent and juicy as you'd expect from a quality chicken joint. The chicken was perfectly breaded and used the right amount of seasoning. As far as sides, I went with the creamy mac and cheese and the roasted green beans. The beans were cooked in vinegar based sauce which provided acidity to the meal. I'm glad I paired it with the creaminess of the mac and cheese for balance. Next time I'm going to try the homemade chips and cucumber cole slaw. Overall, I still like Honey Butter Fried Chicken better, but this spot is definitely a great spot for fried chicken if you're in the neighborhood. read more
