Literally it's in the name, just get a chicken and rice plate I needed to use my class pass credits or else they were going to go away and be wasted, so I found this place on there and decided to order the marina and the original! The marina 7.5/10- they use brown rice I believe and chicken and cucumbers with their brown sauce (and I got scallion sauce on the side) this tasted so healthy, I felt pretty good eating it. Although the chicken is lacking in flavor, once you dip in the brown sauce and scallion sauce, it tastes a lot better! love that it also comes with chicken soup The original 9/10- ok this is more like hainan chicken rice. The chicken rice was so flavorful and it was glistening! This rice paired so well with the chicken and I drenched my chicken in the scallion sauce Definitely a clean plate if that is something you are looking for! read more

Foremost, every time I visit this location I've received great customer service. The staff greet you and seem very friendly. The place is clean and has outdoor seating. The chairs are colorful so it feels vibrant. I ordered The Original and Popcorn chicken for pickup. The Original had a few dry bits, but I dipped it in the ginger sauce so gave it so much more flavor, so of the two I think the popcorn chicken was my favorite. There's a hint of lime flavor with the popcorn chicken, something that was new to me. A side of lime aioli is included as well for dipping. Highly recommend visiting this place. read more

I ordered work lunch from here through a company delivery service. I ordered a mini vegetarian, which is supposed to come with tofu and vegetables, but they did not give me the vegetables. They also randomly gave me the ginger scallion sauce instead of the default KMG sauce, and I did not really enjoy the ginger scallion sauce. The vegetarian broth was not very good, tasted oddly oily and not very flavorful. Tofu and rice were nothing special. Thai sriracha hot sauce was quite good. I would be willing to give this place another try in the future, I suspect the KMG sauce is actually pretty good, but unfortunately I did not get to try today. read more

Instead of trying a Rooster and Rice close to my office in the OC, I decided to try one almost 400 miles away near my hotel in Santa Clara. Like others have said, the chicken is kind and bland, and a little dry. The ginger scallion sauce was good and was a good condiment for the chicken. The portion was pretty good sized. It's a good place if your hotel is close by. read more

I was in the area and decided to try their poached chicken. We've been ordering from a different chain since we discovered the dish, and wanted to try Rooster & Rice version. The chicken is more bland by itself compared to the other one where we've been getting. It also felt overcooked and dryer. The sauces are great. It saved the experience. Their pricing is a bit higher by around a dollar for the items. They do have other dishes and sides on the menu that might be worth a try in case I'm around the area again. They do have only a couple of tables indoors for waiting. But they have a nice covered outdoor patio that's relaxing and just lowkey ambiance. read more

Original doesn't come with ginger scallion sauce, I wish I had known that when ordering. Garlic soy isn't bad though. Soup however was kinda sour and didn't taste clean or clear like you'd expect. I've been to rooster rice but different locations and had no issues. It's been a few years and thought I'd try it again craving chicken and rice. Definitely had a greater experience this time around! I ordered two originals, one with skin and one without. I do like that you can customize it a bit - for example, no skin, substitute sauce, type of rice, only chicken breast or thigh, etc. Didn't really have any complaints about either one - it was prepared and put together nicely and had a good amount of rice and chicken and I was satisfied! Also, the ginger and scallion sauce is a must for me! I'm glad I remembered to substitute it this time. It comes with a broth which is flavorful and nicely adds to the meal. read more

I was looking for a place for lunch in Valley Fair and decided to go with Rooster & Rice. I love Khao Mun Gai/Hainan Chicken Rice in general, so I was excited to finally give them a try. We came to this eatery because it had a short line (almost everything else had a 30 min wait). We ended up getting the Original, Tom Yum Thai fries and the chicken wings. The chicken itself? SO SO GOOD! You won't find dry chicken here! The sauces are pretty good too. My favorite was the pineapple habenero that came with the chicken wings. I ordered the Original with just chicken thighs (additional $1), and added extra cucumbers since the option was there. I thought the dish as pretty filling and a good portion for the price. I enjoyed washing down the meal with the chicken brown. I also tried the Cutlet, which is a panko crust chicken thigh. The chicken was pretty crispy, and the portion was good enough. I usually order from Chicken Meets Rice but I found ROOSTER & Rice on Door Dash so decided to switch it up! I got the original plate with fragrant rice & all breast meat. My favorite chicken and rice restaurant!! Even though Rooster & Rice is a chain, they have amazing chicken and rice. Food: I always order the Original (Breast & thigh with skin, fragrant chicken rice, cucumber, cilantro, KMG sauce), but substitute for all breast and no skin. Chicken is never dry and it comes with a chicken broth soup on the side. The sauce is so flavorful, and the meal is filling. I don't feel gross after eating this which is a plus. Service: Service is decent! The line wasn't long when we came, but they have a self-service kiosk to order at. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I have had them disregard my no skin or all breast requests before, but this does not happen every time. Pricing: $ Good price for lots of food. I normally get 2 meals out of it. Ambiance: A lot of seating and not too packed compared to other places in the mall. It is definitely the best food in Valley Fair if you don't want to wait. Tables were clean. Parking: Park in the Winchester parking garage for closest parking! Will definitely be back to this location. :) read more

Yum! It's no Portland's Nong's Khao Man Gai, but it will do to satisfy the craving when you are in the Bay Area. I always order the classic #1, and it's good. Comes with a little cup of broth that is flavorful and adds a nice side to the chicken and rice. The sauce that comes with it is tasty too--I like to dip the chicken and cucumber in it and mix a little into the rice. I've tried other chicken & rice places in the Bay Area, but this is the closest I've found to Nong's in Portland. read more

Went here because the neighboring food inside the mall were quite busy. Ordered on an iPad, the food took a little while to come out even though there were only 1-2 other customers. I think this is tastier than I expected. Hat Yai Thai Fried Chicken was good. I wish there were cucumbers or greens of some sort to balance out the heartiness. The Khao Tom Gai soup was pretty salty. I really love rooster and rice but for some reason, every time I ask for no skin or any sort of modifications, it seems to be ignored or taken very lightly. This time I asked for no skin for one order and both our orders came with skin. We also asked for extra cilantro but the amount looks the same in both. This is probably the 5th time this has happened and not just for this location but all their other ones. Also not sure why the sauces are different. One is the soybean sauce that it usually comes with and the other one is the traditional ginger oil sauce. I love the food but just disappointed with the service and lack of quality with prepping it to our customizations. read more

I love ginger scallion Hainanese chicken! So when I stumbled upon this casual chicken restaurant inside the mall, I had to try it. I ordered two minis to share with kids for a light bite. It was a hit, especially the chicken soup. A mini comes with a smaller portion of chicken with chicken infused rice, cucumbers, and some signature sauce. The cost is about $10. The chicken is boneless, juicy and soft. The sauce is delicious and goes well when you mix it with the rice too. On any cold day, I'd love to order a large broth to drink. It's delicious! read more

Chicken and rice is one of my go-to comfort meals. The closer location to me, in north SJ closed awhile ago so I rarely make it here anymore. Since my hubby was at the mall, I asked him to pick me up some lunch from here. For $15, the Original (#1) comes with dark and white meat, some chicken skin, over the chicken rice and some slices of cucumbers. Also there's a soy ginger sauce. I usually don't like or need the sauce with Hainan or KMG chicken. But this sauce was pretty tasty and I've had a knack for all things ginger right now. Oh and a cup of chicken broth. The portion size was just right for me. I finished it up real quick and was fully satisfied and not too full. The chicken was boneless and tasty and tender and flavorful. I ate the white meat first, as I prefer the dark meat. There was a bit of tendon and cartilage on the chicken meat, which doesn't bother me, but FYI, if you're turned off by that. The rice is also super yummy. I need to learn how to make chicken broth rice. Haha. And the cucumbers add a fresh and crunchy texture to the whole meal. The chicken broth is slightly oily but goes well with the whole meal. Overall a very satisfying meal. read more

Came here after church and they just open so everything was super clean and fresh. We had The original - thigh, the Hai Yat - deep fried tom yum flavor leg. I also ordered two chicken skin order and they made fresh for me along with my Hai Yat order. The tom yum flavor fries is okay for the adults but the kids love it. The ladies here are so nice. 3.5 stars I was always a big fan of rooster & rice (so much so, that I probably got it TOO much when I first discovered it). There are definitely differences between when I first ate it to this last time, despite being different locations. I noticed the sauce, while still being quite delicious, is definitely thinner than before (on the verge of being watered down). The fact that it is still addictively delicious says alot about the sauce. The chicken is still tender and flavorful, but the rice seems to be soggier than before. ALL THAT BEING SAID, I'd still happily come back to any rooster and rice location...but it seems like they are focusing on maximizing how far their ingredients last. read more

Came here for quick lunch. The food is generally good but soup (chicken broth) was too salty and portion was smaller than I thought. I wished they would give more veggies (have to pay extra for it..) I ordered mixed of chicken breast and thigh, thigh was tender and good but breast was too dry. The sauce was tasty with ginger & garlic soy flavor. Chicken rice was what I liked the best from this place, but again portion is small. You order using tablet and it's all self service. Came on weekday lunch so had plenty of seating too. I haven't had this chicken dish since Covid, I normally order in the city and saw they were at Valley Fair Shopping Center. Located in the Valley Fair mall, next to Ramen Nagi and all the other new food places that recently popped up. I was thinking to get some ramen but the line was too long :) I ordered the #1 with chicken thigh upgrade ($1 extra). Food came out pretty quickly, and it was good. The sauce was delicious, chicken was prepared well, and reasonable portion size. I wish they have an option to order without skin (like Chicken Meets Rice does), but it's just minor inconvenience. With the number of food offerings available in the mall now, it's hard to say if I would come back. Definitely a solid option though! read more

One of my favorite go-to places for lunch. I get The Original which comes with the breast/thigh chicken with fragrant Jasmine rice, with a side of some ginger peanut mix sauce and chicken broth. The sauce definitely amplifies the taste of everything, which is what I enjoy the most about it. For $15, you get a nutritious meal that keeps you full almost all day. There is limited seating here as it's more of a takeout place in the mall, but can seat about 3 groups of people and some single seating as well. Today, the chicken was extra good - a nice balance of juicy and tender. The reason I give 4 stars is due to the inconsistency of the chicken, sometimes it can be extra dry while other times are like today where it's perfectly cooked. Dropped by here in the mall on a Saturday evening when all the restaurants was full. We ordered The miso udon and the chicken katsu curry. The udon was mediocre, possibly a little overcooked. The miso soup had good flavor. Chicken katsu was quite moist with a good crunchy crust and the curry was quite flavorful. I would recommend this dish. My favorite was the option to add green onion and tempura bits to the dishes. They also had fresh ginger and spicy flakes. Service was decent. read more
