This wasn't my first encounter with Chicken Meets Rice as I had visited their other location in Santa Clara. We really liked it then, so it was an easy choice for a quick dinner before our flight out. The major difference between the two experiences was the actual restaurant itself and what it had to offer. This location is much larger and spacious than the Santa Clara location, which feels more like a takeout spot. We ordered at the kiosk, and it's a pretty easy menu to order from. We each got our own Chicken Box, whether it was the Fried Chicken Box with Chicken Rice for $14.99 or the Hainan Chicken Box with Chicken Rice for $14.99. My absolute favorite sauce to get is the Ginger Scallion Oil. There's a self service water station and we took a seat. We were surprised that our food was brought out to us, as this was definitely not the case at the other one. (I'm not sure if it was because they weren't too busy and the order was obviously for us, or because the owners were working. And that's another thing, I really appreciated seeing the owners working the actual line. They were packing the food up and doing all the work, just like any other employee would.) I was pleasantly surprised to see our meal served in actual dish ware with real cutlery! Wow. This really just made the dinner that much better. And it was easy with clean up as they had bins near the trashcan so you can put your dirty dishes away. (This practice is so much more efficient than using disposable containers for dining in. I, personally, do not enjoy eating out of takeout containers or using horrible plastic cutlery.) And the food just presented a lot better not crammed into some box! We usually hit the one by Levi stadium, but tried this location after gassing up at the Costco one day. At least at the time and day we went, parking was a breeze, although as part of entering the lot you have to contend with the Costco bound cars entering. Same quick service as the other location. I'm so happy that Chicken Meets Rice has opened a location closer to me. Until now, I've had to drive over 25 minutes to get to one. This new spot is conveniently located at the corner of Coleman Ave and Brokaw Rd. That said, getting into the plaza can be a bit tricky due to heavy traffic from the nearby freeways and Costco. There are two self-service kiosks for ordering, and the process is user-friendly. I ordered my usual the Hainan chicken box with dark meat with ginger scallion sauce. It came with the standard side soup, and a nice bonus at this location, a side salad. The meal was consistent with what I've had at other CMR locations. If you've never tried their Thai Ginger Soy sauce, do yourself a favor and give it a try as it is incredible and pairs excellently with the delicate flavor of the Chicken Rice and poached Hainanese-style chicken. When you order the Hainan chicken you have a choice of light or dark meat along with whether you want the skin left on or not. The choice is yours, but I'll tell you now that there is really only one correct answer if you want the best experience and the most flavor, and that's to go with dark meat and skin on. The chicken and rice is served with a little side salad along with a bowl of chicken broth so it ends up feeling like quite the complete meal and I was left absolutely stuffed and satisfied after my latest visit for lunch. We tried the Crispy Salt & Pepper Wings for the first time which were pretty solid as well, and came with an unexpected mouth-numbing tingle as a result of the Sichuan peppers they use. The wings are served with some fried Fresno Chili slices so make sure you can handle the heat before you accidently go biting into one of those. This particular location has quite a lot of indoor seating so feel free to dine-in, but they also have a good online ordering system for takeout if you want to grab it and go. Super happy there's a new CMR near me. I frequent the Tasman location, but having this Coleman one right by Costco is great. They just opened their doors today 12/30/24 and are offering a free side of papaya salad. With the new territory also comes some growing pains. My simple two box order of the Hainan chicken rice took 15 mins to come out with a relatively low queue. Not terribly slow, but significantly longer than the other location. They were also out of wings just two hours into service. Ambiance is nice fast-casual, great for a quick bite. Spacious, enough seating, bright. Toast tablet ordering system, staff is dialed in. The portion sizes appear to be larger than what I've gotten at the Santa Clara location in the past. The white chicken was okay but the grill chicken was not good. Real Hainan chicken use white boil chicken or deep fried roast chicken. The green onion, ginger sauce and chilli sauce were good.
