shrimp burger with coleslaw and mashed sweet potatoes
    Lauren S.

This was our first time visiting this local favorite spot. Something I noticed right away was the booths were a bit worn and I quickly sunk into the seat. Our waitress was very animated and attentive. We tried the hush puppies which were very bland. For entrees we got a shrimp burger which was tasty but not much shrimp on a big bun. The mashed sweet potato was not something I'd order again but the slaw was tasty. And blackened snapper with seasonal veg and red potatoes.

This is a solid seafood place with very reasonable drink prices. My NA Chardonnay was only $4! Our server Chantell was amazing and not just because she complimented how nicely I cleaned off the oysters Rockafelllers! She was very attentive and friendly with our table. And she did very well with our custom orders. The food is decent. I split a swordfish blackened with my husband, and we also had green beans and a side of grilled ahrimp to go with my salad. The shrimp didn't taste as grilled as I was hoping, and was more buttery. But the swordfish was nice and flavorful. I also sampled some of my other guests entrees and they were tasty as well. My favorite was the cedar plank salmon which in hindsight I wish I would have gotten, but I'll know that for next time. I would recommend this place, especially if you're in the mood for some inexpensive drinks. Unfortunately I'm not much of a drinker, but it's good to see us NA folks don't get left behind.

Our server Chantel took great care of us. Party of 5. 2 Lobster rolls 2 Scallop dishes 1 Grilled Grouper 1 Peel and eat shrimp We had a lovely back round table away from the noise of the restaurant which allowed our hearing impaired folks to enjoy conversations! The food- Overall we went with 4 stars The highlights were the Grilled Grouper was cooked perfectly and the grilled asparagus was nice and crispy not overcooked, the peel and eat shrimp was also very good however I did not taste the bay seasoning that was mentioned. Our entire party are New England transplants so the Lobster rolls are something we are as a rule particular about, we look for light mayo, almost non existent a grilled and buttered roll and a nice serving size. These were very heavy on the mayo, and a pretty small portion size, and it had lettuce and celery...Theroll was grilled nice and the flavor was on point however. Both scallop dishes were drowned in the butter sauce which was excessive and ended up being a detractor to the dish, more isn't always better, both of those agreed it was good enough to return but would try another menu item next visit. We had a good time, the service we received from Chantel was great we will return and I would rate this a "Safe Bet" prices are reasonable and the food is pretty good!

It was PACKED when we showed up (on a Thursday around 6pm). 99% of the customers were senior citizens so I was a bit concerned. However, the food was out of this world!! We waited about 30 minutes for our table and it was worth it. The lobster roll, coco lada shrimp, crab legs and island shrimp were all 10/10. Our waitress was Chantell and she was an absolute dream.

Oh my goodness! This past Wenesday my mother and I had the stuffed Lobster!!! So good!!! The serverer was on point!

I LOVE the fried coconut-crusted tilapia with the fantastic cranberry-horseradish sauce on the side. My new favorite. Sweet potato mash is delicious. Steamed green beans perfect, and I appreciate my server telling me I can request it without the added garlic butter.

The crab cake was perfectly seasoned, the English muffin was toasted perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was also perfect. The cheesy grits were good as well! I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. My guest also loved her meal, ( Salmon Benedict) the salmon was perfectly done without being dry, the eggs were a little beyond poached but that's okay. The home fried potatoes were golden brown and an excellent addition to the meal. The ambiance is super chill which is surprising considering how good the food is. The chicken and waffles were exceptional as well. The four chicken strips with tender, juicy and well seasoned placed on top of the golden brown waffle which was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The butter and maple syrup was butter made this waffle an 8/10.

We chose to sit outside, and even with the Florida summer heat, the overhead fans kept the patio comfortable, making for a beautiful evening. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive throughout our meal. We loved the complimentary warm bread served with seasoned olive oil--it was a huge hit with the kids before our food even arrived. We started with the calamari, which was perfectly crisp on the outside, tender on the inside, and served with two delicious dipping sauces. It disappeared quickly! For our entrées, the coconut shrimp was outstanding. The shrimp were large, coated in a crunchy toasted coconut breading, and paired perfectly with the orange blossom honey marmalade. The creamy garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, and roasted tomatoes rounded out a delicious plate. We also ordered the crab cakes, which were packed with lump crab meat, perfectly seared, and complemented by the Creole mustard aioli. Our kids were just as impressed! The kids' fish and chips meal came with a surprisingly generous portion of flaky fish, crispy fries, and fresh fruit, making it an excellent value. Our other child ordered the adult cheeseburger entrée and couldn't stop talking about how amazing it was. It was thick, juicy, perfectly cooked, topped with melted cheddar, and served on a soft bun with crisp lettuce and tomato. Every dish was beautifully presented, fresh, and full of flavor. Combined with the relaxing outdoor atmosphere and exceptional service, Guppy's delivered a fantastic dining experience. It's easy to see why it's such a favorite on Indian Rocks Beach, and we'll definitely be back!

That's changed since moving to the Gulf Coast of Florida, where the fish at the local restaurant today was probably swimming yesterday. My "go-to" seafood now is a grouper sandwich which I order blackened but NOT fried. I've sampled grouper sandwiches from many local dining establishments, but my favorite is from "Carvor's Fish House" A couple of important notes: 1) Carvor's is only open for LUNCH. Their hours vary, so you'll want to check the website, but they typically close at FIVE PM, with the last order accepted at FOUR PM. 2) Carvor's has NO inside dining The patio is tree-shaded with extra umbrellas but if it's really hot, you may be uncomfortable. 3) Carvor's has COUNTER SERVICE. From the moment I saw the seafood case, everything looked ridiculously fresh, and that freshness carried straight onto the plate. Then I noticed the MICHELIN plaque outside the building and thought, wait a minute... THIS place has Michelin recognition? Apparently, yes! The Tides has earned a place in the MICHELIN Guide, which suddenly made a whole lot of sense after tasting the food. That salmon was seriously some of the best I've ever had. Fresh, beautifully prepared and so clean tasting that it didn't need a bunch of heavy sauces or nonsense piled on top. It felt like one of those rare meals that is indulgent because it's delicious, but you also walk away thinking, I actually ate something good for me. We made the mistake of trying to go on a Saturday evening. Shoot for off hours instead, as the wait was pretty long. In the dip trio, we absolutely loved the fried green tomatoes and the pimento cheese (I don't like tajjn but it worked extremely well here). Neither of us was in love with the smoked fish, but if you're a big smoked fish person you might like it. We also loved the arancini and the romesco sauce they came with. The entrees we were honestly disappointed in. The grouper in the po boy tasted dry, and the snapper was nothing to write home about. It must be difficult for a restaurant to live up to the greatly heightened expectations of a Michelin designation. The location and staff were great. We didn't leave delighted but I would definitely come back to try more items.
