Tried this new spot for takeout. Food was ready quickly and still hot once we got home. Overall, I think it's a nice addition to the area. I've been excited to try Rooster's since the sign first went up announcing that a Nashville hot chicken place was coming to Montclair. Hot chicken is becoming a trend, which means that it's unfortunately done poorly by a lot of chain restaurants. Rooster's does hot chicken right. The menu at Rooster's is fairly limited at launch. They have chicken fingers and sliders. For sides, they have fries and mac and cheese. The limited menu may be a detraction for some, but there's something to be said about doing one thing and and doing it really well. I'm sure the menu will expand in the future to include more sides (it would be nice to be able to choose something that somewhat resembles a vegetable), but for the time being the chicken is carrying the menu just fine. I had the five piece chicken fingers and a small side of Mac and cheese. The chicken fingers are huge and come with fries, so I would have been more than full with the three pieces. I had the hot version, and in the store they were giving out samples of the extra hot (pretty rude to make me stand around trying to look tough while I'm sweating from the tiniest piece of chicken). If you can't handle spice, you'll probably want to stick towards the mild end of the line, as this chicken definitely is hot. The mac and cheese was fine, but I'll probably skip it in the future. The only minor complaint I have is that they stapled my to go box closed, which didn't feel necessary as the box was secure on its own. If they need to secure it more, tape would have been a better choice. I feel like it would have been easy for the staple to fall in with my food, and I'm trying to keep it so that my body is just full of micro-plastics, not metal. I see people complaining about a lack of parking, which means my secret parking spot in Montclair has not been discovered yet. I'll be keeping it that way, thanks. The staff are very nice and welcoming which certainly sets the experience off well. I passed by so I was unaware they did not offer chicken on the bone but only boneless varieties (a minor let down). I ended up getting the loaded fries (not sure why it does not explain what's included, maybe this is their way of getting customers to converse instead of looking at our phones) that has a chicken finger cut up over Mac and cheese and fries of course. You can choose a variety of spice levels, I chose the mild which had a light kick as expected, can also get sauces on the side. Food was good helping for two ppl if you just want something quick/light, chx had substance so even though it's one piece, you get a decent amount out of it. Overall store is small, a couple of table tops and chairs against the window facing Tacoria so you get tempted to buy tacos right after (genius plan for the business owners to advertise that way jk). My nephew had the chicken & waffles & it seemed the waffle was fried as it was very crunchy. I waited nearly 1 hour from the promise time to get the food and I was so starving at that point anything was going to satisfy me. Those working were trying to keep up with demand but the ordering system needs quite a lot of work. The promise time was only 10 mins post order which should be updated based on demand and busy times/orders currently waiting. This is a new location but needs to up their hospitality in order to meet customer demand. As far as the food goes, I thought it was good but honestly I was so hungry waiting for the food, I was likely biased and could've eaten anything. The location is nicely tucked into a corner in Montclair and it can get a lot of foot traffic and is nice with big glass windows but the spot is nicely decorated a good amount of indoor seating. I am a major fried chicken fan. This is the some of the most competently fried chicken I've ever had. Even delivered, it is hot, crispy, fully cooked and juicy, with a durable crust. Freshly cooked, it's a joy. This is super hard. I am not aware of a single other restaurant in the area that gets this right, including other new hot chicken restaurants and certain Urban chicken joints in the area. Most deliver chicken which is overcooked, soggy on the bottom and completely falling apart -- chicken which isn't worth the money. Rooster's is delicious and it's a value, besides. The spice level is legit. Naked is tasty. Mild is flavorful with a slight heat a bit after a while. Hot is quite hot, so much that I couldn't finish three of them. That's a good thing -- sometimes I crave a challenge! The fries are great. Cole slaw is lovely and light, though the free portion is very small. The Rooster sauce is a mustard based remoulade. It's good, but I'm not over the moon about it. Would love to have something that better complimented the spice, like a cool, dill-heavy ranch. I'd love to see the Rooster menu expand -- possibly a vegetarian "chicken" option for my veggie daughter, and some additional sides like black eyed peas or red beans. Finally had the pleasure of trying out this new hot spot! Had the regular hot tenders and slider and both were DELICIOUS! Heat level was just right on! The chicken is cooked to perfection and was perfectly crispy! (Roosters sauce was bomb!) Their chicken and waffles is a must! Would recommend to try it with their "hot" or even "extra hot" to compliment the sweetness and warmth of the waffle beautifully. I ordered the Medium Heat slider combo which came with French fries, a butter brioche slider roll, pickles, Rooster sauce, and a chicken tender. (Usually comes with cole slaw as well but I don't like Cole slaw). The service was standard and fairly quick. The place is pretty big inside and has an ample amount of seating available. First and foremost, the fries were really really good! Crispy, crunchy and all the good stuff you ask for a fry. The tender sandwich was good as well. The medium heat was fairly light in spice.
