My first time in years to the food court! I was there to meet friends from out of town. While waiting for them, I did a complete walk around and was immediately drawn to Roots and Greens. I told my friends that I wanted to try their food, and we all ended up going there. There were two young professionals working around 6:30PM on Friday, December 12. They were super helpful and patient in explaining the process to us -- we couldn't have asked for better service! I had a regular order with mixed greens and rice, topped with hummus, beets, and nuts & seeds. I got the roasted veggies for my entrée, and tzatziki on the side. Everything was fresh and super tasty!! It's a little pricey, but then again, their "buffet" offerings definitely had something for everyone. The portions were very generous, so much so that I saved half of my order for my breakfast this morning and let me tell you, everything held up wonderfully. This plate was worth the price. Good healthy food. Regular plate $15.99. Salad, rice, Hummus, pesto pasta, seeds/cranberry, falafel, and pita. My only issue is none of the items were seasoned well. Everything was bland tasting but the dressings were tasty. Without the dressing the flavor would be flat. I was especially disappointed with the lack of flavor with the Hummus and Falafel. Add some salt in the recipe and I would give a 5 star. But I understand some people can't eat alot of salt so it's ok. Maybe give 2 options of dressings rather than just 1. Got Caesar and Yogurt Herb Ranch and both were great and suprisingly even work together (a bit of sweet and salty), will probably just ask for a little more next time. My side of Falafel and Tsasikiki were not greasy at and a bit too garlicky for my taste but I'm sure others will love it. I work at the Ala Moana shopping center and have been waiting for food vendor that caters to my need for healthier options. The pros are the options are healthier than other food court restaurants and the portions are generous. The con, the quality is inconsistent. Went one day and was impressed, loved it, went another time ordered the same thing and it was not so good. Wilted lettuce, grisly steak chunks. I'm not saying don't go but, quality varies. Also I think they could benefit from roping the line off a bit, you order to the right and move down to the sauces, entrees etc. While ordering people will walk up and stand right in front of you to look at the foods slowing the process. I've been here four times and my score is based on consistency of service and food. I like to order the yellow rice option with greens and beets, boiled eggs, and sweet potato with Mediterranean steak and Greek dressing. I really like that they have gluten free labels so I can make my decisions by looking at their wall menu. Depending who is helping you, the amount of food differs. The first time my steak was tender and flavorful. The next few times it was okay. This last time the steak was really tough and chewy but even more upsetting was the experience I had trying to place an order. I stood in line. The Asian worker was already helping someone and I was next. The Caucasian person behind the counter turned to look at me and then turned back to make salads. So I was thinking okay, she's making salads. So I stand there waiting for the Asian girl to finish with her customer and I see some pre made items displayed. I wandered over to look at them and when I turned to the right, the other lady was helping another Caucasian customer. There was also another person in line. So what did I do? I went to the back of the line figuring she didn't know I was in line. So now the Asian girl is available and she helps the guy in front of me. The other lady finishes with her customer and I'm next, or so I thought. She looked in my direction and went straight to the salads. So at this point I have been refused to be served by this Caucasian lady twice. So when the Asian girl began to take my order I asked for the manager. She couldn't procure one so I said I wanted to share my experience standing here trying to order. She apologized and said the worker was new. I was a little upset at this point and said "she's new and only serves white people? ". So the person I'm talking about is basically looking at me at this point and says nothing. She doesn't say she's sorry that she didn't see me or that she was busy. She didn't deny it. Just stared at me and went back to her salad. More training needs to be done in this case so further situations like this can be avoided. read more
