I've only eaten at Orchids twice for dinner, once for my birthday 2 years ago and just this past weekend for my husband and I's anniversary. Both times made me realize that I need to dine here more! Orchids is located at the Halekulani Hotel on the first floor beneath La Mer. It's an open air restaurant with views of the ocean - very romantic and intimate, perfect for a date night. The menu has both a tasting menu and an ala carte. We chose to do the ala carte and ordered: Prime Beef Filet Carpaccio: This was hands down my favorite dish of the night. The truffle aioli was so delicious and paired perfectly with the carpaccio. Frutti Di Mare "Seafood Medley": I love anything seafood, so naturally I loved this dish. Seafood was fresh and tasty. It was also seasoned lightly so it actually went well with the rich carpaccio. Keahole Lobster Tagliatelle: The server let me know that this dish does have some spice- but I would say the spice was perfect for me! I also loved the taste of curry. I ate the entire pasta which I usually don't do but this was delicious! Also, this is listed under "Mid Course" but this was the perfect size entree for me. Veal Ossobuco Milanese: Wow this was a very rich dish, but my husband said that it was surprisingly easy to eat and super yummy. Halekulani's Signature Coconut Cake: The best cake ever. I'm biased because this was also our wedding cake, but come on. It's fluffy, light, and perfectly sweet. Lilikoi Mango and Acai Berry Sorbet: Their sorbets are made in house and are so delicious! Today we celebrated my birthday and retirement at Orchids for breakfast. The restaurant is situated along the Waikiki shoreline with a beautiful vantage point for Diamondhead. The servers were so attentive and accommodating, and the food second to none. Our server Tony really went the distance at making our visit a memorable one. I've heard wonderful things about their Sunday all you can eat brunch. I was lucky to get a last minute reservation. However most people book months in advanced. We came on time for our reservation, but it took them 20 minutes to seat us. The seafood, poke, and sushi here is excellent. They also have a carving station and crostini station with amazing spreads and cheeses. The desserts were also great. Considering the price $125, I would expect slightly better service. After the amuse bouche, started with the Yellow Fin Ahi Tartar - yum! Wish it was a bigger portion as we liked it so much. The branzino was served and so good - crispy skin and the delicate. The seabass was substituted with Mahi Mahi - very meaty. Seems so simple but probably my fave - the tomato soup! The tenderloin was cooked perfectly and very tender. They offer a wide variety of dishes--one of the most extensive brunch spreads on the island. Overall, the food quality is very high. The only exception is the sushi. Is the sushi bad? No--it's still good. That said, buffet-style sushi on the island is rarely exceptional, mainly because it's not prepared by a dedicated Japanese sushi chef. As a result, the sushi is solid but not a highlight compared with the other offerings. One small suggestion: it would be nice if the portions per serving could be slightly more generous, especially when requesting specific items. Lastly, since crab is included, having crab-specific forks or tools available would make the experience even better. I had to fight to not get over full. So good! They also give you some champagne (2 glasses each) or cider if that's how you roll. As all good buffets should do, they also have ice cream. We enjoyed everything we had from crab legs, sushi/poke, ramen, different carved meats, eggs Benedict etc. it was enjoyable and the service was spot on. All the staff was very attentive and kind. There are several steps and/or ramps around the place depending on where you're seated. We were able to bring in our stroller next to our table in the lower outdoor seating areas (steps only, no ramp). Just fyi~ Overall, good meal and lovely service. Would I ever come back? It was my birthday celebration dinner, and I had high expectations for this place since I love Lewers Lounge and House Without A Key, also located in the same hotel. We had a reservation right around sunset and were seated at a lovely table close to the ocean. A hostess mentioned she'd bring a small chair for my purse, but she never came back -- not a big deal, but a small miss in service. We started with their famous Mai Tai and a complimentary small bite of goat cheese and focaccia. The appetizer, Kona Kampachi Rosé, was fresh, and the slightly tangy sauce added a refreshing balance. For the middle course, we ordered the Short Rib Ravioli. We expected the short rib to be inside the pasta, but it turned out that the spinach was inside and large chunks of short rib were placed on top. At that point, we realized we should've gone with the Sea Urchin Tagliolini instead, especially since our main dish was a Porterhouse Steak. The Fiorentina Steak (Porterhouse Steak), which we requested medium rare to medium, unfortunately came out more than halfway well done. When our waiter came by, we mentioned the issue. The manager approached us but spoke in a whisper, which made it difficult to hear what he was saying. He offered to remove the appetizer from the bill and provide complimentary desserts and drinks, but never offered to replace the steak. We really just wanted the steak cooked properly, but I didn't want to ruin my birthday dinner further, so we accepted the offer and moved on. Overall, the experience was disappointing, especially for a special occasion. I don't think I'll be returning to Orchids, and my once-considered visit to La Mer is now off the list. It goes without saying that Orchids hosts one of the best Sunday brunch buffets in Honolulu. But did you know that dinner at Orchids is an equally delicious affair with more emphasis placed on quality over quantity? If you said "no," you wouldn't be alone. Until we recently dined at Orchids for a family birthday, we wouldn't have known either. The usual suspects for a celebratory splurge (e.g. MW, Hy's, 53 by the Sea, etc.) had garnered less-than-perfect reviews from various relatives on recent outings, so my task was finding something comparable with a menu sure to please some picky palates. Given the number of reviews for brunch, this review will focus on the restaurant's dinner experience. Orchids describes its evening menu as coastal Italian cuisine with local ingredients--a reflection of the executive chef's Italian origins. When possible, their meat and produce are sourced from farms across the archipelago, and pasta is made in-house daily. Amongst our choices, the standouts were the Kona Kampachi Rosé, Short Rib Ravioli, Lobster Tagliatelle, and Lasagnette. For dessert, Halekulani's iconic Coconut Cake is a must, and we order it whenever we have the pleasure of dining at the hotel. Although we had some very minor quibbles with food (e.g. the pairing of certain ingredients), the general consensus was quite positive, even amongst the picky eaters, and we're happy to add Orchids to our rotation of restaurants for anniversaries, birthdays, and other celebrations. We were concerned that portion sizes might be smaller than the competition after scrutinizing photos on Google and Yelp, but we were pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong: portions for the mid-courses and entrees were equivalent to what might you find at comparable upscale restaurants. The waiter even advised us that the mid-courses were substantive enough to substitute for an entree. However, for a moderately hungry person, I would still suggest ordering at least two items from the menu (i.e. an appetizer and a mid-course/entree). Keep in mind that you should expect to pay at least $100 per person--more if ordering multiple courses and drinks for the entire party. For most folks, brunch will be a better value, if only because the buffet will leave you feeling fuller at a similar price point. If you properly time your reservation, you'll likely be seated at a table with stunning views of the ocean and Diamondhead during golden hour. (The view has always been--and continues to be--one of the most memorable aspects of the restaurant.) And, depending on the date, you might enjoy music and dance from House Without a Key, the neighboring restaurant and bar. Service was impeccable, and staff went out of their way to accommodate dietary restrictions. For example, when the staff was unsure about a dessert's ingredient, they called the off-site bakery to check the ingredients. After a few minutes, they were able to get a response, even as the bakery had already closed for the day. We were impressed by the waitstaff's dedication to ensuring our wellbeing throughout the meal. Flown in from Spain - apparently their octopus is better than anything local. For dessert, The Tropics and the Coconut Cake are excellent options. I just recently visited Orchids. My fiancé and I decided to have breakfast here at the last minute so we called and they said we could walk right in. I am so happy that we decided to come here. Not only did we have an amazing view of diamond head and the ocean, but the food was so delicious! They have a nice menu selection. We ordered a plethora of dishes. We got avocado toast, steak and eggs, an egg white omelette with a side of chicken apple sausage, fresh berries, ham and cheese croissant, and fresh greens tossed in a balsamic dressing. They have fans, but the inside still opens to the outside. They have several stations: roasted meats, salads, fruit, omelets, desserts, Ramon, sushi and sashimi. The only thing I might have wanted to be different is to have warm crab legs, clams, mussels, instead of having it all chilled. They also don't offer butter, melted butter and spicy mayonnaise. We asked our waiter about butter, he brought it. But, if you don't know to ask, then you do without. They are quick with refills and bussing plates from your table. We were fortunate enough to sit outside (which I highly recommend if the weather is nice, as the inside seating looked stuffy and crowded). This review is for Sunday Brunch. Went when it opened at 9am. OMG- best meal EVER. Michelin star service. Loved all our servers, including Jed and David! Highlights were the fresh catch of the day on the ramen station (almost missed it!), all the sushi, sashimi, and poke, seafood, for me. There was also a carving station. And a table of desserts.. oh I could go on and on!!! My cousin ate a lot of crab legs!! Dessert was like another meal! We were seated near the ocean and it was very relaxing! 3.5 Went here for friend's birthday. Table has a nice view of the beach but unfortunately didn't catch sunset as it was already dark and our reso was at 6pm. Service was great but felt rushed, didn't offer if we want a second drink. Food was mediocre for the price. Menu was limited due to large party. This review is for the Sunday brunch buffet. This is currently one of my favorite buffets on Oahu. First off, the food selection is diverse AND delicious. There are multiple carving stations, a sushi station, and a salad station. There's also made-to-order ramen and omelette stations (the ramen is meh - the omelette is better!). And don't get me started about the pastries and the desserts!!!! They also have champagne - perfect for a special brunch moment. On top of the great food, the view of the ocean is spectacular. There is usually a live piano player too - it's just perfect. The service is great and matches the special atmosphere. I have always felt taken care of here. If you are looking for a special occasion brunch (or honestly just want to treat yourself), come here. I'm sure you won't regret it! read more

11/7/2025 Orchids at Halekulani - Honolulu, HI Second time dining here and we had an exceptional evening at Orchids. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful -- open-air, elegantly designed, and perfectly situated with a breathtaking oceanfront view of Waikiki and Diamond Head. The atmosphere is sophisticated yet relaxed, and the service was first-class -- friendly, attentive, and professional from start to finish. We began with an impressive selection of appetizers: * Prime Beef Filet Carpaccio - $29 Thinly sliced, melt-in-your-mouth tender beef topped with Parmigiano-Reggiano, truffle aioli, shaved truffle, and tapioca chips. A perfect starter. * Hamachi - $32 Light, citrusy, and perfectly fresh with orange supremes and wasabi buttermilk -- vibrant and well-balanced. * Mushroom Risotto - $48 (Mid-Course) Creamy, earthy, and luxurious with porcini dust, Hudson Valley foie gras, and white truffle oil -- absolutely fantastic. * Burrata Cheese - $26 Creamy burrata paired with dehydrated Ho Farms tomatoes, arugula, crostini, and Hawaiian sea salt. Simple, elegant, and delicious. For our entrées: * Hawaiian Seabass (Hapū'upu'u) - $48 Perfectly cooked, moist, and flavorful, complemented by asparagus flan and a light lemon-caper sauce. * Day Boat in Carta Fata - $54 A showstopper -- scallops, prawns, and manila clams steamed in parchment with tomato sauce, Kalamata olives, and herbs. Wonderfully aromatic and rich. To accompany dinner, we enjoyed three martinis at $22 each and two glasses of wine at $30 each, all served chilled and beautifully presented. For dessert, we shared the Pineapple Sorbet and Coconut Cake. While both were good, they were the least impressive part of the meal and didn't quite match the excellence of the rest of the dining experience. The total came to about $390 before tax and tip, which felt high but reasonable for the level of quality, service, and overall experience. Overall, Orchids is one of Honolulu's finest dining experiences -- world-class food, impeccable service, and an unbeatable view. The only reason it's not a full five stars is the slightly underwhelming desserts, but everything else was truly outstanding. We'll definitely return on our next trip to Waikiki. read more

Such a good breakfast spot on the water at Halekulani. A great way to get the luxurious hotel experience without booking a room. Tons of Asian tourists and others a little dressed up. The loco moco alone is the reason to go to this place, with this insane grilled burger meat inside. Great banana pancakes, somewhat flavorless popovers, elegant overall. Brunch at Orchids is an experience. It is definitely not an everyday place to eat at $118/pp. Welll it can't be, it's Sunday Brunch, but for a special occasion, I would definitely save up and go here. The location gives you spectacular views of the ocean and hotel grounds. The ambiance was very relaxing with the open air seating. The staff was always there for you to refill your coffee (which is so good!), clear your plates and assist you with your food" haul" from the buffet. They provide a tray for you to carry your plates back to your table from the buffet lines, and your waiter is right their to assist you and take the tray away once all your plates and bowls are transferred to the table. The restaurant provides a well written menu at the table of what is offered from the complimentary beverages to enjoy (not just coffee, tea, and water!), but juices, and even a glass of bubbly in addition to the food offerings. There are Cocktails which are additional, but there are plenty of choices that are included with the buffet price. Now onto the food. Sushi, sashimi, made to order handrolls, snow crab clusters, shrimp, and poke are all available. The lines for the handrolls can be a bit long (I skipped it), but they were enjoyed by others in my party. There are servers to help you with the crab and large shrimp. I had to tell him to stop giving me shrimp as he kept placing more of the large cooked shrimp on my plate. Lol. Sauces were all available for me to add onto my plate. Ham, grilled seafoods, Flank steak, prime rib and the whole pig and skin are all there, including a whole roast turkey. I will say the pork was a bit dry and the skin wasn't as crispy as I would have liked, but the rest of the offerings looked amazing. An omelet station with breakfast meats and a Ramen station are also available. We went on a rainy day, and the hot Ramen broth was so nice to have. Finally the dessert station was as wonderful as always (see my picture below). I actually missed the chocolate bread pudding, but as you can see, I had more than enough choices that I was okay with missing one of my favorite buffet desserts. All in all, a beautiful brunch buffet. Parking is validated, but tip the valet workers, they all work hard to begin and end your experience at the Halekulani. read more

I had to hear on the second night of our vacation the restaurant located right on the beach you have beautiful views of the ocean and the sunsetting. The restaurant is beautiful and it exudes a lot of elegance. I had the Mediterranean Branzino , which was delicious. It was flaky and soft and had a full of flavor. and artichokesand Pearl onions. Our second order what is the tasty menu which included five different specialty items such as Hawaiian yellowfin Ahi Tartare, tenderloin, fillet, lasagnette, and Mediterranean Branzino, It was good we enjoyed ourselves.
