Seeing as I live in Austin and work in Georgetown, it is funny to me when people complain about hight food prices being in Georgetown. I think Roots is a bit overpriced, but it's standard compared to Austin sandwich places. I had the Florentine Turkey (see the one star review that knocked it below). Was it the best sandwich I ever had? No. Did I enjoy it and feel satisfied afterward? Yes. That's really all want from a sandwich, honestly. And spinach wilts when it's heated. Super clean, nice decor, and just a very friendly atmosphere. GREAT happy hour prices and some GREAT beer on tap! The patio area was nice and suprisingly cool with a breeze. We had the pork sliders and hummus dip and both were very tasty. I met the owner also while I was there and he was very welcoming and friendly. There are a lot of bad restaurants in Georgetown...don't waste your time with them, try Roots! We went to Roots to hear a friend play. Since we were there, we got some beers and ordered some food. It was packed the night we were there. It was so loud, and the music had not even started yet. We were confused where to order. The bar doesn't look like it would be the place to order until you get up close. With all the people, we just thought they were hanging around the bar. Once we finally got our order, the waiting began for our food. It was quite a wait. I ordered a salad. It was good, but it was also very small and not at all filling. Good thing I was filling up on beer because the salad did not cut it. Some friends we were sitting with had their order completely forgotten about. We had people that had ordered a half hour after them get their food first. It was crazy. As soon as they went down to the bar to see about it, less than 5 minutes later, here came their food. It was just weird. I give it a 3 because the food I tried was actually good. I take off 2 starts because I feel it's overpriced, and the service could use some improving. If I had to go back, I would be fine with it. However, I would not plan or arrange anything on my own there. read more

This place is getting better and better. The spinach artichoke dip is amazing. The pizza has great crust and flavor and they have tapped into the local and microbrew beers. Happened to discover this place on a Sunday afternoon during market days in the plaza. I placed my order at the counter and sat down and listened to the live music, after close to one hour I became concerned that my pizza had not arrived. I returned to the counter too inquire about my pizza, and was in complete disbelief when I was told that my order never got sent to the kitchen. Sorry for the bad review but the grilled chicken in the salad was horrible and it was $9. Rubbery slices of chicken that tasted like discounted frozen chicken in a bag. Also, due to the odd layout, the upstairs goes ignored and there were mounds of dirty dishes lying around on tables. The upstairs area in general feels shabby and uncared for. The servers we spoke to were all very friendly even though they seemed confused about who the orders went to. The live music was nice. Unfortunately the food needs so much improvement. Boyfriend and I were looking for something awesome to experience and sadly it was one of the worst experiences we've ever had overall. Serving seemed to be the last on everybody's minds. Conversating seemed to be more important to them. Waited for almost 45 minutes for their Cuban sandwhich, which ended up being pretty bad especially for how long we waited for it. My dad and I tried this place for the first time last night. Monument Cafe (one of our favorites) was not open for dinner, but that turned out alright. My dad just searched for something similar and Roots came up. It's a quaint and homey venue on the square across from the courthouse. We both found parking around the square despite it being prime dinner time. They had a live band of two girls (Katie and Kaitlyn?) playing cover songs. They were pretty good and played songs that I recognized. My dad and picked a table farthest away from them though so we could have a conversation without shouting. You order dinner at the bar and they bring it to your table. My dad ordered the BLT with a side salad and I got the bistro salad. Our food came out pretty quickly. I LOVED my salad and the avocado ranch dressing was a perfect compliment with the turkey, bacon, artichoke, red bell pepper, lots of cheese. My dad enjoyed his sandwich and salad. Would definitely come back and try out some other items on the menu. read more

This restaurant/ bar was so disappointing it is hard to believe . I'll get right to the point, it is so overpriced as to be shocking!! The only thing worse than the incredibly long wait time was the pathetic amount of food. We ordered a $6.95 artichoke / spinach appetizer that took 20 minutes to be delivered and consisted of less than 4 oz. of burned dip and about 25 cents worth of chips. It was so bad I took a photo to post on FB. What a rip off!! That is not to mention the $7. paid for a draft beer. We paid our bill and vowed to never return again. Stopped at this place on the way home, had a few beers and the social burger. It was SO good, within the first bite I could tell it was high quality meat. Crappy beer, crappy service. It's the lighting of the square and they're letting people line up out the door just to let groups of people walk right up next to us and buy beer. The bartender told me that there's only 3 of them and they couldn't tell them to line up with the rest of us. As a former bartender, you need to have the balls to tell other patrons to wait like the rest of us. She then told me to come see them again to throw coins at her in an attempt to make light of the situation. I never don't tip but seriously, you made us wait until the point of straight ignoring us. There's like 7 taps and no hard alcohol so it shouldn't take us 40 minutes to wait for some beer with 15 people in line. Get your shit together! read more

This is hands down my favorite place to go in Georgetown at any time of the day. I can go for a beer and lunch or dinner and have an equally great experience! The vibe this place has to offer is exceptional and unique and the wait staff is unbelievably welcoming and friendly. I love talking to all four of the main bartenders and that's true quality right there. The Veggie Tacos are my favorite and have very generous portions. It was just what I was looking for. As part of my new lifestyle, I live in Georgetown and walk thirteen blocks to work (ten blocks up, three blocks over.) This afternoon, I finished work early, and dipped out at 4pm. Having time to spare, and a leisurely stroll toward home, I thought to myself--"This is a college town, there should be a dive-y pub around here for me to stop and have a beer. Maybe even some yummy bar food." 'Twas at that precise moment, did I cast a glance at Roots Bistro a mere 200 feet in front of me. As I pondered the bar, and whether to stick my head in or not, two cute girls exited. "Hmmm..." I thought to myself. Then two more cute girls waked into the bar. Decision made. I strolled in, ordered a happy hour draft beer. The bartender and an aging academic were discussing politics, which I refrained from joining in. Their conversation soon turned to philosophy and metaphysics, which I did chime in, just as two more uber-hotties entered the bar. Yowza. I looked at the bar menu, and all that was on it were sandwiches, and single serving pizzas. I was really in the mood for nachos, or buffalo wings, or chicken tenders, or awesomely-excellent extreme poppers, or some kind of bar fare. I just decided to have a third beer instead of the two I was planning on. Where was I? Oh, yeah-- This is basically what I was looking for (food excepted). It's a nice, decent corner bar, right on the town square. The staff is friendly, the happy hour was cheap, and the clientele looked pretty nice. My mother got a sandwich and that was also the same price she enjoyed hers. For lunch for 2 people to eat and it was still over $20 not a great deal, but it's supporting local instead of a big chain. This was our go to spot in Georgetown. We loved the atmosphere and the local music. The best part is the locals were very friendly and the staff is above board helpful and friendly. Especially Ashlynn and the Blonde Lady(I'm horrible with names). If you want to feel like your NOT just another face in the crowd this is the spot. Great for families and friends. Craft Beers are great, we were able to try many of the local brews while we were there. The food is good and not something out of the freezer. Just be patient if it's busy because they give everyone the attention they deserve and you will get yours in due time. read more

Have been twice in the past month, apparently just reopened under new management. Both times we went, once as a couple, once with three kids they had live music and it was really good. It's counter service. Small selection of beer, much smaller selection of wine. Limited menu. We've had the cobb salad, with house made ranch which was fantastic. Not usually a fan of ranch, but the buttermilk tang and herbs made me understand why people do usually like it. The hippie salad was great. We've had a couple of different pizzas. The kitchen sink was a nice blend of meats and cheese that was gooey but not rubbery. The crust was pretty good, flavorful, could have been a bit more crisp. Had a veggie sandwich (OK, I added bacon) and it was very good. The first night they had a bread pudding which was crusty, warm and rich, stood well on its own and not drowning in sauce. No dessert selection the second night. The staff needs some work. The guy running the cash register on our second visit was flustered and had to run it through a couple of times to get it right. The girl on the first visit was very friendly and helpful. The first time they weren't as busy and it was very fast the second time they were packed so it slowed down some. I like the feel of the place - bright and open. The music both times was great, just one TV on with no sound (the final 4 was on). Good food, cold white wine, some draft beer, live music and right downtown, just what we need in Georgetown. Expand the food selection (side salads? more sides? desserts?) Better training for the staff and it can be a solid addition to G-Town. read more

Moved to Georgetown a few months ago. Stopped in here awhile back to have a beer and they were pretty much out. They were waiting to get their liquor license so they were giving it away, but they had very little left. We decided to give it another try once they "reopened" under new management. So we went last night to try their pizza and a few beers. There was a two person band playing that was actually pretty good, but it was WAY too loud for that small of a space. We walked up to the counter you order at and received a pretty rude and crappy greeting from the young lady behind the counter. (I'm guessing she was having a rough night by the looks of things, but still...) We asked how large the pizzas were and if one was enough to share and she said maybe. Gee, thanks, that was very helpful... Anyway, we ended up ordering two and a salad to share. (BTW - no side salads to speak of - just entree salads with chicken or turkey.) The pizzas came out and were pretty good sized but that's where any redeeming qualities stopped. The crust was extremely "bready" and thick. Toppings were just okay. But you could have put caviar on it and I would still have trouble getting past the crust. Yuck. New owners should take note - revamp the menu. Paninis, bad pizza and marginal, at best, salads just aren't going to make it happen in a place like the Georgetown square where restaurants go to die. Also, after looking at their website and seeing that they support local, I was surprised to see only one local beer on tap and that was Shiner which isn't all that local these days. The space is cool - it's an old building, lots of wood. They built a new bar which looks okay, but it's a little too wide making it akward for the server to pass things to you. Also, it looks like they gave a small effort to making it look "Texas" but then hung some pretty ugly lights and then for some reason, put two bicycles up on the wall. This place has potential but ALOT, in my opinion, needs to change. We might go back for a drink now and then but it probably won't be very often... which is too bad, because Georgetown is really hurting for cool hang outs... read more
