First and last time here. Not my style. Dark, old location. Live music was great, but the entrance was crammed with the stage on one side and make shift sound booth on the other side. Lots of seating, but crammed. First time here, not sure where to go. So we walked up to the bar to order lunch, there was a woman there, we were not greeted, just looked at. Did not feel very warm and or welcome. We ordered. Our food was brought out to us in a timely manner, we were not given utensils or napkins. I go back up the bar - not greeted. A guy comes from the back, looks at me like "what do you want", I ask for utensils. He points to them on the backside of the bar, like I was supposed to just know that they were there! Super fun place! I like to bring my kids to karaoke night. They love rocking out. Open mic night is super fun too, big variety of people and musical styles. The staff is friendly, quick, and the atmosphere there is very chill. All types of people. The pizza is better than 600 degrees! $2 Tacos on Tuesday (karaoke night) were surprisingly good too! I tried the nachos once & they would've been good, but they use a weird canned cheese instead of shredded cheese, so skip those unless you're a fan. We've been meaning to check out Roots for quite some time. What took us so long!? We went on a Sunday around 3pm. Surprisingly it wasn't crowded, it's football season and they have plenty of big screen TV's showing the games. They had a "Help Wanted" sign in the window. That being said, we knew they may be understaffed and we weren't in a hurry. Food and drinks are ordered at the bar. They have a good selection of craft beers and wines. We ordered the Kitchen Sink Pizza minus bell peppers, an IPA and a Blonde. I'm a certified "pizza Snob" meaning normally we ask for a box for leftovers. Well there was not a crumb left! The crust was the perfect combination of crunchy/chewy, toppings were super fresh. I also like that they put the spinach on after baking as opposed to before. Hubby and I went here with a friend. Had a great experience. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because their fountain drink machine had limited choices and two of them were out of order. The owner is super friendly. The menu has a lot of options. Of course I opted for the BLT, no mayo. This lovely sandwich is served on a French roll and I got their homemade kettle chips. Hubby and friend got burgers. Hubby's side was French fries and friend got a side salad. We would definitely go back to this quaint restaurant. Maybe to see and hear the local talent. read more

Great atmosphere. Had a pizza and it was really good. Shared it between 3 of us and it was a great size. Their alcohol is also decently priced. We haven't been on a weekend yet, but we plan to check it out when they have live music. Their pizza menu is similar to other joints in the area, but it still very good (although, as a northeasterner, I haven't found my go to pizza spot yet). What makes it enjoyable is that Roots has other options on the menu as well, beyond appetizers, so it's well-rounded enough for friends who don't want pizza. read more

The person who brought out the food was not wearing a mask and was not socially distanced. They aren't requiring masks to be worn. The table was dirty. They have guests reuse pens without sanitizing. We tried the pizza, a BLT, and tacos. The food wasn't remarkable. We went because the reviews were so good, but after being there I have no idea why they have good reviews. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. I'd call it a bar and not a restaurant. It'd be okay if you wanted to drink beer inside in a bar environment and listen to music, but I would not recommend for dinning. We don't plan on returning. read more

I rarely visit Georgetown and must admit had some preconceptions of what Georgetown was like. We pulled up in front of the court house to find live music and a crowd of locals enjoying first Friday. I also learned that you can have open containers in Georgetown and some of the restaurants will sell plastic glasses of wine and beer to go. Nothing like tipsy antiquing right? Looking for some AC and a drink we wondered into Roots Bistro. This building is on the square and has definitely been around for a long time. The two story building has a stage, a second floor balcony and an outside patio. Local art for sale lines the walls and a mix and match random furniture fills the room. I was surprised to find some decent taps and wines available. We came in just in time to catch happy hour which runs 4pm-7pm offering $3 off wines by the glass, 1/2 off bottles and $2 taps. Jars of small cookies beckoned and at 3 for $1 we got one of each. During happy hour Fireman's 4, a glass of wine and the 3 cookies came to $9 ($6 being for the wine however they do have $4 wine during happy hour). The cranberry oatmeal cookie is not to be missed. We liked the place enough to return with our friend after dinner for a round on the patio. They have live music some nights. read more

Awesome old building, long low and dark. Beautiful hanging gallery seating upstairs. Lots of beers on tap and a well balanced menu of pizza, sammiches, salads. THE PIZZA!!!!!!!!!! THE CRUST CRUNCHES WHEN YOU BITE IT!!!! Also totally delicious. Charmingly creepy back patio. I will drive back up here from Austin for this pizza. Oh, we got The Texan. A really great spot for a place to walk in, feel relaxed, and enjoy the music. The food menu isn't big and the beer menu is nicely adequate, but what I appreciate here is the LIVE music and the atmosphere with a comfortable decor. I came here for a drink and a bite to eat during happy hour on a Saturday and happened to see a musician by the name of Billy Gilbert from the Houston/League City, Texas area playing. I really enjoyed his music and it fit well with everyone there relaxing as well. While here I ordered the Reuben and a nice chilled Hefeweisen on a warm Texas evening. The beer was $2.50 at Happy Hour? WHAT?! So naturally, I ordered more... the sandwich was a great companion as well. The Reuben had a pannini pressed crust that was thick and crunchy while the warm kraut and meat met your taste buds in delight. The sandwich came with a side of basic potato chips, but that's okay.. it's pub food and they focus on the other things. While here I saw many other people order salads and pizzas.. those are some options that I think I will try next time. Yes, NEXT time.. because I hope to come back soon. Overall, the place has charm and is welcoming. I saw many people come and go at the front door, but I think it was because they just wanted to see what it was all about inside. It was just that attractive to draw their interests.. with the music playing and the decor. I saw ages of all types here, young and old, all enjoying the moment. I saw people come in for the beer, order their food "to go" and continue strolling the square... Root's is a nice place to beat the heat, enjoy a small town clean pub feel, and simply feel comfortable while you are in the area. The food is good and basic for a pub and the LIVE music of Billy Gilbert was SPOT ON as he drew applause after each song. Roots is a nice place.. I liked it on the first visit and I will be back when I am in the area. *closing note* It seems that Billy Gilbert played for his "tips".. and though he did get some from the crowd in attendance... I would ask Root's bring him back and pay him for a full night's set, because I know he could pull it off for their crowds. (but that's just my own personal closing note..) The food all came out completely room temperature. Three of us got burgers and they were very mushy and smelt extremely bad. I would definitely never recommend this restaurant and most certainly never recommend a burger from here. Even the Dr. Pepper tasted off... come on, it's Texas. read more

This place is such a joke, my family and I were looking around for hidden cameras. We ordered our food at 6pm tonight, and 1.5 hours later, we are still waiting on our food. When we asked the young kid at the front, who had his green hat on backwards, he looked dumbfounded and told me that he can't even find the order. Ummm... what?? I asked if he could just refund the card so we can go somewhere else, he said he can't even find the order so he cannot refund it. Came here on a slow summer Monday for lunch. Cute small downtown area and the place has its little decorations/games and music that gives it a cool vibe. This seems like a local place that the younger crowd would enjoy. I got the California taco and it has a choice of chips or salad for only $3. I also for the roots taco for $2.75 and got kettle chips with that. For less than $7 I got 2 tacos,side salad and chips. It is an awesome price and the food was pretty good. They were out of the beef so I got all pulled pork. I'm used to a sweet pulled pork so it seemed a bit dry for me but still really good. The side salad and bell peppers and olives so it was better than a reg lettuce salad. The kettle chips were good too bc sometimes some places are too thin and crispy on their chips. After working a long day at the theater (Georgetown Palace Theater), I'd often times wonder where in the heck would I be able to find some local draft beers AND hear some local music. Well, I didn't have to look far! Right off the "Square" (off of Austin Ave), Roots Bistro awaited me after a "Music in the Square" night and a long day of working. I was greeted by the owner himself & offered many local draft beer selections on tap. Options were Fireman's 4, Ruby Red Bird Shiner (summer seasonal beer), Lonestar, and even a few other national IPA's. I settled for Fireman's 4 and some cookies to keep me occupied as I listened to the music being offered in the tall ceiling establishment. There is a really nice 2nd level balcony area I recommend you heading up to after you get your beer and order a sandwich. The sound is MUCH better upstairs and allows for a bird's eye view to see other customers and watch the musician play his/her sett. I could definitely see this place become a staple of local (and maybe even national) music acts for this seemingly sleepy town called Georgetown. It's only minutes away from North IH 35 and around the corner from the local university and courthouse. On a seperate occassion, I was looking for beer and decided to drop in on a Sunday afternoon. I was a bit disappointed to find Roots was closed that day but the owner invited me in anyway and sold me a beer to-go! (Yes, you CAN walk around this town with an open beer/container - it was surprising for me at first but after the owner assured me it was okay - I trust him and did it!) I took my IPA to go in a plastic pint container and enjoyed it on the grassy lawn of the courthouse. I thanked him so much for allowing me to fancy my tastebuds on such a hot afternoon in Georgetown. Owners are genuine and sweet, music is ALWAYS live, and the atmosphere is super chill and cool on a hot summer's day/night. I can't wait to see what else this place offers in the future. You get there, the first thing you do is wait in line. The few times that I've been there, the food has come out pretty quickly. The pizza is great, and not bad to take home. But I had their Cuban sandwich, and it is amazing. My wife had the reuben, and she said hers was pretty good too. We went there one time on taco tuesday, and I was surprised at how good the tacos were. I grew up on tacos. I'm not a big fan of a lot of Austin favorites. This place has great tacos on tuesday. It's karaoke night, so be prepared. The live music is hit or miss. I've been there when there's some amazing live music. I've also been there and wondered why this person is on stage. I judge a place by their service, and the services great. You just have to know how to order. Remember, when you get there wait in line. read more

We ordered pizza from this restaurant. The delivery was through DoorDash. The dasher delivered a wrong pizza. I called Roots Bistro to report the error. They said I had to contact DoorDash to have the issue corrected. I attempted to contact DoorDash through customer service on their website. The contact never went through and left the spinning ball of death for 15 minutes. I gave up on online support and called the customer service number. I have been on hold for 30 minutes so far. DoorDash sucks and the restaurant isn't making it right. Very disappointing!!!! read more

The potatoes were stone cold and dry. Spuds look as if they were left over from lunch rush - it was 8PM when I got them. The table was dirty and no one was wearing a mask or social distancing. It appears to me no one working in this establishment cared about what they were doing or the product they were delivering. We brought a group of 30 to Roots on a Friday evening and had a great time. Our group was able to find tables and essentially take over the downstairs. Everyone from the kiddos to the grandparents were able to find food, drinks, and entertainment. We ordered a few different varieties of their specialty pizzas and they were great. All were fresh from the oven with quality toppings. (If you're wondering, we've also eaten at 600 Degrees down the road, they're both great. I think the pepperoni is better at 600D but otherwise its about atmosphere.) We enjoyed the various alcoholic beverages available and everyone else found the fountain drinks and coolers to be ample to their needs. The live band was a wonderful treat. They played a cool mix of songs that were both new to us and familiar to us. Also, I'd remiss if I didn't mention that the salads were also popular in our crowd. All in all, any place that can flex with a group of 30 and still maintain high quality service and food is good in our book. read more
