Dropped in looking for some late lunch tacos, after spending some time checking out downtown Rutland for the first time. This is an inviting place to drop in, and service great. We started with a cocktail flight, and an order of chips with queso and house made Salsa Roja. The salsa was wonderful! The chips and queso were tasty - you will need more than one basket of chips to eat all of the queso and salsa. Service and drinks were great, food was NOT FRESH!!! Don't eat here! $17 for a Crunchwrap that was actually WORSE tasting than a Taco Bell crunch wrap for $7? At least at Taco Bell they don't ask for tips either... Overall, extremely disappointed. Food is extremely lackluster. And, I'm an older woman, my taste buds are dried up, and this still tasted bad! No fresh ingredients. You can tell guac was previously frozen. Refried beans tasted like they opened a can and just reheated them. Even the chips, came straight from a bag. Queso was velveeta based with not much flavor. There were no Mexicans or Spanish speaking people whatsoever in the restaurant which is also another dead giveaway. Honestly, what can you really expect for Mexican food in Vermont?? This place deserves a much lower rating for their food quality and lack of authentic flavor. Plus nothing is fresh. This place is called Taco Fresco, but as far as I could tell there was nothing even remotely "fresco" about anything that I've tried here. Let's start with Guacamole Fresco. Arriving to us looking like it was scooped up with an ice cream scooper it definitely looked like one of those yucky store-bought guacs, brown tint and all. It definitely sat in the fridge for quite a while. And while we are on the subject - it was basically Walmart gringo style avocado + lime juice. Where's tomato, onions, garlic, cilantro? I've had hipster avocado toast before that was more fresh and authentic than whatever they call guac in this place. Tacos didn't prove to be much better. Hard shell and giving vaguely Taco Bell vibes with heavy layer of grease. I don't think I've ever seen a Mexican restaurant serve this type of hard shell tacos before, even in the depths of divy Tex-Mex. Fajitas were the only food here that was genuinely good, sizzling pan and all. If you wander in here for some reason go for that. Oh, and Margaritas were pretty solid as well. I suppose if you consider this place a sports bar and go here for drinks it's quite passable, otherwise stay away. read more

Ordered some takeout. Got a Chicken Ranch burrito, ground beef quesadillas, and their burger and some sides. Expected from the pictures that the burrito would have some rice or beans on the side or some salsa, something, ground beef quesadillas, also no salsa, sour cream, burger looks like trash, over cooked hockey puck. Seems like it may be a good place. The food looks good. Never got past the doorway though. They don't take reservations, so you get put on a wait list. There is no real place to wait, so you are stuck standing in the doorway. I had a party of 4, and waited to watch many parties of 2 come in and get seated. They have many tables for 2. Maybe 2 or 3 tables for 4. We waited for an hour and got tired of waiting. We left to go across the street to Hoppin Moose. read more

I have been to Taco Fresco three times. This review is for the third time I went in March of 2025. Positive: Server was pleasant and attentive after the other tables got their food. It was a busy Saturday evening. My husband had the beef enchiladas and he said they were satisfactory but probably would not return. Challenges: No hot drinks are served. Nachos consisted of regular tortilla chips (out of bag, it seemed), and lukewarm yellow (not natural) cheese sauce and a sprinkle of beans - that was it. I had to ask for salsa. It was build your own, but the server did not really explain that well. It was served on a sizzle plate. Burrito bowl contents was minimum and lost in the very large bowl - again, build your own. Guacamole was listed on the menu under protein, not sure why. The bowl had warm beans on the bottom, guacamole, a sprinkle of cheese and shredded lettuce. Some of the shredded lettuce was brown as was part of the guacamole. I asked for some rice and I was charged $4.00. It was a cold night, but none of the food was hot; I was yearning for something comforting and hot. I am usually pretty forgiving as I have been in the food business a very long time and have been a chef and a baker. But after three times, I felt I needed to share my experience. My advice would be to get some consulting from chefs that specialize in Mexican food to improve the quality of some of the dishes and make them worth the money that is charged for them. Also, adding hot drinks, especially in the winter may boost the average check. Also, Mexican coffee could be served to go along with the theme of the restaurant. read more

First off... your Chips and Queso are AMAZING!! The online service is very convenient, but you can't always see what you are ordering. Case in point. I know beef is high right now, but GOOD LORD.. that's a bit ridiculous. I'm pretty sure it's petit sirloin based on how blah and tough it was.... and that's the least expensive of cuts! The burrito tasted a bit like old oil and cardboard. it was also packed with rice that may have seen better days.... If we pay that much for food, it needs to be clean and fresh. This was far from it. We probably won't be back until your menu prices come down, and I mean across the board. Or just bring yourselves back to your previous glory! The order we had before last night's trip was perfect and I'd pay good money for that, but cutting corners or whatever your staff is doing isn't working. We got quickly seated on a busy night. I ordered the build your own burrito bowl and there was barely any food in this massive bowl. It mostly just lettuce but it was good for the few bites I had. I love Mexican and I am so happy Taco Fresco has come to downtown Rutland! The ambience is warm and welcoming, I love the design of the bar and color scheme throughout the restaurant. The space feels new and clean. The cocktails are excellent! If you like tequila you'll love the variety of tequilas on hand. We have been twice and tried different cocktails both times from Karen and Gabby and had an amazing experience both times. On our most recent visit Gabby gave us an entire tequila education that was very helpful. We have tried the tacos, enchiladas, and other dishes and have been really happy with each one. The chips and guacamole are great and you can tell they make the chips fresh (which isn't common in VT). The prices for the food are very reasonable while the cocktails are a bit more than the bars around downtown Rutland the quality and taste more than make up for it! We stopped in after a day at Killington. The restaurant was very clean with some great decor. Very well designed. The place felt very well staffed as we were seated right away. By the time we left, a short line had formed. Aurora was our server. She was friendly and efficient. We had the last order of Tacos Birra, as well as the Mexican corn, taco salad and a "Build your own bowl". All were fantastic especially the tacos. Can't recommend enough. Ask for Aurora. read more

I generally go for lunch or early dinner...drinks are pricey...overpriced actually. $11 for a 8oz house margarita using (if memory serves) Hornitos Silver. $16 for say Casamigos Repesado or similar quality. $16 for a decent 8oz margarita ? Came in last Saturday for lunch. Waiter was busy, no problem we were okay with that. Food came, it was good. Problem came in when a couple came into the restaurant with a (service) dog and sat at the bar. I have no problem with service dogs. This was not a service dog. My wife and I are in Rutland this weekend. We were supposed to meet her cousin and husband for dinner, but she took ill. So we had nothing planned. We arrived around 7:30 and there were some open tables. The conversation level was a bit load for our liking, but there isn't much on the walls to absorb sound. As people finished their dinners, the sound level dropped. We picked Taco Fresco. We were very happy that we did. I had a special margarita with ghost peppers. Was very tasty but not much spice. My wife had the fish tacos and I had the barbacoa enchiladas. Both were very tasty. My wife had a Corona bottle, $4, and I had a Dos Equis draft, $5. The prices of all the drinks were extremely good. Service was very good. Brought food and drinks in a reasonable amount of time for the number of customers. I noticed an error in the bill, the cost of the enchiladas was less than their system charged. Brought this to the attention of our waitstaff. She corrected the error on a new bill and provided a credit card slip showing that the initial charge was reversed. We'll definitely stop in the next time where in Rutland. read more

My girlfriends and I went here for the first time today and had a wonderful experience. Keep in mind, they just opened! Still working out a few kinks I think. Forget trying to go here if you have more then 2 people in your party. The food is pretty bland and basic. Honestly chipotle tastes better if you want "Mexican food". The portions are super small and pricey. $10 for a cup of guacamole that tastes like frozen Peru avocados and is super salty. The chips a re greasy as f*** and really every thing is super greasy. I got a bean burrito and it was like a chimichanga level greasy. Too sum up my experience is annoying, expensive for the size and super boring.
