We usually have dinner at Ropewalk after a day of driving down to the island due to this. It's a decent spot that give chain restaurant vibes...kind of different from everywhere else on the island. Went here for lunch recently since it was one of the only restaurants open for lunch during the week. Overall, the menu was underwhelming. For most of the people in our party, not much jumped out to us but a few of us ended up getting the seafood cobb salad which was pretty decent for a salad. The greens were fresh enough and there was a scoop of crab meat & maybe 5 or 6 shrimp. For the price, it definitely could've used a few more shrimp. The waffle fries seemed to be the biggest hit at the table. We are outside & the view of the water was beautiful. Unfortunately the umbrellas only covered part of the table so a couple people had to sit in the sun the whole time which wasn't ideal but it's to be expected when sitting outside I guess. The service was kind of rude when we asked for things like ranch an extra spoon we were looked upon a little intense seems like their servers and hostess were not properly communicating when we asked for a table. The seating was ok, we chose to sit outside but naturally the beach part was pretty full. I did enjoy they gave you a small/ large pitcher of water they also serve alcoholic beverages in them and they make speciality drinks as well. Due to the weather it was really windy but a cool place to go. We went with our two kids and they enjoyed it. The Ahi was terrible we couldn't really eat it. My friend got a burger and it wasn't anything special my son had the Mac n cheese and it was just regular Mac n cheese but he enjoyed that. They forgot to bring us an entree entirely but left it on our check. We had that corrected. We had a cheese cake and it didn't really taste really good unfortunately, we ordered two and left it. First time to Chincoteague. Love the island & highly recommend Ropewalk. We ate here last night. Had the Chincoteague Salts on the half shell & the deadliest steam pot. Delicious!! We were gonna try another restaurant tonight but needed reservations. Who knew So decided we would come back to Ropewalk. Again highly recommend. Sat at the bar both times. The food was fine. When you go to a restaurant, you're going there to eat, right? So it's nice that the food was prepared well and tasted good. However: I ordered the lobster steamer, and from when I placed my order to when it arrived at my table, well over an hour passed. During that time, the waiter checked in exactly once, forty-five minutes after we ordered, after I flagged her down to verify that the order had been put in; I feared it may have slipped through the cracks. At that point, I was told, "the lobster takes a long time." Had I known that the lobster was going to take over an hour to prepare, I might have ordered something else, or gotten an appetizer, or, I don't know what. Additionally, my partner ordered the scallops, priced about the same as the lobster, but with only four scallops, compared to my entire lobster and several shrimp and sausage. Had she known there would be only four scallops, she would have also probably ordered something else. Nine dollars per scallop is... really something. Maybe it's on us for not interrogating the situation more thoroughly before ordering; but if you're me and you haven't had lobster before, and you have no way of knowing that it will take over an hour to prepare, how are you supposed to know that that is even going to be something to worry about? It seems like this could have been avoided with a note on the menu about the lobster preparation time, or a gentle, "the lobster takes over an hour to prepare--is that alright?" from the waiter before I committed. There is something uniquely demoralizing about seeing a family of four, who arrived after you, receive their meal before your waiter has come by to see if there's anything else you need before your order arrives. We tried Ropewalk because they advertised a Steam Pot that looked perfect for the beach. We weren't wrong! It was expertly prepared! Generous portions of crab legs, shrimp, sausage and vegetables! Our Server Sandra was great with all of our questions. There was live music by John Remy. There are nice tables and booths outside but we'd been on the beach all day and were ready to sit where there was no wind for dinner so chose to sit inside. The reason for the 4 stars was when we arrived the Hostess asked if we would be willing to sit at a high top table. My husband has a bad back and those tables aggravate his issues so we requested a regular table. She sat us right in front of the musician's set up so the speakers were right behind my husband. Our Server even commented on how that was a bad table. Pretty crappy if this was done on purpose but we didn't hold our Server accountable for it. We ended up eating at Ropewalk on our first night in Chincoteague after a long day of driving. We were looking for somewhere nice to dine outside with a view of the water with fun drinks. Ropewalk accomplishes all of those things. Our food was good. The meals ordered in our party were the steamed shrimp, steamed Alaskan snow crab legs, and seafood Cobb salad. Everything was very well-prepared, and our service was excellent. I also really liked my drink which was the Star Spangled Slammer. It was a combination of strawberry, piña colada, and blue raspberry slushies. Our server mentioned there was supposed to be a bomb pop in it as a garnish, but they had run out which was no big deal. Since it was Sunday evening, they had also run out of many of our original choices from the menu. Thankfully, our server had printed a receipt of everything that was gone instead of having to continually remember the list and left it with us so we could make a second choice more easily. She said that they often run out of things on Sunday nights because they get new shipments on Mondays. I was also very thankful that we sat outside. Great with food allergy needs. Delicious food and friendly service. We lived this place so much we returned the very next night. Dinner was excellent. The second visit there was a few mix ups with what we ordered. Not sure what happened with that - although we did return closer to closing time. In any case we enjoyed our meals - except for one person in our party - often a picky/disgruntled personality so not too surprising on that front. Possibly the worst food on the island. The sandwich shops kick this places butt. The only think even remotely decent are there wings, oysters and steamed shrimp. Don't order anything else. It's so disappointing bc when they bought the place fromJack's they claimed it was bad management that made them fail. We'll now it's bad food. I mean really bad. I was happier driving 15 miles for a burger from Sonic than eating the one I had here. Step it up Rope Walk or the only thing you'll have is a nice view of the sunset. Omg this was the first place we came to after we all arrived for our mini vacation. Ate outside even tho it was hot and humid there was a nice breeze on the water under the umbrella! Such a cute place for outdoor dining -after taking 5 minutes before selecting a table outside we finally sat down - totally our own doing and our waitress arrived informing us we chose a table that was closed but she let us still sit there anyway- lol we must have had that weary traveler look - food was delicioussssss the appetizers of crab cake egg rolls were past fantastic as were the pot stickers. Crab cake was out of this world and hubby orzo with scallops and crab was 5 stars all the way! So so sooooo glad we stopped here and will do so again before we leave to go back home next week! The Ropewalk became a bit of a go-to restaurant during our trip to Chincoteague, especially on sunny afternoons we could sit outside and listen to the live music on the water. It's a relaxing atmosphere, that really makes you feel like you are on vacation. Charming, with long plank tables and sand underneath, and a child's playground next door. (Just be careful scooting out of the tables, as we both got splinters doing so) The food was largely good, with a few mixed review items. Because we went back numerous times, we were lucky enough to try several different dishes and drinks. -Drinks - we tried several of the mules on different days, but "The Perfect Storm" was definitely the best. The dark spiced rum really makes that drink pop. - Tacos / Sandwiches - The beer-battered rockfish tacos, accented with Chipotle horseradish aioli, were fantastically balanced and quite lovely. They were accompanied by waffle fries that were crunchy, flavorful, and on point. And the crab cake sandwich was plump with crab meat and satisfying. The seared tuna taco unfortunately, did not quite hit the mark. While visually beautiful, there is something in the combination of taste and textures that was conflicted. The cabbage and spring onion overpowered the raw tuna, which did not have enough siracha ginger aioli on them to counterbalance. The waffle fries partnered with it also tended to overpower the tuna, so you tended to feel the tuna texture in your mouth more than taste anything special. - The fried green tomatoes were accented with crab meat and Chipotle horseradish sauce. They were crunchy, satisfying, and very tasty. Definitely worth reordering. - Entrees - finally, we get to one of the dishes that I feel most conflicted about. The day scallops were beautifully finished, seem to have a nice sear on them, and were very scrumptious. However, they were small and somewhat sparing in number. After speaking with the waitress, we also realized that they were not local seafood. In retrospect we probably would have tried to order fresh seafood from the area. The swordfish we had was also not local, and unfortunately had a bit of a fishy taste. So I would probably give this dish a miss in the future. read more

There are signs saying there is a 1.5 hour limit on tables. I saw tables occupied for more than 2 hours. I put my name on the list shortly after 5 pm and was told there was a 40 minute wait, 40 minutes turned into 2 hours. As we were being escorted to our table which was the first table next to the door and at the top of a staircase another table opened up. We hadn't even sat down when I asked if we could have the other vacant table and was told that it is for others waiting. So as we are being seated we can't get the better table that is available at that moment? No. So I go to the manager and he says the same thing. I walked out. There was no reasonable or rational explanation why I couldn't have that table. I wouldn't have any doubts that the people they were going to sit at the better table were friends of theirs. What would you think? I will not be going back! Extremely Rude manager and hostesses. Do yourself a favor and go to an establishment where a reasonable request to sit at a table that is open is honored- where the customer is respected and treated with dignity. Where time limits are enforced when there is a waiting list which would shorten the wait time for others waiting for tables. read more

Beautiful atmosphere, fantastic staff, food was yummy ~ I had the scallops (smaller portion, but super yummy ~ reminded me of a Rachel Ray dish that just needed some feta). My husband chose the Short Rib and he also enjoyed it, but still was hungry. It's not often that we both have room for desert immediately after our meal but on an upside, there were no leftovers to contend with & it was still yummy. I also enjoyed the watermelon drink... which reminds me, our waitress was totally on point with refills. She was excellent. Perfect location with a very well unkept establishment. We always opt to eat outside where there is sand and the overlook of the bay. They have bands every so often and it makes quite a fun vibe. There is also an outdoor bar. As for the food, I feel like the quality has declined. I recently chose the seafood salad and there was just a little bit of (not fresh) shrimp and a tad of crab meat. Not worth the 22$. I was also disappointed with the cream of crab soup. It's worth going for the atmosphere and the bar but I wasn't impressed with the food this time around. Horrible just horrible! My family and I came in at 8 pm and asked for a table. We were told there was a two hour wait yet there we only 4 people in the waiting area. When asked if we could speak to a manger or be told why there was a two hour wait the hostess replied because there are a ton of people on the list and then my husband saw her roll her eyes.
