I really really wanted to love this place. Being new to the area, I was eager to find an authentic, hole-in-the-wall gem safely removed from chains and corporate mediocrity. The atmosphere is from my childhood. Welcoming wood paneling, unapologetically antiquated glassware - the small bar where the bartender definitely knew every customer and instantly identified me as new. If you closed your eyes you could smell the smell of historical cigarettes and Chianti (this is a good thing). For the above they receive their only stars. The food was hugely disappointing. Chicken wings were clearly frozen Pierce Wing Dings - salty, bland, thrown on a plate with a plastic cup of bottled blue cheese and carrots from the Reagan administration. But the pizza - CLEARLY - not the "Apizza" as noted on their charmingly old sign - was a cross between frozen airport pizza - and sauceless/tasteless, too thick to be thin crust and too thin to be Greek style - hot bread with greasy cheese. I appreciated the photos of the original owner over the bar. I suspect this was actually a really great place in the 60's, 70's, and 80's under his regime. If in the area, there are 3 other better options with a 5 min drive in any direction. read more

After hearing that they had great pizza I picked up two today. Meatballs and mushrooms for me and sausage and peppers for my son. I thought the sauce tasted good but that's pretty much where it ended for me. It was a thick pizza. A thick chewy crust and it was doughy . The meatballs were mushy and too much oregano . My son who likes every pizza said that he likes it . We're not getting that again lol three stars because the lady there was nice and my son liked his. read more

Ro's is our go-to pizza. I grew up eating their pizza and now that I'm 25 minutes away we order the same pizza but have it not fully cooked and not cut. The drive home having to smell the car wafting with deliciousness is almost unbearable. We finish it off in our oven, cut, and enjoy! A local Watertown staple for as long as I've been alive. I kept hearing how amazing this place was so I figured I'd check it out with my daughter so we went in and first we were not greeted so we proceeded to grab an empty table. Next, we waited 7 minutes for someone to notice and a waitress came she never mentioned her name so I couldn't say her name but let call her lady with black hair. She asked what would we like took our drink order and then we ordered appetizers crab cake's and bruschetta. As we are waiting people come In and looked lost looking to get seated. 15 minutes passed and our appetizers arrived along with our drinks (which was water and seltzer) my daughter and I tried the crab cakes and they were very soggy and kinda semi cold in the middle so we said well let's try the Bruschetta and taking the first bite the bread not toasted right and it was also soggy. I wasn't able to continue to eat it. So we decided to try the pizza and said well let's try the pizza that should be amazing. We continued to wait another 15 minutes for the waitress to return to take our order mind you people who were seated after us were being attended quickly and they got their food before us. Finally waitresses came back took our order and we proceeded to get 1/2 Clams Casino and 1/2 plain. I will speak of the woman with the blonde hair she was very attentive to everyone around and even us. As for the place it was nice cozy but it was a bit warm and a bit dark but it was ok. Now our small pie took 20 minutes so we are well because it's made from scratch ok. Mind you people around us who show up after us were already leaving finally our pie arrived and i just didn't feel the same warmth as others who arrived. Any way we tried the pizza and to be honest i was not happy with it. We couldn't finish it so we just said let's get our bill and go. Disappointing. Not the same as I remembered. Back in the day, we considered Ro's one of the top pizza places in the Watertown area. Most recent visit did not live up to that experience. Pizza - crust was so hard it felt like your teeth might crack. Center of pizza was doughy. Soup - The minestrone was thin. Ordered a bow and was given a cup. "Boneless buffalo wings" - Really just big chicken tenders with no spicy sauce. Was really looking forward to a great meal, but this was not up to expectations, unfortunately. read more

Interesting. This pizza bears little resemblance to its New Haven cousins, but it is very cheesy, and has some unique flavors. The crust was so perfectly round that it almost seemed like it started with a food service unbaked shell. It may well have been homemade with some sort of sheeting tool. The sauce was a little pasty, but some nice sharp flavors were present in the cheese. There was a ring of burned cheese over much of the edges of the pie forming a sort of "outer skin". I think this is supposed to be part of the charm, but it seemed bitter and burned. All in all, I can see why this spot has been so popular since the 1940's. read more

I've been going here forever. The pizza has nice crust. But some of the staff are miserable. It's so expensive though. It's $26 for a small pizza and drinks for two and the tip. And they do not have free refills, meanwhile charging $2 per cup of soda. The pizza is mediocre. Take note that treating a family of 5 (2 large pizzas, 2 toppings each) plus drinks and tip comes to $50-$55. The pizza isn't bad, and the atmosphere is okay, but the price is a deal-breaker when money is tight. read more

The pizza crust is thick and dry, bland sauce the burnt cheese around the outside of the crust just make the pizza unappealing. The fact that you can order thick or regular crust was an immediate YES for me. We had sausage & mushroom, Florentine and plain cheese. It was all PERFECT, delicious and everyone loved my choices. In my opinion, the best pizza in the state. Pizza is all about what you grew up with but it would be hard for me to find a pizza better. The flavors are perfectly balanced and ingredients are high quality. It's a thicker crust style, hand formed. My favorite is Peppers and Sausage. The only combo I have tried there I didn't care for that much was Bacon and Onions (my favorite combo). I think it was because the bacon wasn't crispy enough. It still wasn't terrible. Twenty years a go, when I first got my license, my dad told me it was my job to bring home the weekly pizza. I told him that meant he would never have Ro's Pizza again. It was that bad. About six months ago, I decided to give the place another shot. I was tired of the other options in town and figured that enough time had passed to give them another shot. I'm happy to report their pizza has improved a great deal. They're now my go-to place in town. The pizza isn't perfect, but, it is far better than most of the other local options. Cook the pie a little longer so that it's a little more crispy and less doughy, it'll be as close to perfect that I can get in town. The pasta isn't bad, but, the sauce is too sweet. It seems to be a local trend. I find almost all pasta sauces from local establishments to be too sweet for me. At least for the time being, this is my go to pizza place. Pizza restaurants are on every corner it seems. When you discover a pizza restaurant such as Ro's, you gotta spread the wealth. Ro's was a ritual for my wife's best buds family. Almost every Friday nite when mom got off of work at the grocery they would make the trek from Torrington (approximately 25 miles) to get a pizza,always taking my wife along. When we started dating, we also started making it a habit,it's that good. Now some 50 years later our kid do the same! I /we have not had a bad pizza ever. Yes there's times when it's really busy they might push the pizzas to get them out,but the quality does not suffer ,still amazing ! Weather it's the two of us or twenty they accomidate us.
