My visit with family to celebrate a birthday last week was wonderful. Food was delicious and service was flawless. The roasted half chicken with mole and duck carnitas enchiladas are standouts. My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here. I made reservations just in case it was busy but there were plenty of open tables at 6pm on Friday! Staff was super friendly and welcoming. Loved the vibrant colors. The bar area looked fun too. Our server was Katherin. She was very friendly and helpful! We ended up ordering the tableside guac, chicken taco, steak taco, and birria tacos. Haven't been here since before covid. Went on 2/28/26 for dinner with my family. The menu is different but still good. Food is great, drinks are fantastic, but the service, the service we receive was outstanding!!! We had the honor of being served by a young lady named Skarlet. From food options, to drink choices to even letting us know what was the most spiciest food was. At one point I just put down my empty cup and I have no clue where she came from, but she was quick to ask if I wanted a refill. She was very hyped on the food choices we made and even let out a nice (let's gooooo)! Which my sone said was awesome. She was very attentive, extremely polite, and had a great attitude. Parking is horrible in the front of the restaurant on a Saturday. There was snow still covering some parking lots which made it worse. Had to park in the garage in the back lower lovel not top closer to the restaurant. When I arrived there was know one at the Hostess stand the bartender Sat us after a minutes since he saw us waiting. The salsa and chips are very tasty super flavorful. We ordered the Table side Guacamole which was bland and flavorless very disappointing. We had the Birria Tacos they were very cheesy and crunchy.. I've been wanting to try Rosa Mexicano for a while now. The interior is cozy and great to grab food or even hangout at the bar. We sampled some horchata hot chocolate and I highly recommend you sell it! They were nice enough to let us have a full size on the house! We ordered some margaritas (lime and pomegranate). For our meals we got the birria tacos and a random assortment of selected tacos (NY steak, cheeseburger, shrimp tempura). Tacos run for $5 a piece. We really enjoyed the birria and cheeseburger tacos. Overall we had a great time. read more

This location is located at Riverside Square Mall and there is plenty of parking. If you dine on a Friday or Saturday, it may take longer to find parking right in front of the restaurant, but there is plenty of parking and a garage attached to the mall. On the most recent visit, I came in with a group of 10 on a Thursday evening. There were plenty of tables available for dinner. For drinks, I ordered the Spicy-Cucumber. I love spicy cocktails and usually opt for anything with jalapeño, but this one was a refreshing kind of spicy. Just the right amount of spice to give a kick, but not enough to become overwhelming. Appetizers included Chips & Salsa (complimentary), Guacamole En Molcajete, and Camarones Diablos. The guacamole is large enough for about 4 people and is pretty straightforward. The family is a big fan of the Camarones Diablos. There was a good amount of shrimp and the sauce drizzled over the shrimp paired really well. For my main dish, I ordered the Birria Quesatacos. They were a bit drier than ones I've had at other places, but the taste is just as great. The dipping sauce solves that problem. Service is great every time! I will be back! read more

Stopped in for veteran's day meals with my veteran. We ordered the guac, birria tacos and enchilada trio. The guac was excellent and there was quite a lot of it. Came with some smoky salsa too. My birria tacos were the smaller "street taco" size but it was perfect because I was getting full from all the guac and chips. The consomme was more like a thicker sauce rather than a broth and it was enough to pour on/dip. The enchiladas we chose were duck, chicken and beef. The favorite was the duck - the mole sauce was rich in flavor and a bit chocolatey. The mocktail made with guava was refreshing and sweet. The server was attentive and friendly. I used to once really like Rosa Mexicano (the one in the city) but boy have things changed since the last time I've been to a location. I came to the one next to the Riverside mall for lunch with a friend and was met with the most awful microwaved tasting food and poor service. First, we ordered the "made tableside" guac and it was NOT prepared tableside but rather just plopped onto our table. The guac was studded with huge chunks of onion and was flavorless. We looked for a server to ask for salt and nobody ever came back. For $20 guac we expected something more special than just a plop of guac dropped at our table. We ordered our entree only after flagging down somebody (mind we had been waiting for about 20-25 mins to order our entrees. We got this garlic shrimp pasta which was a joke some kind of odd, overcooked chowmein type of noodles in a oily butter that had no flavor. And these mushroom enchiladas that supposedly had a mixture of mushrooms on the menu (we only saw portabello mushrooms inside) all served along side this microwaved tasting Uncle Ben's rice. Overall, service was awful we never got checked on once and had to again flag somebody down for the check. If you're charging these premium prices for below mediocre food at a prime location, please reconsider the operations! read more

Atmosphere is great and so is the salsa. Mojitos were good. The ceviche was not my favorite however the real disappointment was when I received my Duck Carnitas tacos and the only flavor I could taste was nutmeg. Did try a bite of my friends skirt steak and that was phenomenal so I would recommend that, but otherwise I would recommend going somewhere else. Camarones Diablos - Crispy shrimp, fiery chile de árbol sauce, cool avocado ranch - oh this is so good, it's like a bang bang shrimp but spicy Camarones al Mojo de Ajo - Jumbo shrimp, chorizo, fideo noodles, avocado, chile guajillo-lobster butter sauce - this was delicious but the noodle was very wet, I like saucy but this was too wet... Duck Carnitas - Black beans, grilled pineapple-jicama salsa, queso fresco, mint, corn tortilla - this was really good I just didn't like the beans, it gave it a mushy texture, I think it would be better without the beans... Mexican Fried Rice - Chorizo, fried egg, bacon, corn, black beans, scallion, cilantro, tomato, chiles torreados - I'm Chinese so fried rice is something I grew up with and love. I love trying fried rice from different cultures as they put their cultural twist this was a good take! I do wish there was more chorizo because I live chorizo! The girls and I got together for Cinco de Mayo and chose this spot. When I arrived I didn't locate the restaurant right away because there was no sign. It is located in the shopping plaza next to PF Chang. I walked in and gave the reservation name. The DJ was bumping. I wanted to sit by the bar area but there were no available tables. We were sat and served by Elena and she was very nice and not frazzled by the busy restaurant. I started with the red sangria and I will say it was good but it was a bit pricey for a small cup of sangria. I then had a frozen margarita and that was a bit weak. We ordered different entrées and I got the shrimp tempura tacos and they were quite small and not filling. One of the girls got a noodle shrimp meal that she sent back because she didn't care for it and got salmon which she liked. The chips and guacamole were good. The response from the customer service rep was for me to email marketing@rosamexicano.com with my phone number and availability. I did that and never heard back. I reached out directly to the customer service rep and also no response. Clearly the initial response is a facade to show the public they legitimately care, when in fact, their marketing@rosamexicano.com is just a sham email address. Stupid. 2nd time visiting this place, and had quite a different experience when compared to the 1st visit, so providing reviews for both visits. 1st Visit - 2019 (5 Stars) Simply loved the atmosphere, fresh Guacamole made at your table, timely service, strong drinks, and the couple dishes we tried tasted really good.. 2nd Visit - Cinco de Mayo 2022 (3 Stars) Didn't feel much of celebratory vibe, Tableside Guacamole was not made Table side, and the girls at the Hostess Station (there were 3 girls, don't ask me why) were constantly talking and taking Selfies and not really helping out with Seating.. Restaurant was undergoing some renovations, so there was some delay in Service.. Also, looks like they are going for a more Americanized version for their look and feel, since the Renovations and the new Menu, looked way different from the fun, colorful, Mexican Restaurant look it previously had.. Drinks tasted good but felt like they were watered down, especially for the price. Ordered way more dishes than the previous visit (larger group) and most of them tasted good, but the quality and quantity was inconsistent.. With a Guac table-side station and phenomenal Margaritas it's a spot to hang out with family, friends or with your date. Loved all but a special shoutout to the Guacamole, Sweet Corn Esquites, Parrillada and oh so yum Tres Leches. . . With a brunch menu and a private space for events you got no excuse not to visit a good Mexican place in Bergen County. Oh boy - had been a few years since I was here- walked to in to an empty restaurant other than the 5 other ppl sitting at the bar - my first indication as to where this dinner was going was the high humidity curled up the hair immediately, apparently no AC, the service was barely ok - the girl promptly served our cold nacho chips but forgot to ask if we needed menus When we got them, we had to piece them together as they were all broken up at the seams My mimosa flight were warm Not appetizing at all I felt like we had to encourage the bartender to work for her tip the whole time Well, our tacos can be out and they were like TEMU photo version tacos compared to the picture on the broken menu- Note to manager if there is one- You need to do more homework on how to manage a good reputable restaurant read more

Heard about this place from my colleagues who went to Rosa Mexicano in New York. I thought it would be the same but seems like it wasn't.This place looks like a high end Mexican place and the menu items did not have all traditional items, however the food is quite expensive. $15 for guacamole was too much. The staff and the service at this place was really nice. The food was average , we ordered guacamole which was good but not as spicy, Carne Asada Y Huevos Al Carbón and some veggie lasagna (three flour tortillas with veggies grilled in between and melted cheese on top). That dish was too sweet for me so I had to order hot sauce on the side which made it much more better , the grilled pepper stuffed with quinoa and hot sauce was ok. The grilled pepper was too hard to cut with a butter knife. We did order the tres Leche for dessert which was HUGGGGGGGE.. it was ok and not great. For my meal I got tacos la carte. I loved this concept for tacos. I was able to try all the tacos I wanted. All of them tasted delicious. Been going to RM for years both on the upper west side NYC and Hackensack. Last night at the Hackensack location, my son ordered a hamburger medium. Its was served almost raw. He asked the waiter to have it recooked to his request of medium. The waiter obliged and the hamburger came back medium rare. My son never ate it so when the check came we requested the Hamburger to be removed. The waiter said " let me ask my manger about removing it from the bill" then came back 10 minutes later saying RM will not remove it ,instead will recook it again. By this time , the rest of us were finished with dinner so that offer was ridiculous!. This in and of itself would not stop me from going to RM but the slower service, smaller portions , watered down margaritas and higher prices does I stayed loyal during Covid ordering take out many times but now it's Goodbye RM.. read more

The problem is that it only comes with either beef or chicken. I expressed that I'm a pescatarian and Chef Raul went out of his way to make it with shrimp to accommodate me. He came out and said that he usually doesn't do this but he will because the restaurant wasn't too busy. That was a very kind gesture that I appreciated very much. We have been coming to Rosa for years and it was consistently excellent. I think that it must have been sold because the food has changed. Tonight was the last straw and we will not be returning. We ordered the steak quesadilla as always, the flautas, and guacamole. The flautas and guacamole were up to par but the steak quesadilla was awful. I always order the meat inside to be rare/medium rare and it came out burnt. I sent it back and the new order came out twenty-five minutes later and even more well done. By that time my husband had already finished his dinner. The manager on call was dismissive when I explained what happened and my husband had to go up to the front to talk with him. He had to argue with the manager to get him to take the quesadilla off of the bill. Also we always get one of the booths towards the back of the restaurant and when we requested one tonight the same manager said that they were all reserved. Well, the booths were still 70% empty when we left as was the restaurant. Very sad and disappointed. We looked forward to our meals here but will find elsewhere now. read more

I find this Rosa to be nearly as good as any of their more original NYC locations. Cocktails and food are both excellent. I'm confused as to why the rating is so low... Nearly the entire menu is gluten free, too! Budin de pollo is my favorite, followed by the salmon in poblano cream. But their enchiladas are fantastic, pulled pork carnitas are drool worthy etc. My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here in the semi private elevated back room. Service was excellent for this, as it is in the main restaurant. I will always be a Rosa stan! read more

TLDR: Hackensack location of the Rosa Mexicano chain. Solid if you're in the area or craving Mexican and not trying to trek out to the city. I actually had no idea Rosa Mexicano was in NJ but discovered them while searching for a restaurant with patio dining. This is probably the only other location I liked other than the original on First which is unfortunately gone now. The guac here comes with vegetables and chips/salsa are $4 extra. I thought that was a bit odd but if you're trying go lower carbs, I guess that works. I've eaten at Rosa Mexicano many times over the years - so here are the noteworthy items. Guacamole - Probably what made them so famous. You can customize the spice up or down to your liking. Rich, creamy, so good. Queso Fundido with Chorizo - It's a cast iron skillet packed with cheese and dotted with crumbled chorizo. It's stretchy, fatty, smoky, deliciousness. They also give you warm tortillas to eat with this - personally I like it by itself or with chips. Taquitos - I have a soft spot for taquitos. It's like an egg roll made of Fritos, stuffed with chicken and cheese. What's not to love? Enchiladas Mixtas - One has a tomato-based sauce with beef and the other is with salsa verde and chicken. On my most recent visit, they have a taco with octopus and crumbled pork belly. The tortilla was made of squid ink with tender octopus, a slice of avocado, a drizzle of chipotle mayo. Surprisingly tasty. I actually haven't had an issue with service here since I've visited, despite what some of the other reviews say. read more

I had met up with some friends for brunch. This was my first time visiting Rosa Mexicano and I enjoyed my experience. We had made a reservation and when we arrived were seated immediately. Our waitress welcomed us and brought us waters and warm tortilla chips and salsa. I actually didn't know they had brunch and they had quite a selection of food options. We had started with our drinks and of course we had to start with the guacamole which was made fresh table side in a molcajete. It was so good! We ordered our entree and I had selected the steak and eggs. It was a skirt steak served with eggs, potatoes, queso fresco, salsa, and fresh tortillas. My sister had ordered the chilaquiles with shrimp. We had enjoyed our meals. We ended our meal with something sweet and had the churro bites. Brunch was really good and the service was great. First time at Rosa Mexicano at the Riverside Shops. I was so exited at first as the Host and the waiter were so nice and accommodating. The restaurant looks very nicely decorated. We ordered the nacho's and it was very tasty. Perfect amount of cheese and other ingredients. I asked the waiter before ordering the crispy shrimp tacos if the breading was heavy and I was told it wasn't and it was a "fair amount of shrimp" he should have told me it was a shrimp tempura. It was a medium size shrimp (if that) stretched long ways dipped in batter and fried. I took the batter off to see what was inside because I couldn't taste or see the shrimp and saw that it wasn't a full shrimp. It was half a shrimp. It actually looked like it was pulled and stretch. It's embarrassing and insulting that management thinks that it's alright to serve a dish like this and charge $16.00. The taco barely had any fixings or a side. The carnita taco were a little better, but not great. It's a shame because it's looks like a nice place, but definitely a rip off. Not a place I will be returning to. read more

Very pretty restaurant. Interior is really colorful. They have a bar area separate from the sitting area. They start of with complementary chips and salsa. Brunch comes with a complementary corn bread. They make the Guacamole fresh right in front of you (in a designated area, not next to the table). Their food was pretty delicious. Loved the chicken tacos. The shrimp with rice tasted excellent with the spicy and lime sauce. The staff were nice and friendly throughout the time.
