An absolutely awful experience, I gave this place a second chance and I regretted it immediately. 1hr 45 min wait for food and when we asked what was the hold up or when we could expect our food the server said that it wasn't even started. All the tables around has either been served or turned over and yet we didn't get an explanation. The manager refused, pathetically to come out and explain the situation. We didn't cause a fuss and nicely said we'll leave and go somewhere else. They had the audacity to hand us the bill for drinks and salads. No percentage taken off for their greed of over booking, nothing. Pathetic establishment running solely on incompetence. 50 bucks for soggy pizza too the previous time I had visited or got take out. Spent thousands in here entertaining business colleagues and will never go back. read more

I was told about this restaurant from a current long time frequent visitor of Roberto's. When I first heard the name. I thought I'm going to a Mexican restaurant?? I was told in advance that this is authentic Italian food in an authentic Italian neighborhood with authentic Italian people serving in the restaurant !! yes it was!! Chicago style all 100% true !!Now being a native and born in Chicagoland area my whole life never knowing about this restaurant and trying it for the first time with some clients was superb. Went here to celebrate New Years Eve, and we had a wonderful experience! I'm truly shocked the reviews aren't better, so here I am to set the record straight - Roberto's is a must! Be prepared and wear your walking shoes, this restaurant is massive! It's absolutely beautiful throughout too. There's a walk up, carry out section next door to the restaurant too. Apparently pizza is a big deal here? I'll have to try next time! Our food was incredible - the vodka sauce on the rotolo is phenomenal! I seriously recommend they jar this and sell it. The meatballs on the side are delicious too!! My husband loved his osso bucco as well! And for starters, the house salad - as simple as that is - was soo good! The service was very good, despite it being a very very busy night. I did get the sense that everyone around us was hanging out and in no hurry, whereas we had plans. The service was great. No issues there. The food was ok. It was expensive and was kind of lacking in taste. I had the halibut con jalapeños for $48. The fish itself was bland and had zero flavor. The flavor was only in the guac that was on top. My kiddo had pasta and meatballs. The pasta sauce had zero flavor other than tomato but she ate it. The meatballs were terrible. They had a weird taste and none of us like them so they were left to go in the garbage. My aunt ordered the veggie lasagna. She said it was good. The restaurant itself was very nice. Nice bar area. Last night I hosted my direct reports for a holiday party in my home. We had Robertos deliver our Antipasto salad, Vodka rigatoni and chicken piccata. We could not have been happier... it was delivered on time, piping hot and delicious. Also the amount of food was perfect for our gathering of 13, just as was shared with us by Robertos. Our circle of friends is on a kick to try all the Elmhurst restaurants (albeit we don't live in that city) and it's been fun. Roberto's is another find that we all enjoyed the other weekend. Our group of 8 had the best server. I wish I knew his name, but he got all of our dishes correct - was so attentive and just a joy! We started with the fried calamari and burrata. Both dishes were enjoyed by all. I had the veal vesuvio and my husband had the chicken vesuvio. The vesuvio was delicious - veal or chicken. Wonderful mix of herbs and great on the potatoes. Beautiful restaurant - with an outside covered patio and a large back room for larger parties. I felt the noise level was really good and we can hear everyone in our group. Tried this place for the first time after friends highly suggested it. The restaurant ver a nice atmosphere with an amazing outdoor section. The service was very friendly and professional. Our server was very helpful in choosing a glass of wine. We started off with the fried Calamari, which was nicely battered and fresh for dinner. we had the chicken parmesan, which was a nice size, but the presentation was sloppy. The vodka sauce was amazing. I personally had the special of the day. Breaded bone-in veal chop with Giardiniera. It was spicy but delicious and so happy I ordered it. My reason for giving 3 stars instead of 4 is because the wine list is out of control. That was the only drink list provided. The prices of wine don't match the restaurant and are way too high. This rating would have been higher if service had been even adequate. We've been here before, but not for lunch but their reservations app implied we needed a reservation. So, we reserved a table for 4, but the place was nearly empty when we got there. Told the hostess (who turned out to also be our waitress) that we had a reservation, but she evidently did not cross our name off the list but grabbed menus and led us to a table. One of our party has mobility issues and walks a bit slowly and apparently we weren't moving fast enough because she turned around and said impatiently, "OVER HERE!" When our friend asked a question about the menu, she gave her a brusque answer, as if it was a silly question. I ordered soup and a salad and instead of bringing my meal out with the others, she brought it out first while the rest of our party waited at least 20 minutes to be served. We basically never saw her again until the busboy removed our plates and she came by to ask if we wanted dessert. This was one of those rare times when I was tempted to leave zero tip. Suffice it to say, it'll be a long time before we return to Roberto's. (PS The reservations app contacted me the next day to ask if I had skipped out on my reservation. I'm sure it was because they have a policy about that and have consequences for people who book and then don't show up.) read more

Robertos is a true gem of Elmhurst. We had a waiter name, Dario who was charismatic, honest, and patient which are all great qualities for a waiter, who is waiting on a table of chatty women. He gave us great recommendations and told some jokes we were definitely a fan of him. We ordered the thin crust, pizza, pepperoni, and sausage, and the Caesar salad, and the rigatoni alla vodka with peas and sausage everything was very tasty, and we believe that we ordered the best things on the menu. We ordered it family style and had a blast. Next time we're in Elmhurst, we will definitely stop by again thank you Roberto's for a lovely night out. read more

I used to think I want to go to Roberto's for a special occasion, but truthfully you don't need special reason, It is fantastic anytime. Lunch or dinner. My family was here from Germany and they absolutely loved it! Mario was our waiter ( he is awesome) and Josephine (our waitress on other occasions) is equally fantastic! The food obviously was superb. It was busy but we took our time and enjoyed our drinks and company. I should say there was no leftovers because everything was that damn good! We have now given up going to a restaurant we used to enjoy. Yesterday gave the restaurant a another chance after an experience where we had a reservation for 4 for dinner and was told wait was going to be at least an hour in a crowded area with no bar seats or other space available to wait. Went to another downtown Elmhurst Italian/Seafood restaurant and had a great experience. Yesterday the restaurant was modestly full mid day but only one server. While he worked hard the manager or other help were no where to be seen. Lunch service took over 2 hours and had to wait for our check to the point we were ready to walk out. Food was average and overpriced. Won't be worth the aggravation to go back with so many other options. Shame since we used to look forward to dining at Roberto's. read more

After 35 years of patronage we are no longer going to support this family owned restaurant. Why? They refused a $10 coupon that they sent us for our wedding anniversary on Sept 3rd. They said it was expired since it was sent to us August 27. It's only valid for 7 days. Today is the 6th day from our anniversary. NO where on the email does it state that it is valid from the date that it was sent. However, they chose to use the day the sent it to use as the beginning date. Have been several times across the years and the meals have always always been delicious; tried the Chicken Vesuvio last night; perfection, as was the unoaked Chardonnay. My two companions enjoyed their meals also - but our waiter was awful. We barely had our coats off when he accosted us to take a drink order - seriously giving us no time to even look at a menu. After his third pounce within 15 minutes, we ordered and he was hawking appetizers, which we declined, saying, "Good - leaves room for dessert." This was an early Wednesday evening in an uncrowded restaurant and we three old friends were attempting to relax over our wine before ordering, yet his constant intrusion pretty well destroyed that. Come time for the check, I requested separate checks and he stared at me (so shoot me for not requesting them earlier) and reluctantly acquiesced. My bill was okay but another was incorrect as he had not given my friend the wine she ordered but one priced higher, leading to her questioning it. And he argued with her!!! We submitted our credit cards and once they were returned, we proceeded to give him less of a tip than the suggested 18%. As he was leaving the table, he looked back at my friend and glared at her. Actually looked back and glared at her as he was walking away, opening the folders and looking at his tip. Were I a restaurant owner - even of a street vendor, Mario would never be working in my establishment. Well, I am sure we will one day again return to Roberto's, we will remember him, and he will not be our waiter. Hopefully he'll be gone. read more
