A chic and trendy spot with an amazing atmosphere and and even better food. We started our meal with the bacon wrapped dates... chefs kiss. Fair warning, the red sauce has a nice kick to it! For the main we had the Caesar Salad and the Prosciutto/Arugula Roman pizza. I love a fluffy savory pizza and this one hit the spot. Service was decent. When we arrived we were told that the dining room would have a 45-minute wait but the bar was open. We opted for the bar. Obviously, when seated at the bar you have some trade-offs. It was a bit noisy and the bartenders and hustling to care for everyone, not just you so it was a bit slower. Not a bad thing, just something that was noted. For the lunch special, you get two square slices of pizza and a side salad for $15, which is a great price for what you get. The crust was SO good--pillowy and crispy at the same time! The flavor was tasty and robust. We also ordered the meatball sliders, which came with three sliders and a little spicy sauce to drizzle on top. They were SO good! The sauce definitely added a nice kick, and I even added some to my pizza. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing, and the weather was perfect. Came here with a friend and her kids to catch up on life. We shared the vodka pasta and the hot honey pizza while the kids ordered the Mac n cheese. The atmosphere was dark inside but good lighting to see the menu. They were quick with our service and asked if we wanted everything out together which I love when they ask that. Food wise... it isn't all that tbh. The kids didn't like the Mac n cheese, they said it lacks flavor which it did. The pizza was decent. Nothing special really. Finally got sat after having a beer at the craft beer bar across the street. Table still had dirty linens in the seats. Lovely start... So service was beyond slow. Place was super packed and obviously good by the turnover of tables. Ordered up some drinks that took a minute. Then finally ordered an arancini app. They were ok. Super small. This is my third time eating at this restaurant. The first two occasions I sat at the bar and the service was very good. This evening we sat at a table. My kids ordered pizza and I ordered a chicken dish. When the food arrived, we received the pizzas and a salmon dish. The server indicated that she keyed in the wrong item. The chicken was brought out approximately 15 to 20 minutes later and after my kids had finished their meal. Mistakes happen and we were just looking for someone to come by and say sorry for the inconvenience / how can we make it right. We enjoyed the food and the live music but the overall service experience was a bit disappointing. We will give it another shot and hope for the best next time. read more

It was gorgeously decorated for Christmas and I can see it being a great spot for the family or a cute date night. I came between lunch and dinner and was very surprised with how alert the staff was, normally that's when everyone goes in neutral and service slows down. Ella's was pretty empty when we first arrived, however, by 8pm it seemed to fill up a bit. The indoor space is decorated nicely, very modern and clean. Service throughout the evening was OK. It started out slow but once our drink and food orders were placed the items did come out within a reasonable amount of time. I was very surprised that a place in the US has wine on draft. MIND BLOWN. They offer a house red and white. I'm not typically a white wine person but I decided to try it. It was crisp, light and went nicely with the pizza. THE ELLA'S HOUSE PIE?!?! The "pizza" would be called focaccia anyplace else, but we're here in the wasteland of pizza called Chicago where Domino's comes in ahead of most of the pizza joints I've been to. So how was their focaccia? Very good...but only if you got stuff on it. It's been my experience in Chicago that plain cheese is usually awful. You have to overload the pizzas with toppings to coverup the awful crust, lousy bland midwestern sauces, and completely wrong types of cheeses used. Ella's got it right. Lots of toppings on lightly cheesed focaccia. Albeit not true pizza (it resembles Detroit style, but isn't) Ella's works. But, it's only doable on Sunday's when the price is cut in half. Love this addition to Elmhurst dining! I've been here 3-4 times already. Each visit I've tried a few different options. Great outdoor dining space. Service can sometimes be hit or miss, but this recent visit with Sarah was excellent. We started with the Calamari Fritto Misto which was good. I've also had the Aranacini alla Vodka which was a great starter. The pizzas are excellent! They are more of a pan style and can definitely be split between 2-3 ppl. I've tried the pepperoni pizza but my favorite one is the rocketman pizza. Previous visits, I've had the tagliatelle bolognese pasta which was also a good dish - good portions! A good variety of dishes on the menu at Ella's which is what brought me here for dinner. Great outdoor seating along the sidewalk was nice to take advantage of the great weather, although the trains run often just across the street can be a bit loud. The hostess was super friendly and very accommodating to find a good table. Had to try the onion dip and chips as I don't believe I had ever seen that on a menu before. The chips were perfectly cooked, thin, very light, and not oily at all. The onion dip was disappointing as I didn't get much distinct onion flavor and no kick to it at all. The cavatelli was outstanding! I wanted to try it but didn't want it with the sausage and spicy tomato sauce that was on the menu so my server suggested they could make it with chicken and a regular tomato sauce and the kitchen nailed it. The chicken was cooked perfect, the cavatelli had a good thick density just as it's supposed to have, and the sauce had a great flavor. The environment and food are excellent but staffing could use some work. We sat "inside" but with the open wall it was the perfect mix of feeling like we were outside but in the comfort of air conditioning. I've had the pizza before and loved it. This time I tried the heirloom beet and ricotta salad (and added chicken) which was perfect. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. My only complaint was the slow service. Our server was great but they seemed to be short staffed. My salad got lost in the delivery process and arrived much later than everyone else's food. Seems like the crust is baked ahead of time and they just top it with whatever you order. I've had better Roman style pizza. Fried Calamari appetizers had more veggies than the calamari... Not great. 2nd time here, first review. I ordered their steak salad. It was good. The only change would be slightly less dressing. I also ordered a Sidecar drink. It was the server/bartenders first time making it. The first attempt was slightly off with the proportions. He brought me a second attempt which was a lot better. Sunday lunch was a wonderful experience for several reasons. The restaurant was open according to their posted store hours. A few years ago, this would have been a silly compliment. But these days, we have had several encounters in which we would arrive at an eatery and notice the doors are still locked even though it's past their usual store open hours. Needless to say, service was attentive, friendly, and efficient. Our party of six shared the smoked trout dip, calamari, charred pepperoni pizza, white mushroom and truffle pizza, Italian cheesecake, and tiramisu. The smoked trout dip is a tad high on sodium but I really like how it was served with flaxseed crackers. The pizza are served Romana style, therefore rectangular and fluffy. They specialize in Romano pizzas, which remind me of Detroit style pizza since they're square and doughier. I came here during lunch and was able to get the $14 lunch special, which is 2 slices of Romano style pizzas (4 options of flavors) with either their pasta fagioli soup, simple arugula salad, or house salad. The service here is great - our server was personable, attentive, and super nice! She knew it was our first time and offered recommendations. She was a gem. Farmhouse Romano pizza: 9/10. I loved this - it came with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, and cheeses/spices. I think I prefer thin crust over Romano style in general, but I reallyyyyy enjoyed this. Ella's House pie Romano pizza: 9/10. So unique! It came with zucchini, mint hot honey, ricotta, and other cheeses/spices. It was different, cheesy, and yummy. Simple arugula salad: 10/10. The roasted red grapes were everything. The pistachios and burrata elevated the salad, too, and this was just so refreshing and light. Calamari fritto misto: 10/10. Such great calamari that I wanted more of it! The bar snacks are on the smaller side but perfect for 2 people. This dish also had fried eggplant and artichokes in addition to the calamari. The accompanying sauce was fire. Arancini alla vodka: 9/10. First time having arancini in years and it did not disappoint. I've never heard of Roman-style pizza until Ella's! We were walking by and were drawn by their gigantic, thick bread like pizzas. We were quickly seated without a wait and the staff were super friendly. The inside is casual with lots of seating. We started with the Aranici appetizer, which was absolutely amazing!! It's vodka sauce risotto fried balls... burst of flavors that just melt in your mouth. I highly recommend it! Now for the pizza, given the size, we ordered a single pizza to share between two people. We ordered the Arrabbiata Cotto. The pizza bread was very fluffy. Overall, the pizza only had sauce, cheese, and toppings loaded into the center of the pizza which left many parts of the pizza empty. This left us with big areas of just plain bread, which was disappointing. I also felt like the toppings didn't go together and the flavors played separately. There were too many Giardiniera peppers that overpowered everything else on the pizza. I personally would never order this one again. Given my great experience with the Aranici appetizer, I would definitely give Ella's another chance. read more

Every time that I walked past this place seemed like an absolutely amazing place it was always busy, the smells, smelled amazing. The food looked amazing from a distance everything that one would want from an amazing restaurant that I keep hearing about. My concern is and I want to make sure everyone is aware of this I do not think this restaurant understands how cleanliness works as most of the silverware, cups etc etc had caked on food. Now I understand things happen dishwashers break but the silverware was wrapped up by hand meaning a staff member did not see the caked on food it was absolutely disgusting which also brings up the other point that if our silverware cups and plates were dirty what about all the silverware cups plates etc that The cooks and chef make the food with were they clean? The sad part was I was super hungry and I really wanted to try their food but after me seeing the cleanliness issue I lost my appetite which made me very sad. I kindly let the hostess know that we would be leaving as the cleanliness of this establishment was below any sort of health inspection rating when it comes down to the cleanliness of the utensils and China for sure. I did not check the bathroom I did not go any further after finding the issues with all of the silverware plates etc etc but I have been food poisoned in the past and this will not be a place I'll be testing that with. I will tell you that the hostess and the waitress was very nice the hostess understood and she said she was very sorry that we had that experience. I let her know that I will no longer be coming back and I will be letting all my friends and family know not to come to this establishment ever as I said that My family, friends, and I have gotten food poisoning from reasons like this in the past from other restaurants. I went here on a Saturday to try this restaurant after walking by and seeing the plates of others. It is a pub style restaurant serving about what you would expect. Service was great, and there wasn't a wait at all. This was pretty surprising since there were a lot of people here the day prior. Regardless, the food was fantastic for me. The Arancini alla vodka was a great way to start the meal. The risotto inside was packed with flavor, and the vodka sauce complimented it tremendously well. Overall, it was a creamy, crispy dish that is worth getting. This place serves Roman style pizza, which is different because the bread is baked before most of the toppings are put on for the most part. I didn't think I would like this kind of pizza, but the arriabata Cotto had the perfect blend of peppers, prosciutto, cheese, and sauce. On another occasion, I got the crispy eggplant and blackened shrimp dish for $15 off their Starters menu. There was nothing Starter about it, this was a full meal and it was fantastic delicious. Since I was traveling, my friend scored the leftovers and got to take almost 1/4 of a pizza home (I'm a bit jealous as I love pizza and would have loved the rest for a snack later, lol. All good.) We sat outside, and the only downfall was that people were walking next to us throughout our meal. Ella's has excellent lunch specials for $14 a person.
