I'll admit I was a bit skeptical when I heard the advertisement for Rosati's on KCLB. Finding good pizza, let alone genuine Chicago Deep Dish out here in the Desert is difficult. I took my husband there after work since i'd heard the advert on the way home and wanted to try it out tonight. We ordered our pizza and some appetizers and sat down to wait. My expectations were blown out of the water. Not only does Rosati's make genuine Chicago Deep Dish, they also have a few other things that I have not seen or had since moving out to the West Coast. Ordered the famous Chicago Deep Dish pizza on Super Bowl Sunday. I don't know if the owner was there or someone else. I was very very disappointed. The pie was about 2 inches high. However the dense corn bread like dough was 1 1/2 inches thick and dominated the taste of the pie! And yes I have had deep dish pan pizza in Chicago. Cute little restaurant service was great. I called and ordered a deep dish pizza when I was in Palm Springs by the time I drove to La Quinta it was ready girl at the counter was exceptionally nice. Let me say that I went to this place because I wanted a deep dish, pizza, and Giuseppe's doesn't open till four on a Saturday, which is why they just lost my business because this pizza is amazing. Amazing. Their sauce needs a little more flavor to it but other than that it was amazing. The crust was good the toppings were good. You can't put a lot of toppings on a deep dish, but I had onions and sausage and olives, and it was just wonderful 10 out of 10. I read some of the reviews and was seriously questioning going here. We first fell in love with this pizza in AZ. Well, we decided we would give it a try. The pizza itself is cracker thin and cut in squares which we really like. The sauce is very savory and the toppings were great. The location is pretty small and not exactly inviting. I live in lake havasu and rosati's there is wonderful. Here I ordered a double crust cheese pizza and it was awful. It was so thin I thought it was thin crust, the cheese was so sparse you wondered if it even had cheese. I called and said I think it is a thin crust in error. The girl who answered the phone was incredibly rude. Without knowing my name or order she said no it is a double crust, that is your order. They need to take lessons from the lake havasu restaurant. Legitimately shocked this place is still open and operating. As a Chicago transplant living in LA, I was so thrilled to see Rosati's open in La Quinta. I'd go every chance while visiting family down in the desert. It tasted so authentic to how it was back home. I've been going for 2 years now. I have decided that I'll no longer be giving them my business. I was in town visiting and tried giving them a call for dinner around 4:30. No dial tone or anything. I assume they open at 5 (their hours for May-October aren't online and it's extremely questionable) and hear tone, but no answer. Just cell service saying line is disconnected. I call a bunch of times, maybe they're just busy. Still nothing. Check their Facebook page? They haven't been active in 6 years. Their Yelp page? Just lists 2 different numbers for their La Quinta location. No mention of anything. Their website? They don't even have their California locations listed on there! You have to go out of your way to find it through Google! I decide to go to the store myself to see what's up. I arrive and see a piece of paper, on the door. I fear the worst- they're closed for good. The open light is off. Everything inside is boarded up. I get to the door and see this- they're just closed for the day and will be open tomorrow. I get they're short-staffed, but no kind of message on their phone? No message on their Yelp or social media? This isn't me complaining at my first inconvenience. I've ordered pizza, showed up when it was supposed to be ready, and still had to wait an hour to actually receive it. They've gotten the order wrong at other times. Terrible....terrible....terrible..... will NOT ever be back !! The guy behind the counter acted as though he was doing us a favor even taking our order. He wouldnt even bring us our water ...the tables were filthy...it was overly warm. The owner finally came in....carrying supplies.....he grumbled to clean the tables......he finally brought our water. We had ordered a side of meatballs and sausage and the owner finally brought them in two Plastic cereal bowls like from the 99 cent store and they were all greasy. Don't kill me but I did not try the pizza. I love pizza but I just didn't feel like it....but I ordered a calzone, which is basically a pizza folded over = totally bland. I couldn't believe the crust and cheesy insides with tomatoes, onion, olive, and chicken was totally without italian spice/flavoring. Ordered the deep dish 14" and it was amazing! Was given a 50-55 minute wait which I think is reasonable because they are making their pizza fresh and made to order. Saw the reviews on yelp for this place and thought twice about going there. Well, we like pizza and decided to give it a try. We had a garden dinner salad. Simple, fresh and good. We ordered a Chicago style pizza and they take about 40 minutes to make so we had our drinks and salad while we waited. One guy who was running the place brought us out some garlic/ Parmesan cheese bits served with warm marinara sauce while we waited. I don't know if this is common or not but it was good customer service. Pizza turned out to be very tasty and with fresh ingredients. Not super thick crust like you would think but not disappointing. The Chicago style pizza was good. Then the double dough and the thin crust tasted like if you bought a store dough. If it was not for the Chicago Style I would give it 1 star. I am from Chicago, moved here 5yrs ago, I use to enjoy this restaurant in LaQuinta for the pizza & the Italian beef sandwiches because it had the same taste that the restaurant in Chicago had, but lately the pizza has not been tasting as it use to, & the prices have gotten to high. Went to purchase a sandwich from the menu that is online (la Quinta ca) and the prices & the items are so different from what's on line & what's in the restaurant. I just had the most ridiculous thing happen to me when I walked into this store. I guess their POS system went down , the girl said she couldn't take my order so I suggested she write it down on a piece of paper and hand it to the cook, then calculate the price , add the tax and I will pay cash.
