I should have specified Banana FOSTER crepes, or they could have clarified too. Well, the crepe itself was a bit too thick and the bottom of the crepe had several hard "charred " pieces of something, not quite sure, almost seemed like a plastic material. It was an ok crepe until I chewed on the material in my crepes. I am unsatisfied, I spent $56 in total with the 2 drinks, burrito and crepes. I will not be returning. Initially I discovered this spot on Groupon as a newer business that peaked my interest. At the time they actually had a different name. They were once called Dolce Cafe, and apparently the partners had split, so the name was changed here. Dolce cafe still exists, though now at a different location in Chula Vista. (Been there too) They prepare a very good cafe de olla here, with cinnamon and piloncillo(basically brown sugar. The last time it was way too sweet, and I even let them know and asked for drip coffee to top it off. Portions are not large but adequate. Flavors are very good from the items I've ordered. The place tends to draw nicer dressed locals, and even those who just pop in for coffee or espresso beverages. The location itself is a little odd, with a really steep downhill parking lot adjacent to a Burger King. It is also pretty cramped inside with small tables and chairs, though they have an expanded patio area outside. I have had chilaquiles, breakfast platters and sandwiches and was never disappointed. One thing to note however, the service and wait times might challenge you. So on our last visit, it was 15 minutes to order and 20 minutes more for our plates to arrive. The food is delicious and flavorful! It is a tiny little hole in the wall but you can't miss it because it's pink. The interior is quite small, as is the patio however, it is nicely decorated with comfortable seating. They get super busy and have a lot of pick up orders. My sister in law came to SD and surprised us with her visit, so we were looking for a brunch place nearby. I chose this place and it looked unassuming from the outside. Luckily the wait wasn't too long! I ordered the Monte Cristo, which was one of their specialties. It came with turkey, ham, and Jack cheese inside French toast. It was delicious. I loved that it was sweet and savory, but also different from Monte Cristo sandwiches I've had before. Other items ordered were the green chilaquiles, red chilaquiles, and the steak and eggs. The poblano is in a cream sauce so I wish I had ordered my husband's tasty green sauce which is a tomatillo base with no cream. Service was excellent but be aware they are making food from scratch so orders don't come up super quick. It's a small venue but there is seating outside. We also tried the bananas foster crepe. It tasted nothing like bananas foster but was still pretty good...and not too sweet. My daughter had raved about this place for weeks since it's opening last year. I would say, within the past year, I must have eaten at Rose D' Amour Cafe with family members several times already. Honestly, the place had caught my curiosity since the days of Yeung Lew, a Chinese restaurant before Cafe D' Amour (same location and size). On my first visit to Rose D' Amour, (with my adult children), I was immediately enamored by its cute, charming and interior decor. From the appearance of what the outside looked like, I had a hunch the inside would look equally nice. Well done! We were greeted and seated immediately next to the window area. On all occasions, my preference was to eat indoor and not in the patio. Yes, service is on the slow side but was worth the wait each time. Just don't come starving ;) Servers need to be more attentive, be not so forgetful and basically communicate with their customers while waiting for their order. As for the cook, big shout out for his delicious, decorative and good-portioned dishes. Favorites: chilaquiles, mole, omelettes, crepes, waffles, and drinks (matcha raspberry and ferrero rocher latte) Non favorites: open til 2pm Lastly, although not a coffee drinker, I hear Rose D' Amour serves them well with an assortment to choose from. A friend recommended this place, located next to Burger King. It's a small place, located on a hill. I wish I took a photo of the parking lot. It's like on a hill/steep slope. There's a small indoor seating area. Not good for groups as there's a small tables inside maybe good for 2-4 people each. There's an outdoor patio area but it's literally outside and to the side, so I didn't see it. The cafe is located right on 3rd ave. Service was slow and unfriendly. We weren't greeted upon arrival. I think actually cos no one was at the register. I think we sat ourselves. It took a long time to get our orders in, in which I saw the servers go in and outside to the patio quite a few times before finally tending to us. There was a bit of wait on the food coming out as well. I ordered chilaquiles- it lacked flavor. Portion looked promising and the prices were in the higher side, so I was expecting better. The servers were bilingual and very welcoming. The food was really good, only thing we weren't very big fans of were the potatoes- they under seasoned and you could tell they had been sitting as they were hard and somewhat cold. But regardless the food was very good. Loved the presentation on the plate. Now, personally as a icee coffee drinker their Mexican Mocha iced coffee was incredible, it was slightly sweet with a bitter hint (which is a great balance). I've been waiting to try this place for a few months. Finally went two weeks ago, and what a disappointment. Small place, which I like very much. I'm a big fan of family or nonfranchize places. 4 people in the restaurant (two people at each table) and then me. One person walked in to get a cup of coffee, so not busy at all. Placed my order (1 coffee, 1 tea, 1 bagel w/cream cheese, and an egg sandwich). After placing my order, I asked to sit out in the patio (it was hot inside at 9am) and was told that it was reserved for a party of 20 (no big deal). After 45 minutes (and having to ask for water 4 times), my food never arrived. Well, to be honest, the plain bagel, coffee and tea did. But I guess 45 minutes for an egg sandwich was not enough time for them to make a sandwich. I asked twice when my food would be coming. It was then that they realized that I hadn't been served. Not what I expected for a small place that was not busy. Oh, and the party of 20 for the patio that I could not use? They never showed up in the hour I was inside burning up. They didn't forget to give me the bill at the end of their poor customer service though. I'm sorry to say it, but I won't be going back. Me hope is that this post helps the Cafe and staff get better. I ordered from DoorDash their chilaquiles and the churro French toast for brunch and I ate half my meal and saved the other half for next meal. I usually do have to add extra sauces to my eggs like hot sauce but the salsa verde was plentiful and so tasty, I loved it! The churro French toast was good. Good portions for the dishes priced and I was able to have some leftovers. I have not dined there in person so next time, I will update review on the service and ambiance.
