Vanessa's Cocina Mexicana is a cute little spot with a good atmosphere, and I did appreciate that they offer an early bird special (I forgot to take a picture of the menu and special). The food itself had good flavor, but unfortunately my plate came out cold instead of warm. I was starving and didn't want to complain, so I just ate it anyway. Another reason I'm knocking off some points is because I asked the waitress for an extra side of rice and tortillas, but never received them. Service wasn't terrible, but definitely could've been more attentive. Also, just something to note: horchata does not come with free refills, and water is served as bottled water for an extra charge. One thing I will say is that this was one of the only restaurants not completely packed during the holiday weekend, which made getting seated easy. Overall, I'd probably give this place another chance because the food had potential, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Hoping they can redeem themselves next visit. read more

We went in for a late breakfast. I ordered the hash , my mom the pancakes and grandma the Vanessa crepes. We also ordered an egg for my son with no seasoning & they got that wrong. I enjoyed the cafe de la olla with chivalry abuelita, on its own wasn't so great a bit sour for some reason. The crepes were okay. I enjoyed the hash with tortillas and beans. Service was slow and I had to get up multiple times to ask for different things. So that was a bummer. As well as on the menu it didn't say the crepes were going to be drenched with chocolate syrup, I would have opted out. read more

My sister was excited to take me to her breakfast spot and I was excited to find a new option. We both ordered the Mole chilaquiles, they came out looking great I didn't mind the smaller portions but I was so disappointed when my first bite of mole was lukewarm and worst when my beans were were just cold. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with this Mexican eatery. I was going to have a large bowl of menudo, but when I was the rajas omelette, I just had to go that route. The omelette came with roasted poblano peppers, onions, corn, cheese, and topped with a cilantro cream sauce, a drizzle of sour cream, and freshly sliced avocado. The omelette came with a side of chilaquiles, refried beans, and three corn tortillas. The omelette was terrific. The poblano peppers were outstanding inside the omelette. The eggs were well seasoned and tasted great. The cilantro cream sauce was very tasty and complimented the omelette very well. Both, the side of beans and chilaquiles were great. The beans were cream with a nice robust flavor and good seasoning. The tortilla chips on the chilaquiles remained crispy and the red sauce was flavorful. It was a great breakfast. Vanessa's offered a lot of good cooking. The menu is quite large and has a lot of good home cooking. The eatery offers a lot of inside space and non outside. read more

Courtesy and service. Customers shouldn't have to wait outside to be seated. Otherwise they would be waiting outside all day.

Good food, but when you ask for salsa they tell you it's a 3 dollar charge. Not a good way to treat your customers.

Today, my fiancé and I waited for over 20 minutes just to get someone to come tell us they could not help us because it was not her area to serve. Then we waited some more just to have someone else come over to tell us that our server is on her way. That's over 20 minutes sitting and waiting, and not even a glass of water offered to us. It's Saturday morning and we wanted to take my Mom to a nice breakfast. Vanessa's came up with flying colors on Google. We ordered an appetizer and breakfast. Breakfast arrived and we received El Especial #2, Mollete, and Chilaquiles sencillos BEFORE the appetizer. Although the restaurant wasnt busy, they couldn't even bring water glasses after requesting them. The Chilaquiles were over charged even when canceling meat and beans since our guest was vegetarian, and then felt as though we were tageted because it was a "burden" to ask to make the Chilaquiles "sencillos" which is what the waitress offered. We felt as though we were targeted- the tortillas were served almost after we were done eating, the appetizer showed up well after our entee arrived and we weren't allowed to cancel it. We are a HUGE Hispanic family that lives in Chula Vista that love to experience new restaurants the area. We were truly disappointed at the lack of communication, compassion, and service. Been here once before it was okay. I got the chilaquilles classico's. Nothing to write home about, but it was a full house on a Saturday morning and the service was good. Forward to today, Friday morning 7 adults 6 kids total in the restaurant, 2 waitstaff, at least 1 cook and 2 bussers. Not only did they not have several items listed on their menu and daily specials board, but they also couldn't get our orders out all together. Mind you, I got the chilaquilles classico's(this time with mole sauce), which came out first. My wife got a bowl of consome which came out with it, but her fruit plate, (pico de gallo) came halfway throigh the meal and my fries at the end. By the time we were leaving it was us two and the table with 3 adults 4 kids, but i still had to remind the waitress to bring coffee twice. The menu is super varied and thourough but without the items its just words on a page. The food is average, nothing to write home about, and the prices are steep for portion size.
