Destroyed my nails :( I came in with healthy strong nails and left with completely damaged nails by the tech. The tech did not properly remove the old polish, and the aggressive filing and harsh technique left my nails brittle, thin, paint still partly there and peeling. Gel mani chipped after ONE day. Probably the most rushed mani/pedi's I've experienced. Not even sure she fully cut my cuticles. The entire experience is run down. Coming from California nail salons where I pay the same price with a much cleaner, sanitary environment, way more color options & types of gel brands to pick from--- this place needs an upgrade. Really beautiful manicure, I love that the manicurist took her time to make sure the dip polish wasn't too bulky and that it looked very clean! I only docked a star because the polish looks speckled and isn't quite as opaque and I hoped but that also happens with neutral colors so I'm chalking that up to the polish. Leon is really a nail artist--truly much more than a nail tech. He pays great attention to detail, cares about doing exemplary work so much that I have begun to spot his work at other establishments I frequent! I ask. They say his name. Seriously. My nails are really claws, like two-inch claws. I joke about getting them "re-clawed" every two weeks. Leon is a superstar (or he should be, in my book) in his own right who did not back-down when he saw my super long nails, while other salons were rude, insulting or wanted to charge too much for sub-par work or all of the above. This includes my previous salon (who shall remain nameless as my techs left without a word and the new ownership left me high and dry, refusing to do my nails at all when I called). Rose Nails answered my call with professionalism, kindness, humor and an open and friendly spirit. After months of going to Leon and getting brilliant and consisent top-notch salon service, my nails are back to being the long, sculpted, solid set I had when I was getting them done south of the Mason-Dixon line. Leon is so skilled, cracks and breaks are rare. Apparantly, long claws are not common in New England but that did not stop Leon from turning the chunky, cracking 10-claw, too-fragile mess I had into something beautiful that I never have to worry about. And my nails are part of me, not just because I've had long nails for 38 years, but because they are part of my religious expression. If you saw me in full ceremonial robes, you'd see why. I'm a mystic minister. Leon is a truly gifted artist and a blessing to all who sit with him, especially me. I would not trust these claws to just anyone. He is the best all-around, in technique, in nail art, in customer service and in this region...that I have found. In fact, no disrespect to my nail lady down south, he is the best I've known in 38 years. I can say the same about Joanne. Perfectionist and very gifted. I sat with her once. Amazing! This time I requested Joanne and asked for a tip and dip treatment and I was very happy with the end result. She was meticulous with my cuticle removal, she was accurate on the requested shape and she ended up providing a flawless finish! I am so happy with the end result. Updated 6/24/2017: Because of my first experience (below), I brought my 2 sisters, and cousin with me to get our nailed done at around 5 o'clock. We walked in and sat down to pick our colors and for 25 MINS we were not even acknowledged!! Then another woman walks in without an appointment and gets taken for a pedicure right when she walked in. This place needs to learn that when 4 lovely black women walk in trying to spend money, they need to ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR CUSTOMERS WHILE THEY WAIT so they don't feel ignored/forgotten. When we finally got up to leave they tried to get us back by calling out with a weak "hi how are you?..." ...we don't like being disrespected, THAT'S how we are... Terrible customer service. But after talking to the women in there and seeing the establishment we are very impressed! Not only was this place clean but it was also quiet! This is my second review. I know everyone is pissed Jenny is gone, I was too. I have been going here every other week to get an acrylic fill with nail art and waxing done for two years. I have suggested her to every person who has asked about or even looked at my nails. I adored her. It's over now. She's gone. She had family in Texas and she didn't want to run a salon, it was her husbands idea. Let her go. I was put off at first and was more critical than I should have been because it wasn't what I was used to, which is why I think all of these loyal customers who are currently bashing Rose are doing so, but I gave it a chance. Leon has done my nails twice and very well both times. He doesn't half ass filling acrylics which is something I judge harshly and he is spectacular at nail art which only a couple places in Waltham can boast. A friend recommended me to Leon on Instagram, I texted him on the 2nd regarding my nails. I told him I'm available next week, he said Monday, @11:30 the first time on the 7th... then asks me again if I wanted to come on the 14th... @12pm. Then asks me on Sunday if I can come in at 12:30 on the 14th. I'm not sure if he knew the weather was bad but he kept changing the times. But I personally did not know it was going to be raining bad. I texted him saying I can't make it due to the rain and he said it was fine, that he would make an exception. I proceeded to ask him what other days he can do... this man gone tell me next Wednesday. I told him I wanted him to do it because of the great things I've heard about him. He asked me to make a deposit without having a set time. And I asked for my money back cuz this was getting too much for me, he asked me "how's that my problem". I'm not sure if he wants me to miss my flight due to the fact that I want to get my nails done on Weds... this is an example of booking too many people at once and having poor customer service and terrible professionalism. Went in today for a quick lunch time manicure. I had made an appointment for 1145 but really didn't need to as the salon was empty. Salon has good selection of polishes (both regular as well as gel). Janet worked on my nails and was very friendly. She did try to up sell me additional services. She applied the gel in super thin layers and ended up needing 3 coats. But after it was done, the Polish looked a little bubbly and uneven. There was a small dent on 1 finger too (see photos). If I was desperate, I would go back. But disappointed that the final product isn't as smooth as I would have preferred, even for a $25 gel manicure. read more

Came here with a group of my college friends a few days before our graduation to get manipedis. We originally made a reservation for 3 people, but when another fiend wanted to join they were happy to add her to the reservation and. We each got standard manipedis which cost $34. When we walked in we knew we were not all going to be serviced at once, as they did not have the staff to do so. However, I really appreciated that they staggered our service so that none of us were sitting alone in the pedicure chair away from the others. My stylist was very nice and made some chitchat with me were I told her that my friends and I were graduating that weekend. Her and her colleagues then offered all four of us small nail art designs for free. So sweet! It was a very nice experience and all my friends were satisfied with their nails. One star off only because I think one of my cuticles was clipped too hard and it hurt a tiny bit and bled. Just to note: They do accept credit cards but they only accept tips in cash! read more

They are usually busy so make appointments and don't worry if you have to wait a few minutes. Does any business ever take you at the stroke of your requested time? No. They have so many colors in OPI and Essie. Gel and normal polishes. All ladies do a wonderful job. Jen is my favorite. Weekends are the busiest time but they are amazing and worth the wait!! Let me start off by saying that I am a generally non-confrontational person, and I did come on Yelp and read all the reviews prior to entering this salon, so I should have known better and trusted my fellow Yelpers and never gone in here. Scene: empty nail salon; no customers, two techs and a man and his daughter? I had a full set of acrylics that I wanted to have taken off so I could get a plain, shellac manicure. I sat down with an older woman who started right in on my nails; clipping them with a large nail clipper and then alternating between an unused plastic nail tip (the kind you get when you get a fresh set of acrylics) and cuticle nippers-- no acetone soak, nothing. Just straight-up clipping and ripping the nails right off. THE MOST painful thing I've ever experienced. Then, the woman gets to my right index finger and ended up clipping my real nail. Instead of saying "oh gosh, I'm sorry," I got: "half your nail is broken." I said, "I know because you just clipped it and ripped it off." she replied, "no no half your nail like this underneath" I literally laughed out loud and said "ok I just watched and felt you rip it off but regardless just leave that ONE nail short since the rest of them are long, I guess." Per common knowledge of having acrylic nails, when you take them off it is well-known that your nails are excessively weak upon removal. This woman then gets the automated nail buffer/file out and starts buffing down my real nails. I said "excuse me that really hurts because there's borderline no nail left on there." she said "well you have ridge so I can file or not file" so I asked her to just use the block buffer to manually and GENTLY buff my tissue-paper nails. The hits just kept on coming. She had to do FOUR coats of shellac (not including the two base coats that were applied in circular-- yes, circular brush strokes) because after the two coats of color I asked her why she didn't paint the part of my nail closest to the cuticle. She said "because cuticle is skin." I said, "I understand that, but you didn't paint the NAIL that is directly above my cuticle so it looks like I need a fill and these are my real nails so can you please paint my ENTIRE nail so I dont need to come back in 3 days when the paint is halfway down my nail?" She rolled her eyes at every remark I made, including when I asked her to fix 3 nails that she made air bubbles on. She even had the gall to ask me if I wanted a pedicure or my eyebrows done. Even if I needed either of those services I would never agree to additional self-torture that I experienced with a simple manicure. I was left with a thick, lumpy, uneven, painful gel manicure, and unless you're willing to risk it for David (the owner who has several great reviews on Yelp) I would never go back to this place. read more

I can't believe no one has written a review on Rose Nails yet! Just about everyone in Waltham gets their nails done here. Why? Because David and his crew are the best! David knows nails! I started coming here when it was owned originally by I think it was his brother in-law back in 2002 and continue to keep coming back. Although I haven't been here much lately, because I'm poor and don't really need to since I have long nails, but whenever I need to get my nails done or feel like pampering myself, this is the place! The location is a decent size considering it is Moody Street, and the place is immaculately clean. The staff are super friendly and will go above and beyond to cater to your every nail indulging needs. Roll up to the nail station with their leather chairs and relax. Get yourself a pedi too! The prices are fair, but if you think about it you are getting your every dollars worth due to the customer service, quality, cleanliness, and experience that you get here. If you break your nail, David and his team will happily fix the problem. If you're looking for a product, he will gladly order it for you if he doesn't have it in store. Excellent neighborhood nail salon. Pretty standard pricing for the area ($35 for combined mani/pedi). One of the ladies there, Wendy, is my favorite. My pedicures consistently last a long time, like 6-8 weeks even. I have even brought in my dad (who has trouble trimming his own nails due to a movement disorder). This was a terrible experience right from the beginning. I scheduled a regular French manicure, and when I got there they took me right away. But during the entire shaping and cuticle cutting the technician was convincing me to get shellac instead of regular. After I politely declined several times she kept pushing, explaining it was only a $17 dollar difference. She kept pushing up until the nail paining process began. Then she began convincing me to get an eyebrow wax. Again, she wouldn't take no for an answer for the longest time. I have been at salons where they suggest a Shellac or an eyebrow wax to inform you about your options, but this was way too much of a sales push - not exactly what you're looking for when getting a mani. The manicure itself was pretty bad too. The white part way too big for my taste and when I asked for them to be smaller, I got attitude about asking her to make them a bit smaller. She also wouldn't do two coats of the light pink color that goes on top usually. I had to ask her and once again got push back. And I've had French manicures many times before and always had positive experiences, so by now I know how it should look and be done. She painted the nail sideways and therefore left parts of the nail near the white unpainted. I've never seen it that way, but I didn't question it, but I should have. When I noticed on several nails that there were parts of the nail that should have been pink, not painted, I asked her to fix it and once again got push back, until I insisted. This salon was decent. I went with a colleague for a pedicure midday and without appointments were started right away. The space is clean, the tools are sterile (although I didn't see them wash the tubs) and it was my first pedicure by a man. Hooray for equalism! The price was on par with any run of the mill NYC nail stop, although it did have an overwhelming smell of nail salon chemicals. The nail techs weren't very receptive to being gentle, and I have one nail not quite rounded, but I loved that they used actual paintbrushes.
