This place came highly recommended and we were NOT disappointed! The menu was HUGE, and the prices were so good! The interior is contemporary yet comfy, the staff is super friendly and helpful. There are food specials everyday of the week and it is impossible to decide what to order. Our server was helpful in us deciding. Monday's are a smash burger special but we decide to try the Fish Taco special, and they were the bomb! The drink selection was pretty incredible too. I chose an IPA called Little Lobster and it was fab! Tip with the draft menu, scan the QR code inside the drink menu to get the most up to date draft list. I really wanted to like this place because I love BBQ, even though I'd heard mixed reviews around town. Unfortunately, my experience ended up matching the negative ones. After being seated, we waited about 15 minutes before anyone greeted us. Once our server arrived, we found out that about half of the sides we wanted to order were already unavailable. We decided to give it a chance anyway. When the BBQ platter came out, the portions were surprisingly small, especially for the price. The food itself was just okay--nothing terrible, but nothing that stood out either. I could hear a cook/manager having a heated discussion by the bar which sort of killed the ambience. Overall, it was a disappointing experience from start to finish. Between the slow service, limited menu availability, small portions, and average food, I left wishing it had lived up to the hype. After a long cold hike we were really excited to finally try something other than fast food in Hornell. Service and atmosphere were fine but overall the food we had was tough to recommend. We started with Taiwanese chicken bites as an appetizer. These (picture attached) were piping hot and the dipping sauce was ok but the bites themselves were pretty tough and chewy. They were 'crispy' but so chewy and tough that they weren't very enjoyable. The side salad was very nicely prepared and generously sized. It was pretty hard to eat because the small square plate it was served on was overflowing. The best thing we ordered was the vodka sauce pasta with shrimp. It was rich and flavorful. The other entree was a beet salad with chicken. The beets and chicken were fine. I didn't understand raw onion slivers on the salad and personally, I think onions and dried cranberries are both odd for a beet salad. What is classically on a beet salad and missing from this one was some form of cheese. Goat cheese would have been really appreciated. Overall I liked the feel of the Racalto's but mostly didn't enjoy the things we tried. read more

Service was not good but I wouldn't say that is the fault of the restaurant. Also, they have one brunch day and they were out of brunch items at 11:30am. Update: Went again. This time, service was better. Server went back and rimmed the glass for my bloody mary after I pointed out that it stated, on the menu, that it should be served that way. We landed for a meal with many people ordering different plates and it went off without one hitch! We laughed a lot and were noisey with kids and everyone talking at once. They placed us in a small room so we wouldn't bother other diners. They have two banquet rooms, one smaller, one larger. It's a favorite. read more

Ate there last evening. My wife ordered the mini bbq plate. The pulled pork was dried up chunks that appeared and tasted days old. Her potatoes were brown and dried out like they had been in an electric roaster for 3 days. Brown - not golden. All inedible. I had the top menu item - NY Strip Steak. Mkt price 34.00. Worst steak I've ever had. For starters, it was tasteless and extremely tough. It had nearly as much gristle and fat as it did meat. My dog loved it! I don't mind paying up for a good food. I do mind paying up when the food is terrible - it was terrible. The top menu item should be the signature entree. My dog never complained! I'm a foodie and we eat out a lot. Their lose! We found this place on our way to the Dr. K winery, and it was a fantastic find! I can always tell when a menu is pretty straightforward fare, but then randomly has something like a Bulgogi sandwich listed, that there's some kind of personal connection. I ordered the sandwich based on my hunch, and it was amazing! After talking with our server we learned that the chef did indeed have an ethnic influence, and he came out to talk with us as well. It's a great casual location, and I hope that we can return on our next visit (and order the exact same thing because it was that good!). A+ recommend! read more

First of all, you don't come to Racalto's just for the food, you come for the experience! Kristen and Alex were our waitresses and did an amazing job. We had such a good time talking with them and the owner Joe that it made the whole experience very memorable. The atmosphere was fantastic, the service was impeccable, I had drinks coming out as soon as they were finished. The servers were so friendly and made us feel like family, I genuinely cannot say enough good things about this place. The owner Joe was so personable and spent a lot of time with us making sure everything was perfect and providing some good laughs. I have read most of the negative reviews and none of them make sense or feel even slightly justified to me. Give this place a shot and I am positive that you will not regret it. I can't wait to come back again! Also! The prices! The quality of the food MORE than makes up for any of the costs and that is not even to say that it is expensive. I have eaten at several of the other restaurants in town that were similarly priced and didn't even serve up the same fantastic quality as Joe and Jay at Racalto's! They could easily move down to Virginia Beach and be successful, its awesome to be able to come home to visit family on leave from the military and have a perfect spot to relax and enjoy some fantastic food and people. Went to Ricaltos on a Sunday for a couple of beers and to see what improvements had been rom when the place was Club 57. First thing that was obvious - nothing had changed internally or atmospherically - the place was still club57 with a new name, sterile and void of anything that would make a person remain, espeially for a meal. The only pertson I saw in the place was a guy on a cell phone behind the bar - evidently he was one of the owners. I sat at the end of the bar and was the only patron in the place. This "barman" (and I use the term loosely) looked at me a number of times but kept playing with his phone. Finally he came to serve me and eventually got me a beer after dealing with another person (employee I think) after taking my order. I finished my beer with the intention of having another and just relaxing. The so cvalled barman was at the other of the bar - STILL on his damn phone and ignoring me despite looking at me a number of times. After about 15 minutes of sitting there he finally asked if i wanted another beer - I promptly told him no left $5 on the bar and walked out vowing to never return OR recommend the place to any other person. The promote the place as "fine dining" and con people in by offering free ice and so forth. When I go out for a beer and or a meal I want something I can enjoy, get value for money, good service and a friendly atmosphere - the only place in Hornell you can get that is at Marino's. In fact, I'd recommend Applebee's before ricalto's - and that is sad! In response to the owners reply - he has made a number of assumptions and I certainly do not appreciate being called a liar. What I excperienced occured some time ago (about a month or two after they opened) and I can tell you that the only remodelling I saw was a partion between the bar area and the dining area. The bar was certainly the same as it was when I used to go to Club57. The outside area off of the bar may be new - maybe. Bottom line here - before making allegations and accusing a "patron and reveiwer" of being a liar - get your facts right. PS: I don't like Applebees either - just another overpriced chain joint. The fact I'd recommend them over you pretty much says it all I think, and now being falsely acccused of being a liar is just the icing on the cake. I wish the folks who run this the best of luck. I am sure that the food is generally good also, as a casual pub-type fare. My wife and I did not stay long enough to find out. We had eaten at this location for many years--when it was Club 57. The vibe was the old Upstate NY supper club experience, something rapidly disappearing. We missed the 'Balloons' iteration as that did not last long. Racalto's has been running long enough now that we decided to give it a run for our 32nd anniversary. A significant life event, don't you think, and we had celebrated several anniversaries there before. What could go wrong, right? I called at 2PM to book a reservation. No chance for sketchiness here... No answer from their main line. But it asked me to send a text or email about the reservation. I did both. Then called back again at 3PM--still no answer. This is when the Merino's backup plan began. Finally at 4:15PM I connected by calling back someone real! We went through the specifics--time, preferences, etcetera. Discussed whether the floor plan had changed and discovered it had not. Locked in a front side section table for 7PM. All seemed good. Then we arrived. All of this is appropriate, as we live a half-hour and 30 minutes away from Hornell. The host(ess) greeted us, and after pawing through several pages of the res book, could not find any sign of us. But we were seated, and the intro service was good. Waters, and a drink order filled quickly. Our server appeared, and left us to peruse the menu. And I mean they really left us. As in 20 minutes later we had not seen them or anyone else. The wine and beer selections were good--although the wine offerings were a little too deep for each variety. JMHO. It was also enough time to really parse the menu and decide that it was not that exciting and argue about compromises. Argument is not something one wants on an anniversary. At the end of it, we enjoyed our drinks, the special time being out together, and then paid our bill. It seems that they had even forgotten to log in our drink choices and had to be reminded. You can't make this stuff up. We went on to Merino's (another location of an anniversary, family milestone or three...) and got right back into that intimate, food experience vibe and service we were looking for. There was the mega-horrid snowstorm on I-86 going back home, but that is not directly germane to this review... For the unseen magnitude of this eatery's missteps, I am giving a very generous two stars. You, the owners need to pay better attention to strangers. Just a thought. While in town my friends and I wanted to try the new place in town we went in after our son's football game. Sat at the bar. Matt was friendly, attentive and engaging. He took our order and everything came out quickly. My order was wrong. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, but it came out as just cheese. Matt had a new one come out asap. It was very good. My friend had the taiwanese popcorn chicken. She said it was okay. My husband had the Q salad and said it was fine. Our wine and beers were fresh. We were going to go back with other families on Sunday for lunch, so I called in advance, but was told we couldn't bring our dog, even for outdoor seating. Unfortunately when we travel, he travels with us, and we couldn't leave him in the hotel, since we already checked out. So, our sons and the rest of our group went elsewhere. Twice now, we have gone out of our way to visit this gem! First time we visited (from Ohio) was kind-of by accident- we were hungry, they were open and had room for our truck & horse trailer in the huge parking lot. Six of us went in and came out wondering what Foodie Gods smiled on us! Our food was all excellent, from soup to burgers to salads, all perfectly cooked and or served. The staff were amazing. Very nice and attentive. Been there three times now and will ALWAYS make time to stop in whenever we are driving across PA!!! Locals are so lucky to have this place!! Tried out Racalto's for the first time. We were immediately seated, and the restaurant looked nice and clean. We ordered fried cheese curd as an appetizer, a fish fry, and salmon. The cheese curd came quickly and was very good. The fish fry was very greasy and soggy on the bottom, and my side was forgotten. I let the waitress know and it did come out eventually. The salmon was good, the baked beans were ok and a little cold. Once our bill came out, it was around $90. Overall, we would probably not return. read more

Was with one of the cooks from the beginning and I have watched this business grow from when they first started hiring till now and I have been lucky enough to enjoy a meal with my children... as a hornellion to see such a business owned by a hornellion also and know the community so well and filters to our communities wants and needs is just what our little quaint town needed... I love to listen to other ppl I don't know say "man went to racaltos last night what an experience food and service fabulous" makes me smile and proud... when you go to racaltos your not just a guest enjoying a meal with friends or family you, you are treated like family... New restaurants are always tricky to start up and get running... at racaltos they aim to please and take every criticism and figure out how to make it into positive... I have seen many restaurants over the years and this is the ONLY place that has communicated fully with the community and made sure to accommodate and change things as they grow... us hornellions are so lucky to have such a place to be home away from home to have a nice meal we didn't have to cook for our family... good job guys...to my friends who are head chefs and kitchen managers good job... to all the staff keep up the good work you guys work hard and keep thriving...
