Came to Grand Rapids for a business trip and we were looking for a place that wasn't your typical mall eatery. We stumbled upon Rose's. The ambience is very personal and this service is as well. I must give kudos to be stupendous service we received a while dining here. Our waitress Annie was over-the-top and without giving specifics, she made our meals very special and the best it could be. in fact, she knew that we were going to split our salads and entrées and so she had them brought out in separate plates/bowls instead of bringing us our own plates and letting us deal with it ourselves. Such a class act. We sat on the patio and ended up right next to the fireplace, which was really cool. It was at night so we couldn't see out the windows but I'd imagine during the daytime you'd have a nice view of the lake. At first I couldn't make up my mind on which cocktail to order. I thought about ordering the pumpkin drink (I cannot remember the name) but I ended up going with the Holiday Mule, which was probably the best Moscow Mule I've had. Our server brought me a sample of the pumpkin along with my drink so that I could have a sample of it. It was really good and I was glad to taste it but I am happy I went with the mule. Only because I am not a serious pumpkin fan and this drink was definitely a pumpkin drink. We ordered the butter not squash soup, the goat cheese fondue, the peasants salad, the macaroni and cheese and she hooked us up with a special dessert. The peasant salad was really good. I know it sounds simple but the quality ingredients was surprising and delightful. The macaroni and cheese was pretty good. Very rich and I would advise to split with someone rather than try to conquer it all on your own. The goat cheese fondue was just OK. I don't have any real complaints was that I didn't it wasn't totally suited for my palate. My date loved it though. And the dessert was absolute insanity though. We had a sampling of the peanut butter and chocolate cake and we had a small bite of the brownies. Both were just to die for. Overall, I would definitely dine here again, although I would probably order a different entrée and different appetizers. And again I must mention how amazing my service wise. This place has nice atmosphere and was very busy. I am not sure what the draw is. We had horrible service. The waitress ignored us. Most of the time she was by another table talking and laughing. After our food was brought out by a runner, the waitress didn't ask how the food was. She said, is there anything that you need from me. Our drinks and water were not replenished. Bottomline Service was awful. We ordered fish and chips. The fish was good. The fries were pale like undercooked fast food fries. The price we paid, I expected more. I expected hand cut fries not what we were served. A place like Rose's you expect the service to be top notch and all the food to be excellent and beautiful. I was so excited to visit Rose's for the first time yesterday. I've heard so many great things from my coworkers who live near there. We sat on the patio which had a beautiful view of Reed's lake and the boats that were docked. We arrived at 11:30 and were seated right away. They got very busy shortly after. There were a few things that made my visit not that great. 1. We ordered cocktails. I verified mine wouldn't have vodka in it as I don't like the taste and she said it was made with gin. She brought me the drink and said she was wrong, it was vodka. So I asked her to bring me a new one with gin. 2. When I ordered a mimosa later on, it came with a hair in it. She promptly apologized and brought me a new one after I showed her. 3. My friend ordered the Parmesan chicken plain with no red sauce. They brought out the chicken with red sauce so she had to send it back. 4. Service was quite slow. They were busy though, so I'll give her that. Food: Root chips with goat cheese and pepper aioli - These were fantastic! Looked to be sweet potato and beet chips. Both dips were very tasty. I was highly impressed with this appetizer. It was quite large. Enough for 4-5 people. Parmesan crusted Chicken with Asparagus and Mashed Potatoes - the chicken was a little bit dry. But the crust was fantastic! The asparagus was delicious and cooked perfectly. The garlic potatoes were very flavorful with chunks of potatoes in it. I didn't think the red sauce paired super well with everything, but to each their own. Overall, I will be back to give it another go. Absolutely horrible service and let's be honest the food is maybe a little bit better than what you would get at MDW airport. The wine is good, but that's because it's not prepared by anyone employed here. I've never tried the cocktails. When two hostesses cannot get a waiter to come to your table - that's a problem, especially when you don't have a full house. I've never seen such an imbalance between actual staff that takes orders and staff that is just responsible for refilling water glasses and running plates from the kitchen to guests. Also, PSA - hostesses and wait staff should be wearing a mask over their nose and mouth, not just their mouth, especially since MI continues to set records with COVID-related hospitalization. read more

I had a great meal with some friends at Rose's. The restaurant' location on the water here is worth the visit. You'll need to get to the gaslight district and take a short walk through a park. The service here was great and our waitress was top notch. We tried the seven layer dip for an appetizer to share and we were happy with it. For the meal I had the Mahi tacos and loved it! My brother ordered the chicken curry wrap and it was gigantic! One of the cool things about this place is the root chips with fondue dip! So so so good. Rose's is a classic. It's one of the Gilmore Restaurants but I just love a table overlooking Reed's Lake. It's infinitely satisfying to watch the geese swim up to the shore at sunset, enjoy a glass of wine and great conversation. Rose's has ambiance in spades. The service was impeccable. Pilar was our server and was incredibly gracious. Our orders were correct and served quickly though we did have an early seating at 5pm. I had the pear salad with chicken. It was quite tasty if a little dry. I didn't get a chance to ask for more dressing because our conversation at the table moved rather swiftly. I also had the blueberry pie for dessert, which was outstanding. I didn't even know blueberry pie could be outstanding, but it was! Parking is usually easy with free valet. Rose's does get very busy so the key is to choose an unusual seating time. I've eaten at Rose's before. I usually sit at the bar because I can be seated much faster. I've had the Mahi Tacos which are incredible. Their root chips are very tasty. I do think it's easy to be invisible to the wait staff as a single person at the bar but it's not enough to stop me from returning. There are several options for GF but Vegan is a little trickier. I loved everything about this place. The service was excellent, our waitress had a great sense of humor and was the right amount of attentive. The food was delicious, I ordered a salmon plate. It was a balmy, sunny evening in Western Michigan, so we decided to eat near water. I searched Yelp and found Rose's in East Grand Rapids, right on Reed's Lake. When we arrived, there was a wait of 45 minutes, but they invited us to sit on the 'waiting couch' on the deck and have a drink. So we did. I had a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc for $8.50, which was reasonable. We also ordered the root chips, based on recommendations from Yelpers, and so glad we did . Yummy!! We declined both the goat cheese fondue or other dips, and we didn't need them. The chips were great on their own, and the perfect snack with our drinks. After about 40 minutes, we were seated at a table on the deck, which was just lovely. You really can't believe it is in the middle of East Grand Rapids. We ordered a burger and the fish tacos. They were both delish. I'm not a fan of blackened fish, but no problem--they just grilled the mahi-mahi. There were three soft tacos--corn--filled with fish, slaw, and avocado. They were perfect, and priced at $16. Overall, it was a lovely evening, the food and drink were very good, and we enjoyed it thoroughly. read more

What a beautiful place to have a nice dinner. The restaurant is set on a very picturesque lake and the views are fantastic. I was even more impressed with the food it was so tasty. I had a tomato basil cream soup with a house salad and the potato crusted walleye. Everything was perfectly cooked and well plated. The food was very appetizing and my dining experience was a 10. I tried this restaurant after reading reviews & for the setting. Cute place on the lake. Service was ok too. But coming from California i guess is all I can say is this must be good for Michigan dining. I couldn't even stomach my dinner (Parmesan encrusted chicken).. . It was mushy, & flavorless, mashed potatoes, meh and felt old along with the 2 pieces of old looking dry broccoli. We had Saturday morning brunch at roses. Sat directly on the lake overlooking the yacht club. We'd recommend getting the blackened crabcake for an appetizer and the glaze salmon which was delicious. Of course the company matters and it was fantastic and also watching the ducks come by and the beautiful sailboats on the water. This is the place to come on a Saturday morning to chill on the weekend after a long weeks work. Fantastic ambience... lovely scenery and amazingly service!
