I tried this restaurant after reading reviews & for the setting. Cute place on the lake. Service was ok too. But coming from California i guess is all I can say is this must be good for Michigan dining. I couldn't even stomach my dinner (Parmesan encrusted chicken).. . It was mushy, & flavorless, mashed potatoes, meh and felt old along with the 2 pieces of old looking dry broccoli. I dare you to look me in the eyes and tell me Roses doesn't serve the best damn plate of fish and chips you have ever tasted. Most fish and chips recipes have the fish and chips, but almost none have the most important ingredient: good ol' English blood, sweat, and tears. The Winter Bruschetta was legitimately the best thing I have ever eaten. I highly recommend if you pay a visit or Rose's. The outdoor service was super fast despite Covid! We didn't mind sitting away from the heaters, and since everything was so fast, we weren't too cold when we were finished. They told us our server would be over in a few minutes and she came right by. We had a gorgeous view of the lake while enjoying the amazing food. I ordered the Maple Salmon and my friend had The Yellowfin Tuna. We both agreed this was the best meal we've eaten since before Covid! I will definitely be back. read more

Been going to Rose's for many years. Was disappointed today at lunch for the first time. I had the Margurita pizza. Thin crust, sparse slices of tomato covering a VERY thin layer of cheese with a few sprinkles of basil. Not enough tomatoes, basil or cheese to give any flavor. This was nothing to write home about. Very impressed with this place, despite the not so great reviews. Everything we ordered was delicious. I had the butternut squash soup which was absolutely delightful and the ahi tuna entree. My asian salad entree was out of this world. Both very different flavors but so delicious. We also had to have their famous root chips which were great too! This place was hopping and I remember practically every table being filled. The variety of entrees they serve were all very different which was interesting and yet well executed. 4.5 stars An East Grand Rapids classic. Consistently good food. Rich, filling mac and cheese. My uncle remarked that the walleye was the best he had ever had. Beautiful setting. No reservations if your party is less than 6, so be prepared to wait. In summer, this restaurant has a beautiful view of the sailboats on Reeds Lake, so be prepared to wait a while. I would suggest not ordering pizza (as I did the first time) because you may miss out on other delicious options. Service is generally quite good. read more

Coming back here for the first time in 8 years, and I have NO IDEA why I stayed away so long! We arrived and we're seated immediately (granted, it's a Tuesday)... our server, Rea, was attentive without being intrusive. I am gluten free, and she had great knowledge about what was available for me to safely eat. I ordered the Kentucky Mule to drink (highly recommend!). I ended up ordering the chicken cheese sandwich minus bun with sweet potatoe fries. By FAR the best sweet potato fries ever. They were perfectly crispy., and not overly oily. Another friend ordered the butternut squash ravoli. She NEVER cleans her plate when we dine together, and her plate was totally cleared when she was done. She said it was amazing. Visited Rose's today during a work lunch and really enjoyed it. We sat on the deck with a great view of Reed's Lake. There's a shaded area of the deck that offers seating to those who prefer it without losing the view. The food was very good and the service was acceptable. It took a little longer than expected to place our order and to get our food but definitely not a deal breaker. The place was busy during the lunch rush, but there was no apparent wait for a table. Parking is always a challenge, so plan accordingly. Street parking is available if the lots are full. I haven't visited in a few years but overall I was very pleased with the experience. I'd definitely recommend this place and will be visiting again in the future. The summer months really make the outside seating and view of the lake a treat. read more

Came here after an upper GI endoscopy, so I apologize if my judgment seems impaired! Lol! We had the baked brie as an appetizer. It came with walnut bread with dried fruit in it (it wasn't raisin- I think it was cranberry) and some fresh fruit; grapes, sliced apples and pears, strawberries and dried cranberries. The baked brie was delicious- hot and creamy- not covered in puff pastry, just baked as-is. I've never seen that before. I do wish there was some more bread served with the dish, but it was probably healthier to eat the fruit, so we didn't ask for more. I had the Mac and cheese without meat. This was a creamy sauce with peas and pearl onions, topped with melted cheese and breadcrumbs. It was very rich and tasty. My wife had the portobello mushroom flatbread. Inside there was roasted red peppers and spinach, with a goat cheese sauce. This was honestly the best sandwich I've ever had (a bite of). It was served with pasta salad and hand made veggie chips, which were also yummy. Service was great. We will definitely be back! read more

We haven't been here for 10 years but were delighted to find yesterday that Rose's is still an outstanding place! The food was fantastic: we loved the gazpacho (spicy!), I enjoyed my crab cake, and my husband polished off his hamburger special, with onions, mushrooms, and gouda. Rose's sits lakeside, on the site of a former caramel corn stand at the home of a former permanent carnival site. As a nod to the site's history, you'll receive a sample of super delicious caramel corn with your check. My daughter had a wood fired pizza with pesto, and it was to die for. The pasta salad and fish tacos were awesome too, and the crab cakes were some of the best I've had off coast. When you visit, opt to sit on the deck so you can enjoy your drinks and food while overlooking the gorgeous lake. read more

Rose's on Reeds is pretty good, but I still prefer Blue Water out of the Gillmore Collection. The indoor atmosphere is pretty cozy. I wasn't a huge fan of half-outdoor section, which is where I ended up sitting. I noticed there are quite a few similar items on the menu as their other restaurants. Overall, the food was good. The location is nice. This place has the tendency to get very crowded and the wait for a table can be quite long. read more

I understand the one reviewer who longs for the Rose's of the past. This place has a great history going back to early days of East Grand Rapids when it was part of the old amusement park on Reeds Lake. When I was in high school I would eat Rose's several times a week--back then it was still a simple little place on the Lake where you could get a great burger--nothing fancy at all. Things change--heck all of Gaslight Village has changed in recent years. When I go back to East for a visit I always go back to Rose's to have lunch or dinner. While the food is fancier, the prices are higher, and the building nicer, in some way it's still Rose's to me. I can't see giving Roses a low score because it has changed. The food is good, the people are always nice and the view of the Lake is still as beautiful. I like this restaurant, the way it was and the way it is. It's a part of my past--and my future--I'll be home for Christmas in a couple of weeks and I'm going to Rose's. PS: Rose's is in East Grand Rapids on Reeds Lake--not in GR as it is listed. Update: Went back to Rose's over the holiday and had a wonderful meal-- enjoyed the snow covered lake view and the great company. read more

This is a lovely location with very nice service. However, my last two visits have been underwhelming. The food is way over priced. I ordered fish and chips, which was pretty basic. The preparation and flavor was fine. But at $20 it was way over priced. On my previous visit I ordered a chicken pesto pizza. The chicken was very dry and took a long time to get served. My perception is that people keep coming back for the location and ambiance. The food is pretty mediocre. Not bad, but not great, especially for the price. read more

We've been to Rose's twice: once in the late Spring, just my husband and myself, and the second time as a family just before Independence Day weekend. Both visits required a very short wait (5 minutes) for a table, not unheard of for a busy, local favorite restaurant. I loved the summer Gazpacho, the house made root chips, and the Portabello mushroom sandwich. The patio view of Reeds Lake can't be beat, particularly on a warm, sunny summer day. We had excellent servers and service both times and I know we will be back. It's the perfect restaurant to take out of town guests looking for an upscale casual dining experience. read more

On my most recent trip to Grand Rapids, our group stopped at a beautiful spot on Reeds Lake: Rose's Restaurant. The place has a great history, dating back to 1901 when this lake in East Grand Rapids was a hub with pristine beaches and an amusement park. The lake still draws a crowd, and Rose's is definitely a little gem in this lovely spot. For my lunch, I had one of the restaurant's specialities, the Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast, served with a tomato-pepper sauce and yukon gold garlic mashed potatoes. (Note: I opted out of the asparagus, but that is usually included too.) It was delicious! I actually ordered the smaller portion plate; I love that they give you the option. To top it all off, the bring you a little caramel corn with your check... a nod to the days when the restaurant was a place to get beachside snacks like popcorn. It was probably my favorite part of the meal, which is saying something, because the rest was good too! If I lived in Grand Rapids, I would come to Rose's on sunny day to enjoy the view and the food. We showed up on a Wednesday night around 5:30 and only waited 20 minutes for a table outside, not bad! I got a blackberry soda and ordered steamed broccoli for my son - it came out quickly which I appreciated! The bread and olive oil with cheese is so nice to snack on as you await your food. I ordered the Restaurant Week three course menu which starts with a cold cucumber soup - honestly I was a little unsure if I'd like it but it was very flavorful and nice for a warm evening. I chose the chicken as my entree and the skin was crispy while the meat was still tender - the sauce was rich and dreamy! The dessert was a chocolate cake with raspberry sauce and whipped cream - I probably could have shared but I didn't! My husband got the seared ahi tuna with pearl onions, edamame and cashews - I tried it and it was very good. My mom is gluten free and got the mahi tacos, she really loved that they were not too spicy but had a little heat to them. My stepdad got the fish and chips and I had to stop myself from stealing fires because they looked so crispy and perfect! He though his gin and tonic was a little weak but other than that we were happy overall! read more

My husband and I have been here for dinner a few times covering every season. This past summer we thought it was a summer only restaurant. This fall it was beautiful on the lake also and thought it would not work in winter. Winter is beautiful also. Sitting in the restaurant overlooking the lake you could be anywhere but Grand Rapids. I feel it has a New Hampshire lake feel. The restaurant is very cozy every season in the front also. It is always busy with a great vibe. Cliental are upscale and well dressed casual and always having fun. We love that Rose's has a gluten free menu somewhat limited, but the pizza makes a great starter. We have found the wait staff doesn't understand ingredients on other menu items. One visit the waitress told us we couldn't have the risotto and we asked what was in it and she said she didn't know but we couldn't have it. We asked her to find out, she came back to take the order and said we couldn't have it again. We sent her back and she finally said it was ok to eat. She was very unprofessional and we feel didn't match what the restaurant is. She belongs in a diner/deli. Other visits were better, but not polished. The bar area is a great area to have a drink and wait for your table or just to stop in and have drinks. Great vibe. We will continue to come back, because it is fun and the food is good, not the best, just wish the service could be ramped up a little to match the cliental. read more

Such a pretty place to share a meal. We were looking for a nice restaurant with great reviews while here for the week in Grand Rapids. Wasn't too far from the hotel. Parking was a bit tough as it was very busy on this Sunday evening and theres a small parking lot. We had our meal on the heated patio right off the water. Our food was more than good. It was pleasing to the eye and the palette. We ordered tbe Peasant and Farro salads to split as appetizers between the four of us. Best idea ever!
