I have been here 4 or 5 times. I like coming here. I have visited most of the other seafood wholesalers (without purchase) on the street but for whatever reason, I just like the vibe from Rose's. The others have the same or relatively similar prices. Some sell certain fish that the other doesn't. But here is why I like Rose's: 1) It's clean 2) Fresh fish (best to come in the morning when their shipment for the day comes in and the fish has clear eyes, not cloudy or semi-cloudy eyes) 3) Good customer service in person and over the phone. They are more than welcome to answer any questions you have. Like seriously! (I like to ask questions) 4) They have some chairs if you need to sit down. 5) They have an elevator 6) They will give you as much ice as you want Some downsides are: 1) Not all the fish is Wild-caught (much more healthier) and as one reviewer said, it would be VERY helpful if they labeled which ones are. But you can always ask. 2) Would also be nice if they listed where their products come from (but most people don't care). Found out they can stuff the fish with crabmeat if you request it. And of course, they will cut, clean, gut the fish any way you desire. read more

All I can say is that Roses is the place to go for fresh seafood on the Seabrook side of the bridge. The selection they offer is enormous. They have what ever you are looking for. Fresh yellowfin tuna, salmon, red snapper, rainbow trout, flounder, drum, catfish, tilapia, wild Gulf Texas shrimp (peeled, head off, head on), crab meat, gumbo crabs, Wahoo, oysters, scallops, and more. All fresh. They also have all the products you need as in mixes, crab boil, Poche's cajun sausages in the freezer, Slap Ya mama, and more. The staff is friendly and helpful. I bought some of the freshest tuna, cut into steaks right before me. This block of cold, bright red fish wanted me to take a giant bite out of it. But I didn't. I saved that til I took it home and seared the shiz out of it. For a little over $7 a pound, it made for two giant servings. And the scallops, well, I haven't cooked those yet. Rose's is a very large space, however they don't have nearly close to the selection that Golden Seafood down the block does - however, they smell a thousand times better. It's newer and smells straight up like Clorox. And the Latino guys working behind the counter were muy amable. I noticed that they were selling their blue crab have de-shelled, which cuts out half of your work/time. And if you need to buy seasonings, Mexican candy or odd little Asian knicknacks (def overpriced), you can also scoop that up. I'll be back after my next day at the beach, a visit at Kemah or my Gma's. But I'll be sure to check out all three seafood shops - each a stone's throw away from each other - to scoop out the pricing. read more

I started venturing here from a suggestion by a co-worker and I liked how I could actually see them filleting my catfish, rather than turning their backs to me or having to buy some pre-filleted and questionable authentic catfish. However, my most recent trip may have made me sick...The fish had somewhat of a bloody smell to it, and I think the most recent fry of it created a feeling of nauseousness. They also do not de-vein the shrimp for you and their selection of such just doesn't seem to be as plentiful as others around. I've always purchased seafood from Rose's but this last time was a disaster. I live 4 hours away so I always purchase a bunch and freeze. I bought 7 pounds of jumbo shrimp and 2 whole red snappers. The fish was fresh and tasty. The shrimp was another story. I deveined, washed the shrimp, and battered them with my flour/cornmeal with no seasoning. These shrimp were so so salty and they didn't have that "fresh Gulf" taste. They tasted like any frozen shrimp at Kroger with a boatload of salt. I don't know if you guys are freezing these due to weather, but you should advise customers about them being frozen and heavily salted. I will buy from your competition from here out. read more

Fresh seafood at a great price! This is my go to vendor when I'm in the mood for cooking yo some seafood (on a weekly). They have a great selection and their prices... Shocking! One thing I admire is their number system used to service clients quickly. Sometimes they cab get really busy, and the number system streamlines customers like no other. On this particular visit, I came in for some crabs. Initially I was hunting blue crabs (which they had at $2.99 per lb), but of course my eyes began to wonder... I noticed some very large pink shrimp which were priced at about $6 per lb! After further investigation, I discovered that they are sweeter in taste and resemble the same flavor as lobsters. What the what?! Now you know I had to try these. Decided to splurge a little and picked up some Super Colossal Snow Crabs out the freezer (I didn't even know there was such a size) to complete this meal. When I tell you I've found a new love in these Red Alaskan Shrimp... OMG! Definitely a must try! read more

If you love being by the Water as I do the trip to Rose's is not bad. The 45 Construction is pretty much complete or not as bad as it has been for years. Stop at Clearlake Park on your way back for an enjoyable Peaceful outing. Great for Children/Grand if you have them. Or lunch in the Park if you go early, which maybe best. You can buy a cooler and they will pack it for travel. It was my first Visit, so I can't compare Rose's to others near by on Price or anything else. There is Construction in the area so look for the Detours. I Prefer to buy American Seafood, but they do have so non American, I just won't buy it. I we helped by the or one of the Owners. Well the lady that made their Video, I bought Red Fish which was Priced $2 or more less than the Markets in the Houston Area. I would like to see them offer Red Fish Fillets like they do others, even Bulk/Case Price's. I bought Pealed, Deveined ready to cook Shrimp, $1 more per pound but the work already done so you decide. Working on changing my diet a bit so I hope to go there once a month for a while, then as needed. If going make the trip worth your while cost me $$$. I have been going to Rose's since she was in a little place. The seafood here is so fresh and the prices reasonable. The variety of fish, shellfish (all sizes and variety of shrimp, oyster, crawfish) including lump, dark and crab claw meat has always been delicious when cooked. Fresh! Here I can find Pompano and Grouper, Snapper, Flounder and Trout. Crawfish tails from Louisiana were so fresh, I thought I was in LA eating the Etouffee I made. The freezer case has all type of Sushi grade fish. They used to carry large bags of Potstickers that were very good. Now, they have smaller bags, but I can find them at our local grocery stores. Now, the only thing I have purchased and was not happy with, were clams, but I should have known the price was indicative of the quality. Everything else has been great throughout the years. They are in a new elevated building, with a ramp and elevator for those who can't walk up stairs. The workers will pack your fish with ice for your trip home. We try to remember the cooler when we go. They sell some Louisiana seasonings, etc. as well as crab boil. It is the only market we go to even though there are many on the street in Kemah. read more

We went to Rose's specifically to get Gulf Shrimp and it did not disappoint. Not being from the area, we followed our GPS to locate the shop, passing numerous other seafood retail stores in the same neighborhood. Our dilemma...do we go to Rose's or is another one better? I will never know if one of the others is better, we decided to stick with Rose's. The shrimp was excellent, and the price was great. It was not busy when we were there, but the salespeople were helpful and friendly. I didn't see a lot of other kinds of fish, so not sure what all they sell, but we went for shrimp and it was delicious. We had a choice of shrimp with heads, shrimp with tails, deveined shrimp with shells, or cleaned completely shrimp; we chose the deveined shrimp with tails still on because I think the shells help enhance the flavor of the dish. This place is worth the drive from the city to Seabrook! Here, I fill my cooler up with the freshest seafood in prep for an ole' Cajun boil! Prices are reasonable, quality is straight off the boat, and the service provided adds convenience and value. Bring in the cooler. They'll provide the ice. I usually get 10+ lbs of shrimp at a wholesale discount. Medium, large, x-large, jumbo, and mega shrimp.. head-on, head-off, peeled, and unpeeled. I usually get what's on sale but every now and then, I will splurge and grab a few mega shrimp. Big ones taste better than lobsters! They have those too along with cheap blue claw crabs, snow crabs, and the almighty king crabs. I get a few pounds of that too. There's also many different filets of fish. It all depends on what's in season. The weirdest thing I've seen there was a giant squid. I almost bought it.. Could of served up calamari rings the size of tires! I'll sometimes grab crawfish here too! Depending on the season, it can get pretty cheap. It's usually about $1.99 per pound but occasionally, it'll drop below a $1. We get 10+lbs along with that wholesale price. When we get those mudbugs home, we fill the sink with them, wash them up, and watch them raise their claws in anger of the situation. After that, we get the boiler setup, throw in cajun spices, corn, and the potatoes. At different cookin' times, we add the shrimp, crabs, and the crawfish. When they're done and out, we dig in. A spring or summer craft brew makes a good pairing. Rose's delivers high quality, wholesale prices, and great service allowing for a delicious seafood boil. read more

My husband was taken there by his grandfather and told it was the ONLY place to shop for good fresh seafood. I have to say all these people are right. Rose Seafood has tons of great seafood at really really good prices. You can get everything from shrimp to live blue crab, from shark to halibut, from frozen tilapia fillets to fresh whole salmon. Rose Seafood is on a little spit of land that had been lined by fresh seafood purveyors and one Pappadeax, before IKE hit. After IKE, all but the newest, highest built building were gone. My husband and I went down there a few months after the storm and saw all the debris and rubble that were still there. We teared up as we surveyed what was left of the cheery tile facade of the old Rose Seafood building. The strange gardens in back were completely gone. Visiting the only remaining seafood shop left us feeling cheated and hollow. Rose Seafood reopened a few months ago in a much bigger, better, and higher facility. They are able to carry a greater variety and a larger stock of seafood now. The place is still packed with happy seafood shoppers. The new place is next to the ruins of the old store. It has pretty good parking right there. Bring your cooler, ice, and an appreciation and hunger for fresh seafood. You won't be disappointed. read more

LOVE Rose's! The underside of the Kemah bridge has some fresh seafood, but Rose's boasts the highest quality and care with their fish. They always have sushi grade salmon and tuna - and often other fish as well. There are beautiful whole fish, always in great shape and fresh. The crabs and other love seafood is always moving and lively, which is a big deal. There's a plethora of shrimp, all sizes. Same with the scallops - bay or sea. I've never received bad fish here and the owner refuses to bring in anything she's worried may spoil. The surrounding fish markets have these horrible ammonia smells and grungy floors and tanks. While Rose doesn't keep live fish, her quality is still above the rest and there's never a suspicion of growing bacteria. I take this SO seriously with raw fish and am very impressed. They hail from Japan and use that standard. Highly recommend Rose's for anyone needing fish, sushi fish, or other seafood. Always great! read more

Took the family to Kemah with the hidden agenda of stopping by this place :) of course Kemah is just a tourist trap and the $80 dollar meal from Saltgrass, that featured the worst shrimp of my life, was ruining my family day until we went back across the bridge! I've never been to an actual fish market, so, the smell of fresh fish stunned me a bit as I walked in BUT after a few seconds I was quickly putting all of my attention on the fresh fish before me...I walked around simply amazed at all of the different types. I left that day with a 7lbs of blue crab and a couple pounds of Extra jumbo head on shrimp...yum! I've been back many times since then picking up various things like red-snapper (bought for almost $4 and it was almost $18 at HEB), 200 oyster (ended up being almost 260 pieces), more shrimp and crabs! On my last trip I took a buddy there and we ended up walking to all of the others too, just to see what the competition was like, and there was no comparison. I walked back to Rose's knowing that I have found THE place! One quick tip...Take a cooler if you have one, their cheapest was 3.75 I believe. We went there a Sunday morning after reading several good reviews. It's a great place, prices are incredibly low compared to what I'm used to (just moved from DC) and everything is fresh. My issue is that I'm really into "Sustainable Seafood" (I'm not trying to promote on Yelp but check online if you want to learn more) which means that it is really important for me to know exactly where my fish and seafood was caught. We all just assume that it's from the Gulf but there is absolutely no mention of origin at this fishery, so with 90% of the seafood sold in the US coming from Asia, there are reasons to doubt. Located off of Highway 146, Rose's was one of the first fish market establishments in that area. When you drive off the exit ramp you will notice that there are many other fish markets to get your seafood, but Rose's is definitely the best. Rose's (originally supposed to be called "Ross's, if not for a sign mix up) was submerged below sea level after Hurricane Ike, but that did not drown out their owner's passion for fish or their customers. Rose's now touts a beautiful new raised building (fear not handicapables, I believe there is an elevator) that seems to be really clean every time I go, which is unusual for places that sell fish. Now seafood is seafood, so prices are not like dirt cheap or anything, but expect to find prices lower than any other competitor. Despite this, Rose's does not skimp out on any freshness whatsoever. I went once with my uncle, who once operated a successful sushi restaurant, he mentioned that the fish was really fresh and that it would be excellent for sashimi, though I would advise against doing so unless you have previous experience in preparing raw fish. The selection is amazing as well, and the employees (if you can get their attention) are very helpful. Fish are laid out on ice beds and you can tell them which parts you want and how much of it you want. They are totally open to giving exactly what you want. The fish is cut, cleaned and packaged for you on location. They also have a frozen foods section full of more frozen fish (escolar, different species or tuna, unagi, etc) and some random frozen asian food, The customer service is also good. One time my dad ordered fish but he forgot to mention that we still wanted the fish heads for broth. We didn't notice this until we got back home, and my dad (who was being kind of mean) talked to them over the phone and they said that they would take care of it. We just drove back and picked up the fish heads, at no cost/no hassle, they were totally understanding about it even though my dad was being cranky and upset. A couple drawbacks of Rose's include the busyness of the place. Despite Rose's amazing working hours (7:30am-6:30pm everyday), the place is always jammed packed with restaurant owners, families wanting to have a crayfish boil, and guys like me who just want fresh fish. You have to flag down an employee and tell them what you want. They will drop your stuff into a numbered bin, where you pay for it up front. The line to the cashier takes a couple minutes so be prepared to wait, but it is definitely worth it. Also, things can be sped up if you speak mandarin chinese, as the owners and some employees speak mandarin. Another thing that is kind of annoying about Rose's though, is the parking. These guys are so popular that the parking lot is almost always full, and it may be hard to navigate large trucks around, but some people still manage to do so. Luckily there are always people going in and out, so you don't have to wait a long time if there are no vacancies. If you are looking for fish and live around the Seabrook, Clear Lake, League City area then I would recommend you to at least visit Rose's if you love seafood. Its so much better than getting seafood at your local grocery store and definitely worth the 15min drive for myself to get down there. Where else can I find a big 3-pound slab of salmon? read more

I found Rose's seafood through a group of friends 3 years ago. We rented a beach house and needed some seafood for the house party so we got ~20 lbs of colossal shrimp from Rose's. This is my go-to place for colossal shrimp if I am craving shrimps. They have other seafood as well but I can't comment on those because I have only bought shrimps at this place. Their shrimp is really sweet and big. It would be great if they also include whether a product is farmed or wild caught and which states/ocean the product is from. Half the time I like farmed product and half the time I like wild caught product. Different texture and different taste. Aside from that, everything else is great. read more

This was our first time to visit Rose's Seafood. Their location has several other seafood shops in the vicinity. We decided to buy from Rose's based on a neighbor's experience. You have to walk upstairs to get into the market, but they do have an elevator. As with all seafood markets, when you walk in you smell fish. Duh! How is a seafood market suppose to smell? It didn't smell bad to us. They have different levels of fresh shrimp to buy. There's lots of different fish as well. Here's a note for you people with the "I don't want to touch the nasty fish." To check out any fish before you buy it you have to look at it. Look at its eyes, look inside the gutted fish, and squeeze the flesh for firmness. Pick it up and smell it. They have a sink where you can wash your hands. i was amazed how many people bought fish and never even looked it over. They just pointed to it. I did see a couple of species of fish that didn't look too good. They were on sale. LOL Anyway, we picked out some whole snapper and trout which were fresh. They also have some frozen filets, but we wanted fresh. The workers were always asking us if we needed help, so as newcomers we weren't ignored. We went ahead and had our fish filet out and they did a good job of it. We also order some reasonably priced jumbo shrimp. When we got home, I examined all the seafood again. All was very fresh smelling. The only complaint I have is the crab meat we bought. It was a good price and tasted good. After we got home, I looked at the label and discovered it was from Venezuela. I had the thought it might be local. Oh well. Either way, it was a good price. Overall, we liked Rose's. I can't comment on their prices compared to their nearby competitors because we didn't go into any other market. However, the place was clean and the prices blew away our local HEB prices. We went to Kemah today to check out the seafood markets, and after hitting up a few nearby contenders, found ourselves at Roses. The price point and quality were both just right -- *really* reasonable prices for very high quality seafood. crab legs at less than $5.00 a pound Gulf croaker at $2.69/lb large (21-25) gulf shrimp at $2.79/lb (6lbs or more) squid at $1.99/lb pompano at $3.25/lb. About 41¢ per oyster (by the dozen) We hit the road with the above purchases in tow. Ahi tuna, fresh Scottish salmon, and a few other fish were labeled as "sashimi graded" -- but of course, I don't know who's doing the grading ;) The red snapper was also exceptionally beautiful. read more
