What's better then hiking?…read more Beautiful, well kept trails. Not too crowded but enough people on them you never feel isolated or completely alone. A lot of bikers! So please be mindful when you're walking, especially with your dog. We saw a few close calls that could have been avoiding by being aware. During summer there are a bunch of snakes so keep an eye out for that. The trails range from easier to hard, so you have plenty of options. Haven't been there since the fires but the hills still look beautiful from home.

Not too crowded and also have great company of others who frequent the area. It's also safe and near nicely manicured lawns from newer homes, quiet neighborhoods and folks who always say hello and a smile as you cross paths on this trail. So, when you need a place to walk around, drop by this trail and enjoy a little of peace, quiet and serenity in the Simi Valley area.

Hills are covered with greenery & lots of yellow & purple wild flowers can be seen blooming. We can hear birds chirping & can see colorful butterflies all along the trail. The recent rains have transformed the charred rolling hillsides into a vibrant green color which shows us that, with time, the trees and vegetation will eventually rebound. Sadly, the historic Morison Ranch House, once occupied by Jim Morrison and his family in 1904, is gone forever and can never be replaced. What is left is a hole in the ground, an old rusted bathtub, and scraps of metal and nails. Fortunately, a number of other ranch artifacts, such as cisterns and corrals, still remain. They are a reminders of the past where, for 150 years, this land was used by ranchers for cattle grazing. There is a large network of over 20 different, well-maintained, trails that traverse the entire open space area. Some of the trails have quirky names like Suicide Trail and Dead Cow Trail. The trailheads are hidden throughout residential neighborhoods. This is one of those sites that require multiple visits, from different locations, in order to see it all. It was interesting to learn that this open space area also serves as a wildlife corridor connecting the Santa Susana Mountains with the Santa Monica Mountain ranges. This might explain the abundance of wildlife that I witnessed when I visited. I saw a number of deer, squirrels and beautifully colored birds everywhere. There are also interesting natural landmarks. The Baleen Wall is a geologic formation located along a cliff that resembles a Baleen Whale. You can view, and smell, the pools of Sulpher Springs. The terrain is versatile to suit your needs. If you are interested in cardio then you can climb to Simi Peak. If you are looking for a causal reflective walk, then you can stroll along the canyon floor that follows the creek and just appreciate the natural surroundings. It's a complete package and definitely worth a revisit.

Parking was easy and from the…read moreparking lot and back it was an easy 2mi hike, mostly flat and straight with signages along the way, the last .4mi was steep though but still very manageable. Best to come in for the sunset (but people do start coming in at around 530pm-sh so can get crowded during this time). Zero shade along the way so be prepared with sunscreen and water! The trail is a little bit unkept probably due to covid (heard they closed down for a bit). But as of 07/27 all trails and parking lot are all open (even Paradise Falls).

The path to Lizard Rock from Overloop is pretty technical on the way down and some tight turns on the incline toward Lizard Rock. Lizard rock itself was fine with but with some tight switch backs. There is a huge spot on left where they are perhaps building a large home. The path continues upward..not too tough. Then evens out. Great views of Westlake Lake on the right. Soon you'll see Las Virgenes Reservoir on your left.Such great views! Walk to the end when you see the back yards....then turn right and go up the hill .When you walk the loop back toward the left you'll see Eleanor Lake. The wild flowers are just beginning now...more to come.Super quiet, peaceful hike. Didn't see a soul! The hike took an hour. This is a kid friendly hike. Easy enough.. Best little hike in the area.

Then, when I found it, it was quite small, and narrow, and not of interest in the searing heat, especially with rattlesnakes right now. I would not have been able to see what was on either side of my feet with tall grass or brush. On the plus side (or negative side depending on how you feel about wildlife), several deer bolted out of the brush when I was walking around trying to locate this trail. Overall, I wasted a couple of hours trying to find this place and what I found (after searching around), was not worth it. Maybe that is the idea, so it stays wild. I should add that the pic with the wide looking road is where they are doing construction, not the trail.

There were so many native plants even though most things were dead this time of year. I got to see…read morewhite sage, purple sage, deerweed, black walnut, coastal live oak, buffalo gourd and a few other plants. Sadly there was some nonnative and a ton of invasive weeds such as the caster plant that castor oil is made from. Apparently the fruits of that plant are VERY toxic and can kill a human so I wish those plants were removed. Parking is very ample and it appears to be a hidden gem in some ways. I went on a recent Sunday morning and really enjoyed it.

We have two toddlers and we didn't finish, but had a wonderful time exploring. We even saw a few poppies! Nestled in the beautiful rolling hills in Moorpark, the views on the trail are breathtaking. A good fall, winter and spring hike. Not the most challenging, but great for a quick walk. We saw a few people on horseback, and only passed a handful of other hikers. I love an uncrowded trail Free parking and easy to get to. Not challenging or long but great views and fun. Looking forward to bringing the pup and kids again!

The turn off point is not marked so best to go with a knowledge person. Your reward on this hike is to see the remains of machinery from when this area was mined. Plus you'll see really cool fossils of shells. Who would know that you would see this in Simi Valley. Lastly there is amazing views from this trail. In a clear day you might be able to see the ocean. This hike is totally worth the climb!

The 'mine' is NOT what you have pictured in your head; It's an old Limestone strip mine (1929-35), so there's no mine to spelunk, there is a cool backhoe that makes a great subject to capture with the stunning views. The trailhead starts off simply in a fire road, stay left or right, because trucks, towing horse trailers, and a lot of bikes come by. Well this part of the trail is also very nice, it's not until you get on the actual trail that you start gaining good elevation and her horizon from every angle is spectacular. Now, don't miss the turn for the trail; if you hit the 2 mile marker on the fire road, then you will have to turn around and go back, keep all trails open to make sure you had the right way. Extremely maintained trail, easy parking and an excellent trail that you can take other trailsfor as long as your legs will last.
