Decent place to eat from, nothing super special here. Price aren't bad, they have a big menu of items they offer. A lot of the items here are a little on the blander side though and they have made some small mistakes when ordering and delivering my orders before. But you know what you are getting into every time you eat from here it's consistent. Also, like a reviewer mentioned they have grits which I'm excited about. You have no idea how hard it is to find a diner / restaurant that serves grits in the area. They also have turkey sausages another had to find diner item in the area. Delivery review: I've never been the the Bedford Street Diner but i have ordered delivery from them twice. My fiancé is absolutely obsessed with their Red, White, and Blue Waffles. When I found out that they served grits, I was excited! Their eggs benedict selection is great and their Omelettes are delicious. We've never had any issues with delivery or food. It's definitely our go-to for breakfast food. If the owners read this, can I make a request to add hashbrowns to the menu?? That would definitely earn five stars! I am a women of color and I was seen by the only waitress while waiting to place my order. Instead, she walked over to the table directly next to mine and took the order of two gentlemen who were void of color and they received their food and were eating while I sat and still waited. A solid perfectly acceptable diner. Came in for breakfast on a weekday. Pretty quiet. Found a waitress who, occasionally, when she felt like it would come to take our order. Strangely was never offered any coffee refills. What kind of diner is this?! BUT but but, my omelette was delish. A good amount of ingredients. I've tried, because I like the guy who owns it -- but the food really isn't very good and the prices can get high for certain things. Look -- this is a perfectly acceptable diner. You're not going to get sick and the people are pleasant. I've ordered basic breakfasts and lunch sandwiches and everything is fine -- but nothing is really good. Buttermilk pancakes were barely warm after a 1-minute drive home and yes - I ordered when I arrived at this establishment. And, my well done home fries were a touch warmer than the pancakes. The Diner scene in Stamford can have its peaks and valleys, but for consistency I've yet to find a joint that beats Bedford Street. I've been eating Banana Pancakes, Donuts, and BEC Croissants here for years now and they never disappoint. It starts with the staff. Always welcoming and always smiling... The moment I walk in I'm immediately tended to; the staff even knowing my preferred seating preference and opening course (usually the yogurt parfait with honey). My cup is never low on coffee and they are very accommodating with requests. The food itself has never let me down either. Admittedly, I've almost exclusively gone here for breakfast/brunch but I've tried dishes from each major category and have always had a great meal (Napa Eggs Benedict!). With that said, I can't speak much for the lunch or dinner meals unfortunately. The seating is the only knock for me where I wish they had more booths and space. I understand the limitations and they make the best of it. They have barstool seating at the main counter to help add more capacity, but if you come with a group of two or more, the booths become a precious commodity and getting seated in the center of the floor can get cramped and puts you in the path of servers going back and forth. At the end of the day, for a diner, Bedford Street does it right and hits on food and service. Coming here when it's not crowded is optimal, but it doesn't take away from the service or quality either. Even when the place is slammed, I've never experienced service degradation or poorly prepared food... They maintain that consistency and for me that's huge in a Diner. read more

Great first experience! The food is delicious with good sized portions. The restaurant is a bit crowded but standard for a diner. The menu is very wide with breakfast, lunch and dinner so there's something for everyone. A little pricey with $10-12 omelettes and $12-15 sandwiches, but pretty comparable with other diners. I ordered food to go the other day. Their online menu was last updated 2013. Come to find out, one of the items listed, The Balboa, was no longer offered. I was told "We don't do roast beef any more". I tried the Chris Cavaliere and what read as chili tasted more like refried beans...and yet smelled like Alpo. I'm not sure if they changed the listed ingredients or not, but it was awful. They also neglected to include the sour cream and salsa. The Collins was decent, but nothing special. Prices are hard to find online & differ from the current ones. They should take better care of updating their website menu. read more

Bedford St. Special - perfect balance of eggs, meat and sweet! While its always possible to screw up eggs - my over easy were perfectly cooked, the sausage was crispy & tasty and the pancake was delicious!! Overall I found all the prices to be a little steep, especially compared to other diners in the Stamford area. But hey they are really close to the police station and court house so they are going to get business. I grabbed a Collins sandwich. I've been here before and had good food and good experience with the staff but when I went on a Friday in July I had one of the worst experiences I've had in a long time. And it could have been easily corrected. But unfortunately the staff and owner weren't interested. I'm lactose intolerant and a vegetarian. So I ordered a veggie omelette and asked them NOT to cook it with any butter. I inquired about home fries and the waitress said they have butter in them. Which was nice, she was listening (thank you). So I ordered some tatter tots instead. The meal didn't take long time to cook and I was looking forward to a filling and healthy breakfast. My first bite was the tatter tots. It tasted Like FISH So I put some ketchup on it. It still tasted fishy. So I tried the omelette. It tasted great!! Cooked perfectly. So I thought.....The tatter tots still tasted fishy but I put some more ketchup on them an kept eating. (I'm not the sorta person that likes to complain) So I finished my meal paid the bill and I was on my way to work. About 20 minutes after arriving to work I started to get a stomach ache. And a few minutes later I was in the bathroom. I was in and out of the bathroom for a few hours. My stomach was in knots. This happens to me for only one reason, there was dairy in my food. -Even though I specifically requested NO BUTTER. My stomach hurt and I remembered the fishy tatter tots. I was not happy. (I do not have food allergies, butter just does a number on my stomach) So I decided to call Bedford Diner to complain. They said the manager would be out until Monday. I left my name and number to call me. I was hoping he would call and this would be easily resolved. We all make mistakes, no biggie. It was Monday and the manger/owner never called. So I decided to walk in to the restaurant to speak to someone in charge. And let them know about my experience. I was hoping for an easy solution and compassion. And this is where the staff and owner got it all wrong. I explained that I had a horrible stomach ache and diarrhea after eating the food and that the tatter tots tasted like fish. ----FYI --- ----------------------I've cooked at restaurants before so I understand how to make food for people with allergies. More importantly I know how to win the customer over and make them happy and encourage them to come back again. These guys failed. Instead of apologizing and admitting to making a mistake. And offering ways to fix it in the future and promising me a better meal next time I got a bunch of excuses. Like "we empty the fryalator frequently" FYI------------- they don't clean it, they just empty it. There's a difference! Clearly since I had fishy tasting tatter tots emptying the fryer still leaves fishy residue. Then I mentioned my stomach pain and diarrhea from the omelette. And I heard "there's always some butter on the grill". THEN CLEAN IT OFF!! -OR- get a pan, put my omelette in the pan with olive oil and cook it on a stove or on top of the grill. This is not rocket science. The owner hardly made I contact with me the entire time. I felt as if he didn't even believe me. Like I was screwing him out of $12!? He reluctantly gave me my money back and followed it up with. "He'll be back" and I NEVER got an apology from him. NO SIR, I WILL NEVER BE BACK AND WILL NEVER RECOMMEND YOUE RESTAURANT TO ANYONE.
