It was my pup's first visit to Rosie's Dog Beach, and we all loved it! She was a little intimidated and shy at first, but I'm sure she'll get the hang of it soon. We arrived early on a Sunday, and it definitely got busy by the time we left about an hour later. Be sure to bring umbrella, drinks, snacks, and maybe a picnic blanket, you can easily spend the whole day here with your pup. It's so fun watching all the dogs interact and soak up some sunshine together. The good: Its one of the only beaches in LA county where you can legally have your dog off leash. So thats a plus. They have nice, pet friendly bar/cafe there called Montys. Not so good: -It is a very small area, just a few hundred yards wide. -the beach is very crowded -not sure how often they groom the area, if at all. My fur.baby loved Rosie's Dog Beach, it was difficult getting her to leave when it was time to go home to San Diego. There were SO many kind people (dog owners or beach goers) and fun dogs of all shapes and sizes. Everyone was friendly and respectful. Many loved my dog and took pictures of her and her shark fin. She was so popular, I think that's why she loved it here. BEACH. Easy access to the parking lot. The sad is white and soft In the area but it's Long Beach so it's a little windier here than many other beaches in SoCal. Very spacious beach for dogs to roam leash free. I did notice there were ALOT of plastics and small fragments of trash that get washed up. So yes, the beach is a dirty when it comes to that aspect. Brought my pup here for the first time! I will say, this beach was okay. Compared to Huntington dog beach, this one felt a lot dirtier. I do think they should add poop bag stations as quite a few people didn't bring bags to clean up after their dogs. And I think they need more trash cans dedicated for dog poop. From where we were, I didn't see any lifeguard on duty. I'm not sure if they were just further down or what, but there wasn't one near where we were. There was like security/life guards driving around in their trucks, but not like a lifeguard tower. I would feel more comfortable knowing there's professional lifeguards on standby just incase any incident, whether human or dog, may occur. Aside from that, it was super cute to see all the dogs frolicking in the sand & water! Tbh I don't think we would come back here, we prefer Huntington dog beach. read more

I went with my friend and her dog, and it was really interesting and fun to see all of the dogs play with each other. This beach had a mix of big and small dogs, ranging from some being on/off leash. A majority of the owners kept a really close eye on their dogs and picking up after their dogs. Rosie's essentially a section off area of the main beach, with clear signs to indicate where it starts and end. Parking here is paid, but on Sundays it looks like it's free. Part of Granada Beach in Long Beach, Rosie's Dog Beach is an off-leash dog zone, allowing dog owners and their furry companions to enjoy the California sunshine and surf with others of their ilk. My daughter and son-in-law brought down their mini dachshund with them for the holidays, and we had a chance to bring her to the beach on Christmas Day, in between rain storms that we received on the surrounding days. There were quite a few dogs there, all enjoying the sunshine. It's a relatively flat beach with decent sand and not too much debris this day. We stayed for a bit and saw many owners/dogs drop by to play, most for a short stay, making the trip an enjoyable part of their day. I love bringing my dog to Rosie's Dog Beach! I always go early in the morning before the beach gets crowded. It's a very decent sized stretch for dogs to run around. My dog doesn't like other dogs, and since we go early it's not an issue to maintain distance from others. People seem pretty respectful of the space and they pick up after their dogs. There's a big metered parking lot right next to the dog beach area, and there are a lot of trash cans. read more

It's always a must whenever we're down in Long Beach. Have to take the fur baby to tire him out. In his case, he likes to just lay and lounge. It's alway quite pretty busy each time we've been. It's a decent stretch of beach so there's plenty of room for all the dogs to run around. This visit, the lifeguard went around to everyone asking if they were going in the water. And to be careful with stingrays as they're out. Basically to make sure we do the stingray shuffle before walking in. Smart. This beach is always pretty fun with people and dogs of all sort. Little one, big one, both off lease and on lease. Majority of dogs are okay with each other but you always have to be cautious as you never know how other dogs will react. And of course, clean up after them. There's loads of trash bin along the sand. It's a good beach as it's pretty wide and great for the dogs to run around. Parking in the lot or street parking. Even without a dog, this beach is a pleasure. It is a flat sand beach with open water access. There is a bike path and small beach bungalows looking over the ocean front. - There are palm trees, lifeguard stations and a view of Rainbow Harbor. I personally did not care for the harbor view but appreciate that the city attempted to disguise the mechanical island as something somewhat appealing. - You are a few blocks away from 2nd Street where there are great spots for ice cream, food, beach wear and beach toys. The downside is there is very little shade and parking is very difficult. read more

Love love love love love love love. The actual distance between the two signs that mark the end of Rosie's dog beach is fairly small, but when the beach is crowded w pups, the distance feels a lot longer due to your dog socializing so much. I come here w my Belgian malinois-pit bull mix who is highly energetic; she was hesitant w the water at first but now she LOVES it. We aren't at the swimming stage yet; I literally pretended to drown so she could come swim to me, but she just stared blankly at me. Swimming is so good for the muscles and joints of a dog though, especially larger dogs prone to issues in this area! The beach is very well kept, & fairly clean. We don't see much trash at all. There's parking that you pay for using your spot number. I've never had an issue with parking, even on holidays. So grateful to have a dog beach so close to me. Gemma has the most amazing time here & you can tell she loves the experience because when we get home, she walks straight to the shower without snarling at me. Our European Boxer and English Bulldog love going to Rosie's dog beach. It's a bit of a drive for us from Santa Clarita, but it's well worth it. At Rosie's dog beach you can take your dog of the leash and let them run around and play with other dogs. I don't know what it is, but when we are out for a walk and my dog see's another dog he wants to chase after them to play.... but at Rosie's dog beach there's so many dogs running around that makes your pup relax and have a good time. For the parents and kids, the beach has restaurants near by, beach volleyball, and any other activity you want to get into. Parking is also really affordable. This was my first experience at a dog beach and the atmosphere was so nice. It was very clean and very large. All of the dogs were very friendly. My dog was a bit afraid to go near water and was confused by the sand. Unfortunately when we went the weather was in the verge of rain so it was quite cold, but it definitely was a worthwhile visit. I've been coming to this beach for years even before it was a dog beach and I have to say that since it's become a dog beach, it feels so much dirtier. I have two fur babies that I like to bring here but often times find poop in the sand as owners aren't cleaning up after their pets. additionally my 65 pound senior pittie mix was attacked by a Doberman with a muzzle on and the lady laughed it off by saying "I guess my dog doesn't like yours ". While I realize this is an isolated incident I just wanted to share that some owners aren't accountable for their pets here (or elsewhere for that matter). This hasn't deterred me from bringing my dogs because they love the absolute freedom of running around. Overall, a great place to bring your dog, but please keep an eye on them. read more

I had never been to Rosie's before and it is a slightly bit less of a drive than Huntington Dog Beach so I decided to try it out. My lab is 13.5 years old and when she was younger she loved the beach, she almost passed away a few months ago and now she bounced back, but the one thing I had regretted when that was happening was not being able to take her one last time to the beach. So on 12/27 I spontaneously threw her in the car and we made the trek to Rosie's to fulfill getting to see her see the beach again in her older age! There is plentiful parking. There were so many spots open that day, I don't know if it's only because it was the holiday or if it's always so empty there. I liked that it's a nice large stretch of beach. There are bathrooms, there are dog waste bags and trash cans, there are volley ball courts, and there are many people enjoying the time with their dogs. My dislikes were that I did see dog waste on the beach people hadn't picked up after themselves. I also saw so many people standing around watching the beach wearing reflective vests, so I couldn't tell if they were just watching the beach to assure people follow the rules or if they were workers there to work on something? But if it's people watching the beach I wish they could catch the people who don't pick up after their dogs. Also, I tried to choose a spot that had zero people nearby to give my lab some space. In her old age she's more grumpy than she used to be and I chose the spot purposefully. I also keep sweaters on her because she has lost allot of weight and she shivers easily, and unfortunately this did bring more attention to her. Somehow a bunch of people all descended at the same time and Elaine did get a bit grumpy and the way one of the people reacted made me wonder if there are allot of negative occurrences at this dog park. Other than this one person's reaction, and one other person who had an uncontrollable large puppy (maybe a dane?), it was an overall pleasant trip. I would probably come here again with one of my other younger dogs in the future. read more

Took my chocolate Lab, Prince, to Rosie's Dog Beach and it was hands-down one of the best days ever--for both of us! As soon as his paws hit the sand, he was in full zoomie mode, tail wagging like crazy. The beach is spacious, clean, and full of friendly pups and even friendlier owners. It's the perfect place to let dogs run free, splash in the waves, and just be dogs. Prince couldn't get enough of the water--he chased tennis balls like it was his job and made a few new furry friends along the way. There are rinse-off stations (thankfully!) and plenty of space to set up a towel and chill while your pup plays. It's such a joy watching your dog have that much fun in such a safe, open environment. But there are also far too many irresponsible owners who are inattentive, defensive, or in denial about their dogs' aggressive behavior. It blows my mind how many people ignore obvious signs of prey drive - stiff posture, stalking, fixation, pinning -- all signals that a dog is not just "playing." Recently, my dog was pinned under water and nearly bitten on her throat by an aggressive dog, followed immediately by another. The owners were 40-50 feet away, not paying attention, glued to their phones. When we stepped in to protect our dog, they got mad at us and said, "They're just playing." Seriously, dog owners have to be realistic about our dogs and the potential behaviors that can seriously injure other dogs. Paying attention, stepping in early, and being honest about your dog's temperament isn't judgment - it's just good dog ownership. read more

There was lots of parking, and the beach itself was nice. She loved swimming in the water! Unfortunately, my dog ended up drinking too much ocean water which resulting in diarrhea and vomiting.
