Rosie's Tampiquena

Great food, fantastic ambience. Home cooked. Family friendly service. Authentic. Like going to your favorite latina's place for dinner and socializing. Rosie is the most gracious host you could ever hope for!

Strawberry margarita, it was so good!

This is a long overdue review on the drinks and hospitality. We were on a long drive heading to Gardnerville when the fuel pump went out on our SUV. We got stranded on the road right across from Rosie's. After waiting for over an hour for a tow truck I had to use the bathroom so we went over to Rosie's. The open sign was no longer on but there were lots of people inside. I knocked on the door and a gentleman let me in. I told him what was going on and asked if I could use the restroom. That's when Rosie herself came over and I gave her my story. She was so kind and welcomed my boyfriend and I in. I used the restroom and got a call from the towing company that it would be another hour until they arrived. Not only did Rosie insist that we wait inside she made me a delicious strawberry margarita on the house. While waiting there we met Rosie's brother in law and learned the love story of how Rosie and her husband met. Everyone inside was so nice and it reminded me that there are still good people in the world. Next time were passing through we are definitely going to stop and eat. I will do an updated review then.

What a find! We Yelped this place on a drive from Mammoth to Lake Tahoe and thought it looked very authentic, so worth the slightly longer drive. It was even more authentic than we could have imagined! The servers speak Spanish (I tried hard to play along, based on my high-school level fluency) and the plates are gigantic and delicious. My wife and I each ordered a plate (she got the enchilada/tostada combo and I got a burrito). To be honest, we could have split one plate and been full. They were so huge, but also really hit the spot during a week of hiking, altitude, and generally burning lots of calories. Chips and salsa were complimentary. The place is also full of charm. It doesn't look like much on the side of a highway in a desert. But the inside is colorful and decorative and they have a really nice outdoor patio area. They also take credit/debit cards.

Fantastic little restaurant in an area without many choices. I had an enchilada and tostada plate and it was big enough for two people. Good service, the owner came up and said hi. The prices were fair.

Combo "0". Not on menu!

We decided to "take a ride" from Bridgeport Reservoir on the back road to find "Rosies". The drive itself was worth it! When we got to "Rosies" we were greeted by a really sweet young lady who took care of us for our dinner. Chips and salsa were very good. Margaritas also tasty (blended) and refreshing. Food came out quickly and well seasoned with nice presentation. Very good authentic flavor. For an out of the place - off the beaten path venue, I recommend this place.

On a road trip from Las Vegas to Reno, this location on the northern outskirts of Hawthorne,…read moreNevada, is roughly 5-5.5 hours into the drive. With ample parking in a compacted gravel lot, it's located off the south bound side of Hwy 95. The sign at the roadside says "4.9 Star Restaurant" then "Bighorn Crossing" on the next line. The building is clearly marked, and the speed limit on this stretch is 35mph, so it's easily located. The entire place is clean, tidy, and exactly what you want for a food stop in a "frontier" county (ask Tony). "Yelpers" have never steered me wrong, and this gem overlooking the Walker Lake lives up to the hype! The food is top notch - fresh, flavorful and better than anything else offered between Reno and Vegas. Seriously. Korean style bowls and American burgers fill the menu, with some excellent beverage options, and optional "spiking," for those not driving. Bonus is the conversation with Tony: owner, professional chef, county commissioner and conservationist. He's happy to explain the challenges facing the area, especially pertaining to abused water supply from the corporate farms upriver, if you ask. Please inquire! Thanks Tony and Matthew, for an amazing meal, comfortable atmosphere and stimulating conversation. See you on the next trip!

There's easy parking out front, both indoor and outdoor seating, and a modern, clean interior with a great EDM soundtrack playing in the background. The service was very attentive. I tried the Korean BBQ tacos, which were flavorful and satisfying. My only criticism is that I would have preferred to be served on an actual plate rather than in a to-go box while dining in. If you're passing through the area, this place is worth seeking out for a good meal.

And we brought some Bay Area friends with us. We also came in mid-week to avoid any crowd potential. Our evening began at the bar with a round of Picon Punch, the official drink of the State of Nevada. I first thought that this was a drink that you only ordered once, but this small glass of goodness actually grew on us. After closing the bar bill and looking at all the branded merchandise, it was off to the main dining room. We chose the Basque Family Style side of the menu, which at the end of the evening resulted in number of take home containers. Our 4 choices were Basque Chicken, Fish, Lamb Shoulder, and Lamb Chops. Those came with Vegetable Soup, Salad, Beef Stew, Beans, French Fries, Bottle of Red Wine, Coffee, and Ice Cream. for the Table. These inclusive choices were priced just south of $40 and that's what the bill was at the end of the evening, as there were no extras needed. OK, the included wine was a little on the sweet side, but we didn't see the need to "upgrade" as we were too busy concentrating on the food. It was all good, especially the Soup and the French Fries. The only regret was not being here on the night they served Huckleberry Ice Cream, but our Vanilla or Pistachio Almond was good enough. JT Basque is family generation owned, and we certainly felt welcome and well taken care of. The rustic decor was also cool, as was the happy energy in the dining room. We promise to come back and not be strangers.

Unfortunately these culinary options aren't really at the top of my list. I stopped here for Lunch a few days ago and ended up with a burger, fries, and lemonade. That combo was pretty good, especially the burger and less so the fries. The window service was friendly and prompt. This space used to be a Sonic, which explains the generous drive-in parking spots. The only seating option is the 3 picnic tables in front of the order and pick up windows. So if you want to sit down and relax with your meal choices, the best option is your car as the limited table space is at a premium.

They had to move a franchise to Minden and occupied a former burger place or I wouldn't have done it then. I was there at lunchtime. Well, I was at a nearby business and I was without my wife. We had discussed Wienerschnitzel and she had concluded that she was never ever gonna go there no matter what. To her there's something about hot dogs not being healthy they keeps her away. We don't even eat the Costco hotdog, except maybe once every five years. So, if memory serves, back when I was in college and hungry, I was eating these mustard dogs for $.29 each. They were simple; bun, mustard, and hotdog. For two dollars you were full. That is definitely not the case here. I got the Chicago dog and it came with mustard, hotdog, peppers, relish and a need for a napkin. This hotdog alone was nearly 5 dollars, but I thought it tasted really good. They had some value meals which I wasn't interested in, and a little bit of a lunch crowd. It was a nice day and so I took advantage of their outside seating and watched the world go by on Highway 395 for about five minutes. Will it be 40 years before I return? I doubt it, but it's unlikely that I'll be a regular. It is what it is and it's tasty but forbidden, at least at my house.
