I'm really confused about people saying this is the best Mexican restaurant they've ever eaten at. The food is good, but overly processed, and definitely not the best in the area. I live in Carson City, and when my husband and I found this little spot I was happy because they serve breakfast. A lot of Mexican places around here do not. They also have a variety of dishes that have potato and egg in them, and my husband and I are vegetarian and vegan respectively. I really was happy that they had some dishes that we could choose from and modify to fit our dietary needs. Last weekend we drove from Carson to have breakfast on Saturday. We got there at 10:30. They list themselves as being open at 10am. There was a closed sign in the window. We could smell food cooking, and I could actually see movement through the tinted windows. Confused, we decided to wait thinking that maybe they would open seeing people standing there (in the summer heat mind you). While we were waiting, I noticed one of the waitresses that I've seen before quickly drive up around to the side, get out, and run into a back door. I thought, maybe they're running late. Maybe somebody called in sick and they are shortstaffed. I decided to knock on the door to ask when they were going to open, because we had come all that way to have breakfast with some friends who are also vegetarian. We've been telling them how excited we were to find another option for breakfast. No one would open the door for us. I called as well. No answer. We went next-door to Blind Dog, had a coffee, and waited for a bit. We came out after and they were still closed. At this point we just gave up and drove back to Carson City and had breakfast at Squeeze In. It was a really big disappointment. The food here is all right. I enjoy the potato taquitos. They will modify their dishes without dairy to make it vegan friendly. Picture of a couple weeks before when I brought a friend here for lunch and the margaritas we had. Drinks are a bit overpriced but taste good. The ambiance is upbeat. When they are open, the service is friendly and swift. read more

We love Fuentes. We come here nearly every taco Tuesday. The birria quesadilla is delish and their margs are always top notch.

Wow we were expecting a really good dinner. Friends recommended this restaurant. First off chips and whatever with salsa. Chips not great and salsa no spice whatsoever. Ordered the steak fajitas on a so so sizzling platter. Had very little flavor and just two flour tortillas where most places have at least three to four. Side plate with runny yuck beans and so so rice a little guacamole and sour cream. Split a grande not so big margarita which was the highlight of the meal. With two other outstanding Mexican restaurants nearby we will never return. Disappointing . Also server said we had to order extra setting for $8 plus to share next time. Stumbled upon this place as it was close to our hotel. Not only did we come here one time but TWO times before we had to fly back home. We first came here Saturday morning, right before they opened and the owner treated us very well and everything tasted so good and authentic!! The 2nd time we came here was on Sunday morning while we were watching football and they treated us so good again!! This place does not disappoint and the food is even better!! You definitely have to try this place if you're in the area and it's good to go in the morning as the afternoon does get packed. The drinks will have you wanting more as well! Walking in the restaurant is very clean and nice, we were sat in a nice booth and brought really good chips and salsa and those chips that look like wheels, ordered the birria taco plate and a smash burger, birria was great, burger was ok, it's not a smash burger by any means, the meat and bun were delicious but I expected a smash burger. read more

First I must say this place is very, very good for authentic Mexican food. My friend took me here and there was a total of four of us. As we sat down, we were greeted immediately and had chips and salsa brought. While we looked at the menu, we were asked about our drink choices. Clearly 3 of us ordered adult beverages. Two of us ordered the margaritas and they are huge and yummy! I ordered chicken mole, two people ordered the birria tacos and one orders the protein molcajete. When the food came out, I was surprised at the amount of food in the molcajete! It's huuuuge! So be forewarned, if you order this, you'll either take plenty home or don't eat all day before coming in to finish it! My chicken mole was delicious! The spices were very perfect and the lens to heat ratio was perfect! My friends stayed their birria tacos were amazing too! Full of flavours and everyone was happy with the amount of food! The ambiance was fun, and service was impeccable. They make you feel very welcomed and very family friendly, fun place to be. We have been to Fuentes a number of times and have always enjoyed the food and the staff were great. This time however it was different. The fajitas were really good for our first time trying them here. But we ordered chili con queso for the first time also. Won't do that again. We were so disappointed because it was directly from a can to the microwave to the table. Food was very good. Portions were large. I had the ceviche and three Street tacos. The street tacos we're fantastic. Steak with seasoned and cooked to perfection. The ceviche wasn't my favorite. The portion size was enormous, but one of the three ceviches were artificial crab. Service was very friendly but food was slow to come out. Server kept my drink glass and my chips and salsa full. Just staying the night here in Minden, and man, am I ever glad I decided to grab dinner here! Totally delicious. The red sauce they put on my enchilada was so good it made me want to be a better person. I have no idea how their Verde sauce is, but if it's half as good it's still probably worth one of your kidneys. Chile relleno, rice and beans, side salsas: all of it was great! Big flavors here. My husband got the Mole Burrito. It was HUMUNGOUS and DELICOUS! He also got a tamale and it was delicious and bigger than most tamales. I got the steak fajitas. They were excellent. I thought I would give it a try, not happy that I did. I will continue to go a few blocks further and get street tacos from JJ's. In short, add this to the list of places that you need to consider when you're going out to eat in the Carson Valley. I've now been twice in the span of three days. Here's the fist tip I would share with you: Do not, I repeat, do not miss Taco Tuesday. The Taco Tuesday tacos are 'street tacos' and they are currently priced at $1 each..... simply delicious. My wife reports that the margarita she had was made from scratch, sweet and tasty. What's great about this place is that it is fully up and running and I only heard about it two weeks ago. I usually think new places need a break in period so that they can work the kinks out. Not this place, it's fully up and running on all cylinders. We will be back. read more
