I couldn't say the same for their parking lot though, it's not very big. They buy and sell used books and this place has A LOT: books (they also have rare/signed books on the floor and behind the regster), vinyls, and pictures. The front of the store has a more organized setup that label the shelves of what genre and the back of the store is where they keep their clearance items. I liked that they have staff picks descriptions or personal takeaways written on small note cards on the shelves and lots of places to sit around the store, especially in the back. I also noticed a sign on the wall saying you can rent out the clearance room in the back for events which is neat.

Island Thrift Store

I just read a lot of the negative reviews here. I think…read morepeople are forgetting that this is a THRIFT STORE. ISLAND THRIFT IS A GREAT THRIFT STORE! They have amazing sales. You have to know their sales schedule and policies. They give seniors discount Monday through Wednesday or Thursday . You just have to ask. On Wednesdays nearly the whole store is half price--Sundays also. They have sale days on clothing where all clothing is half off, it might be even be 75% off. Again find out their sales policies. They also have fitting rooms--nice sized ,not fancy. You don't want to go barefoot in them, but they have them. I've been in thrift stores with no fitting rooms and you just have to hope the clothing you buy would fit. At Northern thrift you can try on clothes and they have MIRRORS -- again nothing fancy or elegant but it's functional. I have found amazing things here. Yes some things are overpriced. Somethings are ridiculously UNDERPRICED . If you're a Thrifter, you know the value of this place. I once found a John Hardy Sterling Silver picture frame. I paid $1.50 for it. It originally sold for $600. It resales online for $300. It was heavily tarnished and just needed to be polished. This is the kind of place you can find treasures if you know what you're looking for. Another time I saw an unusual vase. while I was there, I researched it and found the vase online on eBay. It sells on eBay for $1000. I paid 20 for it. Then I found other pieces that matched this amazing ceramic vase. It must have been bought as a collection. Originally made in Paris in the 1920s. I have it packed away right now. I haven't decided what to do with it. But what I bought was worth a couple thousand dollars. And I paid $100 for all the pieces. I like to imagine it was something somebody collected on their honeymoon. The grandchildren didn't recognize the value of it and just brought it all to the thrift store. Again, you have to have an eye for what's valuable. If you do, you can find amazing things. But if you're lazy and just want come in and see that everything is low, low priced --you might be disappointed. You have to look, you have to search, but you can find truly amazing and valuable items-- including in the clothing section. They have plenty of cashiers to accommodate the sometimes long lines on sales days. The bathrooms are kept clean. I go there often and see many of the same people who go there every day looking for finds. I'm not a reseller, but I know these people are and they are there all the time. Obviously, they see the value of this place. Recently, I've needed some pots for a new convection stove top. I got amazing high-quality pots there for five dollars. I've been to several other thrift stores with no luck but at Island Thrift I usually find what I need as well as amazing furniture and decorative pieces. Go, and go often. Something great is waiting there for you!

I've personally witnessed workers being harassed while doing their jobs, and judging by some of the reviews, it seems other people have had similar experiences. If you choose not to believe me, that's completely your choice--I'm simply sharing what I've personally observed. This is just my opinion and my own experience.

I'm familiar with Record Stop, I go to a vinyl night every two weeks with members of a facebook group called 8 o'clock shot and the guy who spins records Tom sort of represents record stop. I had been here once in the summer but didn't really get a chance to properly look around. I love records but I only have one. I'm trying my hardest to not collect much because currently I live in a small space and when my son and I can move out of my father's house we'll still be living in a small space. It was still nice to browse the records for sale. They also have other music related merchandise besides records. Tons of musical action figures, a small selection of books, T-shirts, patches. I bought my boyfriend a Kiss Flask for his birthday. His birthday isn't until August but sometimes you see something early and you just need to grab it. I'll also be buying him more than just a flask but for now it's a good start on a birthday that's still a few months away. And I was happy to purchase something to give record stop some business. The flask was also a pretty decent price giving me more budget room to buy other things. If you're around Patchogue and you're a music lover or a vinyl lover record stop is the place to go!

When I went to return it I used $60 for records and the rest was to be paid out in cash yet I didn't receive back the tax I paid in my refund so they profited $8 and change off me. Really not happy I had to drive an hour 3 separate times to return a tape deck twice that didn't work when everything is guaranteed to work and I didn't even get back the full amount I paid. This place is the bees knees! I took my mother here and she kept saying how she felt like she was in a time capsule from her childhood! The displays were awesome, great selection. They even have vintage clothes, The staff working was extremely helpful and informative. The owner, Thea, was such a great "hostess"! She was very inviting and gave us a tour around the place, patiently answering any of our questions. We had brought my rambunctious 2 year old that day, and she was very helpful keeping him distracted so we could look around more. I had casually mentioned something I was interested in that she didn't have, but she said she'd keep an eye out so I gave her my contact info. Low and behold, a week or so later she contacted me to tell me she found what i was looking for, and at a great price. I would recommend this place to anyone and EVERYONE who has an interest in impeccable customer service, retro and vintage, and local businesses. My only complaint is that it's not closer to my house so I can go all the time. Keep up the good work! read more

Maybe I look shady, but it happens to me every time I go there. Also, the prices are all retail so you're not gonna get any bargains, but you will be able to get niche items that you don't really see. So it's like a high-end garage sale with higher prices and staff who think you might be shoplifting.

I can tell vendors were "pulling out". But things kinda (?) changed here . They now are back to being FULL again however - but all the prices are very high now! The dealers here seem to do what ALL DOPEY ANTIQUE DEALERSHIPS do : They blindly look up prices on ebay or the internet . This is not a good practice because PRICES ARE FLUID on collectibles and antiques. Always were , always will be. Again, it's all about not caring / not wanting to "move things along" - this is what retired vendors & dealers do. They probably have a pension check coming in and don't REALLY need the extra money. The staff here was less than helpful, less than friendly , less than knowledgeable and now sit "Floyd's Baber Shop" style with a round kitchen table in the middle of the store -- and you can hear all their takes on recent current events and the news . Oh wonderful ! I did buy a few OK / lower priced things here but I hope the dealers involved can get their act together and lower some of the stupid old fashioned prices on junk like Flintstones jelly glasses and old magazines that are collecting dust . (Crazy Prices of note: One average fashion magazine from the 1960s -- it was Vogue or something- was marked $75.00 . So it clearly was somebody looking up internet prices - saw one rare issue of Italian Vogue - either sold or was merely asking for $75.00 - and bingo : he thinks his is ALSO worth $75.00 ). Stupid.

However, I went in the other day and found a lampshade on a shelf that I liked that happened to not be priced. As a person that regularly frequents thrift and antique stores, I understand that if it's not priced then it's either not for sale or someone ripped the price tag off and thus, it's not for sale at this time. I went up to the counter where THE OWNER was sitting and I basically said "I understand if you can't sell this to me since it's not priced but I am interested!" The owner responded rudely and said that the reason it's not priced is because I took it off the base of the lamp where the price is. I said "Oh, I didn't take it off the lamp, it was by itself on the shelf." She huffed and rudely said, "Yes you did... I should know, it's my store!!!!" At that point, it wasn't worth fighting for so I turned around and put it back where I found it (on a shelf with 5+ other solo lampshades). On my way out, she tried to THEN haggle me and offered me $10 for the lampshade and then offered unsolicited advice that I should really bring in the lamp if I'm looking for a lampshade. I said no thank you and left. I don't need to be lectured and accused of something at an antique store filled to the BRIM with items. Antiquing is supposed to be a fun way to find old treasures and functional items for your home.

As is true of most thrift shops, you never know what there is to find. There are large selections of record albums, cds and DVDs. Not sure what kind of market there is for them these day. I took a quick look at the albums. One cover was stuck together and there was the pronounced smell of mildew overall. The back room is full of clothes. And in keeping with name of store, there are odds and ends all over. The owner told me business was good. So apparently there are buyers out there. I might stop back in someday, but this trip didn't really do much for me. I wish the owner the very best of luck.

I usually end up buying gifts, seasonal decorations, or little treats for myself like tea, antique trinkets, and candles. I find it hard to describe how the place is organized, but essentially every little alcove in the store represents a particular local craftsperson or entrepreneur. Some of my favorites include... * "Ma belle maison," which is a collection of interesting, reasonably priced antiques and decorations (some sourced directly from southwest France). I found a really cool antique pen tray and some North American duck stamped cards that I have framed above my desk. * "Backstory home" has the best seasonal candles I've ever found! The pumpkin bread candle actually smells like the real thing, and isn't too sweet or overpowering. I also bought their Taylor swift inspired candles for my cousin and she loved them! * Not sure if it's "Harbor cheese and provisions" or "Tono's Tabletop," but there is a fridge stocked with charcuterie, cheese, and nonalcoholic drinks that I've bought for picnics in springtime! Nest also has craft workshops that you can sign up for, and pop up shops that rotate pretty frequently. The clipper ship tea company is currently there, with a unique selection of loose leaf tea blends to choose from- like pumpkin chai! All in all, I love coming to nest. There is something for everyone!
