This place has not changed since I was a kid. If you want records this is the place to go. Great selection and something for all musical tastes. They also have old school games, DVDS, you name it. Service was polite though we didn't buy anything. Value certainly depends on what you're buying - some items seemed super reasonable while others pretty pricey (ie. I've always prided myself on supporting small businesses but this store was rude and not truthful. My wife called to see if they had an album I was looking for. They said yes so I came down to buy it. When I got there they said they couldn't sell it today because it was a special for "record day". I understand this policy however they failed to mention it when my wife called. I obviously would have waited till tomorrow. The person on the phone was very nice however the older person that wouldn't sell it to me was rude and grouchy. He wasn't even apologetic. There isn't really anything cheap about this store any longer unless you want common 99 cent used DVD's like Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey. I recently got into collecting Vinyl, and many would think that those would be hard to come by, but not here. Mr. Cheapo's has a great selection of vinyls (old and new), CD's. video games, VHS, DVD's and blu-rays. Their employees are very knowledgeable, and even told me a few things I never knew. They have a program where every $20 you spend you get a punch on your punch card. The 10th one you get free $20. I was annoyed when the other Mr. Cheapo's in Mineola wouldn't honor my 10th punch because it had ended, but I called up this location and they told the man to honor it. If a store has a generally continuous 20% off sale it is a direct indication that the normal prices are too high!..... I went to the store during a sale promoted as anything in the store 20% off... I know the used stuff is priced high due to past visits and logging my purchases into Discogs so I went for what I normally buy the new release (mostly unlicensed bootleg stuff you can't get at other respectable stores) while cashing out and purchasing close to 200 dollars worth of stuff the owners son at the counter scoffed at the fact I was buying all new stuff as if I broke the laws..... he in fact pointed me to a smiths record which was an old press that was three times the amount of the reissue I was purchasing.... Since I am a collector I grabbed the record.... But all in all was a very unprofessional and disrespectful way of carrying on business........ go to better stores in the area like record reserve if you wanted to be treated fair and kindly...... read more

Staff was dismissive and annoyed with me wanting to exchange videos and music books for money. It says on their website that they sell videos but they wouldn't buy any, let alone even look at what I had. I showed them a stack of music books to which they said "20 cents", I asked "20 cents total?" and then they said they might not even take them at all. Very noncommittal and cold. Long Island isn't exactly the best place for a good used music store (FYE, Best Buy, etc. are generally all we get). Cheapo's isn't always what its name suggests, but it still doesn't mean you can't find a good deal on some hard-to-find stuff. Deluxe Editions generally run about $20 a pop, whereas used single discs go between $6.99 - $9.99 depending on quality. Crappy CD's cost $2.99 each (or 4 for $10). I don't even go near the new CD section as it's expensive and not particularly up to date. The big draw is that they've got some cool "imports" and bootlegs that are tough to find elsewhere. They also have flats, posters, stickers, shirts and patches for sale. All-in-all, the prices could be better but the selection is diverse enough where I usually find something I want each time I visit. read more

I went in hoping to find a some Black Eyed Peas cd's at a reasonable price. The store is ok sized and is stacked with cd's, records & dvds floor to sealing They carry mostly used cd's and dvd's. There were three workers there all very friendly and willing to help find anything you needed. I asked one of the men behind the counter if they had the cd's i was looking for, As i could not find them. A lot of the items are mixed up so sometimes its hard to find things the guy said. But he new exactly were they were. They had a few of the tittles i wanted used, Unfortunately the prices for the used were as much as if iI bought them brand new on Ebay. The guys in there were very friendly and to be honest, If you were looking to get something hard to find they properly have it. As far as buying a regular cd the prices are way to high to justify buying from them. I give them 4 stars because a lot of customers might want some old cd or record album that is no longer made and they might have it. read more

Back in the days of the longbox it was great for new releases, if you were ahead of the curve you could find it here cheap-o. Good bootlegs, promos and singles, and they still have the vast collection of discs but the prices suck. They offer "yogi" cds (the stuff that sucked when it came out 10 years ago) for $2.99 each or 4 for $10. The only upside is they have a nice collection of used vinyl and some cool flats, posters and pictures for sale. I was in about two weeks ago but didn't buy anything. Ideally, I'd like to "support independent record stores" but I don't feel good about spending my money here anymore. 2 other yelpers comment on their silly prices.
