I often go to Ross for coffee beans or k cups, sounds strange but the prices are better. I also go for children's clothes or other specialty items. Like other discount stores you take what you can get. Recently it's been a little more organized, which is nice. I just hate it when people rip into things you'd like to purchase and not only wreck the packaging but steal items or test them. I love the things in this store in Capitola, CA. I've spent a lot of money recently furnishing a new home with rugs, mirror, kitchen stuff, and more. Today I spent 30 minutes in line becuase they only had two cashiers and the staff seemed stressed. Where is the manager to mointor the flow and help easy the staff?? No where to be found. Disappointing. I bought large items so after I paid it had to drive my car up - no problem. When I asked the security check out gal to open the door for me whe pointed to a door 10 feet away versus the one right in front of her. When I was taking my stuff out I asked her to hold the door, 3x. She could not be bothered. THe last time out I said to her that I just patiently waited in line for 30 minutes, and spent $250. God help you if you forget to take the hangers off the clothes you purchase, because I guess Ross trains its employees to verbally abuse and harass their customers over hangers as this keeps happening nearly every time I go here. I kid you not, there are women who work here who have YELLED at customers just for not taking off hangers before they checked out! You'd think that they were harassed or insulted by the way they screamed! It's like the moment Ross put up those "put hangers here" sign that these women told themselves "hurray, I can now finally scream and yell at our customers now!" And it's not like the cashiers can't do it themselves or aren't allowed to because they have hangers racks RIGHT NEXT TO THEM when they checkout their customers. Idk if this behavior is present in other Ross's, but this godawful behavior needs to STOP, or god help me I will take out my camera and record every single time I go here for my own mental health and safety. Their behavior has me so scared, frightened, and mad. Sometimes I forget that the stupid sign is even there, and sometimes I don't even pay attention to where I am in the line until it's too late and it's my turn for checkout. The Ross store in this location is the same as most of the other locations that are not the name-brand bargain stores anymore. This is what I expected in the Ross today. So my review is for the store itself. This store is one of the older-looking stores. The clothing or other items that they have are not classified as good as some of the better Ross. Lots of the sections in there it is mixed together and makes shopping harder if you are there for an item in your shopping lists! Some of the merchandise is in the middle of the aisles and the employees seem not to care. The parking lot I think is the best of this store. Finding a parking space is easy. read more

Something about asking the customer to take off the hangers while you're in line or at the register I think is extremely rude! Not only is it rude but when the cashier screams from her register while she's ringing you up to take the hangers off to the customers in line is outrageous. I had a terrible experience here. As I was shopping, I became very sick to my stomach and went over to the fitting room area and waited for an attendant to help me locate the bathroom. I walked inside looking for someone after over five minutes of waiting and a man in a purple and white short sleeve shirt (who I'm assuming was a manager) ran in behind me yelling saying that the dressing room was closed. I asked him if I could use the restroom and he told me that it was also "closed". When I was an employee there that was a codeword that they would use when they didn't want homeless people using the restroom. I am not homeless, but I am African-American and I felt that I was racially profiled. When I asked him if I could have my items held at the dressing room while I found a restroom in another store, he told me that I couldn't and I had to go to the front. Which is also ridiculous because the last time I went into Ross and tried to have some thing held at the front of the store they told me I needed to go to the fitting room. So which is it? There were about eight people in line and only two checkers and I didn't have time to do that. The whole reason why I wanted someone to hold my items was because I was feeling sick. If I had the energy to wait in line I would've just purchased the items. If I wanted to steal the items I would've just ran out the front door with them and not asked you to hold them. Luckily I live close, so after nearly throwing up in the parking lot I drove home and came all the way back only to be followed around by the Loss prevention officer. Again, I used to work here in college so I was very aware that he was pretending to look at items while following me around. I literally carry a Gucci purse, Dooney and Bourke wallet and I have a brand new iPhone, as well as a customized muscle car. I have manicured hands and freshly waxed eyebrows. It is clear that I am freshly showered.I am also recent college graduate whom graduated with honors.I have plenty of money and I don't need to steal from Ross. I also don't fit the profile of a thief but apparently the color of my skin does according to Ross.I used to enjoy coming here, but apparently African-Americans are not welcomed. read more

Since I shop here quite a bit I wish I could give a better rating but the controlled temperature (too warm) and long lines take the stars down a point. If I need something new I will check here since the prices are right and I've been surprised by some purchases. I like this Ross and I'll tell you why. It's because they have a lot of great finds in the back rows. Compared to the peninsula, I saw more items that I wanted than at other Ross stores. The aisles for the clothes were a little on the tight side. I didn't explore the clothes that much. Hard to walk around people, especially if they have a shopping cart, ewww! It is true they only had like 2 cashiers a ton of people in line, I was lucky because I had something to return. But could feel the evil eyes staring at me as if I was cutting in line. However, the lines are crazy long and they usually only have one or two check out lines open. I am outraged at the level of unprofessionalism I experienced at this location. The cashier was obviously upset and made it a point to make it known that I was such an inconvenience for not taking the hanger out of the shirt I was going to purchase. I apologized and let her know that it won't happen again. She was huffing and puffing about it . At that time an alarm went off and she asked the young lady next to her to finish ringing me up in Spanish. I prefer to shop late , then, not many people are in the store and it might not take the entire evening to check out ,when you want or have to leave. I was happy to buy a couple things that I needed, the cashier didn't even look professional or acted professional in any way with a baggy red hoodie and baggy black joggers not even a badge or name tag.she was chatting with the loss prevention employee and when I came to the register not even a hello just "are you ready?" "Go to register 3" and "stand over there". I prefer the Ross down town, but this one is close to my house so I tend to come here more often. I like that they are pretty organized, well for a Ross. I always find great deals almost every time I go. Even though I am NEVER disappointed with the Ross downtown, this Ross meets my needs most of the time. I recently just found a great pair of Steve Madden heels, for $24 bucks, normally $90. I am always down for a good deal like that. I mainly come to this Ross for the furniture and other meaningless things, that I know I don't need, yet somehow I find an excuse to buy it. I agree with the other reviewers that this location is above average in regards to the available selection of clothes. Actually, this Ross use to be the cleanest in the area but it has unfortunately gone down hill; gum all over the dressing rooms, disarray, and long long lines. However, if you are willing to put up with all of that (as I am) and you are willing to spend awhile in the store (I find this fun), you can actually find some really good gems for half the price. I buy a lot of work clothes here and work shoes for waaaay cheaper than department stores. One has to be careful to check that selected items are not defective. Decent selection for a Ross. BUT if I you are planning to buy anything large, know that you cannot leave the store with the shopping cart. Not sure if this is a new Ross policy or exclusive to this location. VERY frustrating if you are shopping with a small child like I was today. My options as far as I could tell were: - try to carry my baby and several pieces of furniture to my car, parked quite far away - leave my purchase at the door while I go to my car, put my baby in the car seat, drive to the front of the store, remove my baby from the car seat, try to carry my baby and the furniture...but a significantly shorter distance...then put my baby back in the car seat...they love it when you put them in and take them out of car seats repeatedly anyway... I find it to be particularly pleasurable when there are multiple staff members in the area who are not working registers. The place is pretty clean and this Ross isn't too badly organized but the shoe area is kind of messy and there are wrong size shoes in departments also. In the jewelry departement they take forever to help you. I stood there for about 15 minutes before someone finally made eye contact with me. They aren't very good at multitasking here. There is usually a line when you want to buy things. There are a lot of random things that you can buy here. Always good if you want a good deal for a present for a friend. read more

The whole time I was shopping loss prevention followed me. I even told one of them to stop following me. It was so creepy. It's not fair that you go to spend your money and in return you are stalked. WARNING!!!!!! So if u return something unopened & unused within 24 hrs on a credit card WITH A RECEIPT they make u show ur ID & load it into their system. Never had to give my ID before on a return within 30 days. So now there's a minimum time of 24 hrs. This is not posted anywhere. BTW, item returned was $6!!! Spoke to a manager & said system can't be overridden to allow return within 24 hrs without loading ID in system. This Ross is big, yes. Clean and organized, no (but what Ross location is?) For the most part, there are good deals on clothes. I shop mostly for yoga type pants and exercise wear. $3.99 for leggings? I'll take it! The shoes, when organized, are pretty good. Love their cheap winter boots ($24), their heels usually name brands ($15-$30) and I've even seen some variety of Vans Off the Wall slip-ons, Reef Sandals ($8.99, YEAH!) and of course their running shoes (New Balance or Nike). Their handbag section is pretty good too. I've gotten a lot of Liz Claiborne bags, I've seen Juicy bags, and a few other name brands. I usually can grab a good deal on some new jeans or a cute summer dress or even party/cocktail dress. The reason I did not give the full 5 star rating is because of two reasons. Reason 1 being, their staff, well management in particular seems to be very rude and unconcerned with the customer's well being. I've seen on many occasions the manager yelling and talking down to their employees on the floor in front of customers. I've also seen managers or sales associates be very rude with customers. I don't like coming in there often, unless i really need to. I don't like shopping and listening to someone being scolded 5 feet away. Reason 2 being, not a good place to go when in a hurry. There is always a long line and the sales clerks move slower than you wouldnt believe. Sometimes they have 1 checker with 30 people in line and 5 other associates walking around aimlessly...come on lets get one more register open! Someone people don't have all day.
