Spoke with the manager Sam about an issue with a woman attending the dressing room. I feel like I got profiled as a thief for having tattoos and being Mexican because I had two other people come in after me and she didn't tell them to "make sure they dont take the security tags off" obviously you dont take those off. Felt very upset about the interaction, my mom told her she should be more careful with the tone she uses if she's going to say that to people and the attendant kept arguing her claim. She even went as far to follow my mom into another aisle and ask her if she wanted to go into the dressing room with me. I'm 31 years old wtf. As an avid Ross shopper I was excited to try out a Ross in La Jolla CA. it's located in a nice upper class part of town and I had high expectations. The employees were friendly but that's the only good thing I can say about this store. The store is in disarray. The sizes are mixed and the isles are full of clothes that don't belong on that rack. This Ross has a bit of a small selection, but they had what I needed and you can't beat the prices. I swung by to look for a yoga mat and snagged one for ~$7. I also saw some workout tops on sale and got a few of those. The main dressing room areas in the back were closed, probably due to a lack of staff, but there were two stalls against the wall near the checkout area. Checking out took a while, but there were only one or two registers open at a time, so I get it. Fortunately, I was not in a hurry, and checked out without issue. First I have to criticize their displays on men and women fragrances, uh huh they got nothing, literally zero, I took pictures of both sides of the shelf, no more than 7 items on each side, really! Then I went to men shoes, all the best brand shoes located on the size 11 and up, I am size 8 or 9 at best, at least the place made up for Poway location, because what I was looking for yesterday in Poway I found them here; the place save me from going to Vans to get my pair of vanguard mountain mule, the last pair; also scored a very nice backpack and shirt at check out. They have a lot of travel luggages, the most Samsonite stocks I ever seen, crowding the electronic area, but they got nothing over there anyway, no phone accessories, just some charging cables, wireless earphones and that's it. read more

Until today, I considered this store to be my favorite. I only visited this store. Today they did not change the size of the same product that I bought in this Ross two days ago. Sports Bras for Women - Bras Set. The set was sewn to a hanger, so it is difficult to choose my size of item in the store. The bra size did not match the stated size. The bras were too small for me. I didn't bring the bra back, I came to the store to change the size. A day and a half has passed since the purchase. One seller agreed to change a similar set of sports bras in a larger size. I found a similar set of sports bras, but when I got to the checkout, the other cashiers refused to change them for me. This was very uncomfortable for me. And I left this store a my set of sports bras in a small size that I didn't need and one that I didn't want to change for a larger size. At that moment I wanted to cry. Ross is a neat store to shop. This location was great. You can find some pretty neat things at this store. ENVIRONMENT: The environment is pretty positive. The staff are professional and helpful. Also also on their feet with zero slacking. You don't find that often. ITEMS: From apparel, kid toys, auto apparel, pet items, home and bath, housing decor and much more. This place has a ton of things. I love their Canvas photos. The canvas photos here are defiantly something you would want to hang in your home. NEATNESS: This is the only Ross I've been to that was neat and I've been to plenty of Ross stores. Everything here was very tidy. I even witnessed a worker placing things on the shelves very nearly. I have been looking to get a Pet seat cover hammock for the back seat of my car without ordering online because I needed it right away. Just when I gave up I was walking down the isle and located a ASPCA pet hammock seat cover. I was very happy. You can find really cool things here and for a great price. I love shopping at Ross. This location has limited selection for me. I managed to find a lot of cute stuff but just looking for a sweater. I managed to find a gray sweater for $6.97. It came out to $7.01. Great deal. I was tempted to buy more but not too much to choose from for clothing. They had cute purses and shoes. As I passed the front entrance, they had lots of cute jewelry. I love earrings and bracelets. They also have stuff for the home, toys, kid's clothing, men's clothing, etc. This location seems to be busy but today wasn't too busy. The lines went fairly fast. I always find something here. Here's what I heard as I rushed in to grab an inexpensive hair accessory approximately 45 minutes to closing time. Not 15 minutes to close, not 10 but a whole 45 minutes. Their loud conversation was addressed to anyone within earshot. C= Cashier/M=Manager C= "Is almost time fo me to git outta hea. Why da hell are people still shopping?" M= "I dunno, but I got places ta be. Shoot." C= Mumbles expletives under her breath M="Riiiight riiiight..." C= Cranes her neck to do a head count of how many people are left in the store while scrunching up her upper lip in irritation M= Scowls with her arms folded across her chest as she surveys the store. Barks at one of her staff because she didn't take her lunch break on time C=Gives a mean once-over to an attractive girl that walks into the store and mutters to nobody in particular, "who she think she is?" So pleasant here at this Ross!! (insert sarcastic tone) As I waited to be rung up, I prayed to be helped by another cashier who seemed bored but at least had a half of a smile on her face. I took that as a sign of friendliness. Ashley, the store manager, is extremely rude. She wouldn't take back my return, as I accidentally bought a 7 instead of a 7.5 shoe size. She claimed they were no longer in good condition, even though they were only worn around my house. Tags and everything still on them. The store is quite bare and appears to only be stocked about 60% full with merchandise. If I didn't know better I would think that they were selling off inventory to close down this location, but based on other reviews, it seems like this is just how this store is. With respect to clothing, sizes and variety are really slim and they don't carry much at all. The same goes for the housewares section, where the shelves were literally almost bare. I'm talking about 10 boxes of cups and glasses and that's IT ! I also found it awkward that every time I visited this location, a loss prevention officer (or two!) stood by the entrance and eyed every shopper up and down upon entering and exit as if they were certain most patrons were thieves. I know all stores have loss prevention officers and a separate department for that, but I've never seen such a visible presence at the door every time. I'll echo the other reviews and suggestion going over to the adjacent Marshall's for a much wider selection that keeps getting replenished every week. read more

I think a consensus is we all expected more from this Ross due to its location and surrounding amazing shops, but...eh, sorry to say but me thinks not. During my visit I found the store to be very spacious and clean...bare, even! I guess I've gotten used to enjoying the scavenger hunt and somewhat rummaging through the aisles, shelves, and racks of many items at Ross. Although nicely organized, there was little on them and I couldn't find what I was looking for. I suggest trying the Marshall's or World Market next door for your finds. read more

Regarding Ross employee and possible manager, Afshan Mod. She followed me everywhere. I made a large purchase and because I had a cart full she and her employees followed me throughout the store. At one point she even tried to get a picture or video of me with her phone. I have never felt so stereotyped, watched, misjudged, and violated. While the prices are right, a lot of the stuff are pretty much the same item that I've seen at other discount stores. This place deserves a zero star review! Went there on 11/20/20 to pick up a few things before my vacation. The cashier only gave me one big bag, which i thought had all five items in it. While packing i noticed it only had two items. I called the store and they said it was there. I told them i couldnt pick it up until aftrr my vacation. They didnt want to refund through the phone, so i told them to hold it. I went back after my vacation and the manager said the bag wasnt there anymore. Someone must have taken it and they couldnt refund or do anything about it. It was $36 worth of merchandise. I couldnt believe a store does this to their customers. Never going there again. Shopped at this store regularly for years, but last week was my last time doing so. Waiting in line to check-out. For some reason, everyone had formed the lane on the exchange one (regular waiting line was empty), but there was only one cashier available and she was taking customers even for normal purchases (as I specifically heard her say to the lady in front of me). That is until it was my turn where she told me to go back to the regular lane, where several people had arrived after me. Had to wait an extra 5 minutes to get to the exact same cashier, who robotically checked me out without a look. Incredibly disappointing customer service. I remember coming here a lot when I was in college since it's super close to campus. It's smaller than other Ross locations and it doesn't have as many racks of clothing nor choices. Today i went into Ross for some glasses as a gift, I waited about 10 minutes near the locked up case and when Marissa finally came over despite being asked to come over 3 times by the cashier, she decided to hop on the register and help three customers before me and keep signaling to wait. There was no line and the one cashier could have handled them. It was really rude because I had already been waiting for her while she was talking to her coworker. After she helped me with an attitude, her and the coworkers continued to chit chat and gave me dirty looks. Yes, i had a slight impatience attitude but quickly got rid of it. I'm with Em B. For this Ross being in a pretty prestigious area, the ghetto-ness of it is surprising. In general, I really like shopping at Ross, but this location isn't up to par with other locations like Carmel Mountain Ranch and Mira Mesa even. Today it was cleaner than usual, but what I found offputting was that there was a line forming (2, then 4, then 6, then 8) and one fo the gals behind the register was busy straightening up the clothes behind the counter... normally I would think you service the customers in line first THEN during a slow time, you straighten up... so waiting waiting waitng, I notice there is a poster with the managers face and her phone number, so I decide, to call and ask if they can open another line. I call the number for the 'manager' and guess what? The cashiers phone rings and basically the number I dialed was to the cashier who is straightenin up, not the manger! Sigh! Why do they put the phone number for the manger up by the register if I am just going to be calling the register??? What a rouse! lol So I just wave and say to the cashier who isn't ringing people up and say, "Hi! It's me! Is it okay to open another register since there is a line?" and she tells me no because they already have two other people on register... meanwhile, the line continues to grow... So yeah this location gets 2 stars. I found some great gems... some great aerosole shoes for less than half the price and a beautiful statue of the Holy Family for only $9! This Ross is decent for a Ross. I've been to many Ross's in my life and this is one of the better ones. It is cleaner than most Ross's and the people that shop there aren't super ghetto. They have a decent shoe section although to be honest I haven't found many shoes I like there. (After writing this first section I decided to change my rating from a 4 to a 3) Honestly I haven't found many clothes I like at this Ross. I usually go to Marshall's which is right across the way because they have a much higher quality selection of clothes and shoes. I shop at this Ross if I need some cheap clothes - cheap meaning Inexpensive and probably low quality. It's really hit-or-miss and you have to weed through all of the ugly clothes on the LONG racks. But hey, it's Ross....you should know what you're getting into when you walk in. read more
